After overnight stays and several thousand dollars later he was in survivable shape and emerged with a lifetime prescription for veterinary formula food (both wet and dry). The prescription for this food was explicitly written to indicate that he would need this prescription food for the rest of his life and it was written to cover 50+ refills of any size wet or dry. The script did not include any expiration date. This would likely be enough food to last the entire balance of his life. After a few years, though, this facility decided that they would no longer authorize prescription refills of the food when contacted by food retailers (Petsmart, Chewy, etc.). Even though the prescription explicitly said he would need to receive ONLY this food for the rest of his life, and even though we were nowhere near the number of refills provided for in the script provided to us post-surgery, this facility decided that we could no longer purchase the prescription food (by denying script refill authorization). Several conversations ensued after retailers notified us that this place was refusing to authorize refills. The bottom line is that this facility decided to hold the prescription food hostage until and unless we brought our cat, who was/is perfectly healthy otherwise since the blockage surgery, in for a checkup appointment. This cat either throws up, poops himself, or both virtually every time he is transported anywhere by car and gets stressed to the hilt when he is forced into a carrier and then taken somewhere in a car. As his owners and family it is our belief that the stress it would cause him to be taken in for an appointment, in light of his clearly good current health, would outweigh the benefits of scheduling a vet visit at present. This facility does not respect that decision, though, and despite originally providing a script that explicitly said he would need to be fed this food for the rest of his life and which prescription had no expiration date and which has not even been refilled 1/3 the number of times it was written to provide for refills, and which prescription food he has now been fed successfully for several years post-surgery, has determined that they will now hold the prescription hostage until he is brought in for a visit. We are currently working to gradually transition him off of the prescription food (albeit certainly a bit nervous) due to this unprincipled action, and if he indeed needs a trip back to the vet at some point you can bet your bottom dollar that it will not scheduled at this place. Be careful, as even if they may fix up your loved pet in an emergency situation, you may yet in the future find your prescription(s) being held hostage to future appointments. ------------------ Edit 8/4/2025 in response to Animal Medical Center of New England's 8/4/2025 reply to the above review: Response to my review "This should never be the impression we leave..." inaccurately implies there was some ambiguity in terms of the multiple conversations that ensued between myself and the facility. However in reality there was/is no ambiguity as to the circumstances involved. On multiple occasions the staff there have left no doubt about what transpired. Despite vet diet food script being written, post-surgery, with no expiration date and providing for enough refills to last for a decade plus, and despite writing on same prescription that our cat should receive *only* this food for the rest of his life and also reiterating the same verbally (that he should be fed *only* this food for life), you refuse(d) to authorize continued refills in accordance with the written script. The impression left is wholly consistent with both the reality and with the office ultimatum given; bring him back in or we will not authorize further food refills. "it's important to us that your cat remains healthy and comfortable..." rings darn hollow.

Dr. Provencher is warm, friendly, and professional and I trust her completely with my cat's care. I like that the services are affordable, and I'm told ahead of time what each service will cost. I've NEVER felt pressured into doing any services I don't agree with, or charged more than what was told. They even have a new rewards program. The staff have all been nice to me and my cat, especially Candice. She patiently explains what to expect and answers my numerous questions. I even get a call the day after my visit asking how my cat is doing and if I have any other questions. The facility is clean, comfortable and odor free. They have an assortment of pet toys and supplies and good quality grain free pet food, which is priced about the same as the local pet store. There is ample parking. The only change I would make is installing an automatic door in the front and a ramp, as it is a bit tricky to navigate in and out with a pet carrier. Overall I am very pleased with this place. It is affordable, friendly, and professional.

We have a house full of kids and this cat is handled often the tech saying desensitize him to touch was way off as he is active young cat ( under year) in house with 6 kids. Hes gets plenty of touch. Do not let them examin your bet without precautions. Injured cats in pain who have best temperament might snap back in self defense. Having you sick cat taken by animal control when all you wanted to do was get him care is not ok. Also the called me the next day to see how my cat was doing. I wouldn't know you took him from me. To which they never put a note in thier system about it which added insult to an already bad situation.

Our dog was experiencing a lot of intestinal issues along with yeast over growth on his skin which was always red sticky and stinky. After trying everything our other vet suggested for 3years and changing his food so many times along with so much wasted money for no outcome I finally decided that I would take matters into my own hands and cook his food to remove any possible ingredients that could be causing all his issues. Not many vets align with this natural approach so I started to get nervous that what if I was causing him more harm than good. Some how we came accross Dr Barret while doing a Google search and brought our doggie to see her. She does a very extensive first appointment consultation and then sends you a very detailed over view and action plan. She gave me the reassurance that I needed that cooking his food was the right choice and that we we're heading down the right path to heal our boy! She educated us on gut health and suggested natural supplements to incorporate, additional recipe options, and wholistic remedies to help heal our boy from the inside out. The few several appointments can be pricy as it's important to get some testing done to get a true picture of what's going on along with the additional supplements but once your dog is on the road to a healthy life your vet appointments become so minimal so for us it was worth every single penny. I can't thank Dr Barret for being a part of getting our boy so healthy. Within a year of consistent natural diet and supplements all his intestinal issues went away his skin and fur is absolutely beautiful no redness no smell no shedding so beautiful and shiny! We are now super educated and aware of what our dog eats to keep him on this path forever. Education is key and Dr Barret provided us with so much great information that we are always sharing with our other fur parent friends.

She brought her elderly cat there to be euthanized. They wouldn't euthanize this elderly cat with failing health, but rather sent her home with her cat with pain meds and eye drops (for when he can't blink). As a previous hospice nurse she was only asking for a dignified death for her elderly cat. One month later as the cat's health was increasingly failing she worked her courage up to go back to have him euthanized. She had to wait for 40 mins while her cat got upset and anxious from the dogs barking. When she asked for someone to help her they said they had to now do more interventions prior to the actual "euthanization" because the cat was anxious. This was a heartbreaking experience and made more tramatic & heartbreaking by this horrible vet practice.
