This is probably one of the oldest and smallest Canadian tires in the city of Halifax, but it's pretty convenient considering it's location and lack of other similar stores in the area. The place could definitely use an update or a renovation Luckily there is usually ample parking, Which has become increasingly difficult to find on the peninsula. read more

An experience that happened today has brought me to the point that I will never enter this location again. Trying to return something to the store I was greated by the customer service telling me that they were not going to return a defective product that was used even though I had my receipt. They were doing me a favor with allowing me to purchase product for the total right then and there or take the product home and come back, this was not going to happen. Becomig extremely frustrated with the service I was getting I walked around and looked for a manager which I found and was actually no better. I took my product and left the store and called the company who was willing to help me. With the ecomomy like it is today you would think that the customer service would be better then this and try to retain the customer apposed to have such a confrontation in the store. Last week I popped up to Canadian Tire, Quinpool location in the hopes of finding some cheap gardening gear. (My Mom sent me 80 odd bulbs when I professed an interest in planting a few for next spring) I literally canvassed the entire South End prior to heading up to Quinpool and in the end, got everything I needed. Canadian Tire is great in terms of having a large price range for products. I probably could have found a stainless steel trowel, spade at some home and garden shop downtown, but I didn't want to pay $30+ for something that isn't likely to survive my next move. Canadian Tire had packages of gardening equipment that included 2 spades (one pointy) and a trowel for less than $10. I was also able to get a large bag of soil with manure, etc mixed in. Upon checking out, I did request some help with the 20lb bag of soil. Apparently there weren't enough staff on for my cashier to be able to help me which was a little irritating. (I did have bags of other stuff!) While perusing the gardening section I also overheard an employee complaining loudly about how he 'was going to quit tomorrow'. etc etc. Everybody has bad days but complaining about your job, while at work, in front of customers, is pretty unprofessional. Overall, head to Canadian Tire for great selection in paint/painting supplies, home appliances, gardening, etc- just don't expect the greatest service. Despite the item still in complete Mastercraft packaging - the store manager (who would not even come to the phone) refused to accept a return for exchange for the item I DO want. Do we wonder why Amazon gets all the business? It's because short sightedness like this turns customers OFF. According to customer service at Head office - they were supposed to offer receipt lookup - which they did not. We have taken our car in 2 times and have been screwed both times!!! Don't go here for car repairs, even a simple tire change. Today we dropped it off and we're told it would be 24 hours... Annoying but ok. Then they call at 5:57 saying we have 15 mins to come get the car... We had 3 fucking mins until closing! To get to the store with no car... First time they sold us a part we never needed. And our car blew up the next morning, they said that's some how our fault for not knowing what part we needed... Like are we mechanics? No! Contrary to all the negative comments here I quite like this store. I guess my main endorsement is that I love having it in my immediate walkable neighbourhood. Once it's gone I will need to drive all over hell's creation like Lacewood etc for hardware and tools and parts. That's one reason I try to do all my relevant shopping there. Secondly, I've been to a few car service places from the dealerships to local gas station garages and they all screw something up once in a while, but Canadian Tire here has been consistently predictably inexpensive, reliable and convenient. I've never once had a bad experience with car service and in fact the last exhaust work I had done the mechanic went out of his way to fabricate an oddball part late on a Friday so I could hit the road for a major trip early the next morning. The parts guys are extremely knowledgeable too. The rest of the store is what you get with an inner city hardware store. It's not a huge suburban box store - they're squeezed into limited space and they offer exactly what you would expect in a smaller space in the middle of the city. So I give Canadian Tire Quinpool 4 stars because it does what it's expected to do, and the value in car service has always struck me as being very good to excellent. Edited: They are dog friendly too! They staff almost always take the time to give my pup a small biscuit. The security guard is the best I have ever seen. Friendly and helpful but you sure know he's on duty. This gesture if greatly appreciated! read more

Ho-hum. This Can-Tire is a replica of all its ancient brothers and sisters. It's so dreary and bland, that it can feel a little repressive if you spend too much time browsing. I went in recently with friends in search of lawn games. One pal was looking for a kite. Like Ace of Base, we eventually saw the sign proclaiming outdoor games, this way! But alas, the games were fairly non existent, or maybe we turned down the wrong aisle. I find the overhead signs a little disorienting sometimes - is it the aisle before or after the sign? We eventually found bocce and croquet, as well badminton. After making an inquiry we found the kites too but the pickings were slim. So a Barbie kite it was, coming in at huge $7. I mean the cheap price is indicative of just how crappy the thing was, but nevertheless, extremely humorous to watch a bearded man frolic across the commons with it trailing behind. I'm kind of indifferent to this Canadian Tire. I don't mind visiting and sometimes they have great sales on cat littler and natural cleaning products. The employees are hit and miss, and fair enough, a lot of them are sweet sixteen I'd guess. At least I'm tall enough that I don't get my head caught in the security rotating entrance thing anymore. The most dreadful group project of my NSCAD career included a series of trips to Canadian Tire. Our assignment was to create a table design out of materials from this store. The fact that all three of us spoke different languages made finding our way through the project a little tricky; however, it was the dingy, hollow grounds of the actual store that tested my patience. Maybe I just don't spend enough time in these sorts of stores, but I could not seem to find my way around at all. Isles seemed poorly organized and a wee bit random. The employees weren't exactly helpful either. There were times when we were actually asked to move, as employees restocked shelves. And not too kindly, might I add. Between the scattered arrangement of stock and the reluctant customer service, this Canadian Tire location left a sour taste in my mouth. read more

I feel bad for only giving Canadian Tire three out of four stars. But I have also never heard of a business where, no matter what store you go to, the customer service was rated so poorly by everyone I've met. So this definitely warrants a lack of stars in my book. Let me start off by saying there are good employees at Canadian Tire. I know they are there, and I have met them. But the majority are lacking in some pretty big, key areas. Some are lacking in friendliness, others in knowledge of products. But its frightening to me that such a long term problem has not been resolved. When so many employees do not enjoy their job or are not knowledgeable enough in their field of work, I can do nothing but move my eyes in the direction of Management and or Upper Management. Someone at the top must need to take some leadership or management courses. Not to get more out of their employees but to make the work more enjoyable. But this is just a theory, however it is one that seems to fit the facts. So that's my rant about the customer service. On the flip side of it all, there is good reason to shop at Canadian Tire. Their name is misleading since Tire's and Tire care are only a very small part of this store's business. Canadian Tire has a very large variety of items for all your household or recreational needs. From lamps to hockey gear, paint to Key cutting, they have it all. And I will say that if you are walking into a specialty area of Canadian Tire, the employees working in those spots have always been more than knowledgeable about the products. Perhaps not very friendly, but you will get the information and sometimes the support you need. This particular Canadian Tire is located in a great area of Halifax. Right on Quinpool road, next to grocery, liquor stores and restaurants. So you can do all the shopping you need all in one area. I never shy away from Canadian Tire but I always walk in with the mindset of, "I'm on my own." I don't expect customer service to be great as I have had far too many bad experiences and have also heard far too many bad experiences from friends and family. Sometimes I am gratefully surprised. But I don't go there to see happy faces. I go there to buy DVDs, lamps, fans, hockey gear or whatever else I need that no one close by has. read more

I'm not a car guy. When asked the make and model of the truck I borrowed from my father, I once responded "black." This is an endless source of hilarity for my "car guy" room mate, but I can't help it, it's just not my thing. I like old cars, but I know nothing about them. Which is why it's great to have some fairly helpful staff at the local Canadian Tire. They have, on countless occasions advised me what to do and, more importantly, what not to do with vehicles. I've never felt like I was less of person for having no idea what was going on behind those bay doors, which is nice. It's good to know car clerks are nothing like music clerks, at least not to your face. I've always felt very confident in their work and have never had a follow up issue with work they've done on vehicles I'm associated with. I do have their card and collect their points and shop in there but other than that I'm not a huge fan. I highly recommend that you don't get any work done to your car or buy any tires there . YUP Canadian TIRE!! don't buy tires there . They are expensive and if you do happen do get a decent price and buy one there you are forced to get them to mount and balance them or they VOID THE TIRE WARRANTY !! Who the hell do they think they are ? Do they honestly think they are the only place that knows ho to mount a freaking tire? Give me a break.. I go there for my odds and ends and that's it. I really dislike giving any business 1 star, but I've visited this Canadian Tire more than a few times, and each and every time I wonder why I bothered. My latest visit was a trip to the automotive service department because I needed a new car battery. It took more than 5 minutes for someone to get around to serving me, despite there being more than 4 people milling about the service desk, with no other obvious obligations. And, once I was served, there wasn't an option in stock. Now, I get that that's going to happen from time to time, so that's not really a bother, but it's how they treat their customers that really gets to me. Instead of helping me find out about other options at other stores locally, I have to ask directly for them to assist me by looking up in the system and contacting an alternate store. They even were going to make me use their phone to call the store!? Um, that's your job? I've been to a lot of different Canadian Tire stores and always seem to get what I need with decent customer service, so in comparison, this store makes everything worse - they just don't get customer service. Oh - and just to tie a bow on it, the other location I went to that had one in stock was a much better experience, start to finish. read more

I really like this Canadian Tire store. Why? Because it may be the only downtown store that serves a number of product categories that are otherwise only available in big box stores. If you want to get a hammer drill or bolts or paint without driving to Bayers Lake or Dartmouth then this Canadian Tire store is your best bet. It is, in my opinion, one of the most useful stores in downtown Halifax. What I like about Canadian Tire in general is that their product selection is very broad - they do, for example, also have a good selection of small kitchen appliances or storage units or vacuums. It is one of the few chains that really cover a very broad product range. Also, they actually carry many good products, even though their focus is of course on the less expensive side of things. I find them quite mindful in selecting which products to carry in each category. Overall I find that they do a good job at selecting good products that have a good price. Some of the things I bought at this store that one might not think of as typical Canadian Tire products: kitchen knives, cutting boards, a breadbox, under-bed storage units, upright storage units, and probably quite a few other things that I can't remember now. The sales assistants are usually quite clueless but are for the most part willing to (try to) help. It is best, however, to come to the store having done some research about what you want to buy in advance. Fortunately the Canadian Tire website is quite good, and includes store availability information. Canadian Tire seems to have two main own-brand lines for tools: Jobmate and Mastercraft. The Jobmate tools are usually very bottom-end - I have Jobmate screwdrivers but apart from that usually avoid Jobmate tools. However, in their Mastercraft line they really carry a number of tools that are both very good as well as a very good value. This notable quality difference is also reflected in the reviews on the Canadian Tire website where many Mastercraft products have excellent reviews whereas many Jobmate products have mediocre or poor reviews. An added bonus of the Mastercraft products is that many of them have long (3 years on my hammer drill), often lifetime (for instance my hammer) warranties. I have also had good experiences with the auto department. I purchased my winter tires here, which had a good price and excellent reviews in Northern European magazines (General Tire AltiMAX Arctic, which is a rebadged version of the Gislaved Nord*Frost 3), and I also had my alternator replaced here. No problems with either. I also purchased wiper blades here which were VERY cheap yet had very good reviews. Very happy with them so far. As other Yelp reviewers have written they've recently redone the store. I actually preferred the old store layout - I'm not yet used to the new one. But overall, apart from the location of the different sections, it still looks pretty much like the old store - which is perfectly fine with me. So overall I really like this store. It may not be pretty or special or unusual, but I find it immensely useful. read more

This store is in serious need of some customer-service training for its employees. Because it's in my neighbourhood, I go here a lot. But I know better than to go to this store if I'm looking for something that I may need help with. Employees here actually turn and walk in the other direction if you manage somehow catch their eye. Once I stood directly IN FRONT OF AN EMPLOYEE waiting for him to acknowledge my presence and he simply refused to look up and acknowledge my existence until I finally gave in and said, "Uh, excuuuuuse me...." Rarely do they know the answer to your question, anyway. Better to just go to a store where they actually want your business. read more

Need pink turning white ceiling paint badly, and have had huge luck with Cdn Tire's Premium paint, but Bayers Lake's was all sold out, so called the Spryfield one. The paint guy was amazing - when I picked it up he had placed it on the counter having shaken it and added 2 stir sticks = 5 star service (and paint). Problem was getting into the store - huge long wait which I was prepared for, but 2 people who exited the store at different times both spat on the road in front of the store (great way to spread the virus - thanks!) and a guy was smoking in line ahead of me and the guy working at Cdn Tire asked me to move up into the circled star. Guess smoking is okay standing in line? So, the spitting and smoking turned me off completely, but fantastic service from the paint guy. read more

Wow!!! Quoted $1200 to fix exhaust. Was told that the whole exhaust system needed to be replaced. Was told that there was even some holes in the exhaust up close to the engine. ** I then took the car to Midas Muffler and had the problem fixed for $345. When I told Midas Muffler that another shop quoted me $1200 they laughed and asked if that was Canadian Tire. Here is the kicker...Midas Muffler showed me the "other" holes that were in the exhaust near the engine and told me that Canadian Tire mechanics use a screw driver and put the holes into the exhaust just so they can make more commission. Never Ever going to CND Tire again and I will keep spreading this story. Shame on you for trying to take advantage of me! read more

I consistently have had negative experiences at this location. There are usually way more employees standing around talking than actually working. The customer service is generally poor, slow and there is always "technical difficulties" that result in their inability to process returns, or collect points, or reasons why they won't honour sales and promotions. It is one of those places where I assume the employees are treated poorly, because they definitely do not take any pride in their work, or are motivated to provide a basic customer service- its almost like they go out of their way to provide a terrible experience. read more

I couldn't believe it today when I went into Canadian tire and talk to this girl named Emily. I asking her questions about my truck and about parts and to make an appointment that she had no idea what she was talking about she had no idea anything about vehicles and what could possibly be my problem so I asked her to bring out a mechanic. I think she took offence to this she thought I was accusing her of something I said what could I possibly be accusing you of . She was very standoffish and very rude. Hey I had already had taken the day off of work because I was sick now had to deal with this very rude and ignorant person. If you go into a parts or into a garage person at the front desk should have some knowledge and know what they're talking about so they can refer you to the right parts or make an appointment. When I asked her how much the appointment was she said it was nothing that it was all in one bill when I had my truck fixed. Well I know that time is money and nothing is for free. I asked her in a different manner so if I don't get anything done to my truck the appointment will cost me nothing she said no it will be $40. I'm wondering if this girl is on something by now. I asked her for an appointment card, and that took a proximally five minutes. I did like is that they had a woman in the position which we are all fighting for equal rights. I am a metal fabricator and a welder and it can be difficult, But no matter if you're female or male you still have to have knowledge to communicate and this girl had no knowledge about vehicles whatsoever and she should never of been placed in automotive on the front desk for people are asking about parts and appointments. It makes it so hard and difficult to deal with our problems as a customer if we can't ask questions and have them answer by the appropriate people. Hiring kids that are going to school for mechanics that would be better this way they would have the knowledge and would learn something and the customers would be happy just a suggestion. It wouldn't hurt contacting Nscc schools I know there are so many students looking for jobs And they would be so much more qualified then the person behind the desk tonight she had me so frustrated I couldn't even drive home I had to contact customer care at Canadian tire while I sat in the pouring rain outside the store. Just a note to Canadian tire you should not have your employee smoking by your door even if it's raining. read more

I was given an estimate of 45min-1hour and here I am 4hours later. Last time I ever shop at Canadian tire. Here is my story. I had been buying break parts as well as all the other truck parts I can for my 13 year old truck. I spend about $1100.00 a year at Canadian tire just on my truck. I often try to get sales and found the Ate rotors were working well for me. I was on vacation last week and found such a sale 1/2 price for a set of ate rotors online. I placed my online order and an e-mail came a few seconds later telling me my rotors were ready for pick up. I called the store confirmed the order and told them I would be not be able to pick them up for another week. I was told that was OK. Then the next day an e-mail came in stating I would need to wait for another e-mail as my order was delayed. I was on vacation and trusted all was taken care of by the time I returned. Several days later while still on vacation an e-mail comes in to say that my ATE rotors are in. I thought great just in time for my return and a pending break job I have booked at my mechanics shop right after my return from vacation. So I was at the store today and besides the lengthy process of having to visit the key counter after being told by the automotive department that is where online orders are picked up. I get told to find a 4 digit code in the e-mail sent to me by the online shopping? I see codes and an order number but nothing 4 digits? The key counter desk calls down another guy who takes my phone and paws it over for this 4 digit number. I am getting a bit pissed but stick with it due to the half price I paid for the ATE rotors. After all that guess what comes next. Brembo Disc Brake Rotor that do not even fit my truck. I was not offered the ate rotors as a choice (my pick up e-mail said to pick up ate rotors which I ordered and I showed the guy in my e-mail). I was told that I would get a refund and was taken to the service return counter....... OK these folks need to drop what they are doing and apply for gov jobs right away. I was very disappointed. All of that for nothing. This cannot be what is considered good service. When you consider how many guys like me enjoy caring for an old truck like this that needs constant attention and parts which keeps in part aftermarket dealers like Canadian tire going. I would not service my truck with Canadian tire ever but for parts up until today they had been good to deal with over these years. Oh well Rock auto.com will get my money I guess for now on. Also I have to say I may decide to send this review to the manager to see if it changes anything and if it does I will follow up here on yelp. read more

What is there to say about Canadian Tire? Most every store is eerily uniform, which isn't a bad thing, but in this location the layout gets a bit confusing (to put it lightly). They are undergoing some renos at the time I write this, but the store, while having a lot of useful stuff, is fairly ancient and again has a rather confusing layout to it. read more

This is a review of the Automotive Service Department and not the retail store. I have taken my car here several times over the past few years and I am very impressed with the customer service. Also, It is so convenient to drop my car off early in the morning (as early as 7 am) and pick it up after work (as late as 9 pm). The mechanics always call with an estimate of the work, they always charge exactly what they quote and my car is always ready to go when I get there after work. Staff are always friendly and the technicians are always willing to take the time to explain the details of the problem and the work that needs to be done over the phone. I have also taken cars here for pre-purchase inspections and they are very thorough. read more

After waiting too long to return a defective lamp I'd purchased in the fall, I reluctantly took it in to see if the fine folks at Canadian Tire might take pity on me and do a return outside of the 90-day return period. Thank goodness I did go in, because it turned out the lamp was covered by a manufacturer's warranty, and I was able to return with no fuss. The service was laughable, but I was just happy about the lamp. I literally did not know if the woman I'd spoken to was working on my return until it was done - she kept her back to me the entire time, spoke in a soft voice when asking questions of me, and frequently left her post to help other cashiers with different issues. Downright confusing! The floor staffers, on the other hand, have always been awesome at this location. A funny experience this one time, but I got what I wanted and will of course go back again whenever I need odds and ends for the home. read more

I had the worst experience ever at this Canadian Tire garage. I purchased 4 winter tires and held them at home until i was ready to have them installed. I went into the garage last week and had then installed on Thursday Oct 29th. When I picked up the vech I noticed that the air gages were reading that the tires had 31 PSI and my vech needs 38..I was told that it was just the gage that needed to be reset and they didn't know how to do this, that there was enough air in the tires. After taking the vech home and resetting the gage there was still an issue of the readings showing 31 PSI's so I called the garage and asked about taking it in to have the tires checked....Normally I would just have put air in myself but I had nitro put in the tires. I was told to bring the vech in this was the following Saturday...When I arrived at the garage I was told that it would be a bit before my car could be brought in and i was ok with this...after 45 minutes of waiting i asked how much longer it would be as the problem was from a previous service call that I felt the shop should deal with and I was told it wouldn't be to long. In the mean time a mustang pulled up in the parking lot with 4 young boys in it and one came into the garage and spoke to one of the service guys and the first thing i knew he was pulling his car in and they were putting air in the tires...I was angry at this point and went to speak with the service manager..he apologized and had my vech taken in next....after 10 minutes the service guy brought my vech back out and the readings were still showing 31 PSI's and the warning light was on..one of the service guys was out in the parking lot and i asked him if he was the one who checked my tires and he said no...I said the tires are showing the same as when i brought them in and his response was well it must be your gage there has to be something wrong with it...I was frustrated at that time and left ..On Monday I took my vech to the dealer and when they checked they said none of theses tires have the right amount of air in them and within 5 minutes they had them filled and all warning lights went out.....I am sure that Canadian Tire didn't complete the job right the first time when the tires were installed and to make it even worse I believe that when i complained about the waiting the second time that my vech was simply driven in to quiet me up and it wasn't even looked at..... this is very childish and irresponsible service from an organization...Canadian Tire certainly had no problem taking my $800 for the tires and then another $75 to install and balance them...but once they have your money don't look for any service.... all this to advise others that if you use Canadian Tire you certainly take your chances....Even though they might be convenient ...i certainly will never be using them again read more
