This location is my local library, been coming here for years & never had an issue. Well today was very disappointing, I was in line with my child waiting to check out a book, the library clerk at the front desk was helping a young lady, there was also a man standing at the entrance just looking at us , I thought he was the girls father. The woman helping her was calling out for someone named Charles, she did this a few times loudly, then the man at the door was walking back and forth but never to the area we were at, didn't know why at the moment. Then some white guy walks in with books, stands behind us & right away that creepy man at the door walked right up to him and asked him if he needed help, I saw the woman at the desk give him a look, she was done with the girl then I walked up with my child, the white male clerk was extremely courteous almost ass kissing to the other white man, well the male clerk was, yup Charles, he was hiding from the woman clerk so he didn't have to help us. I didn't say anything, I had my kid & didn't want him to see the ugliness of racism first hand in our neighborhood, such a horrible thing that racism is so out in the open like this, shame on you Charles, you prick! read more

We love our neighborhood library. Always clean. We find books we are looking for and have very friendly staff.

Great location, lots of activities. Parking lot is small though, so sometimes need to park far and walk in, especially during events. Knowledgeable staff. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!!! I have NEVER EVER witnessed a Public Library to be THIS NOISY!!!! They have "Children's Storytime" where kids are read to, and interact by being Exceptionally LOUD/ and YELLING !! They also have Tutors that come in and read to people (out loud) right next to people that are trying to study!! This place is a COMPLETE JOKE!!! The officials DO NOT CARE, and DO NOT ENFORCE LIBRARY RULES! They also have Musical Recitals in the Multipurpose room- forcing us to all listen to the music and clapping and cheering! Platt Branch Library - Libraries Near Me - Woodland Hills, California

Great section for kids and toddlers! And they have a story-time in person on Wednesday mornings at 1030am. It does seem like the librarians are bothered by kids being kids so we can't stay as long as we would like. Parking is in front, in the lot and in the back. They have a small used book store in front. However there are transients that like to hang out outside and out back which makes it not as safe for children. I do like the Woodland Hills branch better because of this. read more

A quiet and comfortable place to study or read. I love to do my school work or writing here. There's a great selection of novels in many genres, newspapers, test prep books, and DVDs. My only complaint is that there are teens and children that are sometimes extremely loud and the librarians do not care to quiet them. Kids will be kids, but their behavior can be very disrespectful and inconsiderate to others who are just trying to get their work done. read more

I've been coming to this library since I was a child, so when I had the opportunity to bring my child here for story time I was so happy. I was about to get my child out of the car seat today when I realized she needed a diaper change urgently. I thought, "no problem. I'll used the changing station in the bathroom." We walk into the bathroom and there's no changing table. Went to the front to ask if there's a changing station. She said to check the bathroom. I go back in thinking maybe I somehow missed it. Nope. Nothing. I was ready to take my kid home, but knew they wanted to stay. So I set up a changing station on the sink area and rested my child's head on their dirty clothes and prayed no one would walk in. I got the job done cause moms are amazing, but I'm shocked that a PUBLIC library that has programs for children don't have a changing table!! read more

I don't spend a lot of time inside this library. I don't have kids; I don't require their computers; I don't work here. But, during my summer and winter break (teacher life!), I am a frequent visitor to check out and return books I have put on hold. The hold system is the best! After a quick search online, whatever books I want are on hold (and usually ordered from another library). Once the books are in, I get an email and I'm off to pick them up! There's a nice section near the front where all held books are waiting, in alphabetical order by library patron. The parking lot is a bit small and is frequently full, but if you keep driving, there is more parking to the left and right. There may be a transient or two napping in the shade; I've never had an issue, but it's good to be aware. read more

Staff is rude. The place is loud, lots of business women doing their private teaching classes there, in the middle of the library. My phone rang and I just picked up to tell the person to hold on a second, trying to grab my belongings and step outside to take the call and the librarian - middle-aged man - started yelling at me and saying I was being loud and needed to leave. I pointed out some others who were talking loud as megaphones & he insisted they had a better reason. Absurd! read more

As library's go, this one is quiet. There's even a bookstore with good quality used books at unbelievably low prices. The wifi is free, the librarians are helpful and the air conditioning is welcomed! Only downside is during peak after school hours the parking lot can fill up. Street parking is available, though. read more

Platt Branch Library - It's a great library - Libraries Near Me - Woodland Hills, California

Of all the local libraries in the West San Fernando Valley, I think the Platt Branch is the best! My children and I have been coming to Platt since they were born. When they were younger, we would spend countless hours in the Children's section reading and relaxing without worrying about bothering the older patrons due to the space distance between us. Toddler-sized sofas and chairs made them feel special and the stacks of colorful books at their eye level kept them curious for many an hour. Preschool story time during the week was especially fun as well. Now that my children are older, we are still at the Platt branch at least twice a week for some quiet study and research time. The reference desk librarians have always been quite helpful in finding a book, signing us up for a class (i.e. Robotics and Chess), ordering a book from another L.A. library, informing us of special events, or cheering my kids on with the summer reading program. Also, their highlighted reading section (see photo) for children always displays books celebrating various topics. The front desk librarians are also patient and kind with kids and adults alike and you feel like they grow with you. I have had many conversations with them about a large variety of topics and feel they love learning and reading as much as we do with their recommendations for books or DVDs related to topics we are checking out. The used bookstore right at the front entrance is bargain city! Manned by sweet volunteers, we always seem to find a great cookbook or reference book for a reasonable price. This area of the San Fernando Valley seems to have many people with collections of Time Life type books that are frequently donated-- perfect for curious children to learn with at family budget prices! The one small thing that is frustrating here is the parking! Popular times include weekday story hour and right after school gets out... so if you can come at another time, I would recommend waiting, or be prepared for a short walk. If that doesn't matter to you, (or even if it does really), this gem of a library is worth it! read more

Hey this is a good library ok. Its clean and very modern. I use to come here all the time after school from El Camino or my brothers from Taft. Ok so the downside is this place can get kid crowded after school is out but otherwise it is a very well organized and clean library. They have computers to login to and use. They have multiple help desks with most the of the people here being very friendly. They have or had a self checkout machine. They let you rent out movies, cds and dvds. Comic books. They also have a conference hall for events. Not bad right. read more

I just loooooove this library. We frequent other locations as well but this one just feels so much more homey and comfortable with smaller kids. We aren't looked at like a three headed dragon if the kids talk normal voice forgetting they're in a quite zone. It's old, not fancy and small... but it gets the job done. You can also order any books you're looking for from their online access. Any books in the LA county library will be brought for you to the location. I don't know why I've never really met a bubbly librarian.. (and don't expect them here!) but that's ok with me because I rarely talk with them unless I am asking them to explain something or wanting to check out. We do a lot of our homeschool work in here to get a different scene and it's just great! Never too crowed during school hours. Lots of hook ups for laptops or phones. Free wifi! Free ABC Mouse while you're in the library... I've also noticed AND APPRECIATED the extra security around the establishment! Transients have been sleeping and bathing inside and outside the building but that seems to have stopped the last couple weeks because of the extra security. Good job! read more

I really feel his love of reading has been patiently fueled by the kindness he has received here. I also love the lesson of being a responsible borrower. Platt Branch Library - Love our local library! It makes focusing on homework new and interesting - Libraries Near Me - Woodland Hills, California

Just drove to this location with a truck bed filled with books, intent on donating them. The parking lot is completely ridiculous and small, I had 7 people pull in without acknowledging me or even thinking they should accommodate for me, while I waited in the suicide lane. Did not get the name of the woman I spoke to so very briefly, but she made it clear within the first 30 seconds that she did not plan on accepting my donation. I even (reluctantly) threw out all of the books that IMO looked too old or worn or had the front or back covers ripped off. The woman eyes my truck bed, takes a deep breath and says, "well, I'm going to have to deny your donation today because we won't be able to make any money off of these." All books came from the home library of a family that just moved. Some were a little old, maybe, but more vintage than anything. I truly thought that donations were accepted FOR THE LIBRARY. Like, actually for the library, so that people can read them. This is maybe the 7th time I have donated a surplus of books to a library and the ONLY time my donation has been denied. Pissed and bummed I had to throw away so many books that could have been read. read more

I've been coming here for over a decade now and will keep coming here as long as I live in the area! Books are expensive, and having a library so close is so useful. I can't remember the last time I bought a book! I've borrowed books for pleasure as well as books for grad school exams. I've read magazines there too (more $ saved on subscriptions!). I utilize lapl.org to place books on hold and view fines, etc. I'm proud of how modernized our library system has become! It's so efficient--if there's a book you'd like that's not at the library, they'll transfer it over and email you when it's here. So easy. I appreciate that this library is so clean and so quiet, as a library should be. The staff are very friendly and helpful as well. read more

Glad to have this library in our neighborhood. They have amazing staff and wide array of Books, CDs, Audio books, kids corner etc. If you can't find it, their Librarian is available for you to assist and if they don't have it they can order it for you so you can pick it up or have it hold on a different library. You can find amazing books for $.50 cents to $2 (books that are usually 19.99-39.99) great finds! Also scored a brand new blu ray disc for kids for $1. Extra parking at the back and the street. Book drop off on the front right side of the library. Different FREE classes and activities for kids are available as well for the entire family! read more

Wonderful branch library. Due to a robust friends group, they offer the "hot off the press" bestseller program so patrons can check out up to 2 bestsellers for a one week period with no renewals or holds. The staff are quite friendly. Thanks also to the friends group there is a bookstore with very reasonable prices on a great selection of books. Of course your tax dollars support LAPL, but you can specifically support this branch for only $10 a year. Needless to say I am grateful to have such a great place nearby. read more

We used to go every Monday to visit "grandma Judy" for storytime. She is a great lady who loves to read to all the little ones. They now changed the day to Wednesday which makes it a little tougher for us, but we still try to see her once in awhile. read more

I want to begin by saying that I am quite experienced when it comes to libraries. As a student, I get the most done when I am furthest away from my bed, so libraries are my study place of choice. I also love seeing new libraries and I enjoy what each has to offer, so I basically always stop by the library in whatever city i'm in. So, how does the platt branch public library stack up? Well, it's nice and average really. They offer free wifi (I clocked the wifi speed at 5 up and 5 down for you dorks out there who care), and they have a used book store as well. The architecture is also pretty cool in an old school way. However, when it comes to seating, parking, and lack of noise, areas that I find critical in library, Platt lacks considerably when compared to the likes of the bevery hills or calabasas branch public libraries. read more
