I love eating at food courts with my family as it gives us a chance to sample multiple dishes from different places and still eat together. This was one of those days. My daughter had a craving for ho-fun (stir-fired rice noodle dish), so we opted to sample their beef option. The noodles were beautifully fried with great wok-hei and the velveted beef sliced were tender and easy to eat. The usual addition of green onion, bean sprouts and eggs made for a satisfying addition to our lunch. Overall flavour of the ho-fun was spot on and my daughter was happy. :) We'll be back to sample more of their abundant offerings soon! read more

I was in the plaza grabbing grocery when I realized it was past 1pm. I always wanted to try their signature chicken when they still had a branch at Sheppard x Pharmacy, but never got a chance to do so. I ordered their signature fish sauce chicken rice. For under $10 with a drink, it was definitely a steal! They were very generous with the amount of chicken, and even more generous with the rice. I saved the leftover rice for dinner that night. The chicken was definitely very smooth, just like Hainanese chicken. Hence, I suspected they cooked the chicken using the same technique of submerging it in hot broth. We ordered the Stir fried fish with Bean Curd ($10.75) and Shrimp with Cashew Nuts ($10.75) and it came with a complimentary box of rice. How nice! Lunch Special from $4.50-$5.00 tax in that includes a drink/soup?! I really don't understand how they able to make a profit with this prices. Canton Kitchen is located inside Chartwell Mall's food court and possibly the busiest food stall there. With this price point, no wonder that are so many people ordering from here. Service is fast and efficient. Everything seems to have a system and the cashier might not greet you and chat chit with you. They are here trying to take as many orders as fast as possible, not here to socialize with customers. Even on a busy Saturday lunch rush, it only took 10 minutes for my order to be ready. The menu is quite extensive, but I ordered some favorites to try out - Chicken Fried Rice with Garlic Sauce, Sweet and Sour Pork, Rice Noodles with Beef, and Baked Pork Chop with Cheese Tomato Sauce on Rice. Weekends are very busy, so the wait time was about 25 minutes. The service is very brisk, so it's best to know exactly what you want before you reach the cashier. I appreciate that the dishes weren't overly salty, greasy, oily or packed with corn starch. The sauces were light and incredibly flavorful. Meats, fish and vegetables were all tender and juicy. Vegetables were crisp and not bruised. The Stewed Sliced Pork w/ Preserved Vegetable really took me back in time. It's been awhile since I've had this dish. This was one of my dads favorite dishes. But what do you expect it's a chinese food court not a restaurant. The quick, cheap and delicious. Portions are great. If you pay for a member card, forever you get 10% off your order by paying cash. Today I order the stir fry beef rice noodle. Always on point. Tip: maybe a challenge getting a table in the food court. Always busy at lunch or dinner time. I can see that this place gets poor reviews due to poor service, but I've coming here for years and haven't had any bad experiences to date. For exactly $23.50 you can get four delicious dishes with a big container of rice, enough to fill up my stomach and three others! This combo (401) consists of soya sauce chicken, deep fried tofu with beef, preserved veggie and shredded pork vermcelli, and finally, an egg dish fried with fish. It's an amazing deal, and I come here with my family whenever we don't feel like cooking a meal at home. My favourite dishes are the egg fried with the little fish (not sure what type of fish is) and the preserved veggie and shredded pork vermicelli. Had the preserved veggie and shredded pork vermicelli. Came to $5 and a bit after tax. Not bad. Lots of vermicelli. Not bad on the pork or the preserved veggie, but I have yet to find a place that does exceedingly well in terms of the portions on the pork or veg. I wish the broth had more flavor, or something. Very bland, unless you get a bite of the preserved veggie. When I asked for an extra bowl (in Cantonese), the lady frowned at me, but gave one to me anyways. If possible, I would rate this/these restaurant(s) zero stars. Yes, their food is priced reasonably but the quality of food is mediocre at best. However, I strongly encourage you to rethink putting your money towards this restaurant/the 3 that are named 'Canton' because they aren't as great as they seem. I know of many past employees whom have quit because the owners are simply mean people. There are many stories floating around about them disrespecting their employees (ex. name calling and verbally degrading their employees on and off scene/work hours). My friends and I used to into the Chartwell plaza when we were in the area for some fast chinese food and Canton Kitchen was our pick despite the poor customer service they gave. However, most of the time when the female 'owner' (not sure of her name but she has these big glasses) was there, my friends and I would hear her insulting her employees in Cantonese. My Cantonese isn't the best but I know enough to understand that they were insults (ex. calling them rats/lazy or slow pigs). I also know past employees have also told others about this so it's definitely known around the Chartwell area. The Canton chains have also had their fair share of sketchy stories but I'll leave that out of the review. So to recap, I know the food is cheap and is 'pretty good' based off of the reviews on here but please PLEASE think twice about putting your money into a business that's owned by people who view their employees, the people who essentially hold their business together, as pigs, rats and other degrading names. Yes, maybe that's just 'the way it is' or is 'the Chinese culture' but that's just not right. I wouldn't want my employer to call me a slow and lazy rat and I'm sure those reading this review wouldn't either.
