I was a bit stressed thinking about my Halloween costume and where to get fabric now that Joann was closed. I've headed to DTLA in the past for fabric, but I wasn't looking forward to that for just 1 yard of black cotton. So I grabbed a GF and headed to Canoga Fabrics in Canoga Park. While I was at first a bit surprised at the small space, I quickly realized there was A LOT to offer. HELLO Joseph! I asked for black cotton and he showed me a sampling to check out while he finished with other customers. I found THE PERFECT SHADE OF BLACK! I just needed 1 yard, so Joseph got that cut quick as a whip, I paid cash, and out I went. $8 for a yard of 60" black cotton is VERY FAIR. Sorry I forgot to snap pics, I think I was delirious with delight at being able to tick this errand off my list! I now have a new fabric option for the rare times - yeah, like once a year - I have a project to complete. While there is a Public Parking lot behind Canoga Fabric, I parked at a meter on the street and fed in enough for 2 hours so we could check out a few other places I was surprised about along this corridor of Sherman Way. The fabric selections are pretty good. They help you find exactly what you're looking for and the service is quick! I went in for elastic and some fabric, left in under 5 mins. The quality of the fabric is nice and the guy helping me went out of his way to recommend a different thread to more closely match the fabric I was buying (I just grabbed the closest almost-color I could find). I would definitely recommend going in with a plan as there isn't much room to wander, but very nice establishment! read more

I needed to reupholster my chairs, and I came here to pick up materials. The owner was very helpful and helped me pick out fabric, a dust cover, and foam padding for the chairs. I've been here twice and although the owner and his assistant were nice enough, be prepared to say NO to anything he wants to add on if you don't want it. I was looking at some of the fabric remnants, and I put one back. The owner said 'it's only $2.50'. When I told him I didn't want it, he put it in the pile of fabrics that I was going to purchase anyway, I didn't realize it until I left the store. The second time I came here and bought fabric, the assistant miss-quoted the price. The owner came out, they had a hushed conversation and then the owner told me he was going to give me two more yards, free of charge. I asked him how much the fabric REALLY was, and he pretended not to hear me, even though I asked twice. Both times I went here I felt screwed. The fabrics are good, the service is not. The selection is not bad for such a small place. I would probably come back here again if I am in the area, only because I know what to expect and the prices are so cheap. The store has been there for ages so I doubt it'll be going anywhere soon, bad review or not. read more

This place was a good find! Came here while looking for a fabric shop alternative to Joann's here in Northridge and came here to find a nice, cozy store! First off, the store guy, Joseph (Josef?) is super personable and sweet. He gave me advice with the fabric when I told him about my project. And he was helpful without being pushy or pompous. The selection wasn't eye-popping or anything, but it had a bit of everything. Definitely hit this place up if you know what you want already or if you have a project in mind. Joseph did mention that he'll ship stuff in if it's requested. The store is clean, albeit small, but there's a lot to look at. Fabric is organized by type, and there's a section for accent pieces (laces and tassels.) You won't have to dig through fabric. I liked that the fabric was left draped out. It's not like at some stores, where all the fabrics are so tightly packed into shelves that you pull it out to feel and see it and you have a REALLY hard time trying to put it back. Note that you might have to buy stuff by the whole yard (meaning no fractions of the yard.) I've spent too much money at Joann's for fabric or drove too far to get to DTLA's fashion district. And supposedly, this place has been around for 15 years. Dang! I'm super stoked to have found an alternative spot for cheaper fabric closer to home! Definitely will return. read more

Canoga Fabrics is a wonderful little gem in the heart of Canoga Park. As a smaller business, the selection is not quite as extensive as the big name stores, but there is still a wide array of great fabrics to choose from, The owner is always friendly and eager to help, and the prices can't be beat! This was my first time coming into this establishment after driving by it several times over the years. They close at 7pm. I called at 6:50pm yes and literally was a block away and mentioned the black fabric I was looking for, just to give him a heads up. I was in the store by 6:53 and said I understand he's about to close and apologized. The dude wasn't helpful even though explained this is my first time in a fabric store and acknowledged he's the expert. Mind you, I was out of the store by 7:02pm. In those few minutes being there he yelled at me and was totally rude. I mean he was working really hard to earn that one star review. I chalked it up as language/cultural difference or miscommunication but when I got on yelp, I saw that he responds and is interactive so language/cultural difference is no excuse. Don't be rude to your customer. I'm never coming back to this spot even though they have interesting fabrics and great prices they are not the only option. read more
