Used to be our favorite,but early this year something wasn't the same,cold bland fried rice lunch specials,

So far I like Canton Tea Gardens. I had some sweet and sour chicken from the place and it had good flavor. We got some of the green beans as well, and those were really good. I shared them with the baby and she was a fan as well--oddly, she especially seemed to like the onion that they're stir fried with. The BBQ pork fried rice is pretty good as well, but if you call to order it they say they don't have that, just "regular pork fried rice". It actually makes me wonder if I'm ordering with the restaurant directly or if when I call it's routing to some third-party service, but at any rate they give me the rice I ordered. Moo shoo has also been a hit, and the kiddo seems to like it pretty well too. Service has been friendly, and they take ApplePay. There's not much parking here, and it's all street. But it also seems to be mostly a takeout place; when I've gone in I've encountered more folks picking up than eating in. I can't say I won't continue to explore nearby Chinese restaurants but this one is what I'd consider home base. read more

This was my go to place for decades and we always had good food. This time it was terrible. The beef had a foul odor and the rice had a different texture. We ended up throwing it out. Large, clean place with very friendly people and good prices. The first place I've ever seen with both Mei fun and chow fun on the menu, that's a good sign. Tea was served at each table, signaling a very traditional restaurant. I had the Singapore Mei Fun. There was a lot of meat. I got a whiff of curry but it's so spicy you can't taste it. Thumbs up. She went with Chicken Kow, which is moo goo gai pan without the moo or something like that. She liked it. Since that first visit we ordered delivery from them and the food was just as good at home. Second time I've been there and the owner forges a higher tip on the credit card entry. This time I took a picture of the receipt. Contacted American Express and they recommended filling a complaint on the Better Business Bureau. Also the service is lousy. Food is not impressive. We used to love all the food we would get from this restaurant. They must of changed hands as the last two times we have gone here, it has not been good. House chop suey. Mostly bean sprouts, lacked flavor and watery. It didn't even look good Chicken soup. Broth had zero flavor. Egg foo young, used to be our favorite. Totally changed and again lacked flavor. Crab Rangoon, very little filling and chewy. Egg rolls were passable, but still meh The chow fun was good. I would buy that again but not thing else. This place has been in this location forever. It's always been busy, but on my last visit I couldn't help but think it was just 2 people running it. A very courteous young woman did everything up front, and you got the sense there was just one cook in the kitchen because most everyone I was with including me was waiting about an hour for their food. Honestly, this had to be the most unflavorful food I have ever had. Wonton soup - I can only describe it as tasting like cardboard smells. Two bites. Inedible. Egg rolls- too much of whatever spice is typically in it. Cinnamon? Five spice? One bite, both went in the garbage. Hong su chicken- zero flavor. None. Another couple bites and I tossed it. Crab rangoons- deep fried cream cheese. Two stars only because they were friendly. I will never go back. I feel like this is such a waste of food. read more

Worst experience ever. Only one waitress and she has a line of 6 to 7 people waiting on take out orders....weird loud phone ringing and speaker announcing. ORdered two soups, one brought out and cold, Other soup came much later with food. No service during meal...later went up to pay...after waiting almost 2 hours...waitress upcharged and did not show itemized bill. So I'm one of the customers like some of the others that have to question -what happened to the food? There are some inconsistencies where as sometimes the food is still good, and sometimes not so much. The eggrolls are still okay, but I find that sometimes the sauces/gravies are bland and flavorless. Some cons to mention: Bland fried rice. If I was blindfolded, I couldn't tell you which meat flavored fried rice I was served. Months ago I ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, and it didn't taste like the typical Sweet and Sour syrup you would get anywhere else. It tasted like it was swimming in very watered down pineapple juice. 2x times I've ordered Beef and Cashew Nut, and the gravy tasted like Sauerkraut. And - it tasted like the beef in it was half fresh and half old recooked and overcooked tough beef mixed in. I also recently received 3 large orders of Steamed White RIce with multiple entrees that were all literally under cooked like uncooked rice. All of the above were on takeout orders. I surely hope they read this and correct the issues. Problems are happening all the time now. If it continues, we'll just start giving our money to a different place. Canton Tea use to be great, must have changed cooks last 2 times not good all dishes lack flavor

We ordered 3 vegetable egg roll, small cashew chicken & general Tso's chicken. The general Tso's chicken had 3 narrow strips about 1/2" in length of carrot, 2 pieces celery, 1 piece onion, a a narrow 1" pice of green pepper. Very disappointing! We paid $2.00 extra to have them add green onions. The person who called me back had ZERO customer service skills. Her response was this is how we make it. I told her it used to have round carrot discs, more onions & peppers. The conversation was a waste of my time as she was not listening to me. My husband & I have been ordering from there since the 90's. We will no longer patronize them. read more

Have been ordering from here for over 20 years, now all of a sudden they can't make things that are on their menu and the told us that not all the food is cooked fresh. The restaurant is in need of a renovation. Carpet needs to be replaced along with booths, tables, and chairs. Staff is unintentionally impolite, somewhat comical really if you've got a good sense of humor. I called in my order and it was ready accurately and in 10 minutes. Chicken and broccoli comes in a white sauce with other vegetables like mushrooms and carrots, etc. I wished it was just chicken and broccoli. It was good despite the looks and it wasn't overly salty. The chicken fried rice was okay too. Nothing to write home about but I'm glad it was actually fried rice and not yellow rice, peas and carrots, and pieces of white chicken that some places try to pass for fried rice. pulled up Canton Tea Garden on Google and went to their "website" which takes you to "onlineorderhub.com" - we ordered fried rice and egg rolls for delivery. the delivery came to our house and we received 2 egg foo young plates. We thought we were on their site. even the web address on this Yelp page is not correct. When I called to get our order fixed and get what we paid for - I was told I need to take it up with whomever I ordered through. Which we believed was the restaurant. The Manager then hung up the call after saying they can't locate our "ticket". I like their food, but do not order delivery from them as they outsource it to someone else. you have no recourse if it is wrong. read more

There used to be two Chinese restaurants within wonton-throwing distance here on Devon, of which this one was the the lesser. However, that other place closed a few years ago, so I guess Canton Tea Gardens won! The food here is fine. They have a large selection of entrees on the lunch combination list. Service is cheery and the food orders quite quick....VERY quick, which certainly doesn't say much for the freshness of the food. + Above average egg rolls +/- Tasty pork fried rice; needs more vegetables + Chicken with black mushrooms good, mushroomy enough - Sweet & sour chicken terrible: bland chicken/batter, watery sauce not at all sour + Solid General Tso's chicken, pungent sauce only slightly hot read more

New owners have made this place from a place that was barely passible to a place I want to explore their menu more. I am really impressed with the flavors, execution and quality of ingredients. The eggrolls have just enough peanut butter to compare them to some of the long lost NW Chicago places like Tony's Peking Garden and Tony's Hong Kong Inn. The place is super clean compared to it's previous owners and it has a very vibrant authentic Chinese feel with the hanging lanterns and decorations. They have redone and cleaned so much of the place that I hope they will start to draw a crowd to enjoy a 1950's vibe of an old school Chinese establishment. Thank you for being open and giving us folks in Edison Park a place to get Chinese food. Tonight at about 7:45 pm we ordered and were told it would be ready in 15 min. By the time I got there, I was the only one there, and entered to see my order ready to pick up. They have a big clear plexiglass blocking the cashier. The woman was great to pick to pick up a call and put them on hold to allow me to quickly check out. On my way out, someone was walking up without a mask, but then I headed home and ate a good dinner at home that was hot and filling. Good crab Rangoon and tasty General tso-with a lighter sauce and not really something I would get again, but it was tasty white meat. The Mongolian beef was good as well. The Terriyaki beef skewers were something we will be ordering again. All in all, a good meal and I felt that this place should allow people to order without any issues of wait times. Who knows if this is a two person business now, but if they keep this service up for folks with larger orders, I would try another one of their full meal deals- there were some I had no idea what it was, but I imagine if I look through previous reviews, I might find something else to try. read more
