Lots of lawn areas , a good bit of it is shaded by big trees along the perimeter. Picnic tables and park grills . There's a hugh softball /baseball field towards the back. Big bathrooms , could be a bit cleaner. The women's bathroom was temporarily closed when I went so I made my hubby escort me to the men's . On a cold winter weekend, my commute from here to Queens on two buses and a train came a total of 2 hours. Why would I do such a thing? Because the Parks Department holds a bunch of free classes and events all over this city, and some of the really cool ones are in its more remote locations! I signed up for a compass reading and orienteering class. I was the only one who showed up, so I got a private ranger led tour of the park by two handsome bearded park rangers, Teddy and Patrick. You're freaking missing out! You can sign up for a by-borough weekly newsletter from the Parks Department about these tours and classes (like camp cooking, fire making, tree identification, etc.). I can see why this park doesn't do it for some people, but I'm going to share why I love it. For one thing, it packs a lot into a small space. A skate park, two large playgrounds, a bike/jogging lane, multiple ball fields and basketball courts, the largest series of workout stations I've ever seen (including some that are handicap accessible- in fact the whole park is), clean bathrooms, more trash cans than I've seen in any park, and a more wild area that leads off to a beach where you get a wide expanse of water and sky. If you close your eyes, the din of cars on the Belt Parkway almost sounds like waves. Other than that, the planes are all you hear, but the remoteness is still worth experiencing even with those city sounds. For another, the park contains marshland that helps protect NYC from flooding during storms. Much like New Orleans, we need this land too, even though a lot of people don't think of swampy places with much fondness. The restoration of this site honors the land for what it is and the job it's doing, and has paths around the marshland so you can see the wildlife that thrive there. We saw geese, crows, sparrows, ducks, a praying mantis nest, oak trees, Kentucky Coffee trees, Hawthorne trees (they look like Christmas holly!), and something I kept calling "pink lemonade trees" because apparently that's what their berries taste like. Finally, it's quiet, at least in the cold. All afternoon on a Saturday, the skate park was the most active place. The playgrounds and ball fields were quiet, a few dog walkers and roller bladers here and there but for the most part I had the place to myself. In the summer I hear a lot of people come out to BBQ. The whole neighborhood was quiet, very family oriented. Get out and explore your city! :) read more

In terms of Skate parks I give this place major kudos. The ramps and open space give me a really nice goofy flow. I was able to accomplish some of my skater goals and as a new skater I hit some of my major obstacles. Yay me! The scene is chill and easy on the spit fires. Initially there were a lot of people and as the evening progressed it was just me, my board and open air. And, oh by the way... Where your bug repellent! read more

Wow I really love this park. It's one of my and my daughters favorite places to go, especially in the summer. The park is generally clean and the people who go there live in Canarsie. Patrons of this park are there to have fun or work out. They have built the park out so that it actually connects to Canarsie pier and has a little beach area too. This place has gotten such a makeover and it looks great! Canarsie Park was under construction for years. Slowly, but surely, it revealed to us its true potential and it was a great bet. The expansion has created a grand space. Think of it like a mini Central Park, but in the hood. There is a place for everyone here. I like to rollerblade on the running track and in the main entrance green area. Its paved walkways and hills are fun and the scenery is calming. People play soccer, cricket, baseball.. you name it. The skate park is a fairly new addition. Lots of teens are getting their knees skinned over there. I like to stay away from that... On weekends, families like to have picnics and unregulated BBQs. (I don't think fire is allowed in the park.. However, that doesn't stop people from grilling it up.) The older parts of the park has the usual basketball courts and jungle gyms for the tots. I remember how much fun I had there as a child. I cherish those times. read more

Canarsie Park is good. I recommend it. I've been here twice this summer, for a child's party and for a family picnic. The park runs along Seaview Avenue, with the popular parts ranging from about E 85th Street to a little past Remsen. I set up by E 86th and Seaview since the bathrooms are near there. It's in Canarsie, Brooklyn, predominantly West Indian, and I love it. People keep it clean for the most part. The last time I went on Saturday 8/14 there was some garbage on the grass but not that much to complain about. I wish people would clean up after themselves but that is a whole 'nother topic!! Bring your own toilet tissue and lots of hand sanitizer to the bathroom. There is running water in the bathroom faucets. The bathroom closes promptly at 6:00pm on Saturday's, I'm not sure about other days. Take the Belt Parkway to Rockaway Avenue to get here. The park is safe for the most part, but since belt parkway is near a lot of drivers think they're on the highway, so if you have children keep an eye out for speeding cars. It gets really packed during the summer, there are a lot of celebrations. If you are planning something go early; in the morning people barricade the good spots. Now during the pandemic, there hasn't been any wild parties but the local residents go there to exercise and the kids to play, ride bikes and skateboard!. read more

When I think "state park" I don't generally think "industrial zone and highway overpass," but this is apparently what you get in Canarsie. I was tooling around on my bike this weekend and headed toward the water, as usual. I ended up at Canarsie Park, and was at first overjoyed to find the natural-ish landscape and hilly paths behind the more standard meadow park area... however, as I climbed up an unexpectedly steep turn, I came upon what one would expect would be a heavenly light shining upon a beautiful view from a hilltop... and saw a bunch of cranes, broken, overgrown pavement and the Belt Parkway. Bummer. If I was a dude I woulda lost my... yeah. I'm a little confused by the five star reviews because compared to other Brooklyn Parks, this one is just okay. I'm glad the neighborhood has a green space, please don't get me wrong, but if you're not from the neighborhood, this isn't really much of a destination. Marine Park is within biking distance and is much nicer. read more

Great park to work out in. They have the track that goes all the way around the entire park. If you want to put a little intensity in your walk and/or run you can go off route and up the trails. They have workout equipment along the trails. They're not out in the open, so if you're self conscious about people watching you work out you don't have to worry about that. The only thing I dislike is the people who come to the park to sit & smoke. I came here for fresh air. I don't appreciate taking in deep breaths of cigarette smoke in the middle of my work out. read more

As a native of Canarsie I feel honor bound to give this a high rating. About 10 years ago it wasn't as nice as it now. But after the expansion this is a pretty awesome park. You get a variety of things here: basketball court, baseball field, 2 different play grounds and even a mini skateboard park! There is a lot to explore in this park, I tend to find myself walking along the Belt Parkway or under the highways underpass near the beach area when I am feeling adventurous. Pretty fun spot! I wish it was closer! Maintained very well, tons of fun obstacles (including a halfpipe) decent amount of ledges, 3 boxes spread throughout. There's also a bunch of rollers and Manny sections. Super fun and flowy Ground is super smooth. Bunch of scooter kids and a few kids on bikes but overall a decent crowd. Few kids just running around (aarrgghh)! But there were also some kids who were regular skaters, so u might run into someone u know here bc it's pretty fun! I recommend this park to anyone at any skill level. U can practice basics in one section, out of everyones way. Or u can also whip around like a bat outta Hell, just flowing throughout the whole park! The best way to describe this spot is that it's the minigolf of skateparks...it's zany, yes super mellow and fun for everyone! read more

Any place that NYRR has an open run is usually nice. This park is nestled in the Brooklyn suburbs and yet has a wild feel the deeper you go into it. It's spacious, well kept, and makes you appreciate the nearby marine ecosystem. read more

Canarsie park is hella dope. I have been living here for almost a decade and for some reason I never even stepped foot inside. Recently I started going and I must say it is a beautiful park. There is a baseball field, gravel path, exercise sections along the path, sand, two hidden ponds (with duckies awww), picnic area and more. It also has a skatepark which was recently built which is also very clean and sleek. Overall I dig it and I am so happy that there is a park near me that offers some serenity away from the chaos of NYC. Canarsie itself is a very suburban area and this place totally reflects that vibe. read more

I have been going to this park for a little over 20 years now, and I have seen it go though some major improvements. There are still some changes most likely to happen but for now its a great park for working out, taking the kids, hang out with friends, relaxing, having a picnic, bike riding, a run, you name it... there is a section for it all. There's something for everyone at this park! Young or old, human or dog. If you want an intense workout, or a leisurely stroll, you can enjoy this park. I often take my dog here and he absolutely loves it. Many paved trails and even some mulched trails. Enough that neither of us gets bored. Lots of open space for off-leash hours. A great environment, I only wish there were more dogs there. There's so many uses for this park, I recomend it to anyone. read more
