Support your local library! This is a fantastic library. They have books, and lots of them in various languages. They have lots of other media, such as magazines and DVDs. Can't find what you're looking for here? Good news! They have interlibrary loans that come pretty quickly. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful. One downside is that this is a pretty small library, but since you are able to request loans from other libraries, it's not so bad. If you're on the tech side of life, get the Libby app and connect it to your library card. You can borrow e-Books and audiobooks straight to your device, as well as some magazines. It's also a great way to monitor your library account. One other downside people may consider, is the unhoused population around the library. I go here often and have never been bothered by the people there. They are usually minding their own business and hanging out side. Cute and cozy little library. read more

Of all the libraries in the West Valley, this is the best Branch. I have been to CSUN location, West Valley Library, Encino/Tarzana, Woodland Hills, and the Main Library in the Valley. Canoga Park Branch Library has the friendliest most helpful staff and are welcoming to all. I feel safe here and at the other libraries - especially Encino/Tarzana and West Valley Library - people there, especially the librarians, seem to hate their jobs and should think of retiring. I think they are just counting the minutes. Canoga Park Branch library is friendly to those who are handicapped, seniors, and minorities. The Encino/Tarzana branch librarian only seems to like "her people" and her shrill voice can be heard from this prima donna. Other people, she is very arrogant and nasty. I and others have complained about her. What a relief that Canoga Park Library is wonderful and they should receive a commendation for extraordinary customer service. Saw a homeless dude watching something that rhymes with corn for about an hour. I tried to ignore him as the security and front staff did but honestly it was pretty disturbing. There are children that study there. It's disgusting that nothing was done by anyone. I understand that the computers have a polarizer that doesn't allow people to view what a person is seeing from a certain angle but that was not my case. I mean I got the assumption that staff can't really do anything about what someone does on a computer but that has to atleast be illegal right? The homeless just ruin it here for people wanting to find a quiet place to study. Last time I was here too, a homeless man got in a whole argument because the librarian told him he wasn't aloud to sing in the library.He then made a scene and threatened to bring his homies to shoot the place. I understand that these two times could've been just an instance of bad apples but I have only been here two whole times. Thats means 100% of my visits thus far have been ruined by the homeless population acting up. Still, the staff was chill I guess. Will something be done about the dude watching corn? Probably not. Don't bring your kids here. If you want a safer, cleaner library go to a public college library. read more

I am thankful that the public library system still exists. This library is walking distance for me which is great. It also serves a large community in Canoga Park. The library is organized and has plenty of seating all around. I love that it is opened on Saturdays as it serves me as a place of research as well as a study place. Did you know they have free wi-fi? Isn't that awesome!!!!! The children's reading section is nice, comfortable, accommodating and pretty stocked up with the classics. You can also check out Dvd's. ALL the reviews saying how mean and rude the employees are are 10000% true. Not sorry that Covid shut down this branch for awhile and I hope all of those those employees never come back. There is older woman there who wears her hair in locks and she needs to go. Rude and not helpful at all. But then again I am asking for a librarian to have a personality and be helpful. Maybe they are too smart to be helpful and kind to others. NOT Oh and the homeless encampment on the side is frightening! Why does the city allow this? Went to this library for the first time yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very nice and helpful. I've noticed most people who work at libraries are cranky, uptight people. It was clean inside and they had recent addition for books. Decent amount of parking so I was in and out. Would have been 5 stars if shelves were labeled better. With the homeless, I pretty much assume libraries are where they hang out. There was a shopping cart right next to the entrance of the library with a number of stuff in it and around the concrete of it. I didn't observe any homeless looking people inside, but there were types there who did look like they were a step above being homeless. read more

This library isn't amazing or even super quiet, but since its close to where I live, I come here to study. The parking lot kind of sucks; the spots are too small and if there are other cars coming in or out, be careful because I can easily see an accident taking place here. The library's book selection is quite small and it always seems to have people on computers, but there are a few places to sit, so if you like having background noise while you do your business, Canoga Park Library will probably do the trick. read more

I don't frequent this branch much (come to think of it, I haven't set foot in a LA Public Library for the longest time). I typically frequent the Woodland Hills or Platt Branches, but this one was on my way home and I needed to finish up some work. I got there around 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. There is parking on the backside but it's rather minimal. I walked in and was hit by some unusual funky smell. I don't know if it was coming off a person or if the place just has that odor, couldn't pinpoint. Anyhow, my nose adjusted and I was able to find a table with an outlet on the floor underneath so I could plug in my devices. LAPL offers free wi-fi which is lovely, but the connectivity is not the best, but it's free and for that, I add an extra star. Around 3:30pm, the school kids start coming in and it gets a bit louder. I only noticed young, elementary school aged children, and not the rowdy middle/high schoolers that tend to flock to public libraries and create a general nuisance. I left by 3:40pm and did not see any misfits, not sure if they show up later. The restrooms were not bad and unlocked (I know many libraries where you need to ask for a key at the front desk to use the facilities). It had two stalls and soap and paper were stocked. This branch was okay, I wish they had more quiet nooks for anti-social studying (that's my style) but this was fine. I'm just thankful we still have public libraries, it's a blessing they're still open, with all the budget issues and the reduced hours of operation. read more

First time coming to this LA library branch tonight, mainly because I don't live in the valley. Interior is awesome compared to the dumpy local branch we have here, and the experience was much more reminiscent of what a library trip should be like- calm, quiet w/ no notable distractions. I will definitely make the trip down here just for the sake of avoiding the horrific excuse for a library that is the Sunset branch. Not too shabby :) read more

First, a review of the library itself. The staff is extra courteous. They have many activities that serve the general community, including monthly family movies, as well as daily study periods for local students. For a small suburban library, they have an excellent book selection and regular additions of new books. As for those few homeless who do use the library, yes many use the facility to charge phones, and use the internet. But it is a safe place, patrolled often. If you want to close this library, you may consider closing all libraries in the city. Maybe you might consider actual solutions to the problem instead of knee-jerk talk-show band-aids. One last thing, concerning "Chris W.'s" happiness about the RV no longer there. (A) they actually found a home but (B) I happen to know them as well as a community representative that has been helping them, and I can swear on many Bibles that the couple that lived in that RV is probably more anti-drug than our current Attorney General. If you are so concerned about drug sales, you might want to turn your attention to the medical marijuana dispensary a block and a right turn from the library. read more

Its a really GREAT LOCATION for housing the chronically homeless. It should be closed down and turned into a homeless shelter due it being WELL OVER STAFFED, dated books and lack of community participation. (Thanks to the smart phones) It appears that 85% of its patrons use the facility to sleep, rest or charge their phones. Not really READING BOOKS. Computers are always available and there are never long lines of patrons checking out books. read more

I went here for the first time today. It was so clean, organized and stocked. My oldest son easily found the Harry Potter book he wanted and I rented 15 books for my younger child. The two librarians were super helpful and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience after reading these negative reviews below. This place has vastly improved based on what others shared. I really hope they stay open so our community can keep having a safe place to rest, read and recharge. read more

I hate how around 2:50 ish it gets louder because the kids come in. I don't mind kids but some of their parents need to teach them when to lower their voices. It becomes slightly difficult to concentrate. Not only that but the kids also make alot of unnecessary noises such as attempting to beatbox, farting noises, etc. Alot of kids weren't wearing masks. The area is full of homeless people which isn't too bad but just be aware of that. Overall, it's not the worst library there is but there is a lot of room for improvements. read more

Books, Books & and more books! Free WI-Fi connection! This place is great if your on a budget to buy the book. It's a great place to get some studying in. It's open on Saturdays and close about 5:30pm. It's super quiet and you can return your book you checked out at any LA public library. The parking in the rear is really small. Your better off parking on Sherman Way. There is always parking on Sherman Way. If you haven't been to the library in a while, you probably need to renew your library card. Every 2 years it needs to be updated in their system. PS: The restrooms are not clean, don't recommend using it. read more

There nothing to special about this specific library. If you come at a good time ull find parking pretty easy but so far every time I have some the parking lot in the back is usually pretty full. The parking spots are pretty small. It's been awhile since I've had a library card and it was pretty simple when I went in to get one. The lady at the front was very nice and helpful she gave me the paper that I had to fill out and as soon as I was done they gave me a new card. They have a decent selection of books. They have the newer books of the James Patterson Alex cross series and the James Patterson women murder club series. read more

Not one of my favorite libraries. The hours are wonky, the parking lot can get full, and they seem to never have any of the new books I want. Every time I try to order something it goes to a different library towns away, then they charge you $1 if you don't pick it up. I asked if there was a way it could directly come to me and they said there is an option on the internet but I never can find it. I do miss my library back home! read more

LAPL is a world-class library system. This branch is nice for a number of reasons. It is easy to get to, there is plenty of parking, and the collection is good for a branch of this size. Both librarians I have spoken to were extremely helpful. I have my books sent there, and books on hold are shelved alphabetically by your last name for easy retrieval. Having moved to the neighborhood, I am glad to have a nice branch that I can walk to. read more

It's a community library so you have all different types of patrons; elderly, children, disabled etc. Yes, there is the occasionally weird coughing person. The thing I like about this library is the way they've organized it; the study area isn't directly next to the children's books section. Nice to study, good wifi. Pretty quiet except for kids so if you're super noise sensitive then bring ear plugs but the kids don't stay for hours. read more

Rude and disrespectful employees especially, the two old ladies that works in the morning. They are the worst. Bad attitude , rude and arrogant. The tall Asian makes fun of people loud and laughs with other Asian. No one is cool here. Manager backs up employees on everything than taking care of the employees. Library customers are their second priority that pays their salary but, employees are first. One good thing that now allows people to use the restrooms without ID's as a lot of people were getting frustrated! Wifi is still dead and slow as a snail. I will give you one star. read more

After reading the negative reviews on this library, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. Boy were those reviews right. It appears that this is more of a homeless shelter, than a library. Everything seems filthy, dirty. In the men's restroom, there is only 1 toilet and 1 urinal that has been out of order for who knows how long. They have the urinal cover with plastic and out of order. So if you want to urinate, you have to hope that no one is using the toilet. When I asked if the urinal was going to be fixed anytime soon, they looked at me like if I was crazy. What would happen if I bring my 10 year old son and he needs to use the bathroom. He would need to go outside into the alley and probably use it, since there's no where to go if the toilet is occupied with all the homeless. Cmon guys, don't we pay enough taxes to at least fix the urinal? The staff here are unprofessional. They appear to care less about what goes on in this place. They have this attitude like they're here to do their 8 hours, make their money and go home. I doubt it if they live in the community! This place needs a total makeover, including staff!!! Come here at your own risk and bring your Lysol spray and hand sanitizer with you. Definitely not a place to bring your kids!!!!! read more

I live near by this library . I am a frequent visitor there and I must admit this place is the creepiest library I've been in the people (i.e homeless people , drunks , and crackheads) come into the library which scares me. There's fruit flies there so it's kind of hard for me to stay there for a long time. It has a stench in the air ALWAYS. Someone is always stealing the bathroom key !!!! One homeless guy was lowkey stalking me & found me on instagram so know I just request my books online & go pick them up. There's this one old librarian who wears glasses she's the meanest bitch in the plant ! I told her it was teenagers outside smoking weed & she barely winched !!! . I believe this library is trying the best they can I really appreciate that I love when the older women come in to read to the kids. ! If you're a kid I think you would have an amazing time there - believe it or not the employees are so kind to the kids. read more

The library closest to my house. I love libraries in general, and have since I was a kid. I have a Kindle, but nothing replaces an actual book, and for that reason I will always support my local libraries. One star off for a recent incident: I returned two books in the after hours slot (like I have numerous times before). One book was removed from my account per usual, but the other somehow got "lost" in between the slot and the actual library. I went in several times, asking them to check all the areas it could possibly be, I even checked the shelf myself. I put out a trace, but the book was never found. It ended up being officially considered lost and I had to pay for it. The cost for losing a used book, by the way, was much higher than if I purchased it new, because they tack on a fine. Which is all really annoying, considering I DID return the darn thing. :( I can only assume someone came up to the slot after me, was able to reach in somehow and pulled one of my books out? Or that a library employee took it? I was surprised to be told they did not have security cameras at the outside return area, which could've proved I did place it in the drop. What's stopping someone from vandalizing it, or putting something illegal/dangerous inside? Weird, right?? In my head, I chalked up the money spent to an imaginary "library membership fee", and I will continue to use the LAPL. Just never the after hours return slot, ever again. read more

On this Thanksgiving weekend, I want to express how grateful I am to have this good little library in my community! I have been a teacher for 20 years, and I regularly use this library to meet with adults and children whom I tutor. In my experience there since summer of 2018, the facility has a friendly and welcoming "old school" feel to it, and it has been clean, safe, and conducive to learning. The library parking lot in the back is often full on the week days in the afternoon, but I don't find it problematic as there is always plenty of open parking spaces right across the street in the big shopping center. God bless the staff for their patience and tolerance in dealing with rude people on a daily basis. Adult Librarian, Patty, and Administrative Clerk, Sandra, in particular are kind, respectful, diligent, knowledgeable, and very helpful about library uses, tools, resources, activities, and community events. The public computers work great, but you must have a library card to use them. If you plan to use a public computer during peak hours (typically after school between 2-5pm), I recommend reserving one ahead of time.
