I have not eaten food here yet, but I can reflect on the fruit smoothies and quality of the service. I stopped by for a smoothie because it was an 80 degree day in March. I was enticed by the picture of bubble tea on the menu. When I went in to order, I was told that they did not have the tapioca beads. I was sad.. but hot and thirsty... so I ordered a smoothie anyway. They allow you to combine two flavors, so I picked honeydew and pineapple. This was one of the best smoothies I have ever had. The consistency was perfect and the flavor was sweet.. but not too sweet... a perfect blend. The service was prompt and friendly. I will have to return when I am hungry! read more

If there was an option for zero stars I would give none. Nothing I ordered was tasty it was all bad! I ordered egg rolls, crab rangoon, chicken fried rice, and orange chicken. The egg rolls had too much vegetables in whole not fully chopped through. The crab Rangoon tasted stale. The rice was absolutely flavorless just tasted so bland and the type of onions aren't the real onions used for chicken fried rice. Orange chicken wasn't fully done inside tasted very mushy. I'm just overall disappointed and dissatisfied. Prices match the taste. read more

Don't order here. .. I give this Chinese Restaurant only 2 stars.. The Beef Fried Rice and Beef Kow that I ordered for delivery didn't taste good at all.. The Beef Fried Rice had a greasy taste and bland and the beef kow was wasnt delicious either I came to the conclusion that the people that left 4 star reviews have no idea what very good tasting and excellent made Chinese food tastes like... First time going I asked for sweet n sour sauce I get only soy sauce then second time going I asked for sweet n sour sauce I get duck sauce and third and last time I asked for sweet n sour sauce again I get 10 packets duck sauce and 1 packet sweet n sour. Wow really how annoying and they were lucky I even gave them a few chances when the food actually sucks. Ragoons are filled with a cheap cream and no crab what so ever and all of the fried rice dishes have no veggies in them. Just your choice of meat. What really caught my attention is that I tip in the ridiculous tip jar thing they have and they don't even say thank you let alone a hello when you walk in. read more

Today I ordered from them and sweet and sour chicken as well as the pork were drenched in oil and soggy the teriyaki beef pieces were super salty and very hard to chew. The egg rolls werent the best, but they weren't terrible. The only thing that was good was the combination fried rice. Let's just get it out of the way - China Express is a bad name. It's the kind of name you find in a food court in a suburban mall, right next to a Burger Barn, a YOLO Yogurt, a Chicken! Chicken! Chicken! or a Kebab Kingdom. Blah. Would you order from Italy Express? Greece Express? Mexico Express? Those aren't restaurants, they're third-rate soccer teams on a non-FIFA-sanctioned Nintendo game. China Express? Come on, you can do better than that. That being said, we've been ordering from this place since we moved into the neighborhood 20 years ago. We tried most of the Chinese restaurants within a few miles of our house and always ended up back here. I think the restaurant was sold or taken over by new management at some point during that time but everything has remained consistent. The food is always very good - huge portions - and they are incredibly accommodating on subbing certain items out. We've been ordering modified versions of chicken kow, Szechuan combos and other dishes for years and no one has ever given us any grief about it. The food is always ready when I get there or delivered within 30 minutes. I've never eaten in the restaurant but that's because it's just a few tables and has no second door to the outside, so in the winter, you get a nice blast of arctic air with your egg rolls each time someone opens the door. Plus, it seems like the TV is always tuned to "America's Funniest Home Videos," which - let's be honest - is kind of passé with YouTube. Still, if you like seeing videos of dogs running into closed patio doors and guys getting hit in the nuts with baseball bats, then it might be a plus. Despite its Woodfield-worthy name, I admire China Express because they know who they are and what they do well, so they just keep doing it. Sure, they've added smoothies, but any place that only sells pop in cans because - well, why wouldn't they sell pop in cans? - has my respect. I also like the matter-of-factness of their cashiers, whether they're taking my order or my money. They don't shower me with unnecessary platitudes or greetings. They're just there to take care of business, like Elvis. The TCB Elvis, not the quaalude Elvis. And I'm betting that if the King were still alive and living on the Northwest Side, he'd order from China Express himself, and request peanut butter and bananas with just about everything. And they would comply, no questions asked. read more

Five star review for their delivery service - I haven't actually visited the restaurant, so I can't comment on the space or the table service. However, the food quality is high. Egg foo young is done to a nice consistency, not overcooked and hard. Fried rice is just average, egg rolls are good, chicken chow mein is solid. Overall, they have great variety on the menu, fresh ingredients, good use of seasoning, good prices, and a really courteous delivery driver. Give it a try. read more

My husband and I have ordered take out food from here since late October/Early November, and LOVE it. Husband has gotten sweet and sour chicken for lunch on Friday's for over a decade and this is the only place that does a decent job that we've tried in Chicago. And yes, we've tried a few places by now. Fried rice is GOOD. I don't like fried rice by nature, and we both like our lunch specials with half and half (half fried and half white rice.) I tend to get different menu options every time, and they are willing to make spicy dishes less spicy or to substitute ingredients as needed (I don't do broccoli and they can do beef and broccoli, hold the broccoli and add other veggies I do like.) Lots of dishes with almonds in them. They care about what they do, and recognize us now and say hi. Their eggrolls are happy things. Although they have a small dining area that is fine, we usually do take out. They carry fruit tapioca smoothies and Pepsi products. HUGE lunch specials. Yummy! read more

Easily the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. Ordered delivery. Sweet & sour chicken with some pot stickers. Pot stickers were edible, but that is as far as I would go. Sweet & sour was basically KFC style chicken fingers with watery, tasteless sauce. I had two bites and threw it out. Called China House and got their version. It was better (but not much). I will stick to Chicago-style pizza when in Chicago from now on. I may never eat sweet & sour again... Sigh... read more

Just moved to the area and was craving Chinese takeout. Stopped by and ordered some Mongolian beef. When I got home I was disappointed to see that it was beef and peppers instead. I called to let them know of the error. They told me that their Mongolian beef has mushrooms, onions, carrots and green peppers instead of scallions and that if I wanted it with scallions, I need to let them know. They exchanged my order but it was the same thing plus green onions. I tossed their menu in the garbage. On top of them creating whatever they want and calling it whatever they want, the food was pretty tasteless. Lesson learned. read more

This is the most unprofessional restaurant we've ever ordered from. Two hours after the order was placed, they closed their restaurant early and never delivered our food. They updated the delivery time once via GrubHub, which was the only indication that there may be an issue. I started calling them after an hour of waiting for delivery and they never answered their phones to say they were backed up. I called multiple times. If they just would have picked up the phone and explained, I would have understood and made other arrangements. The lack of communication is the most frustrating. read more

I used to love this place but not anymore. I went there today and I am very upset. I ordered 2 combination fried rice. It seemed like it was just rice and no combination. There was hardly any meat in the rice and the rice was not cooked properly. I am very disappointed and I will not be coming back. read more

I've been ordering from China Express for years. Always great food and haven't found another Chinese takeout place in my area worth ordering from. However over the past year, every single time I order, they get something wrong or forget some of my items. When I call back, they never apologize. They literally fight with me over it. Today was my final straw. I ordered through grub hub, they brought me my food and did not give me my 2nd order of fried rice. I called the restaurant and the lady told me to check my grub hub order because it said I only ordered 1 fried rice. I looked and sure enough I had ordered two. Told her I paid the full amount for my order including 2 fried rice. She told me I needed to call the driver and talk to him about it. I told her no. That isn't my job. I just want my fried rice. She literally told me if I wanted it then I needed to pay another $3.00 delivery fee. I asked why and she said because it says you only ordered one. I told her that's fine but I paid for two and the driver didn't even blink an eye when I gave him all the money I did which was well over the amount due since you were under the impression that I was only getting one. She gave me an attitude and said fine I'll have them bring it but I want 3 dollars. Unreal!!! I won't be ordering again. It's unfortunate because like I said, I really like their food. They need to hire another girl who isn't so rude and who gives a crap about their customers. Done. read more
