The waves were a bit different here than more south in Newport, etc. The first day we came the reads we're 10 ft and we couldn't rent, who came blame a company for not wanting the liability and caring about your safety? No one. So, we extended our stay and came back the second day and the waves were perfect! They have an hourly and daily rental rates for surf boards, body boards, wet suits (a must in this OR water) and boots. We only rented the surf boards and they were in good condition. The price was reasonably compared to other surf shops in Oregon we've visited. Sure you can buy a foam board for a couple hundred dollars vs renting - but, this is convenient, keeps a business open, supports someones dream, and keeps money flowing in a beautiful small town - So, I'd ignore the other comment. Businesses run by making money, shocker. They had plenty of merchandise for purchase. Come with a license handy for renting. We were in and out in less than 5-10 mins with our boards. There's a beach right across the street and plenty surf spots within 30 mins or so. There's a cafe attached to the shop as well. From our 3 visits, including returning the boards, everyone was super friendly. They said they've been open for less than a year?! I hope they stick around, and this gem lasts for years to come. We all managed to get up on the boards and catch waves on our own. I had a bit of anxiety going into the water, but Lauren educated us on tides and surf etiquette before we got in. We are all different levels of swimmers and we all felt comfortable in the water with all the other surfers. I was also worried that I would freeze in the ocean in mid May, but the wet suits they provide kept me so warm that I couldn't even tell it was cold out. I will be returning for sure!

Although they were BUSY the staff were super kind and patient. I appreciated it so much. It's easy to be rude or impatient at the last third of summer to pushy/ clueless tourists trying to appease their kids on a COVID vacay! My only issue is we weren't warned about the dangerous beaches or given the tips of where to go. (I know it was because they were so slammed.) Lanny came…read moreout and was happy to strike up a conversation about surfing, surf boards, his history of shaping and then take the time to chat with me about my surfing, the boards and types of waves I ride and my goals. He recommended a board he had just shaped for me to try out. I came back 2 days later and borrowed the board to give it a test run, and it performed exactly like Lanny said it would! He had no idea who I was. Lanny was the most awesome, most interesting man I have spoken to. He DID NOT chase me off, DIDN'T chew my wife and I out...just very pleasant. He took us on a tour of his shop and showed us his elaborate cat trail and cat yard to protect his 5 cats! We then talked about his unique design shaping on stand up boards. Very informative. We didn't purchase one at that time, and Lanny knew we were not there to do that then. But he still took the time to help us. We are still thinking about the SUP we want, and we'll be sure to give Lanny a call! I suggest you follow him on instagram for some awesome design ideas. I did. DO NOT pay attention to the two poor reviews!! Not sure they were at the right place.
