I went there wanting to get a haircut. The haircut is not what I was wanting and the lady was not serious about it, merely doing the cutting for five minutes and she spent another half an hour trying to chat with me. The experience was really bad and I ended up not getting a haircut I wanted. The lady seeing that I am Asian keeps on making weird comments about how I "immigrate" to the US because I am sick of my homeland - I am very proud of my hometown and I am here only to study. Decent haircuts for a very cheap price. I've had my hair cut at this place for almost five years at this point. All the stylists are very good and they try to be as helpful as possible. My go-to person is Hai, who works on the chair closest to the entrance. He's very friendly, but won't talk too much unless you engage. They have some haircut options that you can choose from on the wall; otherwise knowing your numbers and being specific about what you want is important. There may be a bit of a language barrier with some of the stylists, but they'll consult each other for translation if needed. I typically get a simple cut with clippers on the sides and scissors on top, and I've always left happy with the outcome. I have a wavy strong voluminous hair, which they deal with easily. These days the wait time is virtually nonexistent. I've always been offered a seat as soon as I arrive, but I also tend to go on weekdays and early on because of the pandemic. The staff for now are still wearing masks, but they're not requiring it from customers. Current prices are: $22 for Stanford students and for seniors; $23 is a regular cut; and, $24 is a special haircut (not sure what the last one means). They accept cash only. There's a bunch of bike racks right in front of the store and a free public parking garage across the street. A few VTA lines stop just around the corner too. read more

Easy and quick. My boyfriend and I stopped in around 2pm on a Saturday to get his haircut. The place was clean and there were two barbers working at the time. We had to wait about 10 minutes for the previous customer to finish, and then my boyfriend's haircut took about 10 minutes. We were out of there in 20 minutes which was fast. The barber did a great job on his haircut, and we were satisfied with the price as well ($18 for a regular men's haircut, $17 with a Stanford student discount). This is an old school barber shop mostly for guys. I'm talking blue and red barber pole old. Your grandpa would probably like this place. Definiitely not for most people and it seems like the majority of the patrons are old dudes and Stanford students. Ive been going here since they used to be on Cambridge Ave. I walk in, say hi to everyone and get my hair cut by the same guy everytime. I don't say anything, sit down and he does his magic. You get what you pay for. The service was mediocre and the haircut was equally mediocre. The place was relatively clean as far as barbershops go but very cluttered. I asked for a simple clean cut and when they finished, I could see the lines where they attempted a fade. The worst part was when I asked for them to touch up, they told me that it was fine and that there was nothing more they could do. I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

This place used to be my spot for haircuts but after 3 straight bad haircuts I can't see myself coming back. There's only one person I would trust getting a haircut from but he's always busy. Hai is a Palo Alto institution. He has cut my hair and my two sons' hair for almost 30 years. He cuts so many of their friends, coaches, and teachers' hair as well. He does a great job on the hair - though none of us are professional models, so all we want is a clean cut at a fair price. He is a fascinating guy, with an opinion on everything. My boys and I love to share the 'Hai-sms' that we garner from every 6 week visit. Many of these pieces of wisdom have passed into family lore. Hai is Silicon Valley's answer to the barbershops all over America from my childhood where you would get great conversation and run into everybody in town. Think Mayberry RFD or even Coming to America. I joke and say that AMC or Bravo Network needs to do a reality show with Hai - call it 'High Tea with Hai To', where they showcase his opinions and watch him counsel the cognoscenti of Palo Alto. read more

I've been here three times. I wanted to like the place. The people are friendly and the price is right. I never got a bad haircut here per se, but they never actually did what I asked them to. They didn't listen to what I wanted. The lady who cut my hair all three times just kind of did her own thing and I got a passably decent haircut. I think if you want to point to a picture on the wall and get a haircut like that, that's what they're used to. Don't expect anything that doesn't conform to that. Yesterday I went in for a trim of the neck hair and behind the ears, and they somehow managed to screw that up too. On top of that, she didn't brush off the cut hair properly at the end, so I had clumps of hair on my sweater and in my car after I left. Admittedly, I'm really picky about this stuff. I have really thick, curly hair, which many barbers find challenging. I just moved to PA from Chicago, where it took me several years to find a barber I liked. I would agree with others and guess that poor review are by people who didn't see Jay. Read yelp before you go. Insist on Jay. Leave with a great haircut. Come back and ask for the same haircut, and you'll get it -- Jay is very consistent. The haircuts I ask Jay to give me are common, to be sure, but I'm white and my hair is thick and wavy. Not very easy to cut that type of hair short and hide the shear marks. I've had some pretty bad cuts throughout my life, so when I find someone who can cut my hair, I take notice. In the past, I've paid as much as $30 for someone who can actually give me a decent cut. Jay can do it for half that. I imagine that even if I were a rich man, I would still come see Jay. Other reviews pointed out the fact that they don't do shaves. Jay certainly will, but it's extra, and I've never asked for it. Still others pointed out that many Stanford students come here, as if that were an indicator of poor quality. If you're interested in a lifestyle experience that will eat through your salary, then look elsewhere. But if you're interested in results, come see Jay. read more

We've been taking our four-year old here to get haircuts for over two years. Sometimes the cuts are great, other times not so much. But my kid is happy to go here ALL THE TIME. Why? Well, the friendly people who work here adore him and always change the TV to his favorite cartoon channel. Plus, they are constantly amazed at his ability to identify different cars so they brag about him to the other customers as my kid sits quietly, beaming in the chair. Got my hair cut at Campus Barber Shop today around 4:30 pm and had a fantastic experience. There were three barbers working but only two were occupied, so I had no wait. My barber was very friendly, asked me how I would like my hair cut using the photos on the wall as a guide. The hair cut itself took no more than 15 minutes. She used a lot of the buzzer, which I have had bad experiences with at other barber shops, but she used it deftly and I was very happy with the results. Short review because my visit was short. Walked in, saw two Asian ladies talking while cutting a young boy's hair and was greeted by a youngish Asian guy. Okay, so we've totally destroyed the movie-fantasy barber shop ideal, but I can hang with that. I am motioned to a chair as I explain that I'm looking for a professional shave. "We don't do shave." Okay, now you've lost me. If there's anything barbers are famous for it's for their shaves. One can get a haircut anywhere, but a professional shave? Friends, that's the exclusive realm of the skilled barber. I said my perfunctory thank-yous and exited with no services rendered. Over-priced!! I used to come here a few years ago. The hair cuts are hit or miss. I then had a hair cut in LA and the barber totally went off on my cut from Campus Barber Shop. Overall the cuts are hit or miss. There was one guy who completed botched my hair cut because I didn't want to wait for the young guy who normally cuts my hair. I also saw that same guy end up giving a kid a flat top because he messed up so bad and that ended up being free. They also don't do the shave's. You can get better haircuts down in the south bay for $8. I've since gone up to more stylist haircuts. I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

Eh. This was an overwhelmingly mediocre experience. I usually get my haircut at The Hairmill in Menlo Park with George, who does a great job. I wasn't available that week when George could seat me, so I ventured over here. It's best to know what type of cut you want before coming here, and use the examples on the wall as they will not listen to any given oral instructions. The staff isn't friendly, but they're also not rude. They use the electric clippers to get hair off, which leaves a general uneven feeling. They also don't wash or dry hair. The place looks good, the overall appearance plus closer observation of the entire area is that it as clean as it's appearance, the entire staff are friendly and courteous, the beautiful lady barber who cut my hair was so careful , fastidious, professional, friendly and courteous it made for an enjoyable time as all my hairs, not just on my head, we're so nicely clipped. My husband came here on Wednesday for a haircut around lunch time and was taken care of right away. The staff was very friendly and gave us restaurant suggestions since we were from out of town. I got possibly the worst haircut I've ever gotten at this barbershop. The fade was super patchy, to the point that there was a bleached "island" remaining at the base of my neck. The scissor work on the top was incredibly patchy as well. There was even a tuft of hair visibly longer at the top that I had to cut myself with scissors when I got home. There's just no excuse for technique this bad. I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed immediately. Do not recommend. read more

This is the best-value haircut I have found in the Palo Alto area. Unlike Supercuts and The Haircut and others, these guys spend at least fifteen minutes on you and seem to really care that you are satisfied. Like if they see that I'm trying to watch their TV as they're cutting my hair, they'll turn my chair around so I can watch.
