I am fostering-to-adopt a kitty through ARNNE and Canobie was their preferred vet. Not being able to choose my baby's doctor was nerve racking but Dr Handley is I N C R E D I B L E!!! She is kind, patient and thorough. I felt at ease with my kitty in her care. I had about 20 questions each visit and he has a multitude of health conditions. She would go through my list and answer each one and give advice. I also appreciate her through but gentle approach. I will never bring my cats here ever again!! my baby gets blocked when he got stressed and they wouldn't give me a prescription for his food to last two months until his yearly check up so the second time he went back he got sick again!! had to bring him to the Manchester emergency vet and tried to save him agai!! he finally passed away on may 28th 2026 due to blockage at the age of 4!! If I could give 0 stars, I would. I just moved to NH and ended up with a very sick geriatric kitty. This place was recommended by a friend but I was very disappointed with the way I was treated on the phone. They told my friend they had emergency openings but when I called they said they had nothing for several days. I told them my cat could be dead if I didn't get her to a vet asap. The girl on the phone was rude and uncaring despite the fact that I was crying and desperate to find help for my cat. There are much nicer ways to explain things to a distraught potential new client. I had already filled out their paperwork online and paid the $20 deposit so I asked for a refund. She made it seem like it was a hassle to return my deposit. I had to email them to request my money back instead. I have spent thousands on my pets' healthcare and I will gladly take my money back to Pet Well Clinic in Methuen, where my cat was loved & cared for as if one of their own. I definitely do not recommend this office and I hope management hires some caring employees who don't seem to hate their job. read more

When Dr. Dressel was here, our experience was fantastic with her. However, the constant pressure to upchatge clients, the attitude of the front end staff and tech staff, (for example, being short with clients, not communicating while we waited in an exam room, and arguing with me when I waited for the return of another doctor to comeback Into the room or for a tech or anyone to come back in while I waited with our dog.) The reception staff literally berated me, nastily, for asking how much longer the wait would be. Another time, faced with the attitude of being talked down to, being reprimanded by an older receptionist, when getting a confused message. I feel like reception really has a dislike for clients, and I'm not sure where it's coming from. I've even spoken to the manager about it. I wasn't impressed by the other doctor we saw. I felt like she had school loans to pay off and was pushing for extra tests and charges that were unnecessary at the time. At several points, on a few different visits, a tech talked down to me, which was very unpleasant each time. I have experience working at several veterinary centers over the years, so I know what should and shouldn't be said and how things should be presented in front of clients. So, although the facility is very clean, I do not recommend becoming a client here unless money is no object and you like the convenience of the location. read more

I came here to get a check up health exam to fly my dog, and then leave wanted me to do bloodwork teeth cleaning some other kind of medicines that I had no idea. We went here with all my pets. During pandemic we waited almost 2 hours from our initial appointment before our pets being picked up and no apology too ok, we understand they are slam yada 2x we moved on, I switched rabbits vet to littleton animal hospital they are awesome. My dogs still go there, My husband typically attend the appointments. EVERYTIME! Including the appointment only with the nurse only they have to be late. My husband always have to wait for a long time for the appointment. That's fine.... We understand they probably understaff or slam, eye rolled we move on. So today, I was busy slam at work I running late. I know I am going to be a bit late so I called them that I am on my way and will be a bit late like 10-15 mins max. She keep going on and on saying if u are late more than 15mins we cannot see you, because that's basically the whole appointment she said. "Oh! So my husband went there every time and have to wait for hour and thats fine for you but I can't be 10-15 minutes late for one time? And if you actually let me go now, i can get my dog and I can make it there in 10 minutes" Went there, as soon as I sat in the room the vet tech told me that my dog due for blood work. I know it was my husband who came all the time, but I remembered we did blood work last time my dog came in, told her to recheck it as I check w my husband, and yes indeed it was done 2 weeks ago. So since my dog been in cone of shame for a whole 2 weeks she developed ear infection, dr. Hendley wants to test for culture? And give meds for the ears, Another round of pain killer and antibiotics, also dewormer that we didn't picked up last week because there is no worm on the blood test result. Total will cost us over $800. If I didn't caught bloodwork I don't know how much they charge for bloodwork there littleton charge $300 for my sick rabbit. It's my whole paycheck of a week! I feel sick that I want to trust Doctors, I want to go and believe everything they say we go to hospital because we seek help. Why do we have to be suspicious? Why do we have to pick and choose which treatment I want and not? Can you all be trustworthy?? We willing to pay whatever needed if it is really necessary but if you just try to squeeze everything you can try to squeeze out of silent victim who can't tell us they are in pain or treated badly you are monster in the name of 'heros' you should be ashamed of ur self! read more

All four of my dogs are seen at Canobie Lake Vet and they are absolutely fantastic. The vet techs and front desk staff have always been amazingly friendly and helpful. With as many dogs as I have I'm sure you can imagine how many appointments I have had there. I've never encountered anyone as being less than friendly or unhelpful. I couldn't imagine being my pets to any other place. Also, to comment on others who have said they try to upsell you: they truly care about your pets and any tests or treatments they recommend are because they have your pet's best interest in mind. They are not trying to make money. They are trying to help you take care of your pet. read more

PLEASE READ THIS! We lost our dog Millie tonight. She had a C-section surgery a few days ago at Canobie Lake Vet with DR DYLE. The first two days she came home she was very lethargic. Couldn't even stand up to go to the bathroom. We brought her in early this AM...they ran tests and diagnosed her with colitis. They kept her the whole day and gave her IV fluids and antibiotics. Every time the doctor called to update us they would tell us she was fine and "improving compared to this morning". She had low blood pressure and still wouldn't eat. They told us to bring her to an ER vet at 5pm so that she can be monitored and get fluids overnight. Canobie brought her out on a stretcher...and told us this was normal!!! She couldn't even walk. They told us she was ok and that this was because they sedated her. NO pain medication is supposed to make your dog unable to walk. When we got the the ER they told us within 20 min that she was in end stage sepsis. That the vet failed to help her and she was too far gone. Her C-section incision was open and the doctor at rockingham er told us right away that she could smell the infection. They also told us that her belly was swollen due to septic fluid. We had to put her to sleep tonight. We lost a family member and our baby because Canobie neglected to even look at our dog during her stay today. On top of all of this...when we called to tell Canobie what was happening...we asked to talk to the doctor and was told that she was "gone for the night". We asked for someone to please call us so we could get some answers and NOBODY called us. Complete negligence and malpractice. Zero compassion. Our hearts are shattered. Please please please do not bring your animal here for any type of emergency! Please! No family should ever have to go through this pain. read more

I brought my dog in because he developed a skin rash. I also wanted his nails cut. I walked out of there $325 poorer. I had 28, four dollar apiece pills, which were nothing more than antihistamines. I'm sure they were probably dog size dosages but I got home and looked them up on Walmart pet meds and they were well under two dollars apiece, not the four dollars I was charged. They also did a terrible job clipping his nails. They barely took anything more than just a very tips off. I know all about the bloodline and they weren't even close to it. While I was there I also had him give him a rabies shot as his was about to expire. They claimed that because they I didn't have his former rabies certificate with me that they would only do a one year rabies shot. I'm assuming it's just to get me in for another visit and ding my credit card again. And to top it all off they wanted my credit card number when I was on the phone making the appointment and they charged my credit card $80 right then and there even though the appointment I was paying for wasn't for 3 1/2 weeks. I do believe that is 100% illegal. They can keep my credit card on file in case I don't show up but not the bill me immediately. These people are nothing more than thieves praying on people's love for their pets. Hell, my personal doctor doesn't charge me that much for a visit. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

We've had a negative experience with this veterinary hospital more than once. Both of our parakeets have gone in with infections at different times and despite my extreme anxiety to handle the birds to administer medications to them (because they're not used to being handled), the anxiety we had and the stress on the birds wasn't considered with their treatment and we were still told the only way to give them meds was through syringe. We were never given the option to give them antibiotics through their water, which I didn't know was possible at the time. We were given no other choice but to catch the birds once a day for 14 days straight for medication. There was very little compassion or assistance offered from Canobie Lake Veterinary, especially after the first time, which was during covid. We weren't even allowed into the building to watch them administer the medication, so we felt very unprepared. I ended up hiring someone to come into my home for 2 weeks to help me give the medication and this ended up costing so much extra money. All of the stress could have easily been avoided. Most recently, I was convinced our older parakeet was dying, as he was at the bottom of the cage with his eyes closed. I had heard him fall from the cage but not climb up as normal, so I checked on him. I called the vet immediately because knowing he is an older bird, I wanted to do whatever I could to ensure he was as comfortable as possible. I covered his cage, put on soft music and did what I could. Without knowing much about the situation, the person who answered at CLV said I needed to bring him in right away. I told her that I just didn't want him to suffer. She insisted more than 3 times in that conversation that the bird was indeed suffering and that I needed to get him there as soon as possible. It was my children's last day of school and we canceled our plans to bring him, only to find out that not only was he not suffering, but he wasn't dying. We should have been offered the chance to speak with a technician who maybe could have better assessed the situation, before the desk person just assumed the bird was dying (I'm not a veterinarian)! Not only would I have saved hundreds of dollars, but it would have been a lot less stressful on the bird and on us. He ended up being totally fine and likely passed out after he fell from the perch. It was so sad that happened to him, but he was a while later and is fine months later. Other things happened as well that rubbed us the wrong way between these few visits, but it's not worth making a laundry list of everything that went wrong. I really feel this practice is only about money. I am taking the birds elsewhere for all future visits and unfortunately cannot recommend them. read more

I had been going to Canobie for over 10 years. Dogs,cats and exotics. The prices have always been high but they treat the animals well and know what they are doing. Recently our 10 yr old rabbit developed a marble size growth on its thigh. They ran some blood to check for cancer. It came back inconclusive. They recommended the mass be removed. When they quoted me a price of over $800 I literally came unglued. I knew I was being screwed. When I voiced my outrage I was told they have allot of overhead and the rabbit is considered an exotic!!!! Exotic? are you shittin me, its a rabbit. 4H clubs around the country have been raising them for over 100 years. Well, I went to another vet. Didnt mention my experience at Canobie. New vet told me the rabbit appears healthy and at 10 years old is reaching its end. Didnt think it necessary to spend money on a blood test for cancer. Gave the rabbit a local numbing medication, clamped the mass, snipped it off and threw a few stitches on it. It cost me $275!!!!! Bring all my animals to the new vet. Very happy with vet care for my rabbit. Went in recently with my very sick rabbit who needed urgent care. Have had her back for several follow ups to ensure she is progressing and getting better, and I found each of the vets who have helped her to be very knowledgeable and compassionate in treating her. Had been there in prior years as well with what I thought was just an ear infection in my brand new bun,and the vet was knowledgeable and savvy enough to suspect it was another ailment altogether -- and she efficiently took blood work and determined it was e-cunniculi - an awful disease that can kill a rabbit if not stopped. She's a sweet little bun so I am happy to have been able to lean on Dr. Magnuson and the other doctors at Canobie Lake Vet in getting her healthy. read more

Brought my 33 yr old African Grey to them for boarding just for day. They agreed but said I need to bring my own cage with her for her to stay in while they looked after her and protected her. I gathered up a cage. a water bowl, my parrots favorite foods. When I arrived at Canobie veterinary Hospital the staff refused to let me help. I asked if I could move her to the lg cage from the tiny carrier because I handle this parrot the best. This staff member said we know how to do that you cannot come in. I agreed but thought they were hiding something. They quickly asked me for a ridiculous amount of money to watch her for a day . I decided to pick my Parrot up early because I was worried as about her. I was right! This office left her in a tiny carrier for 3+ hrs no food no drink! I saw her standing in a huge pile of bird poop I question the staff and they lied right to my face saying they put her in the lg cage. The water bowl was completely dry! The food never touched! The cage still not set up for the bird no bottom put on it. I let the office manager know she immediately refunded my money after I asked 3x. The owner of this hospital Dr. Magnuson has not even offered an oppology. Think twice my friends before leaving your loving pet with them because you can't see the way they are treated or mistreated read more

A few months ago, my family had to put our dog to sleep. Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital made our dog's final moments comfortable. Our dog was a crazy beagle who loved spending time following us around the house trying to steal our food. He loved going for rides and walks, but he was terrified of the vet. Walking in the door to the vet's office meant a sprint out the door to go potty. Sadly, we knew that our dog was sick and the inevitable would come so my family did some research to find a veterinarian who performs euthanasia at home. My dad found Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital, and we decided this way would be best for the dog. On the day of the procedure, we called the vet's office early in the morning because the dog was not doing well, he wasn't trying to steal our food and he stopped eating, so we knew it was time. We scheduled an appointment for the afternoon when they were able to come to our house. Dr. Magnuson arrived at our home with her vet tech. They explained the procedure to us and answered any questions that we had. With my families consent, they preformed the procedure. They did their best to comfort us while we cried our eyes out. Even though putting a dog down is a hard decision and this was one of the saddest moments of my life, I have nothing but good things to say about this office for making our dog's final moments free of stress and anxiety. I recommended this office to my friend who also had a dog with cancer. Sadly, they also had to put their dog down. They were unable to get a house call due to the timing, but they spoke very highly of the Veterinarian and staff. read more

I brought my 9 year old rabbit to the vet for the first time for an eye condition. She had always been healthy but had some buildup on her eyes. I spent $400 on treatment and medicine, and my poor bunny died before she could even finish the 2 weeks of medicine they gave her. Our family bunny was recently ill with gastric paresis which can be life threatening. We took him to a local Veterinary ER and they couldn't say enough about Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital. I now know why. Stanley is now well because we followed their excellent instructions. My family member received similar care at world renowned Mass Eye and Ear and Brigham and Women's Hospital. They have called and sent emails inquiring about Stanley's clinical status. We met Dr. Dressel at another animal hospital. She took great care of our elderly dog at that hospital, once she moved on, the care wasn't the same. I searched and found her at Canobie Vet. We had to put our dog down and I didn't want anyone else to do it. She has such a compassionate way about her. We had the kids with us for most of the visit (they knew it was coming) everyone in the office went over and above to make sure out whole family was ok. They even provided the kids with clay paw prints of our dog. It was such a tough day and they made it bearable, and ensured that our last moments with him were on our terms. This is not a 'science based' veterinary clinic. They use quackery, so called 'alternative veterinary medicine. For details on that kind of stuff read skeptvet.com and quackwatch.com The first time I came here they (Dr Barrett) already tried to sell me their 'holistic', so unscientific health care method, with acupuncture and other 'Eastern hocus pocus' and they tried to change my kittie's food, suggesting that all he eats is junk, even 'Science Diet' products! When I told them I do not believe in that hocus pocus of holistic veterinary 'medicine (what a package deal, to try to call it medicine) and wanted only 'science' from them, they backed of, looking like scared deer in the lights. I was astonished when, without asking me if I am fine with that, they took my kitty away to a place I could not see them nor my kitty, to give him a shot. I am used to the vet doing such things in my presence, so I can verify. It feels almost like they have something to hide. When I barged into their only 'surgery' room, that turned out to be a cramped, old kitchen, with cages in the same area for the patients, which they use for 'recovery'. That is entirely inappropriate and conducive to infections and transmission of diseases from other pets, which many indoor pets are not vaccinated for. It should be a separate space. . The 'surgery' room (at the beginning of the day) was also littered with stacks of items and papers on the surgery tables, so they did not keep this area 'clean', like a real vet would and that is again high risk for a pet's health. When my pet got his dental treatment, including extractions, they failed to do a blood test ahead of the dental work, which is a must with such procedure to assure that the immune system is up to bacterema, which always happens with this procedure. No true vet leaves out a blood test. Neither did they give the antibiotics 1 hour pre-procedure, as is prescribed for animals which have a known (they knew) history of dental problems and are therefore at a higher risk of bacterial infection. They gave it during the procedure instead, which is too late. And then my friend got infected and incurred a high temperature unnecessarily. Next incompetence was that they called me early and were prepared to release my pet early WITH his high 105+ temperature, so with high fever. No serious vet releases pets with high fever until that has come down. I told them to keep him there and monitor it till it is down. Even then in the end they released him with some elevated fever (13.8), but I decided to accept it as I believe that it may kill him to stay there any longer. Oh, and they tried to tell me the fable that fever was r elated to stress and even suggested (probably to cover themselves) that they believed he already had fever before getting to them. Totally humbug of course and they did not diagnose that pre-op nor at a preceding visit a week earlier. Their bills are sky high too, but I would not have minded if they knew their trade. Avoid bringing your kitty here unless you are into the hocus pocus new-ageism and are prepared to have problems or even a loss of your pet. read more

I am blown away this place only had 9 reviews before me! This is my regular vet and I absolutely adore everyone that works here. The care they take with every animal goes beyond what I have ever experienced in a vet! My dog actually loves coming here, and I feel like they really REALLY care about my furry child. We can count on them to get us RIGHT in if we need our pet to be seen asap. They also have a rewards program which has allowed me to save a lot of money on my vet bills. What can I say about a Vet MD and a Vet tech who came out to my house to euthanize the dog I love? A dog they had never seen before. My prior vet (big practice) didn't offer home euthanasia and my dog really didn't like the vet office so it seemed cruel to make his last moments on earth stressed out at the vets. Dr. Magnuson and her tech (please forgive me, I can't recall her name) were VERY compassionate! Expensive? Yes. But sometimes you gotta pay for the things you want. They are very high in price, but they are so concered with your pet's health that it's well worth the money. Almost all of the things they recommend are hollistic and they offer different options of care when your dog is sick. When my dog was a puppy, he got very sick and after an unsuccessful visit to another vet, I was recommeded to them. The vets there were so wonderful and careful with my little pup! They gave me some hollistic remedies, as well as medications. They even called me the next day to check up on him! It was really reassuring to know that they cared about Tonka. I would have stayed with them, had I not moved to Manchester, because they are great. They are also really easy to find, located right off Exit 3. read more

My 1.5 year old puppy was playing with his gentle giant friend who is twice his size and got stepped on. Unfortunately, this broke one of his back toe nails. I called Canobie Lake Vet at 12:33 when they closed at 1pm asking if there was a chance they could fit him and check him out as he was bleeding and in a good amount of pain. They saw him within less than 10 minutes, stayed late to take care of him and make sure he's ok, and were so kind and pleasant the whole time. I was understandably upset, and they were very comforting and supportive. They explained exactly what they were going to do, broke it all down to show me cost, and took absolutely amazing care of my fur baby! I was pleasantly surprised with the low cost of the visit given everything they needed to do (light sedation, IV pain meds, take home pain meds and antibiotics, bandaging, cone, nail removal, nail trim, etc). I went in to this vet with my very sick and lethargic rabbit I knew going into this vet I would probably have to but him down because he was very sick. After the vet took X-rays and diagnosed my rabbit with pneumonia she said that he was going to be fine and rabbits get this all the time. And that he was just tired and had a belly ache from the air in his tummy because he could not breathe. But he was so sick she should have know he wasn't going to make it. She then prescribed multiple medications for me to take home and give to him for the next few days. That costed me almost $600 We then got home and after I gave him his medicine and I put him down to rest in his cage. And about an hour later I got up to check on him and he was dead. I should not have had to hold my dead pet after just leaving a vet that said he would be okay I am traumatized and my poor bunny should not have had to suffer. I am writing this review so people know and can ask the question about putting your pet down so they don't have to suffer and you can hold them while they take there last breathe , because this hospital did not give me that option and they should have been realistic with me. read more

Over the years our last four Black Labs have been cared for by Dr. Magnuson. We've been going to Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital since it opened in 2005. For everything from vaccinations to annual checkups, spay/neuter to clipping nails, ear infections and you-name-it, these professionals have always been caring, thoughtful, and efficient. We travel quite a distance to take our pets here. What got us started here, you ask? I like that these professionals really get to know you and your pets. I like that my dog and I are whisked away from the front office to a private room where the doctor and staff will actually get on the floor with our big dogs to check them out. I like the comfortable pace of this team and that our dogs are given time to acclimate to their new surroundings so that my dog gets used to the surroundings first and is, therefore, more at ease when the doctor or technician joins us. I like that if an uncomfortable treatment is warranted, e.g., canine anal sac expression, that the treatment is carried out in a separate treatment area away from the room I am sitting in, so that my dog does not directly associate me with an uncomfortable experience and is happily reunited with me in our private room when the treatment is concluded. Why do we keep coming back? When you think about it, these things mentioned above are smart! These professionals are thinking about you and your pet all the time. I also like that these professionals are willing to think out-of-the-box. Years ago, through Dr. Magnuson, we were introduced to therapeutic laser therapy to manage arthritis pain in our 12-year-old dog. Our geriatric dog responded beautifully to non-invasive, pain-free laser therapy and it made a wonderful difference in our dog's last year with us. To me, it feels like these guys go above and beyond to take care of our four-legged family members. That's why we give them our highest recommendation. That's why we keep coming back. read more

My family loves Canobie, we have been going there for about eight years with our precious dog who suffers seizures from an inoperable shunt. The staff does a wonderful job providing him with the care he needs during his visits, monitoring his medication, and has provided us with good resources for additional testing and care when it was needed. They are always pleasant, the office is a comfortable environment, and visits there are welcomed. read more

After several poor experiences at a local vet, we made the switch over to Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital. I was skeptical at first, since my view on vet care was jaded, but I trusted the clean environment and caring staff. When the Dr. told me I needed to have my cats teeth cleaned and a few extracted I was nervous. When the Dr. called me, after the procedure, to tell me my cat did wonderful and they were able to save her three teeth from extraction, I was shocked! They truly care about your pets best interest and are not looking to just make a profit. I highly recommend this business to everyone in the area. I love my cat and feel I am giving her the best possible care by taking her to Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital. read more
