Mary & Ruth are not just automatic pill dispensers. They combine their academic degrees, expertise, and years of experience understanding medical conditions and human behavior with seemingly endless care and concern for each person's welfare, along with a dose of good humor. Of course their historic building is crowded with greeting cards, gifts, and OTC health/personal care products--that's how independent pharmacies stay in business now. I am happy and determined to support their survival as the only pharmacy in town and thrilled not to have to drive substantially farther just to use an impersonal national chain. read more

I was asked to edit my original review posted back in 2017. We were new to Woodbury and visiting this corner drug store and the service was terrible. The selection of items were cluttered and a bit messy due to lack of space. The older lady, (perhaps the owner) followed us around the store making us feel unwelcome so we definitely will not be shopping here. There is a Barber Shop next door and the Barber was very friendly. There is another very nice mom & pop pharmacy in town and they welcomed us to Woodbury. read more

When I built my home and moved into the charming town of Woodbury, I quickly changed my pharmacy from the corporate CVS brick and mortar, to the historic, 150+-year old Canfield Corner Pharmacy. I love walking in and hearing the door bell jingle and the wooden floors greet my steps. The atmosphere brings you back to a time forgotten, and the staff of Mary, Ruth and Charlie are truly the kindest people you will ever find. Going into Canfield Corner Pharmacy is like taking a trip back in time. It's just like the drug stores I went to 60 years ago, selling all the toys and gizmos and candy I bought back then as a child except comic books. It even has a soda fountain, with stools (closed now) where Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller used to sit. Mary, the owner/pharmacist, is very friendly and efficient and remembers your name. Stopped here while on a getaway with my wife. She grew up around here and was able to give me some history of the place. It shares its space with a small barbershop on the end. Like it's name states, it's right on the corner across from a small patch of land with a gazebo and a few benches, probably picturesque in the fall. It's a small, quaint neighborhood pharmacy with a little bit of everything inside. Candy, cards, small trinkets and clothes. If you need it; they likely have it. The people are very friendly and it's definitely got that small town appeal to it. Prices on things are comparable and not overly priced. The history around the place should make it worth stopping in alone. Definitely a cool little pharmacy and glad I stopped in to check it out. read more

I might be biased because I know the owners, but I love this place. It's more than just a pharmacy, it's a landmark and a part of Connecticut's history. If I'm not mistaken, it's either the oldest or one of the oldest pharmacies in the state. Marilyn Monroe even frequented Canfield Corner back when the soda fountain still worked! Like most pharmacies, Canfield Corner has a gift shop as well, which is full of odd 'n' ends and brick-a-brack that will appeal to most people's tastes. The owner and head pharmacist even sells her homemade jams and jellies there which are out of this world and make me never want to buy Smucker's ever again. I haven't been in a couple years, but definitely want to make the trek out there sometime soon! read more

I think there should be a law that every quaint New England town should have a pharmacy like this. Back in the day, it had a working soda fountain, and it was a popular hangout for Marilyn Monroe (she was married to Arthur Miller at the time, and they lived in nearby Roxbury). The counter still exists, but it's now covered with merchandise. Besides being the spot to pick up your prescriptions, it has a shelves of nostrums that can cure anything (or, so they say). There are books by local authors, guide books to the area, and books on the history of the area. Need "penny candy"? They have it (except it's now in bags for $1.19). Lucky charms? Toys for the kids? Yup. You can find it there. Candy making supplies? You bet! It seems a bit crowded, and you can lose yourself in there for quite a while trying to figure out everything they have. I like it because it's the only place around that carries the correct size replacement cane tips I need. They're also very good about supporting local civic groups, and you can find posters and fliers for any and all community events stuck into the windows in the front. If you're in the area, it's worth stopping by to browse. I'm sure you'll find something for sale you didn't realize you needed. read more

A nice country pharmacy in an eclectic town. It is in a historic building having been around since the late 1800's that used to have a working soda fountain. It has been years since they stopped using it. They say that Marilyn Monroe used to be a frequent customer back in the day. There is an old fashioned barber shop next door with a vintage barber pole in front. Besides filling prescriptions they carry basic items like vitamins and other health and beauty items. They also have a variety of knick-knacks and touristy items. It is also one of the few places around where you can get the bar of poison ivy soap for when gardening season rolls around. Ruth and Mary are in charge of the store and dispense the prescriptions. It had been awhile since I last had anything filled, but they still had me in the system and double checked if my information was the same or had changed in any way. Ruth let me know they had less pricier versions that were just as good. She explained how often to take them and whether I needed to eat anything beforehand. I didn't take long for her to fill it. It is so nice not having to deal with the long lines like in the chain drugstores. I checked the prices on other items I need from time to time and found the prices comparable here. I will have to come in more often. read more

Great throwback store. Locally owned and operated, has a little but if everything. Was in a time crunch for a small ankle brace for my daughter's basketball game and they had exactly what I needed. It was inexpensive and a 100 times better experience than any chain drug store ! read more

This is certainly a quaint, idyllic store that is filled with history and old fashioned charm. However, our recent visit certainly made us feel that it was all a facade. When we ventured out to this local landmark, we anticipated an experience that would take us back to a time that was simple and friendly. Back to the days where your local Pharmacy was a neighborhood gathering spot and you were welcome with a smile and friendly hello. The attitude and temperament of the merchants was anything but welcoming or friendly. Charming, yes, but on a recent visit, we were ignored until the shop keeper reprimanded my friend and then accused her of tampering with merchandise. My friend's attempts at defending herself were met with what can only be described as chastising and intimidation by the shop keeper. Not only did we leave the store feeling bullied, but the woman who mistreated us as customers did not apologize for her rude and inappropriate behavior. The whole experience was ridiculous! It certainly made this local resident embarrassed and ashamed of such inappropriate behavior in front of a visiting guest. Apparently, all the charm in the world cannot make up for bad manners. read more
