I am thankful that the public library system still exists. This library is walking distance for me which is great. It also serves a large community in Canoga Park. The library is organized and has plenty of seating all around. I love that it is opened on Saturdays as it serves me as a place of research as well as a study place. Did you know they have free wi-fi? Isn't that awesome!!!!! The children's reading section is nice, comfortable, accommodating and pretty stocked up with the classics. You can also check out Dvd's. Will keep coming back as long as it is around.

The best thing about library is Ms. Patty. She's amazing. She's always willing to help and provide info when needed. 5 Stars!

Surrounded by shopping carts piled high with stuff. Filled with transients. I am sorry that children have to go there.

The woman helping her was calling out for someone named Charles, she did this a few times loudly, then the man at the door was walking back and forth but never to the area we were at, didn't know why at the moment. Then some white guy walks in with books, stands behind us & right away that creepy man at the door walked right up to him and asked him if he needed help, I saw the woman at the desk give him a look, she was done with the girl then I walked up with my child, the white male clerk was extremely courteous almost ass kissing to the other white man, well the male clerk was, yup Charles, he was hiding from the woman clerk so he didn't have to help us. I didn't say anything, I had my kid & didn't want him to see the ugliness of racism first hand in our neighborhood, such a horrible thing that racism is so out in the open like this, shame on you Charles, you prick!

The space was clean and plenty of parking in the lot. For more popular books, we were able to put the books on hold via the app (which is a bit clunky but to no fault of this branch) for pickup here once available.

They're especially great to my 3 young kids. You can tell they're always excited to see young people in eager to read. The location is also very unassuming from the outside. Honestly, I had driven by it dozens of times before even realizing it was there. Out of the corner of my eye, it looked like it was just part of the fire station that's next door. Because of this, if you're not paying attention, you can easily drive by without realizing it. The parking lot is also very small and with tight spots so be prepared to have to park along the street (which is a hill) and walk in. That, or just go during 'off hours' during the weekday if you can to ensure there won't be a ton of people in there. One of the highlights to this location is a large meeting room. They have tons of community events for just about everything under the sun. Be sure to check out upcoming events to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. However, just don't set lofty expectations. I took my kids here for an event (I don't want to call out what it was because the librarian who put it on did seem to have great intentions) that was a total dud. I think it just wasn't planned through enough and or she was just overwhelmed by the rambunctious, loud group of young elementary school kids who showed up. I don't want to say don't take your kids to children events here. Our experience very well could have been a one off. Just set you expectations accordingly. These are events planned and put on by the librarians. They're not experts in any particular field and they are bound by the resources at hand. So, in all, if this is your local library, it's a nice one with a good amount of things to offer. However, if this one is a bit out of your way, I would maybe say just stick to your local branch. Remember, if they have a book here that you want, you can always have it sent to your local brand for free. That's the joy of LA's massive public library system.

Then as the weather was drifting into May Gray coolness, we wanted to go to the Chatsworth Library for some indoor quiet time. That branch was closed at the time, having renovations on their HVAC systems. It wasn't that far to get to Northridge, so we checked out that location. We found a convenient parking place, then a clean restroom inside. Then it was time to visit the children's section in the back corner. What a delightful time for 6 year-old SG. She was in reading heaven. She browsed the racks, picked out several books at a time, then found various places to snuggle up with her finds. Dear Hubby happily found the magazines and started reading on his own. There are tables and chairs, and also computer desks near the kids' area, so we could be close, but give SG her space. I was checking work email for a while, and then Yelp reviews. The layout and design features of the children's section are very charming and create a cozy atmosphere. SG was excited to learn that she could have her parents get her a library card so that she'd be able to check out a certain number of books and take them home for a time. A library fan is born! I told her about when I was a kid on the first day of summer vacation I would ride my bike across town to the library and come home with a basket of books to read. That was my ritual throughout the start of the summertime. Read, read, read. Go for a swim, get something to eat, then read some more. Simpler times!

I'm working on a more comprehensive report of the authoritarian culture I've observed here. The supervisor, the librarian and the security guard triangulate in ways to avoid accountability. I'm well versed in all their methods because I've been subjected to them. These techniques are being used too often. They are too practiced and methodical. There's a stark contrast in culture compared to neighboring public libraries. The supervisor is a Karen. She has hand picked staff that are supportive of her behavior. She had trained them to coordinate her oppressive protocols. I will document all actions taken against me: be they open or covert. I will voice them publicly and at local city council meetings. The library belongs to the people. The library of all places should be inclusive. There are kind library ushers Working at this library Who are more suitable administrators. The cognitive dissonance Produced from Oppression at the Northridge public library Requires reconsideration of Management
