over all the the fairways were in decent shape and the greens were ok. The traps were the worst i've ever played there was no sand in them but plenty of rocks. For what they charge the traps were unbelievable bad. And they should be ashamed i will not be back there are to many other courses around that take pride in the product they put forward. read more

Certainly an interesting course. The rating may be closer to a 3.5 but I went ahead and rounded up. An unusual fact about the course is that there are six par 3s ... and they were all pretty challenging. They were relatively long, and like a lot of holes on the course, there is significant desert scrub between the tee boxes and the fairways. If playing from either of the two back tees, you need some distance and accuracy to clear the scrub and get to the fairway/green. The surfaces - tee boxes, fairways and greens - were in pretty good shape; there were some good views of the Sierrita Mountains; a very friendly staff; and good food in The Grill on The Green. My brother and I agreed that this is a course worthy of a return. read more

The golf course is a jewel. Good tee boxes, excellent fairways and very good greens. This is a good test of your ability to keep the ball in play and out of the many fairway and green side bunkers. Multiple sets of tees allows you to play the length of course that suits your game. A word about the desert rough...don't go there. The lies in there are mostly unplayable and there are things that bite that inhabit the overgrown areas. The pro shop has a good selection of all of the things that you need for your golf game and a friendly staff to get you on the first tee. The grill is a great place to finish up your round. The food was very good, well presented and the wait staff was attentive and professional. Overall great day at the course and I look forward to coming back again soon. read more

Nice golf course but ... 1. The course is surrounded by millions of acres of desert but, they can't find sand to put in the sand traps, go figure 2. The golf pro should invite a friend to play the course for the first time. Let the friend drive the cart and don't tell the friend how to find the 10th tee. Guaranteed to be an embarrasing experience. Zero signs directing you to the 10th tee. I wonder how many people end up going the wrong way through the dark tunnel that ends up at the 18th green? 3. The cart guy who is stuck in the 60s needs to realize that he has a job because people come to play golf. He acts like people are playing golf becaause he is there. By the way, he acted like I was interrupting his day because I couldn't find a sign directing golfers to the 10th tee. If your tired of answering the question, make a suggestion to someone who cares and get signs installed. read more

I've played this course many times growing up, and think it's very beautiful and have always had a pleasant time. Today was different. I had one of the worst customer service experiences in my life. The starter who was supposed to be helping us tee off, was extremely rude to my mother and step-dad, insulting their intelligence and swearing right to our face. My mom was going to play out of my bag, but also paying to play, we were not going to cheat them out of any money. Obviously that was an issue for their employee. When confronted, he was immature and obscene. Also, I felt like I might have smelled alcohol on his breath. We did not play at Canoa Ranch. Go to Tubac instead. read more

I come here often because the views are amazing and it is a relaxing course to play. Played a few times here this summer and the greens are nice. The fair ways are nice as well and I love the curves of a lot of the holes. There is alot of wildlife to be seen as well and I love seeing the beverage cart regularly. They provide ice and a cart cooler to keep your beverages cool as well and the water coolers on the course are always full and cold. read more

We love playing this course because of the beautiful views. Challenging enough for modest players. We felt the course was in good shape today. Lost a few balls in the desert scruff, but otherwise had a good round. Water available every few holes. No beverage cart today. We will return often. Update 3/30/19...course is still worthwhile, challenging play with great scenery. However, the staff was less than stellar today, from the pro shop to the starter. Pro shop staff personnel was rude to customers and unapologetic to the couple in front of us who made tee times on golf now that she refused to honor. Offered no help to remedy the situation. They appeared to be short staffed all the way around. Saw the beverage cart once in 18 holes. Will not return until Fall. read more

They sent me and my father out on the back nine first. This turned out to be a good move on the part of the club house. If I'd seen the course in the other order I may have scored it differently. We were impressed by the mountain views, but distressed by the lack of respect shown to the course by those who came before us. The greens were literally pockmarked by unrepaired ball marks, the fairways neglected, and the rough was littered with cigarette butts and empty soda cans. The holes themselves were nicely challenging, with a lot of rolling hills, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that this was a course still under construction. Then came the front nine. Wow. They had a couple of named holes out back, but the front ones really deserve to be their signatures. The second and ninth specifically are bears. The front is what golf can be. The back is what it (unfortunately) often is. I'd recommend this course, but not over San Ignacio and Canoa Hills just up the street (I haven't played them recently enough to review them, but from memory they'd merit 4 and 5 stars, respectively). read more

Played the full 18 and the course wasn't in the best condition because of the time of year, but we still had a great time. I love the scenic views on the back 9 as you are literally hitting towards Madera Canyon, oh and we also received a free burger with our round of golf ($23), so can't complain. We booked a 3-day golf lesson and stay at Canoa Ranch through a 3rd party vendor, a vendor that we now know is disreputable. I'm not allowed to mention the name of that company, so PLEASE be careful when booking golf packages through 3rd party vendors that have offices in Mississippi!! Use John Jacobs instead. We're out $3,000, but you don't need to be! Even though Canoa Ranch had no complicity in our predicament, the golf folks at the pro shop there where concerned for us - they were absolutely fabulous to us when they found out what had happened. Not only did they allow us to play their 2 courses without any fees during our stay, but the Golf Manager actually had a John Jacobs golf pro come down from Phoenix to give us a day of lessons free of charge! The lesson was great - we're seasoned veterans, but got a lot out of the lesson and are incorporating a number of John Jacobs ideas into our golf swings. (Thanks, for the lesson, Jon! Thanks for making it happen, Mike!) After such a disheartening start to our vacation, the golf team at Canoa Ranch renewed our faith in the goodness and compassion of most people, and allowed us to enjoy the rest of our stay in AZ. I can't thank them enough. BTW, the courses are in great condition and have wonderful layouts - I believe that all levels of golfers will find them to be fun and challenging. We will be back, and will use John Jacobs the next time! read more

This course is well designed and from the azule tees very challenging. The views are nice as is the absence of housing. However the course is in dreadful shape. The fairways have patchy grass, the greens rock hard and some have a scarred surface, and the traps have little sand. We paid $34 and a fair price. One wonders who the green keeper is and what his budget is. read more

I participated in a match play tournament against the crosstown league in Tucson this past weekend. Saturday was a practice round and Sunday was a matchplay shotgun tournament. I'm a novice, high handicapper, and I found the course challenging. The fairways are pretty wide and straight. No overwhelming water hazards that you need to hit over. Some bunkers are located strategically in front of the hole to psych out novices. The good players probably didn't have any problems, but I lost a whole box of balls on Saturday and another box on Sunday because the roughs are high and swallow up the balls. If you're unlucky enough to miss the fairway altogether and hit it out into the "junk"/desert, the landscaping is overgrown and since it's currently rattler season, it's not advisable to go looking for the errant ball. Hence, if you're kinda lousy, come with a lot of balls. Also the 18th hole was very difficult for me. There's two desert breaks in the fairway. Since I don't have any distance or accuracy, trying to strategically hit lobs close to the end of one fairway and then lob it over the break onto the next part of the fairway that's uphill was a lost cause for me. As you can image this is where I lost more than 1 sleeve of balls just to get anywhere near the green. One of the nice features of the course was the GPS enabled carts! I think the course is a little understaffed due to the bad economy and coordination among the staff could be better. My practice round on Saturday was in the afternoon. The cart lady never made an appearance, and there aren't any water stations on the course. I could have used some drinks and a cup of ice. On Sunday, there were two tournaments that were going to take place around the same time. The course obviously didn't have enough fairway markers for two tournaments. They favored the local men's tournament over our ladies' tournament and so when we got to some closest-to-the-hole/longest-drive holes, there weren't any markers there and so we had to improvise. Some of my teammates were having breakfast before the tournament. The poor server wasn't given a till, and so if you bought anything you needed to have exact change if you paid with cash. Our tee time was 8:15AM, and yet the landscaping crew showed up and started to mow the 18th hole around 9:00AM as we were playing! Didn't staffers tell the landscaping crew that there was a shotgun tournament already going on? Lastly, what's up with not having any numbering on the holes? (I guess I could always consult the GPS to tell me which hole I was playing...) read more

Wow I can't believe some of the same terrible staff are still are employed here. Scottsdale golf group is proving to be incompetent and can't get anything right after managing it for 3+ years. The only good thing they have done is got rid of the GM Rick Williams, a man who they personally hired. This guy was the worst. An arrogant a**hole that didn't know how to manage anything correctly. Ok, I play alot of golf, at alot of places. Being younger i tend to get a little bit of attitude at older staffed courses. This one stood out, I did not feel welcome at this place, the staff was very rude. I don't live in tuscon, but when I go back it wont be there for that reason alone. The course was pretty nice. Unfortunately the staff wasn't! There was a nice lady in the bar that made some great cookies. Cranberry white chocolate deliciousness. I give her a 5 star! read more

I regularly play this course over the winter months. Played it last week. I was pre-warned by the outside cart guys that the greens were "in terrible shape" (their words) and everything else - fairways, tee boxes and rough - were in good shape. This is what I found: the fairways, tee boxes and rough were in good shape, as they said. The re-seeding application was done very well. But, the greens were like putting on moon craters. Seven out of the first ten greens had less than 70% grass. There was obviously a disease that has damaged the greens. I also found that the sand traps were not sand traps, but rather mud traps. The sand traps were so bad that my playing partners advised me "just pick up your ball and drop it on the fairway turf". Golfed at other courses in the immediate area and no other course was having the same issues with their greens or bunkers. Because of the course's condition, I believe this is a management and superintendent problem. They're not paying attention to the details. Other courses in the area that are in good condition are charging much less than Canoa Ranch. read more

I would actually give 3 1/2 star if I could. Hotel is nice. Golf Course is nice but not exceptional. Conditions were pretty good. Greens were very well kept. Private course like conditions. The only thing was the resort and development around the resort makes the views and such not that great. I want to feel like I'm out on a golf course and not a golf course put in around a housing track. The houses don't really come into play but just some of the holes made me feel like I in a housing track not a golf course.... read more

Really??? This is what the course looks like after it's been closed for over three months?? I've played golf on three continents, and have no problem playing high end private clubs or daily fee munies; but don't lie to me on your website and tell me the entire place has been refurbished, when quite obviously, literally NOTHING has been done to the course to improve its horrid conditions. If your idea of an ideal course is a motley patched fairways featuring bare patches of dirt and mud, combined with an ubiquitous fungus that seems to have permeated the entire breadth of the course...if your ideal greens look lik,e another patchwork quilt of light brown sand and dark brown fungus in addition to clover and weedy spots...then, by all means, give the full price greens fees to this smug crew and a disingenuous golfing establishment. A question posed...Does anyone in the entire golf staff understand that outside players most likely belong to a club of their own back home? And really...why the attempt at attitude? If your representing a 5 star course, you still need to be reflexive to the paying customer AND the club member...but at this place? With the conditions at this club, I'd be thankful just to have someone actually show up and play. If there was a negative rating, I'd give it to this course. Don't play here...there's so many other great clubs in the Tucson area. read more

I played the course 5 years ago and couldn't wait to get back. Arrived in Canoa Ranch last week. First course I played was Canoa Ranch and was I disappointed!!!!!! The course has suffered greatly from lack of maintenance. Very thin fairways with many dirt spots, and the greens in some cases were unplayable requiring moving your ball due to patchwork repairs to the greens. Brakes on cart were very poor. I can go on but you get the picture,, a beautiful layout ruined by the management company that should be supporting it. Feel very sorry for the folks that purchased homes in the area and anyone who has booked a golf/stay at the adjacent Wyndham. read more

We have been playing Conoa Ranch for the last few Sunday afternoons. The women who is working in the shop, has been letting non golfer take the carts out to ride around when there are golfers playing. Last Sunday, we came up on 2 parents in 1 cart and 2 children between 8 & 10 driving in the other cart. The children were doing cartwheels where we had spotted our balls to land. The parents were already on the green. As we were having dinner in the bar 3 more children came driving by in 1 cart. As we were leaving they were playing on the #1 tee box. Another time we played, I was set up to hit my second shot on #18. Three girls came around came by me in 1 cart and yelled, we are lost. They continued to drive slowly, up to the green. We had to wait around 15 minutes for them to leave the area. They drove on to the green to take pictures. We told the women at the pro shop desk. She said it OK for those who stay in the condos to take the carts out. That there is no regulation with their insurance only allowing 2 in a cart. We have always play golf with out children and grandchildren all over the country. Never allowed more than 2 in a cart. Plus it states on carts, "Only license driver to be operating the carts" This course is being turned over to non golfers. Really sad, because it was once a great challenging course to play. Someone needs inform the new women working the desk at the pro shop, it is dangerous for non golfers to be on the course. Children should not be driving golf carts or playing on the fairways and greens. Other friends have stop playing there for these same reasons. Sad the other 2 courses have closed. This would not have been allowed at either of them. read more

We have played this course several times over the past several years when visiting my folks in GV. Canoa used to be a very first class course that has seen decline in the conditions and staff from its early days. The people at the desk are very rude and unwelcoming, especially the woman. I forgot her name. A smile wouldn't hurt please. The past few times we just about asked for our money back. The course has beautiful views and is a great layout but is not kept up well. Hopefully more prosperous times will come back to GV and with increased business Canoa can put some money back into the course. The dining room has great burgers!!! The gullies between the holes are littered with trash from the illegal immigrants making their way through. I know that is hard to control but a bit of a better effort would go a long way. And for goodness sake please get some club cleaners on the course and get rid of the buckets of dirty standing water. They are dirty and unsafe to have around as they attract mosquitoes. I hope the best for Canoa because we used to LOVE it. read more

I wasn't here to play golf but to eat a light lunch with some friends. Grill On The Greens is the name of the clubs restaurant. We were seated promptly, asked for our drink orders and shortly after our lunch selections were taken.I ordered the Caprese salad which consists of tomatoes,mozzarella cheese and grilled eggplant topped with fresh basil. Thin slices of tomatoes,and cold old eggplant slices layered between mozzarella slices. When a eggplant gets old the creamy white inside turns gray and bitter, I know, I make my own eggplant dishes. The kitchen must have been out of fresh basil because her substitute was broken up pieces of spinach and I know the difference, I grow my own basil, but the cook thought he pull a fast one. I even questioned the waitstaff and she assured me that the head chef used basil, sure he would say that, he probably also lies when he play golf too. I'll return again for drinks and appetizers because the place is nice but don't try to fool this old nine iron. read more
