My mother of the bride dress was reasonable and the alterations were good. When the final fitting showed that one of the seams were taken in a bit too much, the seamstress adjusted it on the spot and didn't charge for that ! I had gone to a few bridal shops in Salisbury but found gowns in my plus size of similar quality , were more expensive . I'd recommend them as an honest, helpful business ! It was also great to see a business conveniently located in a downtown area. I never had any trouble parking close by. read more

This place was so unorganized and unaccommodating. My sister came with her maid of honor to try on bridesmaid dresses and was promptly kicked out when the bridesmaid received a call from her kid's school. I suggested that they go to this place since it has been around since I was in high school. I am very disappointed to hear of their experience. I am writing this review because i have heard that this place has been "selective" in recent past with "certain" customers. DO BETTER! You should always be kind to people. In December of 2023 I went to Candlelight for a bridesmaid's dress for a friend's wedding. The dress came in early March, unfortunately when I went to get it fitted we found they had ordered a larger size than needed. They assured me it was no problem, they would take it in. When discussing cost they never told me it would be increased due to being a plus size, which would have affected my choice greatly, had I known. When the dress was paid for and ready to be picked up, it was not taken in correctly. The bust did not fit at all and it made the dress unwearable. They blamed my weight but my weight had not changed. As I was seeing a specialist I had to be weighed and measured regularly. I had my measurements done the day I ordered the dress and again the day I went to pick up the dress. My measurements had stayed the same as did my weight. I wound up having to drop out of the wedding for personal reasons but even if I hadn't; the dress went unused or picked up as it was still not ready. I tried to give them the time to do the proper alterations but it is now June and the dress was never fixed. Their response "it was left alone for so long they just put it up". Mind you, it had already been paid for, and still had a deadline. I do not recommend giving this place your business as they are rude, and unprofessional.  They make costly mistakes and omissions, and do not care about their clientele. read more

Staff has no class. I have a 12 year old with a slow thyroid which causes her to be overweight. Saleswoman told me that she was concerned that they wouldn't have a dress in my daughter's size because she was "big here (pointing to her chest), here ( pointing to her stomach) , and everywhere." I couldn't believe that came out of her mouth. My daughter was 3 feet away and heard her. It really hurt my daughter's feelings. This place is trash in my opinion and I will never recommend it to anyone. read more

I do not recommend for bridal services. First and foremost, they ruined my dress one day before I had to leave the state for my wedding. They sewed a belt onto my dress incorrectly THREE TIMES. The first time, they sewed the lining into the belt creating wrinkles from the bunched fabric underneath. Then they sewed it in again, but this time so obviously crooked and off-centered. After their 3rd attempt, they permanently snagged and pulled fabric beyond repair along the torso area. I was in tears by the last fitting knowing these women have butchered my wedding gown. Additionally, there's no electronic system so billing is a complete mess. Everything is hand written and my payments had to be tracked and organized by me as the women in the shop were completely confused the entire time. Attached is my PAID IN FULL receipt that they claimed was never paid in full. These women called me ON MY HONEYMOON MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO THEIR INCOMPETENCE. Awful experience and I fully regret purchasing my wedding gown from them. Avoid at all costs, it's not worth it! read more

I DO NOT recommend them for alterations. I needed the straps raised.Maria, felt I needed a stitch in the bust area. Didn't ask me just put a pin in it to do it.I didn't realize see did, until we went to the register and they were charging for it.I said no I dont need that. Went back to maria she said i kept holding the dress up. I said yes because it was gaping because of the straps. She said ok we won't do it. I was not charged and it was crossed out on the ticket. I NEED the dress by the 28th, they said it would be done before, when i leave for the destination wedding. On the 23rd I have heard nothing and called to get a status update. My dress is ready I was told, but why did I have to call to get that info? I go to pick up my dress today.They fixed the straps, but not enough and the one strap looked horrible.Stitch not straight and could see the stitching. and they added the stitch I asked not to have. On top of that there were pulls on the dress. The first lady, no idea her name, immediately got defensive and said "I can pull the stitch out. Do you want me to?" The issue wasn't even the stitch, the dress laid very weird with the stitch.i said i don't know im not a seamstress but it needs to be fixed. She pulled out the stitch which tore/pulled the dress. She said I was afraid of that. So then why did you do it!?! I showed her the other pulls and she said they were there before. No they were not. At this point I was livid and thank goodness Sarah came out. She said let me see what I can do. She pressed it to help with the laying issue. While she was pressing it maria is going on and on to the first lady about how they didn't write the tickets right and she works to hard to do extra work. I'm sorry 1.a customer shouldn't be hearing this. 2. The work I asked her to do and paid for she screwed up anyway. When i tried on the dress again it still didn't lay right. The straps need to be pulled up about an inch. That's what they needed before, so I'm not really sure how much they raised it in the first place. In the end. Sarah made it look the best she could but it still doesn't look how it should nor the same condition I dropped it off in. Sarahs stiching on the strap was fantastic, you can't tell work was done at all. I also paid to have it pressed and the outside looks good but the inside is still wrinkled. Wouldn't you press the entire thing? All I can say is thank you to Sarah.I don't have time to get it any better but she at least got it to a point that unless you look up close it should be OK. I am in 2 more weddings in the next year and I will never go here again. If you Have to go here I'd ask Sarah to do the alterations. First photo was before, with no pulls. I didn't think to even take a closeup. Lesson learned. The others are after. read more

We went there looking for flower girl dresses for my two girls. We got there and they only had maybe three dresses in stock to try on, none that would fit. We looked through catalogs and picked out the two dresses. They measured my girls and I paid for the dresses in full. They never indicated the sizes they would be ordering. 3 months later, I go back to find out that they ordered my 6 year old a size 4. She's not a large child but she's definitely not a size 4. They remeasured her and found that they were two inches off on her measurement around her chest and stomach. The insinuated that it was because my daughter must have eaten a lot this summer to grow that much. I looked at them like they were crazy. She's 6. They reorder the dress in a 6. I go back to get it and they charged me for rush shipping the new dress. I argued with them and ultimately had to pay it, bc the wedding is in 10 days and they were not going to release the dress to me. They told me they ate the price of the previous dress and that it wasn't their fault my daughter grew they much. As my daughter only grew 3 lbs over the last year and absolutely did not grow two inches rounder in 3 months, I found that extremely rude. I will absolutely never ever order anything from that store again. read more

Horrible communication. We went in their hours that were stated on Google and on their voicemail machine, and when we arrived the hours were different. I called and left a voicemail that their hours were posted wrong. They called me back and tried to argue with me that they can't change that and that everything is up to date. Wrong. Instead of apologizing and making me feel like they cared, they continued arguing. I just want my dress. They also never called me or my bridesmaids that our dresses were in. I want to thank Julia and the staff at Candlelight. My daughter was in from Texas for a pre-wedding visit. She needed her dress, purchased by mail order from a large retailer, hemmed and other small alterations done in the limited 2 week period she was here. We were given an appointment, masked up for a fitting, and everything was completed in time for her to return to TX, and for a reasonable fee. Very rude when called to see if they can do a hem on my dress because their website says they do outside alterations but when i called i told her it was bought at another store. Oh no I'm behind and i wouldn't be able to get to it until July. Really, i call BS. Plus I'm a local and cared less. Very unprofessional. No wonder they have a bad rep and people said don't go there. Worst experience ever. 10 people in the bridal party plus bride and groom all purchased their wedding attire at this place they all were overcharged the measurements were all wrong the bridesmaids dresses had to be altered not once not twice but one of them had to be altered three times the bridesmaid was charged all three times . I would leave zero stars if I could. I do not recommend anyone going here. Customer service is absolutely awful. I went in November 2022 to look for a wedding dress. Service was excellent (at the time), I found my dress and ordered it. Fast forward to April 2023, the dress comes in and I get there to try it on and it's the wrong size (too small) the shop reassured me it will be ok and they'll get a new one in a matter of a couple of days and the owner would "drop everything to make sure this dress is altered and ready for my wedding". That turned into a month later (my wedding is in June 2023 mind you) May 11 my dress finally showed up. May 13 I went to try it on and pick it up and it was the wrong color. Now less than 30 days to go and I had to buy the one off the rack. The owner never once came out to offer a discount, never offered an apology for the poor customer service, never said a word. As I was about to leave we were informed by an employee that the owner, Julia, wouldn't have time to do my alterations and have the dress done in time for the wedding now. Thank goodness I scheduled an appointment elsewhere after all of the issues we had to begin with. Brides, do not waste your time, it is not worth the stress for dealing with them. read more

Highly suggest you go elsewhere- I've had an alterations appointment scheduled since February/ March for my wedding dress. When I called to make the appointment I told them I bought the dress elsewhere and the woman said it wouldn't be an issue. She booked my appointment 2 weeks from the date I needed it (again, told me this was no issue at all and I questioned her multiple times) I then called an additional 3 times to double check and confirm 2 weeks was enough time to get my dress altered. Was told yes all three times In the voicemail - well I arrived to my appointment and my tailor (brown hair lady with glasses) was absolutely atrocious. She was rude, unprofessional and told me "we don't take that brand of outside dress" and then proceeded to tell me that what I needed done would take more time than 2 weeks. Maybe get your staff on the same page about time frames needed for alterations. DO NOT COME HERE! Super unprofessional, rude. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. TERRIBLE customer service. I sent a groomsman here to be measured for a suit for my wedding through Jim's Formal Wear, for whom they are a retailer. They charged him $20, asked him for his pant size, wrote it down, looked in his shirt and wrote the shirt size out of his shirt, gave me an incomplete list of measurements that I could not use to order his suit (missing an overarm, height, weight and shoe size) and did not actually measure anything else, just wrote the measurements of what he was wearing. They did not have him try on any samples. I called to ask for a refund because I now have had to send my groomsman somewhere else where they actually know how to measure him (and the measurements they did write down here were wrong), and the woman who answered the phone was incredibly rude, insisted she did his measurements herself and that they order all the time without an overarm measurement. I said that we paid for measurements that were not done and I believe a refund is due, she asked the owner who was "too busy to talk to me" and offered ten dollars. I said I was very unhappy with that as it seems petty and that there was no service given that payment was due for, and she said if I needed to leave a bad review to "go ahead." GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. PS- if they order without overarm "all the time" I would imagine they order some very sloppy looking or too tight jackets. read more

Not even a 1 star. I purchased a prom dress for my daughter and had it altered there. What a mistake. It cost me an $115.00 dollars for alterations that were so bad. The beading was all out of whack and the dress was not taken in where my daughter had asked. The workmanship was so bad. I emailed the place w/ pictures.. Got an email back that the owner was out of town, but would want to speak to me. Never heard from them. The owner should retire. read more

Worst customer service ever. My girls bought their bridesmaids gowns from here. They never called to let us know they were in and they never called once when the alterations were done. We also had a problem with one of the girls dresses. They continued to blame me that I was the one that ordered the dress wrong. My 2 sisters and I got our prom dresses from them 6+ years ago and the staff was fantastic then. Now years later we took our dresses (wedding dress and brides made dresses) to them for my 1 sisters wedding ONLY for alterations and they are amazing! The bridal shop we bought them from originally doesn't do alterations which should have been a sign to leave but an expensive lesson we had to learn unfortunately. Julia specifically has gone above and beyond to be helpful and tailor to our individual needs. I wish we would have bought all our dresses from candlelight I confidently think we could have gotten the same dresses for a more affordable price from an caring staff and gotten our alterations done in house instead of having to hope someone else would fit us into there alteration schedule. read more

I would never go there again. A week before my wedding, the owner did all she could to ruin my wedding. She got one of my bridesmaid dress wrong, claimed it was my fault, and still made us pay for it, PLUS $90 extra for alterations. Then, she talked trash about me on her business facebook, and decide to cancel my tux orders for all my groomsmen. In a way, it turned out great because we got the same exact tux else where and it was $80 cheaper. Thank God for Beach Bride in Fenwick, DE! read more
