Used this service last year and was very disappointed. Had to follow up to get the quote. Had to follow up repeatedly to have them come out. Did a poor job trimming our trees. Job was incomplete and missed many dead branches. Had to repeatedly follow up once again to have them grind the stump. After leaving messages and emails regarding my unhappiness with their job, Bud the owner said he'd fix it and return in the fall. He never did. He was a nice person, but full of excuses and no follow through. Do yourself a favor and pick someone more reliable. read more

It certainly wasn't I wanted to do, but I was happy I went with Bud at Canopy Tree Specialists when it was time to do something about the massive maple in my front yard, which was threatening my house, my car, and my kids. Bud came out right away and checked out the health of the tree, saying it was his strong preference to shore up/save trees whenever possible. Given what he saw, he arranged for a second and third opinion from one of his colleagues and the Lake Bluff arborist. They all eventually concluded that the tree had to be taken down. He and his crew set up all the permits and quickly and efficiently took down the tree (and broke my heart), leaving the yard clear of debris. His price was fair, and I was more than happy to support a great local business. I'd highly recommend anyone in the area to consult with Canopy Tree Specialists when making decisions about their trees. I'm looking forward to future conversations with them about how best to fill my yard back up with some replacement trees! read more

After receiving pricey estimates from several tree removal and landscaping companies, I was referred to Canopy Tree Specialists by a neighbor to remove six trees from around our house. Bud Clark, the owner, came out to provide an estimate, was punctual and very friendly, and provided a great quote that beat the others by a significant amount. He also knew all the village codes and permit processes for tree removal in Lake Bluff, and what to expect. Bud and his crew are professional, and VERY detail oriented. They worked quickly, safely, and cleaned everything up, and managed to remove all six trees with minimal impact to flower beds and surrounding shrubs. VERY IMPRESSED. Canopy was a personal referral to us. They were great to work with right at the start and seemingly professional. We were a little late in the season removing trees, so the weather interfered with completing the project. The owner had explained to us that they would be unable to finish, but that they would come back in spring without question. Come spring, I called to schedule the remaining work but no return calls. After 4 attempts at calling (and leaving voicemails) and several direct emails to the owner attempting to schedule, we heard nothing in return. I actually thought maybe they were no longer in business, but I saw them around town just the other day. This is extremely disappointing. We paid for their services up front and in full and they made a promise to us. Would not recommend since this is not a way anyone would want to do business. Very unfortunate. read more

His price was easily 30% lower than the previous low price I'd gotten, and I found his personality and sincerity more likable and trustworthy. He and his crew did the work in a super timely manner, with minimal damage to other trees and shrubs. Great to work with a company where the owner still does the work too. It's great to have a professional arborist from Lake Bluff to care for my trees. Bud and his crew are clean, punctual and reasonably priced. It's also nice to have an english speaking crew if I have any questions or changes when they're working. He's an expert on local regulations and the ins and outs of doing such heavy work on the North Shore. He has the biggest crane I've ever seen, and is able to squeeze it into the tightest places. He was actually able to pick a tree up over my house in one piece, eliminating any possibility of lawn damage, and cut it up on the road. Although they specialize in difficult big jobs, Bud will come out and get the smaller jobs done quickly and professionally. Reasonably priced local tree companies that are insured against damages are hard to come by in the area, he does not disappoint. There's no reason to call anyone else if you live in Lake Bluff or Lake Forest. read more

I really wanted to use Canopy since they had such good word of mouth around town, but they were really unresponsive. Last year I called and Bud came out pretty quickly for an estimate, gave me a verbal quote, and told me he would follow up with a written estimate. He never did, so I called and spoke to whoever handles his calls and said we'd like him to do the work. No response. Then I sent an e-mail just in case that message was lost. No response. I gave up since it was close to winter by this point. In the spring I called again and spoke to someone in his office and explained what had happened last year. Again no call back. We finally went with someone else who came out promptly and had the work done within a week. If Canopy was too busy or just didn't want to do our small-ish job I wish they would have just told us.
