I wish I could give this review more than 2 stars, but honestly, I think 2 stars is pushing it a little high. I brought my nephews in for a few kites. I told the owner I wanted 2 kites that flew easily. My nephews are young. He sold me 2 kites that honestly looked like Walmart 4.99 kites for $22 each with string. I already have a kite. I put the kites together properly and we walked onto the beach with my aging kite and the boys 2 new kites. As always, my kite flew like a dream. The breeze was about 12ish MPH. One of the kites simply wouldn't fly because it kept listing to the left and diving into the ground, over and over. We gave up on that kite and focused on the other purchased kite which was flying okay, not great, but okay. At this point my pre-owned kite was a good 200 feet up in the sky doing beautifully. And that's when it happened. The second new kite shop kite that we could actually get to fly, (unlike the 1st one that wouldn't fly and was in my backpack at this point), broke. The horizontal support bar snapped right in half. Now I had 2 little boys crying on the beach. Meanwhile, my old kite was still flying like a Lear jet. I am more than disappointed. read more

The service at the Kite Factory is awesome. The dude running the shop has great information on kites, sharing the information freely. The entrance makes the quirky, mysterious when you need to call and he'll open the shop just for you, making it feel like a private shopping experience. First met him when a kite I purchased elsewhere broke. He fixed my kite for next to nothing. I can honestly say that since that experience I've only bought kite's from him. I think he sold me 10+ kites from the Kite Factory. The Kite Factory is a great value for the money. read more

I've been coming to this place since I've been a kid, and two summers ago had the privilege of taking my own kid there for the first time. Wizard has himself become a long-term friend and staple attraction of Cannon Beach. Pinky's Kite Factory is not closed! My parents bought a kite at Cannon Beach in the mid 1980's and I have many fond memories flying it. I brought my family to Cannon Beach for their first time. I had the old kite with us. The "Wizard" at Pinky's sewed a torn loop on it and helped us purchase a new tail to restore the kite. In addition, my son purchased a stunt kite which the "Wizard" patiently explained to my son how to fly it. The "Wizard" is not about pushing products but enabling a fun experience! Pinky's is great but the "Wizard" is a phenomenal person!!! read more

Great funny little place. A little sketchy but after all sometimes those are the best places. I had called ahead of time to find out the hours because I had heard in other reviews that the hours were very hit or miss. The gentleman said if there were no customers he left. "I've had two customers in the last six hours. If this keeps up, I'm just going to go. But we open every day at 9:30." So that in mind we showed up around 11:30-noonish and he was open. Pros: Small little place - very helpful. Felt like be wasn't trying to get money out of you. We didn't know what kind of kite we needed for today and with the wind -- we said we have no idea what we want, what do you think? He walked us through which kites would be best for today with the wind that we had and how to fly it. He even switched out the string for us at no extra cost. Cons: obviously the hours are not consistent but it opens every morning sounds like. But it was a great experience and we got our kite! read more

Great selection of kites. Broke one of the carbon fiber rods on the box kite I bought. Brought kite back and the shop owner was able to come up with a replacement part. Very knowledgeable about kites. Worth going back to buy another kite. read more

The interior is pretty dumpy, and the hours are unpredictable. But there's a huge selection of kites, and the prices are great. Best of all - the staff is ridiculously helpful - they explained how to use the kite, checked that the package had everything it needed (they even through in a non-tangle spinner for free), and gave us some patch tape for a kite we had at home. read more

TIE DYE DUDE IS HIGHER THAN A KITE I broke a spar on my Prism kite and took it to the kite factory to purchase a new spar. The "Big Lebowski" - a bearded dude who looked like he missed his calling as a biker and smelled like dope was sitting at the counter. I asked him if I could purchase a spar - this is where it gets good...he says "You have to contact the manufacturer. Prism uses a different tube thickness.". So I tell "Dude" the ends where the tube fits in are rubber and will probably stretch to fit a slightly larger diameter. "Nope. You'll have to take it up with Prism.". So I ask to just SEE a slightly oversized spar or anything that he has in stock. "I don't have any oversized or undersized tubes.". This entire scenario is right out of Monty Python. At this point it is apparent to me that A) DUDE is being rude for his own enjoyment. B) DUDE wants me to BUY a new kite so I can enjoy my holiday. C) DUDE is higher than any kite I've ever flown. I went to the only other kite shop in town and the gentleman there was extremely kind and helpful - fixed my kite with a standard spar and gave me 2 extras to keep. Cost? Zero. I not only insisted on paying for the spars, but I purchased another kite just because. Bottom line - skip The Kite Factory (or as I came to call it The BullShite Factory). Everything from the hours to the owner are sketchy and ify. Maybe he'll be nice to you or maybe he'll decide it would be more fun to treat you like the tourists he obviously doesn't like. Plus you're kids won't ask you what that funny smell was in the store. read more

A fun find. Not only did we come away with the perfect kite, we had made a friend. Small kites , huge kites, beautiful kites. My daughter picked out the perfect butterfly kite. It is a great stop before you hit the beach. read more
