It came with a great folding ladder for easy access to the water as well as a Garmen GPS screen. The stereo was perfect for entertaining the kids and we had a blast on Longboat Key for the day. Brought a boat down from up north this year and kept it in the water at a local marina. Two months ago, I asked Cannons if they would be able to clean the boat before I headed back up north. I was very clear with them that the boat had been in the water for 3 months and was full of barnacles. They said no problem and took the appointment. Now on the day of the appointment they informed me that the boat was too dirty and that they would not clean it leaving me high and dry. read more

I just had my 2020 Yamaha 300hp engine and boat serviced at Cannons last week. It was one of the best service experiences I have ever had, especially with marine dealerships. The service manager, Levi, was very attentive, gave me an estimate as to when the boat would be ready and then was sure to complete it when promised. I received total costs up front as well as an estimation of what some unknown issues might cost. The final price was exactly what was quoted including parts and labor. No surprises! My family has visited Cannons for decades. Whenever I've visited my parents on LBK, or when my grandparents lived nearby (but inland), I've always stopped at Cannons for bait/lures, and I even managed to buy my rod & reel here on my last visit. My generous grandfather, gone for almost 15 years now, always wanting to keep us grandkids entertained, would frequently rent boats from Cannons, and it made us feel like we were kings. Wow! We have been coming here for years!!!! They just lost a customer!!! Just so everyone who reads this is aware they are up charging and scamming on fuel! We only used 3 gallons to Jewfish key and back and they charged us 7 gallons!!!! When we didn't even use that! And they have the guy working there keep clicking the gas to make it over flow to charge you! It's so crazy and very shitty on their part! They just lost a long time customer!!! And just to clarify the response from the business. They knew exactly what they were doing, we are boat owners and know how much full goes in and how much burns. We went to Jewfish and back. In a no wake zone. We aren't burning 7 gallons!!! Also More proof was the guy that pulled In After us was also at jewfish with the same boat and was next to us at jewfish, he burned 3.59 gallons but also left jewfish and came back, so how did he burn less gas when he drove more? But some how we burned 7 gallons?!? Something doesn't add up and my husband who thank goodness knows boats and motors knew right away and called cannons out! She tried to refuse their mistake then said ok we'll give you 2 gallons back, my husband was like no , your Still ripping me off , so they gave us 3 back but in the end they still stole from us and ripped us off! I'll never go back again but ppl who do t j ow their stuff will most likely get ripped off and money stolen from this scam their doing with the gas! I just want ppl to be aware! read more

A Great day in March made even better by this Can on boat rental! Initial rental accomplished online. We opted for a 24' deck boat- probably less than 2 years old- with Yamaha 250hp outboard. Nice Bimini top for shade; plenty of room for the 6 of us (could easily accommodate 8) clean boat, friendly, helpful staff. They offer smaller boats but our full day rental cost $450 plus tax, plus 12 gallons of gas we used. Great bay waters and we ventured into the gulf as well as several sand bar Sunday groups. Cannon's is the worst Marina ever! If I could give a lower star I would. We bought a beautiful boat from Brandan, at Cannons, who was wonderful!! So fast forward to last week after we sold it. Although living an hour away based on the amazing customer service and trust of the company, we immediately call Cannons. The boat did not have a trailer and we agreed to detail and lift out of the water before the new owner picked it up. The new owner was to pay for wrapping and loading on the truck, as it was to be trucked across the country. In setting up the date, to ensure everything was done, we scheduled but due to Hurricane Ian coming they were understandably not taking boats. Luckily the storm did not hit this area and plans remade to take the boat to Cannons with agreed services. I drove the 2 hour round trip and due to family a big part of the city of Longboat key, was able to park my vehicle a mile down the road. After arriving my husband went in to pay $1200+ for the services, I asked the young deck hand if I could get a ride less than a mile of which he replied "needed to ask boss." He approached the lady at the front desk who rudely stated that the boss was busy. I tried to get an Uber to my disappointment was 20 minutes out, so I asked the multiple people standing around how far it was to be told "about a mile" so I ran there to pick up my vehicle. The most alarming thing about the whole encounter was That I was REALLY concerned as they now stated they didn't have anyone to wrap the boat (although that part was being paid for by the new owner, I was assured prior to bringing the boat to Cannons that coordination between the company Cannons used for wrapping, the new owner, the time of detail, and the wrap were confirmed). When I mentioned that I was concerned that the boat would get trashed driving such a distance if not wrapped, a voice from one of the employees stated "what are you worried about, you don't own it anymore." That is NOT my nature and the lack of integrity of this company astonishes me. But that was not the worst!!!! The new owner called on Monday to state that the detail was NOT done, we tried to reach Cannons and 3 days later this was confirmed, they did NOT conduct services paid for AND NEVER CONTACTED US. The woman who answered the phone and refunded the money (times two since she accidentally charged the money again). When asking her if they planned to let us know they didn't do the work and refund us the money, she stated "we would eventually find it and contact you, we do the books every 3 days." Obviously not!!!!! This boat was too big for us but we love Grady Whites and Cannons has the most Grady's, unfortunately we will be taking our business elsewhere and suggest you do the same. read more

Unresponsive I decided to sell my boat and contacted Cannons through there website for information. After 2 days I did not receive a reply so gave them a call. Talked to someone who took my name and phone number and told me someone would call me shortly. Four days later I'm still waiting for a return call. Needless to say I listed with different broker. If they don't return my calls I have doubts about them returning calls from potential buyers. read more

We rented a 18' boat for a half-day in the morning from Cannon's. Making a reservation online was very quick and easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided us with a chart of the area and recommended things to see, including a deserted island right off the gulf coast. We even saw dolphins! The boat was older, but in very good condition. As a novice, I felt very comfortable driving it even in the gulf. I wished I rented a 21' or 22' boat to go further out in the gulf; The 18' was just a little too small to handle the larger chop outside of the channel areas. If you can, I'd recommend renting the boat for a whole day since there is so much to see and do. My only suggestion would be to equip the boats with GPS units as the charts can be confusing for novices and the one provided to us was outdated. Definitely not a dealbreaker though! read more

We showed up to rent a boat today and the boat needed serious work on the steering. It was almost impossible to steer the boat and we had to return it. The fact that they would even attempt to rent the boat shows a serious flaw in their concern for safety. They told us that the people that used it before us didn't tell them there was a problem. Have been renting boats from this place for years and have to say, this past time will be our last. Although the boat was nice and the price was fair for a day of rental, the staff just did us in. When arriving to pick up the boat in the morning, the woman was rude. We brushed it off being that it was early and I can understand not everyone is a morning person. Got our boat, had a wonderful day enjoying the water. Got stuck in a crazy storm in the late afternoon where the gulf and bay meet towards the siesta key side. When we got through the storm, we had plenty of time to make it back to the Marina at normal speed. However, going back through the bay side between Sarasota and Longboat Key, there are extremely low areas when you turn off of the channel. We were never given specific maps of the low areas (just a general map of where the marina was) or instructed on how to go through these. Literally 1.5 feet of water. Obviously we slowed to nearly idle speed to get through these as to not harm the prop. About 15 minutes prior to 5:00 (time we had to return our boat), we knew that we would be pushing it at this speed so we called to let them know we were possibly running late. When we got into the marina at 5:15 (going idle speed per instructions in the marina), they charged us $100 for being late. $100 on a $400 boat rental for being 15 minutes late, even with a phone call. They accused us of taking our time when getting off the boat (my mom took a picture of a rainbow... didn't know that was offensive to anyone) and told us they were watching us come in and we "didn't even try to go fast to get through the marina". Duh - you told us not to!! We asked that they try to accommodate us on the $100 - it's not even about the money but the principal behind it. Front desk lady was again, EXTREMELY rude. I run a business and have to say that if I had an employee like that, wow - she would be gone (but I guess it's Florida in the summertime so you don't have your pick of the litter when it comes to great employees). She basically threw our receipt in my face and said "nothing I can do about it now, it's paid". She also told me she didn't care if she was rude, she was just being blunt. Ultimately, I spoke with someone who appeared to be a manager (said he was not the owner) - said he knew my husband and family since he was a little boy coming in. I let him know I thought the owner would probably prefer that he try to accommodate his customers - especially long time customers. He said the owner would prefer we were charged for keeping them on overtime to bring our boat in. Again, we could care less about the $100, but the principal was the big thing. Ultimately, no one at Cannons cared enough to give us the time of day. I finally gave up talking to these people and when I walked out the door I noticed what the hours were: they are open until 5:30pm. HA!!!! And you told me you were getting paid OVERTIME when you were still open? Laughable. I consider myself an extremely reasonable person because I run a business where we deal with the public and difficult circumstances every day. I employ people to take care of customers, even through challenging situations, and I give them the authority to do what they need to in order to make sure people feel they are treated fairly. Giving people this authority to take care of your customers is really priceless - it enables them to make decisions (like, "Sure, we appreciate you guys trying to bring the boat back safely through 1.5' deep water and a idle speed marina - we know these areas are a little troublesome for people not familiar with them. You've been a long time customer so we'd be happy to waive the late fee. We look forward to seeing you guys again next year"). Anyway, the staff here failed and ultimately, that $100 is the last amount they'll receive from us instead of continued repeat business generating much more money than that. read more
