Ordered for delivery as they had a flyer in my hotel lobby. It was lunch time and the food arrived in about 40 minutes. It was hot and all items (including utensils) were included. So far all is good. I ordered BBQ pork chow mein lunch special with pork fried rice and a side of pot stickers. The chow mein and rice came is a styrofoam box and felt heavy. I opened it to see that the serving size was plentiful. There was a paper carton for the pot stickers. The serving size was 6. Again, plenty of food. I dug into the chow mein to find it sort of bland. No flavors popping out. Just steamed veggies with some noodles. The rice was the same. I was hoping for something more but it was just boring. The pot stickers were different. I expected steamed but these didn't seem to be. They were drier. You could eat them like finger food. The cover seemed thicker was well. I dipped them in the sauce but it did not add much. The taste of the inside was overshadowed by the dough covering. Again, not exciting. When all was done I maybe ate a quarter of what I bought. Would not advise customers of African American nationality to dine here no support This business. My issue with this establishment is I've picked up orders from here just as a doordasher and have experienced rudeness and condescending looks from staff each time. I ignored the first instance but this second instance i will not. I entered the restaurant to pick up a DoorDash order and before even being greeted (not that i received one) the hostess looked me up and down as if she was searching for something. I spoke and said hello pickup for "...." And then asked her what was she looking for when searching me up and down? Her response in a very rude and aggressive tone was "i need to see phone" - verbatim. I proceeded to show her the customers order on my phone just to not prolong my time in the restaurant. Wallpaper peeling raggedy off the walls is just one sign of how far Moy Lee has gone downhill since the pandemic. Still serves great egg rolls and large entree portions (enough good to get it 2 stars), but all dishes are very greasy with bland seasonings and tough meats and don't come out of the kitchen steaming hot as they should. When a friend and I ate in on a week night at 6 p.m., we were the only customers there with employees sitting at tables annoyingly operating loud digital devices. (There is no piped-in music.) While it isn't necessarily typical for Chinese restaurants to have liquor licenses, Moy Lee used to have one that allowed it to serve cocktails, which is no longer the case. read more

New owners, and the customer service has gone way down. First, we were the only table yet took a long time to come over. Four employees sitting/eating/chatting but didn't come over to take our order. I asked three separate times for hot tea. They seemed disorganized and unsure how to take care of us. Took two employees an extended amount of time to figure out how to split the bill on two credit card. Just not the level of customer service the previous owners had. This was our first time ordering from here and most likely the last as well. We had decided to try the butterfly bacon wrapped shrimp and the shrimp was completely raw. The bacon had no flavor. The lemon chicken had sweet and sour written next to it in parenthesis. I am used to getting lemon chicken from other restaurants and it tasting lemony. I was hoping it was just a description of the taste of it being a.little sweet and sour like a lemon not actually sweet and sour chicken with some lemon slices tossed in. Just before the shelter-in-place order hit, I decided to grab takeout from Moy Lee. Enough time had past since my last visit and thought I should give them another go. I ordered by phone from the road having a general idea of what I wanted. Asked for recommendations based on customer favorites and mentioned they could take their time cooking since I had time to drive out. They mentioned having lunch specials but that appetizers did not come with an entree and had to be purchased separately. Different and odd when compared to other FF Chinese restaurants operating nearby with similar pricing. In any case, I ordered a lunch special, potstickers and egg rolls. Also asked if they take special requests, they said yes. So I asked if they could make the meal medium spicy. The phone person gave me an ETA and I was on my way. When I arrived some twenty minutes later the counter-gal said my food had been ready awhile now.. Odd but no big deal. Their diner had a few customers and staff were just chillin' waiting on new business to walk through the door. **Two details to mention since my last review. The exhaust fan above the door got fixed.. it operated but not as loudly like last time. And the funky smell was gone.. thank goodness. Or perhaps it's the fan that helps keep the funky smell at bay. The food was typical, Americanized, Cantonese fast food. Goopy, brown sauced boredom. Not terrible but just a meal. Depending on your dollar spend, the takeaway bag will feel heavy which is great for the bargain hunter. Remember when I asked if they take special requests? They had said they could make my meal medium spicy. Instead, they gave me a side of chili sauce. Which means, they keep lunch specials ready to go. While we don't order Chinese food often, all The other places in the area that we've tried have always been let downs. MoyLee seems to be our go-to staple. The portions are enough for 2 people to share one dish and still have left overs. My only complaint is if you order moo shu they only give you 4 pancakes and a dollop of plum sauce. We ordered carry out from Moy Lee last night. Our friend hadn't had it for sometime and was really looking forward to a good Chinese dinner. Unfortunately we picked Moy Lee. The only item that was good were the egg rolls. The steak kow was terrible...very large pieces of steak that were so tough you couldn't cut it. Sauce was thin and had no taste. The chicken teriyaki was passable but the fried rice was awful. Had no taste and was dry. The sweet and sour fish wasn't bad but the sweet and sour sauce was very thin. All in all, it was an unpleasant experience. And our friend treated which made it worse especially for him. And this whole meal cost over $60.00. What happened to this place? It used to be pretty good. Obviously, we should have ordered from Mee Mah. Don't bother spending your money at Moy Lee. read more

Growing up Japanese American in Chicago means that you grew up eating Cantonese Chinese food. In fact, all Chinese food was only Cantonese until the first Szechwan places started turning up in the early 70s. Sadly, most of the neighborhood Cantonese restaurants are gone, replaced by chain storefront ones that are scary at best. The gold standard for Chinese Restaurants back in the day was New Wilson Village, which, by the way, was owned by the guys who opened and run Bob Chinn's Crab House. Moy Lee was a great nice discovery a few years ago. And tell all of my Sansei (third generation) friends about it and we all end up going there. You can find everything from chow mien with pan fried noodles, to beef and pea pods to sweet and sour chicken to shrimp in lobster sauce. So, if you want to have real Chinese Cantonese food go to Moy Lee. Oh, and it's not in Chinatown, it's tucked away on Milwaukee Ave. north of Foster on the northwest side of the city. No wonder this wasn't on our radar for years. read more

I went in close to closing time the other night and ordered both my "go to" items, the egg rolls and BBQ Pork fried rice. Within no time both items were perfectly packaged up to go. Got the items home and both were hot and delicious. The egg rolls are twice as large as all others in the neighborhood, and most importantly twice as good. Noticed that the orange sauce changed a bit, but it was sweet, delicious and just as good as before. The BBQ Pork fried rice was hot and delicious. It definitely hit the spot. I won't blame the restaurant for the fortune cookie not having a fortune in it. Never heard that it meant bad luck or anything. Our usual spot wasn't open on New Years Day so we got delivery from Moy Lee. There were some hits and some misses but overall we liked it. I really liked the egg rolls and potstickers. I really wanted huge doughy potstickers and that's exactly what they were. The egg foo young and fried rice were also really good. The Moy's special was *not* special and I wouldn't recommend it. What happened to this place? I have eaten here pretty much my whole life (nearly 30 years) It was not only my favorite Chinese restaurant, but my favorite restaurant over all until well into my high school years. The past 2-3 years I havnt been ordering out due to financial reasons, and when I do its nearby for pickup. I have eaten here in that time, but do not remember how long ago Well we decided to order Moy Lee's, I don't know when it went bad, but sadly we probably never will again. Pros- Great quality (not flavor) beef used. Better than I have ever had in Chinese cooking. Order was correct and on time Con- Pot sticker meat was all cartilage in the two I attempted to eat. Crab ragoon is different, and not for the better. Fried rice is not good. There is no other way to put this. ( and I do not discriminate in my fried rice color. The flavor is just bad!) Moy Special has a different flavor and color. I have gotten this dish every time I've gone/ ordered for probably 15 years. Trust me it is different. Chicken seems to be white breast meat, but I managed to bite down on a piece of bone? Pan fried noodles were "over fried" Other main courses just were not that great tasting New owners? Cooks? Ya, so I'm really gonna have to figure out a way to make up for suggesting this place to the hubs for takeout... We ordered the crab rangoon, beef fried rice, and sesame chicken. Overall I'd say my crab rangoon and fried rice were tolerable. The crab rangoon was a bit off, and the beef in my fried rice was rubbery. Although this is the closest Chinese place to home, I didn't see myself wanting to go there again. The hub's sesame chicken was another story. Completely overcooked and inedible. He gave up after a few pieces and just rocked my fried rice. We contemplated giving the sesame chicken to my dad since he'll eat anything, but we knew even he wouldn't be able to stomach it (and it would be even worse after being reheated). With two mehs and one dud, we've crossed this place off the go-to list. read more
