Wait staff didn't ask if we had any questions about the menu or chat with us at all. Brought a dish of chips and pico de gallo almost before we got our meal. I have been to Cantina Vallarta a couple times already, and every one of those experiences were terrific. I like how the establishment looks culturally friendly for the theme of the restaurant. The food is always good. They always serve you some miniature tortilla chips with chunky salsa, which is nice except the salsa is just diced tomatoes and onions. The side dishes like the rice and refried beans are delicious. The main courses are great. I have had the Veggie Chimichangas, Chicken Ensalada and the Beef Tostadas. I would recommend this restaurant to any one that likes Mexican Cuisine. read more

If you like chopped lettuce and rice this place is for you. A burrito with no beans? Must be mammas special recipe. The fish tacos were made with a thin strip of breaded fish - with *lots* of chopped lettuce. And don't forget the dried out chunk of lime for your tacos. Wow!!! I don't even know what to say about this place except that both my daughters (14/11) said they wish they could give it infinity stars!!! We ordered the street tacos, chimichangas and enchiladas and they are all amazing. Best Mexican that we have ate outside Mexico and California. I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Fresh chips and salsa, although they needed to bring more salsa out with the chips. Ordered their special for the night, chicken Chipotle enchiladas. I was quite surprised at how tasty it was. Needed hot sauce, was disappointed they didn't make their own in house, but they sources a delicious local sauce. A few drops added some needed heat. One issue I did have were the frozen vegetables mixed in with the rice. It took so much away from the rice I couldn't really enjoy it. The refried heans weren't anything special, but oh well. Ordered the deep fried banana for dessert and was blown away. Superb. Service was great, nice and quick. The cook (owner?) Came out and asked how everything was. Great little Mexican place we stumbled upon! Desk clerk at our hotel was down on it; so glad we went for it anyway! Started with guacamole and chips which were both yummy, definitely fresh guac. My mango margarita was a little too sweet for my liking (rimmed with sugar, not salt), but good. I had the fish tacos for dinner. There were four of them and I thought they were terrific! They also have homemade hot sauce on the tables which we loved. (I almost bought a bottle to take home, but the $12.50/bottle seemed a bit much. Maybe I should've though?!) My partner had chicken fajitas which were good and both kids had bean and cheese burritos which they liked but were a tad pricey at $10 each-- kids size w just beans and cheese! We came for lunch because my husband and son had been here before but I hadn't. They both had the quesadilla lunch special and I had the Taco de Cerdo. My meal was spectacular! I especially loved the pineapple jalapeño salsa. I had a bite of my husband's quesadilla and it was delicious but nothing special. Holy crap was the food ever good! Ordered the special of the night and I was very impressed!! Great and consistent flavour with healthy portioning. I'm from out of province visiting my in-laws and thought we'd try something different. We were all pleasantly surprised by what we found in this place. The food was awesome. Me and my wife both had the chicken enchiladas and were blown away. My father in law loved his burrito and mother in law enjoyed her taco salad. Despite the bad reviews, I think this place is really good considering the small town of salmon arm. All of the food was tasty except for the refried beans. They were too liquidy and lacked a bit of flavour. They had one guy playing live music. I play an instrument myself and this guy is exceptionally good. It's a pleasure to watch him play the guitar and the violin. The tostadas were good, but the chimichangas were the best. Also the nachos were fantastic, loaded with cheese. I would go back for just the food, but also for just watching this guy play the guitar. I will be back in the future. read more

Sadly disappointed , menu haven't changed much but they changed the preparation, you no longer get separated condiment containers, instead there was a light squirting of sour cream, not nearly enough salsa, a dollop of guacamole on one side and a sea of what should be refreshing beans, floating in its sauce( way too liquid) , the chimichangas were very doughy, the meat was dry and the rice could very well have been a pkg of Mexican rice from Walmart. What a great surprise it was to find this wonderful little restaurant. I can't believe no one has commented yet, but I'm glad to be the first. To be honest, I was a little wary when we first entered as the place was empty except a young family completing their meal. It felt a little vacant so I was uncertain what to expect. We received chips and salsa. It is freshly made chips and salsa. The salsa was a little bland however I quickly ascertained this is probably for the young patrons. We added a couple splashes of hot sauce provided in a large bottle on the table and the salsa became great. ( we love our spice) Our meals arrived attractively plated and perfectly seasoned. Again there was a lack of heat but again this is quickly remedied if so desired. :) I had the Chili Rellenos. They were amazing and my boyfriend had red Enchiladas which were equally amazing. We were both more than satisfied with the portions. What a great meal. We will definitely make this a must stop when we are in Salmon Arm. Thank you for the great food. read more

I didn't have high expectations, having spent the last 13 winters in Mexico, so it turned into a pleasant surprise! There haven't been too many reviews since the new owner took over. First of all, the Margarita was the best I have had in a long time, tasted like seconds! Although there wasn't enough staff, after waving to the waitress, we had no problem getting another drink. While the menu is not truly authentic, the flavours where very good, and fresh. Pico de gallo was perfect, although we could have had more. I had Mexican shrimp on tortillas, and they were very good. We had been a couple of years ago, and didn't want to go back it was so bad, but the new owner has improved things tremendously. Service was slow, but they need more staff, and Krista did the best job she could with a full restaurant. She really was great and very pleasant! We will definitely come back! read more

I truly enjoy Mexican food and have eaten at many Mexican restaurants and I would have to say this one ranks near the top. Not only was the food spectacular the atmosphere was perfect. Even though there were only six patrons at the time (late on a Wednesday) the owner took the time to visit with each costumer and even sang a song while playing the guitar. A very authentic vibe to the restaurant's environment was very refreshing, The margaritas are great and the service was good all of our needs were met, while they were not outrageously bubbly and fake, i personally appreciated that. It did seem they were ever so slightly under staffed on server's when we arrived as there were only two, however, both were nice and helpful. I ordered the vegetarian Enchiladas de Mole and it was great! They had a slight taste of chocolate in the sauce with a perfect amount of spice, almost all of the dishes had a vegetarian option which was much appreciated in this town. read more
