Soft, worsted weight cotton yarn in University of Michigan colors for a gift
    Jennifer A.

Great yarn shop with lovely yarn and great service. Products: hand-dyed yarns mostly in wool, but also cotton. A good assortment of needles and other supplies (stitch markers, etc.). Space: the main room has most of the yarn, while the second room has some additional products along with a large table and chairs, where you are welcome to sit and knit. There is also complementary coffee and filtered water. The etiquette page on their website reminds you to patronize the shop, not waste the complementary refreshments, recycle in the appropriate bin, and to take cell phone conversations outside - all this makes for a courteous atmosphere. Customer Service: I had purchased two skeins of their beautifully hand-dyed cotton yarn, and subsequently got confused while following a double-knit hat pattern. Mary helped me get back on track. Parking: it was easy to find street parking both times I have gone. Hours: Tue: 11am-7pm Wed: 11am-9pm Thurs: 11am-4pm (free drop-in clinic 12-2) Fri: 11am-7pm Sat: 11am-6pm Sun: 12pm-6pm

There is no fiber store in LA like this one! Whether you love to knit, crochet, felt, spin or need a gift for someone with a passion for fiber you MUST visit the Altered Stitch in Valley Village. This little oasis is a very unique and cozy yarn shop with an amazing staff. They have a large selection of beautifully HANDDYED yarn, ROVING and so much MORE! TECH THURSDAYS is a FREE service (on Thursdays) from 12pm-2pm for those stuck on a project or have MINOR questions regarding a pattern. Private lessons are available for those who need more instruction. Since most of the yarn is hand made/hand dyed, it is sold in hanks which they will wind (into a ball) upon request. Classes for knitting, crocheting, felting, spinning, weaving and so much more are available at the store but spaces are limited so check website for any questions. Follow them on Instagram for updates on special events which usually have free demos and GIVEAWAYS! FREE PARKING for all customers in the parking lot behind the business. Hours: Sun: 12pm-6pm Mon: CLOSED Tue: 11am-6pm Wed: 11am-9pm Th: 11am-3pm Fri: 11am-6pm Sat: 12am-6pm Thanks & enjoy! :)

    Lots and lots of yarn!

Great place to get hand-dyed yarns and also take classes! The ladies at The Altered Stitch are super friendly and always willing to answer any questions. They also offer times when you can drop by to knit with a group (provided you use the yarns purchased from their store), as well as MANY MANY different types of classes, including privates! It is definitely a great one-stop-shop for all your knitting needs.

I have to give a star back to the Stitch. They put on a fantastic event this weekend. Their first ever "Yarn Tasting" event, "Lettuce Knit". This was a wonderful idea, and I admit, I was eager to come, but not quite sure of the logistics of such an event. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they thought of everything. As I walked in the back door, a feast of yarn met my eyes. The entire counter plus an extra table was full of little yarn samples in paper candy cups. Delectable! My fingers started to tingle before I even found my spot at the table. When the owner greeted me, she let me know to find my place, with a labeled goody bag and bring my plate back over and she would help me get all my samples. My plate overflowed! So what did Marcy do? She carried the remaining samples over to my table for me! Now that's service! Woot! And where was I seated? Right next to refreshment table. Yummy strawberries, finger sandwiches, mini cupcakes and....champagne. Yes, that's right! Champagne. So, for the next hour and a half, my companions and I poured over our delightful array of samples, both food and fiber, while chatting and making new friends. And when it was time to pack up, and I peeked in my goody bag, there were coupons for 15 and 20% off any of the yarns sampled in this tasting! And several samples of fantastic Classic Elite yarns as well. What a lovely surprise! With such a relaxed and fun atmosphere, the good 'ol Stitch has definitely earned a star back from me. I can't wait until the next event! Thanks to all who thought this up, I had a blast!

I just cant stay away! Love it here! the walls are stuffed with the most beautiful indie dyed yarns.

But the shop has completely not kept up with the times. Not having your inventory priced with tags is a no-go, full stop. "It's too hard" or "we have too much stuff" are not acceptable explanations when it creates a really awkward situation for everyone involved: the owner, who has to look up prices individually, and the customer, who may be caught out at the register when something is out of budget. Their tenure is evident by the sheer volume of things they have, and to their credit, their stock is extremely varied and large. Quite easy to lose two hours here. But I found the service hot and cold: they'd sometimes follow me around, but respond coldly when I asked questions. The pricing structure and service just made this a really unpleasant experience that was not at all offset by their large stock. I will skip this when I'm in the area and won't be recommending to friends.

No school now days will teach you how to draw and paint like Rembrant, Bougerou, Ingres, In fact many art schools now days do not teach you the most important concept of drawing and that is that in art learning is life long it does not end with a degree. LAFFA emphasizes that. Furthermore many art schools focus simply on art being just paint splattered on a canvas or some weird as hell sculpture that sells for millions and where the "artist" i.e. like KOONs and Andy Warhol do not even do any work at all. LAFFA is very much like how people back in the ECOLE Beux arts were taught, or how those in the high renaissance were taught, in the atelier style, by the end of one class you will have learned how to truly draw which is the basis of all art! The accreditation, accreditation is a good thing, however it will not mean you will magically teach you how to draw and paint, much like some assume a degree means. no a true artist has YEARS of practice and does not stop because a true artist knows that to be able to truly know that they are good at something, they must remember they always know nothing like the renowned cellist Pablo Casalas once said when he was asked at 93 why he still practiced the cello 3hours a day" i think i am finally improving" that is what you will see here TRUE MASTERS of the lost art of drawing and painting, modern day Bougerou's, Rembrants, Franz Hals, Titian, Ingress etc. Who embody the true spirit of the lost arts which many so called art schools sans Cal Arts and 3 kicks do not teach today. One teacher i highly recommend taking is Rey Bustos, he is harsh, he is firm but his passion will drive you. He is truly an amazing instructor.
