Went here on a date and it was absolutely adorable! Definitely a family event as the booths are all targeted towards children so as adults it was a little less exciting. The house itself is kind of small but a scaredy cat like me still got scared by the jump scares. they also have an option to walk through with the lights which sounded like a pretty cute idea so you can learn more about it and not get scared. Each activity does have a ticket bought separately so just think about buying tickets first then walking around. Finally, there is food so if you want to go and get food, you can totally do that. I don't know if it is any good but I like the option! Finally, since this is in a parking lot, there is plenty of parking. Overall. A fun family friendly experience :) read more

It's that time again....time for caramel apples lol. I anxiously wait for the candlelighters ghost house to open up for the season so I can enjoy the apples and at the same time donate to a good cause. I go at least 3 times a week to get apples. I know this place is a tradition that has carried over many generations for many families whether it was attending or volunteering to work in the haunted house and now bringing your own kids. My brother and I also volunteered and got all made up to spook visitors coming through the ghost house when we were younger, good memories. The whole venue is small but it's family friendly and a nice place to enjoy. 2023 they are open from tonight, October 13th to the 30th. Bring cash, makes things so much easier for all. Caramel apples are $5. They have plain caramel, with sprinkles and with peanuts (my favorite). Volunteers are making them fresh and could be wrapped up if you want to take them to go. I saw that tickets for games are $1 and to get into the haunted house it's $5. They also have a food trailer with other snack items like popcorn, drinks and hotdogs with various reasonable prices. Fun games and prizes for young kids which includes face painting, caramel apples and a ghost house. There's even a good witch to take the smaller kids through who will make it less scary so that the teen actors in costumes will not jump out at them. The ghost house itself is set up with many turns and is in a barn from the 1800's. There are game booths and even a little Halloween store. The proceeds go for a good cause too. read more

I love that the City of Fremont and the Candlelighters Organization has kept this tradition going for so many years. I remember coming here as a kid and I love that I can now bring my own kids to continue the memorable experience. It'd be cool if they could open the house during the Christmas season as a Winter Wonderland complete with Santa Clause, elves ... ya know? (Wink wink). This is a super fun and cheap thing to do for Halloween with friends and family. My friend and I pass by this all the time, but this was the first time we came for the haunted house and we loved it. The haunted house is pretty scary (I'm a wimp) and the kids running it are very enthusiastic. There are also game and food booths. Tickets are only 50¢ apiece! Note that everything is CASH ONLY. We bought some apple cider (steaming hot) and Cookie Lady cookies (thin, crispy, and delicious). Would recommend! read more

The candlelighter's Haunted House is a place for good old fashion fun. The haunted house has been here each year that I can remember from 1980. I have made this our family tradition, since having my first daughter. It started off as excuse for me to get my favorite caramel apples, that I loved so much! The get a picture button with the family, for a memory of the day. Then as my children grew old enough to play the games, I seen a happy tradition I never wanted to end. I started off as a volunteer for the Candlelighter's back in 1981. I worked volunteering as a ghoul scary people in the haunted house, then working the lolly pop game, and the wheel of fortune game. I fell in love with the whole idea years ago, old fashion games and fun. I especially enjoyed seeing the kids eyes light up, and excited to run and play the next game in a row. This is a family place, and good for all ages young or old. This is not a haunted house you want to go as teenagers wanting to be super scared, this is more like scary fun. My kids have been going here for twenty years, and still play the games, a must have caramel apple, and walk though the haunted house. The games: They have ring toss game, pumpkin walk, wheel of fortune, lolly pop game, football toss, face painting, snack area, grandma's homemade caramel apples stand, walk through the haunted house [a different theme each year], photo booth area [get a picture, magnet, or button wearing funny hats], treasure chest game, popcorn stand, fish toss, a mini haunted accessories store, etc. Suggest just coming to get a caramel apple, you will be in heaven! read more

Perfect ghost house for young kids through middle school. Also for adults who still enjoy a little scare here and there. There's also the good fairy option, in case you need a little less scare, which as an adult I appreciated the 2nd time around, so I could admire and see all the scenes versus running through the house scared of every turn and screaming at the top of my lungs. All the volunteer staff were very nice, helpful and dressed to impress. A variety of games to play with small prizes, yummy treats, scarecrow contest and fun people watching with the array of costumes. The Candlelighters have been doing an excellent job at providing a festive, fun and family oriented event for the last 50 years! The only one thing that gets me coming back is their annual shopping maul held every year. I have not gone inside the haunted house yet, but in addition, the side vendors also attracts people. They have booths next to the haunted house and you can hang out with friends and enjoy being a kid again. You can see lots of families and kids hanging around during halloween season. My favorite booth is where they sell the caramel apple. Caramel tastes fresh and apples is nice, crisp and juicy. There are different toppings you can add-on like peanuts and sprikles, but my personal preference is the peanuts. Overall, fun for families, for kids, and also for adults. read more

Every year I always have to come here for their best caramel apples! They make it fresh on the spot with either topped sprinkles or topped nuts. Mmm They also had a bunch of cute and affordable kiddie games you can enjoy with your kids. I wish I had kids, so I would have an excuse to come here everyday. Cute little spot they open in October in the Fremont hub for the Halloween season. If you have kids it's a must to take them here they would love it. They have fun games, face paintings, a photo booth, food and a haunted house you can go inside for a nice spook. They offer the fairy tour if you have little ones with you so they don't get too scared, and children under 3 get in the haunted house for free. If you visit you should try the caramel apples they are really good I wait every year to get them. My favorite part is the photo booth they offer magnets and keychains which is a nice memory to make with the family. The magnets come out so cute and you can just put them on the fridge. They have cute little hats and ears to choose from that you can wear in the pictures that make it fun. Every year they change the background and they always choose really cute backgrounds. Like Holly, I've been going to this haunted house since I was little, and I'm now 45! I was an actress for it my 2 years in junior high too. In 2002 we moved to the Sac area, but we STILL come back each year with our kids! I look forward to reliving my childhood and watching my kids enjoy it again this year. Keep up the great work! Still fun and I know its for a good cause, but this year the ticket prices for all the activities double (from 25 to 50 cents) with the same cheap prizes being handed out. Seems they could at least cut a deal for buying a lot of tickets but no volume discount. read more

Fantastic for the young ones. I love haunts and I decided after I was invited by a group of fellow haunters, to go. We enjoy seeing haunts, and spending time out of character seeing what others to (sometimes we get great ideas). The house is what we call soft scares. The step out n make some noise but they don't go crazy as this is more for the young ones. The scenes are cute, and wonderfully designed. You can see they had loads of fun making it. The women running it love to do what they do. The event is $3 for entrance, and if your little one is too scared they have a good fairy line which lets them go through and the haunters will not pop out (a great idea for those young ones who are still jumpy). A small midway of games, food onsite (hotdogs, nachos, soda, chilli dogs and other carnival style foods) and costumed people walking around. For a good cause and a fun little treat for all ages. I suggest getting a caramel apple. It is well worth it! If I had kids I'd make a point of coming every year. I may go again next year because it was quite fun. read more

I am very disappointed in the staff's friendliness this year (2017). I went to the ghost house with American High School's band, who put on a performance for everyone at the ghost house - including the rude staff. First of all, there was a staff member who was an older woman, she kept yelling at everyone to clear the pathway, even though it was clearly the area in front of the band performance. After the performance, all band members received a voucher for a hot dog and a soda. A friend of mine who is vegetarian wanted to substitute the hot dog for nachos (which are cheaper than the hot dogs). We asked if this would be okay, in response we were denied by a very rude staff member working in the snack bar. Even if it wasn't okay to substitute, she still could have been a little bit nicer about it. The American High School band puts on an incredible performance every single year and the least the Candle Lighters Ghost House staff could do is provide equal or lesser substitutions for food (especially for those who need the substitution), and be more friendly. I definitely will not be returning next year if the same poor quality of service is provided. read more

Great time out. Went to the haunted house tonite with my grandson. It was a great time. Scared his pants off. Had fun on the midway too. Great value. Only complaint is the midway has too few booths for the number of people. But, a small price to pay for some hometown fun. read more

The haunted house was great. My kid screamed some blood curdling screams. The games were fun for my elementary school aged kid. For me, the caramel on the caramel apple tasted like it had a lot of additives. That was kind of gross. read more

We've been bringing our kids here since they were born and now they're in High School and they love working as characters in the Ghost House and helping with the games.
