(I'd give 10 stars if I could!)…read more We had an absolutely incredible experience at High Life Adventure Park! We brought four kids ranging in age from 10 to 15, and every one of us had an amazing time. We were rushing to make our 5:30 reservation, and of course all the kids needed a restroom break before we could get started. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They were patient with our delay, welcoming from the moment we arrived, and even added extra time to our reservation so we wouldn't miss out on any of the fun. The safety training was excellent--thorough, easy to understand, and confidence-inspiring. We all felt completely safe before heading onto the course. What really set this place apart was the staff. As the kids started their first challenges, the team was right there encouraging them, cheering them on, and helping them build confidence. Some of our group were a little timid at first, and the staff went above and beyond to help them succeed. One of the highlights of the day was watching our 10-year-old daughter face a challenge that had her scared and nearly in tears. She was convinced she couldn't do one of the obstacles. Dale stepped right in, got out on the course with her, encouraged her, made it fun, and even adjusted an obstacle closer to help her gain confidence. Before long, she was completing it on her own. Watching her realize she could do something she thought was impossible was priceless. By the end of the day, her confidence had grown tremendously. Later, when the older kids moved on to more advanced courses, our youngest teamed up with her big brother. He would run a course above while she followed below, and it was so fun to watch them tackle the challenges together. Noah was absolutely fantastic as well. She stayed close so she never felt alone on the course, anticipated which challenges our girl would enjoy next, and was always there when a more difficult obstacle was coming up. Dale kept everyone laughing with his silly dad jokes and impressive rope tricks, making the entire experience even more memorable. We also loved hearing about the history of the building and Dale's logging background--it added a unique and personal touch to the adventure. This wasn't just an aerial challenge course; it was an experience that built confidence, created family memories, and made everyone feel supported and successful. The staff is truly exceptional, and they are the reason this place stands out. I'd give High Life Adventure Park a 10-star rating if I could. We can't wait to come back!

There is a pre-party before the race where you can throw some powder around, get some food, but in the daylight it did not seem like much fun. There is a long line for the start of the race but they let waves through every few minutes. It is an untimed race, basically just for fun. There are only a couple of blacklight stations where they throw the powder(cornstarch) on you. This is a huge bottleneck and runners get backed up. Some people just go around because it might not be worth it. When you run through the stations make sure to close your eyes because it may get into your eyes. I was right next to the person throwing the powder and got it all in my face and eyes. The 5K run wasn't too challenging and it was fun only because of my friends. After you finish you can get some more packets of the powder to throw on yourself and there is an after party with a concert and people dancing. Make sure to park in the back because it will be tough to get out. Overall, it was a fun experience but not something I would do again.

They were sprinkling it on each person, causing a huge bottleneck. The pre-party was kind of lame. There was only one food cart and one beverage (non-alcoholic) plus the cheesy beer garden. The Electric Run and Color Me Rad are by far better events. I suppose if you had never done an event like this, you wouldn't have anything to compare it to, so you may think it was okay. But I won't be doing another one of these!

I wanted the highest, longest zip line I could find nestled among the forest and this did not disappoint. Andy and Bryson did a great job of keeping us safe while also making the trip really fun for everyone. The ziplines themselves were great, especially the last 2 which take you over a gorge with rapids below. Amazing ride with a great view! We passed by a few of the other zip line places that I considered during our trip and I'm glad we chose this one; the others looked pretty lame in comparison (based on what I saw from the road). If you take the trip, note that there is no outpost. You enter the forest at the edge of a small, gravel parking lot with a couple containers at the end (which contain the gear). I thought I was in the wrong place at first! But it makes for an even better experience, in my opinion, because you spend the whole time in the forest. I highly recommend this experience.

I have done many Spartan Races (this one was my 8th race) at many different venues and this venue…read moreis by far my favorite and by far the muddiest! If you are ever planning on doing this race, plan to arrive very early because the parking situation this year was horrible. I heard that people were waiting in line at least an hour to park. Luckily I took uber so I did not have that problem. The event was very organized. Everything was clearly marked and knowing where to go was easy. Also, it costs $5 to check your bag. Cash only. The barbed wire crawl was by far the muddiest part of the race.. MUD everywhere! I had a great time rolling in the mud for a few minutes. There were also two different sets of mud moats on this course (basically walking and climbing through a bunch of mud). Some of the other obstacles included wall climbs, monkey bars, bucket carry, sandbag carry, atlas carry (basically a boulder carry), plate drag, tire flip (my favorite!), hercules hoist and a dunk wall so you can clean off at the end of the race. I highly recommend training prior to this event. This race is no walk in the park. I recommend incline walking and hikes because the hills will defiantly get you if you haven't trained prior. I also recommend resistance and strength training. The majority of the obstacles require both upper and lower body strength to accomplish. Make sure to wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. In most cases, the shoes you wear you probably won't ever wear again unless its for another obstacle course race. At the finish line, you are rewarded with a medal, finisher shirt, a banana, Clif bar, Fit Aid drink, and of course free beer. If you ever have a chance to do a Spartan Race, do it! The feeling of accomplishment at the finish line is incredible!

Despite that, this was one of the best organized obstacle runs I have ever done. And the swag was rad! You're given a timing chip, a headband pre-printed with your bib number to run with. That, with the bib number on your arm, and the bib itself, they really want to make sure they identify you for the many photographers on the path. Some of you may be going, "Wow, but it's only a 5K" and though I prefer long distance running/obstacle courses, I have to tell you: I was surprised. It also took us nearly a hour and a half to complete. The combination of the constant steep hills, the intensity of the obstacles of themselves...this race does not disappoint! I've done a couple of Tough Mudders, and I have to say that this was just as physical, even though TM is 4x the distance with about 10 more obstacles. And I could never do another Warrior Dash or Survivor Mud Run after doing this 5K; I've been spoiled! Flipping tractor tires, scaling walls, horizontal hand/feet walks, inverted wall climbs, rope climbs over water, dragging another tractor tire only to have to pull it by rope immediately after. Running up a trail with a sandbag, using pulleys to lift cement buckets, throwing a spear, a constant tirade of mud, water, and knee crawling under barbed wire, swimming under a wall...and I can't forget about dragging a cement block with a chain while carrying a log on your shoulder! Here, I ran into the most difficult obstacle I have ever done. A huge, STEEP mud hill re-wetted constantly that you had to try and belly-climb--all under barbed wire. You made some headway, then would slide down on a sea of people. Your entire body stays flexed the whole time, and it took us about 20 minutes to do it. The top 1/3, there's a rope to drag yourself up the rest of the way. The barbed wire caught me at least 7x during it, and managed to rip my Team Pandavores tank top! Oh yeah...any time that you didn't do something correctly (my spear missed the target) you have to do 30 burpees as punishment. I had to do 60 of them total over the course. So the rules of engagement: help your fellow Spartan ALWAYS, ALWAYS stop for water, wear fingerless gloves, be on time for your run, and train for hills. Most people walked a majority of the course--that's how steep it is O_o The next time I do this, I hope I don't have a nagging back injury so I can run for time!! I also recommend making a weekend of it; I came from Seattle for Spartan and had a built-in excuse to enjoy some fun in Portland. The 5th star is missing just because there were too many knee obstacles, but next time, we'll just tape our knees to prepare!

He thought it might be the site of an old antique train trestle that might have been on his parents' property years ago. Sadly it was not, but it was still worth the trip to see the camp. The property is owned by the Salvation Army and used to bring urban children out into forest and get a feeling for camping for a week or so. Being a former camp counselor (Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp) in Rhododendron, I really enjoyed talking with the camp director. So many similar experiences. The TriMet bus stop was right at the camp entrance. The camp had a good sturdy road, but I think it descended at least 1/2 mile, but as we walked down. the magic happened with the sounds of nature taking over. Butter flies and birds flickered, the river ran, and all the small forest critters were busy on their errands; almost in a Disneyesque manner. I'm not sure of statistics, but I feel pretty sure they can fit in a large number of campers in during summer sessions. The buildings are very handsome and look brand new which is very much to the camp directors and their staff's credit. After a very pleasant time, we did have to leave. The camp director and her husband (co-camp director) were kind enough to drive us back up to the bus stop. The Salvation Army is doing some outstanding work here along with their directors and staff. We felt the easy warmth of all we interacted with and walked away with happy thoughts of the time spent with these fine people.
