What a beautiful place to go on the lake you have so many scenic sights on your 2 hour journey. This was our annual July 4th trip and this was my 1st time here and I absolutely loved it. Everyone at Campbell's is kind and helpful. I highly recommend Campbell's for all skill levels.

We used Campbell's car spot service. This allowed us to launch our kayaks from their store and provided a service to leave our vehicle at our pull out spot by giving us a ride back to the store. For 20$ it was a very convenient service. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The Au Sable river was clear and mostly shallow. It is a more populated river journey (lots of cute cabins along the river) but we still saw some wildlife: a giant turtle, ducks, small fish and a gorgeous great blue heron. read more

This is the second time I have used Campbell's and they are still just as great as they were two years ago. We booked our reservation online and when we got there we had to wait about five minutes in line but the service was quick and friendly. We followed a woman to where we park our car - the end destination for the canoe trip and then drove back to the hub in the car with her. She was friendly and answered all of our questions. The canoe trip itself was spectacular, like last time. The river route is extremely peaceful and the trees and flowers and even the little obstacles in the river made it a perfect experience. I can't wait to go again next year when we're up at Houghton again. I would recommend taking your family or your significant other and enjoy the beautiful Michigan outdoors. read more

We rented a tandem kayak here once, and the experience was very good. When you rent from them, they will follow them to your drop-off point, and they bring you back to the livery to set off; you'll go down the river to where your car is and simply leave the canoe sitting at the ramp. This "taxi" service is at no extra charge. They rent single kayaks, tandem kayaks, canoes, tubes, and other accessories. The tandem kayak was $35 for the 3-hour trip. We visited here on a colder Memorial Day weekend, and the river was relatively low traffic. I've gone down the river at later times in my own canoe during peak summer months. If you want to launch your own, the park across the street serves that purpose. On warmer days, the river will literally have traffic jams since the river isn't very wide at any point. The river is very easy to navigate but often filled with people who have never paddled down a river before. It was actually pretty annoying but at no fault to Campbell's, who probably makes a killing during the summer months. read more

Absolutely enjoyed this peaceful canoeing experience! I recently enjoyed an up north trip with friends and we wanted to get out into the great outdoors and boy did we do just that!!!! I had a great time coasting down the river and getting to see all of the beautiful wildlife, houses and lodges along the river. The owner was truly helpful, personable and gave us everything we needed including directions, map, and a ride to the starting point of the river. My mother in law booked this for us when we were visiting. We rented two individual kayaks and one canoe for a Tuesday. We got there early to check in for our 12 pm time. It was kind of a cluster. I'm not sure if they tell you when you make reservations, but you need to provide your driver's license number and license plate for the person signing the waiver. Pretty much everyone had to go outside to get that information because they didn't have it on them. We were then handed a beeper to check back in when the driver was ready for us. You send one person with the driver to leave your car at the spot you will get out at and then they come back. There are restrooms to use outside prior to taking off. No real direction as to how to get your kayak. We had to ask the kid working and he said he would help us get them. They launch for tubes too and it was a very busy day. We ended up getting in the water about 12:30 and had to make our way around several large groups of tubers. The current was pretty fast that day as well so a lot of paddling occurred and there are a lot of trees/limbs you need to maneuver around. There was one stop we saw for public restrooms which was not long after we started. I did not see anymore after that and we did the three hour trip. We finished in about 2:45 for reference. read more

My family did the 2.5 hour tubing with Campbell's Canoe Livery: https://www.campbellscanoes.com/ We had 5 adults and two children. We brought along drinks and snacks for the trip. One note...this may be obvious but it was not to me. When you rent the tube for a cooler it is the tube only. You will need to bring your own cooler. Campbell's does have ice if you need to buy some. We made reservations ahead of time and arrived about 45 minutes early. I think 30 minutes would have been plenty of time. Once you check-in you will need to drive your car to the designated drop-off location and a shuttle will take you back to the store where you start tubing. My family had a great time and we look forward to tubing next summer. read more

Jayden (not sure correct spelling) was such an amazing employee! She was very helpful and nice. She helped four of us (and a cooler tube) get in the river and made sure we were all good before giving us a push off into the river. She made our first experience amazing and clearly enjoys her job. She deserves to be recognized!! All the boys were hanging out watching Jayden rock it out on her own! The shuttle to drop the vehicles off at the end was a great way to keep organized. I will definitely recommend this place and will be coming back!! We had a ball! read more

This couldn't be easier. Reserve online & show up. Easy in. Easy out. The river has A LOT of trees creating lots of obstacles, but that's not Campbell's fault & they are east to navigate around. Water isn't too deep. Current is nice & easy. Staff were pleasant. Highly recommend!! read more

Decent experience. the staff were all very friendly and helpful. 3 hour tubing trip as expected! The only things I had a bad experience with was one of the tubes about 30 minutes into the float started loosing air. By the time we finished up it was almost completely out of air. Also, beware of leaches. Bring salt for sure, I had about 8 on my feet and one on the butt, which would NOT stop bleeding once I found it and ripped it off. Lastly, I would only recommend the business clean up the river they send us down. So so so many fallen trees. You have to get up constantly and climb over branches and trees that have fallen into the river and theres no way to get around them unless you climb over. Other than those 3 things it was a good experience! read more

Great place - friendly staff, good service, reasonable price. They were helpful with getting our kids in the canoes, even. We called the day before and got some good, free advice about how to avoid the crowds. The staff let us take our cars to the exit point and drove us back to where the trip began next to Campbell's main building. Cushions were provided in the canoes to make them more comfortable. They helped us in - we were able to get in without getting wet. 2, 3, or 5 mile trips are available; we did the 2 mile trip and it was a relaxing trip down the river with some logs and rocks to keep things interesting. You'll need to figure out how to steer around obstacles, but it's not difficult. You'd have to be an idiot to capsize, which our friends did! The water is shallow for most of the trip. At the exit, you really need to get in the river to get your canoe out. It's only a foot deep, if that. It's a little rocky and I recommend footwear of some sort to protect your feet. It was a nice safe and family-friendly experience and we'd definitely go to Campbell's again. read more

The river experience in a kayak was wonder. The staff leaves MUCH to be desired. I walked into the office and almost tripped over a leash that was lying across the floor. The explanation was that the dog hadn't arrived yet. I had to ask how we would recognize the pull-out. There was no instruction on where to leave the kayaks hen we finished or where the toilets mentioned in the advertisements were along the way. Our kayaks and paddles were literally thrown on the ground. There was no help to adjust the foot supports or to launch the kayaks. Actually there was no conversation with the staff whatsoever...they acted as if it was an imposition that we were there. read more

Fantastic time from start to finish! Jim (the owner) bends over backwards to make everything great, and the staff are trained really well-very professional and friendly. Boats are super clean and the river is gorgeous. Especially like how we don't have to wait on a pick-up even on the longer trips. (we park our car where we plan to end our trip and they shuttle us back to Campbell's to start our trip.) read more
