It is a great option if you are sitting in traffic and would rather have a glass of wine! Their staff was very friendly, and they have a great assortment of wines to choose from. I brought home the Millbrook Hunt Country Red candle that has a pleasant mint aroma. I'm writing this review now because I opened their Special Reserve Brut on 5/16 w friends and was blown away by the mousse (tiny soft bubbles) that was an absolute delight! When I return this summer I will be bringing a few bottles home.

Bergen House is a craft meadery that opened in Middletown, Connecticut in September 2020. It was…read morefounded by army veteran Talon Bergen. He first began experimenting with homebrewing when his brother-in-law gifted him a Mr. Beer kit. The first batch of Bergen's homebrew was awful, but the kit came with an interesting book that he read over and over again. He soon became fascinated with the science behind brewing and fermentation. Later on, a friend gifted him a bottle of homemade mead. Bergen's wife Emilie liked it much more than any beer she ever tried, so he decided to try his hand at crafting mead. Mead is a fermented beverage made from a mixture of honey, water and yeast. It is the oldest fermented beverage known to man (predating beer, wine and cider). Like his first batch of beer, Bergen's first batch of mead was also awful. After several months, Bergen finally began making mead that was drinkable. The Bergens later had an idea to open their own brewery. After seeing how many breweries that Connecticut already had, they instead decided to open a meadery. The Bergens found a space in Middletown's old trolley barn building to house their meadery and taproom. Although not the state's only meadery, Bergen House is the only one to have its own taproom for on-site consumption. I recently visited Bergen House for the first time after going for a long bike ride on the nearby Air Line State Park Trail. I was greeted by Emilie Bergen who was very friendly and talked to me about the different meads. There were eight different meads on tap during my visit. Each one has different spices and fruits added for flavoring. I ordered a sampler flight which featured "Crime Scene" (Rye Bourbon Barrel-Aged Sweet & Sour Cherry Mead), "Local Buzz" (Dry Mead made with local honey from Hilltop Apiaries), "Wally" (Off-Dry Mead made with wildflower honey, green tea and Citra hops), and "Grapefruit Meads Business" (Wildflower Mead flavored with rosemary, grapefruit & ginger). The latter two were my favorites! Emilie also gave me a small sample of "Bochet": a traditional French Mead made with wildflower honey caramelized before fermentation. I ended up taking home a growlito of "Wally", which tasted a lot like a honey-infused New England IPA. I had a great experience at Bergen House and I look forward to returning!

9/14/25: Love coming to Fjord Vineyards!…read more We came for their Oyster Party Weekend. Marilyn greeted us when we checked in. She escorted us over to a table with a marvelous view of the vineyards. Maria was our wonderful and charming server. She came over with a complementary glass of their wonderful rosé wine. I'm not a rosé drinker, but it was delicious. We enjoyed a wonderful flight of wines. Our favorite was their '23 Double Fall Line $32. It has a marvelous smooth blend of Cab Franc, Merlot and Blaufränkisch (Austrian Blue) Grapes. Two bottles came home later. : ) Of course, we had to indulge in some wonderful lobster rolls. Each lobster roll was $23, plus for an extra $9 you get a nice dollop of caviar to top it off ! The lobster was from a company called Oyster Party in the NY area. I think the lobster rolls were some of the best I ever had. Just a couple of notes: - It appears the hill leading up to the vineyard was recently paved. Previously, it was extremely uneven. - Be sure to make reservations online. - Parking is available within steps of entering the vineyard. Can't wait to return! : D

I d passingly asked her for a different size bottle of a Chateau St. Michel and instead of offering guidance she started talking down to me about the cost and which type I would be purchasing. She was just nasty and she knows it. I will never return to this place again nor will I allow anyone to purchase anything from here for me. There are too many places to purchase wine, bring your money elsewhere.

I had never visited here before, but as I searched for my selection, I discovered their wide range of wines, with many hard-to-find bottles in stock. They also have a great selection of hard liquors, with many not found in other stores in the area. I managed to find a few more bottles to add to my purchase as I explored, and the nice lady at the register was friendly and helpful when I asked about a brand I didn't see (she knew exactly where it was - right down to the number of spaces from the end of the shelf!) The best is they open at 9am, which means I can stop by on my way home from the gym if I need something, instead of planning a separate trip out when the other stores open at 10am. Definitely a merchant I will visit again!
