Like so many of us, I love my neighborhood Campbell's. I don't concern myself with Price or the ease of online shopping. I just like a neighborhood natural foods establishment. Been coming here for years, so that's always worked out pretty good for me. I'm 70 now and I don't think that I should have to ask or lose out on my senior discount. I realize they don't want to start asking people how old they are because that's not cool, but a regular customer- someone who's clearly over 55?! I would think it would just be good customer service to afford that gesture. A long time customer, clearly over 55 - that should just be a given! And this is from a sales person that has been there for 100 years and knows my face. Knows my story. Customer service shouldn't be a hit or miss. I can't believe it's taken me so long to check out Campbell's, especially because my kid immediately lost her mind here. Even after a mildly traumatic (unrelated) experience earlier this morning, she perked right up as soon as we stepped in and kept shouting how "this place is way way WAY better than Costco!" as we went through every aisle. I've been to markets like this before, but certainly not in Iowa. It's rare to find a place like this that isn't just really pared down version of Whole Foods. Arguably, this place has a more unique/obscure selection, just in less of a quantity. They've got spices and sundries in bulk, organic produce, really unique pastas, snacks, cereal, non-dairy stuff, cleaning products, a juice bar, premade sandwiches, and organic whole milk yogurt for a price that doesn't make me roll my eyes. I love this place! They have so much stuff from produce to pantry items and frozen things. They also have a cafe that is open for limited hours if you want to order a bite to eat, coffee or fill up on kombucha. I usually come here for vegan items because they alot of options that not every store has. If you bring your own bags, they give you a token to donate to several different places which is awesome! read more

Healthy you, Healthy Campbell Campbells has been around a long time. I have gone here over the years and always been able to get me what I need. I always fall back on them when I have questions on vitamins or whats the best for me. They have essential oils, vitamins, and better for healthy whole foods. They are just very selective and pin pointed. They also have a really nice little grocery store attached to the health section. I enjoy the goodies they have for quick food or food in bulk. Campbell's is a great healthy food store and supplement center! They have everything you would find at your normal health food Co-Op or even your local Whole Foods, just less supply of it.. I really love the juice bar which is only open select hours over lunch time. They have great local produce, and a good bulk section, and lots of fun packaged food items for a vegan. The supplement department is their strong suite and have lots of things you wont be able to find other places! The prices here are a little more expensive then other places (Whole Foods) but remember buying local is always nice when you can do it! read more

This is the best organic, natural store in the Des Moines West and Beaverdale area! They have a great varied selection. Their produce is excellent. They also have an excellent selection of organic condiments and gluten-free products. In the back of the store, they have a huge vitamin and supplement section. They have so many brands to choose from. Their selection of organic and natural sunblock is the best in all of Des Moines!! I love their organic meat selection. They have all kinds of USDA certified organic beef and organically raised pork grown from Harlan, Iowa. The beef is amazing! It is very dark red not like that pink sludge you can buy at the typical grocery store. In the past, I have heard from friends and relatives that their customer service was poor; however, this is either untrue or has completely changed. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Hadn't been to Campbell's for years. However, went there to inquire about taking turmeric for muscle aches wow there I got some very valuable information and did purchase some turmeric with ginger. Wow there I also picked up some brown cow yogurt which I was glad to see they carried and also remembered I used to get a broccoli sandwich that had cream cheese and raisins that sandwich is just as good as it ever was. In terms of homeopathic style treatments for common ailments they have some of the best selections of what I would call first aid type items and people that understand their use. You can find a huge amount of essential oils and reference books that show their use for different problems. they have a huge selection of herbs and vitamins including some of their own generic brands for all types of things that you may want some type of treatment for. I get basic adult vitamins there, probiotics, milk thistle, NAC 600, L-lysine to mention a few. they also have a nice selection of organic fresh vegetables, organic frozen vegetables, small farm organic meat and lots of organic canned goods and dry goods. It's a locally owned business so I try to support it by purchasing as much as I can from all the types of things that I mentioned. They also have some unusual gift items from t-shirts, to wonderful soaps and shampoos, resource books for an organic lifestyle an interesting note cards. I have to update my review. It went from 4 stars to 1 star. Let me tell you why. 8 times out of 10, I'll be overcharged. Warning to all Campbell's customers - don't leave the store until you look at your receipt and confirm you were charged the posted price. It really aggravates me that I even have to worry about this. If you make an item go on sale, then enter that sale price in the system. Don't force your customers to have to do a self-check to make sure they were charged correctly. The "adults" here will take care of you without question. But it looks like they hire some teenage girls that don't know the first thing about customer service or how to talk in a professional tone. I walk up to the register with a smile and some groceries. Too-good-to-be-cashiering-on-a-Friday teenage girl says to me in a condescending tone "um, just to tell you, we only accept cash for totals under $10". I said alrighty, must be a new rule, sorry about that. She replies "ok, um like, yeah...it's on this sign here and like, um, it's ok this time I guess, whatever". Then she proceeds to overcharge me on some soy yogurt. (please refer to paragraph above) And goes back to texting on her phone. Great... Probably won't be returning. read more

I am a fan. You can find a variety of foods, vitamins, supplements, and health and beauty products. This place exposed me to new products that I would not have tried otherwise. The staff are able to answer your questions and direct you to what you are looking for. I love places like this. But I don't love their prices. Some of the items you can find elsewhere for less. It's hard paying 3 bucks more for something that you know you can get down the street. But I pay it. Because it's good to support the local stores. So at least we can put off the whole Walmartization of our country for a few more years. read more

I love this store! I have a very unique diet due to autoimmune disorders, leaving me with 4 major food allergies. Campbell's has a huge selection of gluten-free and vegan options, that are sometimes cheaper than Hy-Vee. The one next door to Campbell's is the closest to us, and doesn't carry very many options for me. It's been a pleasure to get the necessities there, and then walk over to Campbell's and splurge on my 'specialty' foods. I mean, this place has at least 5 different varieties of gluten-free bagels- how can you go wrong?? Only issue is sometimes the staff, they aren't welcoming. The check-line system is a little weird, and the first time we went, they stared at us like we have no clue what's going on, without offering any help. This was about an hour until close on a Saturday night, so I'm guessing it was an off day. read more

Nice little neighborhood grocery store. This place is typical of a little natural health store and has lots of goodies but they are generally overpriced. The specialty items here are great and hard to find elsewhere in DSM -- they also have a huge vitamin selection. Some of the staff is helpful and some of them ignore you while you shop -- this is typical of most stores in DSM. It's worth it to me for quick stops and a giant selection of Aura Cacia products. I like the store, but you would think that if they really looked into the efficacy of masks then they wouldn't be so strict about it. A place that is supposed to be well informed about health should be more aware of the harm that masks do, but they are more strict than even commercial grocery stores. Masks do not prevent transfer of viruses. I am very disappointed with them about this. As an independent health conscious store, they should be at the forefront of health freedom, not promoting some harmful agenda of fear. That is one of the unhealthiest things we can do. COME ON CAMPBELL's, be a leader, not a follower! I am limiting my expenditures there until they wake up and stand up for freedom. I love this store. I love what it has to offer as far as healthier options. I want to give it 5 stars for being innovative in a smaller city. HOWEVER, the cashiers are just flat out rude. There is not a nicer way to say it. They never smile, they rarely say thank you, and their condescending attitude is an absolute turn off. Props to the staff in the vitamin/supplement section for being overly helpful. I want to shop here more but I find myself seeking out Gateway and Trader Joes more and more frequently to avoid the negative attitudes. This is my go to staple for bulk goods, and things that are already ready like salsa and mustard and peanut butter. I recommend the tree of life products. They usually have only the ingredients needed to make whatever it is they are making, and they are really cheap. And they have a huge section of eco friendly household products, and vitamins. I bought a pound of shea butter at Campbell's. When I took it home and opened it, it was clearly rancid. I brought it back and was told they would reimburse me, but only for half of what I paid. Then they said they needed to keep the shea butter so they could get reimbursed by the manufacturer! So I ended up paying $10 for rancid shea butter and they are making $30 (my $10 and their refund from the manufactuer). Way to treat the customer! Their rationale for not reimbursing me was that they had a tester that smelled the same. Well, the tester was the same manufactured and probably the same lot and was rancid too! Unfortunately I didn't see the tester so wasn't aware they were selling rancid product based on that. I just received shea butter that I bought from a reputable seller and it smells fine. So I do know what rancid shea butter smells like. Dubious ethics and really poor customer service! And rancid, smelly product. Not adding up to a place I want to shop. read more

Best Natural Food Store in Des Moines!

Shopped here for years. But over time, have grown tired of one person in the personal care Department. So I don't go in as often and when I do it's just for a few items. Today I went in and saw a sign that Burt's Bees products will be discontinued. So I asked why and was told by the same person who is always unpleasant and lacking any genuine helpfulness stated that Burt's Bees ingredients are dirty. I'm surprised this lady even works there still can't imagine that anybody really enjoys being around her or maybe she's just a man-hater? I returned a toothbrush once because I got bristles in my teeth after using it the same lady suggested that I cut them off with scissors. I'm a believer. What a gem I have in my neighborhood. Grocery shopping is the last thing I want to do. I get overwhelmed by the bright lights and constant noise. I had the best customer service experience today. Matthew helped me find farro for a recipe. He told me I could buy it in bulk and showed me where it was and how to weigh it and tag it. I saved money because I only got what I needed. Every employee in the store greeted me with a smile and asked if I needed any assistance. I was in Des Moines for Christmas when my son developed a bad cough. We needed some dark honey, either buckwheat or avocado, to give him some relief. I started calling grocery stores...HyVee didn't have any, and Whole Foods didn't have any. After a little more googling, I found Campbell's. The woman on the phone was very helpful and checked her shelf to make sure they had it in stock. The store itself was easy to find, and we got a parking spot right in front of the door. We've been loyal customers for years. On a recent trip my wife was bumped while holding a jar of vitamins by another customer, knocking the jar from her hand and the product breaking on the floor. She was charged for the half of the product. The immediate concern was not whether she was cut or hurt, but the charge for breakage.
