We did the lower New River trip and the staff was great. I called the night before shortly before closing and lady was so kind and set us up for a trip in the morning before we headed home. Our guides were great. The river was low but they were great. My parents don't move well and we were running behind and they were so patient with us. Thank you for a great experience before we headed home.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND using this company. I am so happy that we used them for our second Gauley adventure. My wife and I were just blown away by this company. Here's the 411: Small family owned business. Their whole set up is quality and friendliness. The positive reviews that you read on them are true. They hire quality guides that know the river well, treat you like family, and help you have a great adventure (and keep you safe). I've been to other (bigger) rafting outfitters that herd you like cattle. We really got the personal touch with Cantrell's. We will definitely be using them again next year when we come back for Gauley. Their restaurant/bar is also top notch with great atmosphere and a really good menu. One of the better burgers that I've had in a long time...

This is my 2nd night camping here and I would do it again. 1) affordable 2) clean (bathrooms are impeccable) 3) food was good (I had the large sweet potato fries with honey mustard dressing), I ate them all before I thought to take a pic 4) family owned business, they're knowledgeable, hospitable, thorough and caring: hosting a fund raiser for Secret Sandwich Society this weekend 5) close to A LOT of good stuff: New River Gorge and bridge, trails, Beckley 6) all the toys you need to go on the river

We had a great experience at Cantrell's ultimate rafting- I wanna give a shout out to our river guide his name was Gene. We felt safe with his guidance. And they were several of the other lively guides such as Jack and then their leader Stacey. We enjoyed the live music at the facility which lasted from 7:30 to 9:30 on Saturday night- the music was very good. We stayed in one of their Amish cabins though lacking insulation it was still cold with the air conditioner and there were plenty of electric outlets as well. However, they had sleeping mats that were sort of a bunk situation but they seem very uncomfortable I would avoid- the actual beds were fine. The bathrooms are outside in a building with showers- it had a parent trap/camp Walden vibes. Get your Annie James and Hallie Parker experience! Seriously though, thank you to Stacey, Gene, and our bartender Cassie!!

Our family from Texas took a road trip and the highlight was to raft the New River. We chose Cantrell for their good prices and it is family owned. We did the double run on the new river. This is an adventurous river but always felt safe. The guides knew the river so well and gave us quite the experience! Our guide was Ian and he was kind, safety conscious, and made sure we wouldn't forget our day. We river surfed, we jumped off rocks! And you will have a good chance of coming out of this raft! Part of the fun. Just listen to the guides- we never felt unsafe, but left feeling like adventurers with stories to tell! I highly recommend the double run if you have all day. The lunch was very good. Even though you do the same river and rapids twice- they felt new again as they recognize you've been once and do things a little different. I can't say enough good things about this company and this trip.

What a great way to spend a summer day. This is a rafting review, we only came up for the day, but…read morewe are already talking about next year and doing a two day visit and double our rafting fun. We picked the Lower New River, a full day adventure. We kicked off a little bit before 9 and had a quick equipment assignment and then climbed aboard a well seasoned bus. Its a bus and it served its purpose. During the ride we got a basic but funny safety briefing. You can tell these guys love their job and enjoy making life fun. After about a 25 minute ride, we arrived at the departure spot and got assigned a raft. We are a family of 4 so they assigned two more people to our raft and our guide, Jackson was phenomenal! Seriously, Jackson is so chill and personable, we could have just hung out and listened to his adventures in life. He did a really great job making everyone feel welcomed, valued and appreciated. For me, I know I would have been barking rules at our novice tubers, but he just gave specific instructions on what to expect, what to do if the 'in case' happens, and provided assurance that he would protect everyone. He also provided fun little facts about the river and history of the Gorge. We saw class II to class IV rapids and there were some intense moments. It took me a couple rapids to figure out that Jackson would strategically place our boat in the best part of the rapids for maximum effect, which made this ride so memorable. Despite sometimes facing a wall of water, we always felt in control and hearing Jackson hooting and hollering like a kid gave the assurance and reminder that this is 100% fun adrenaline. The river water was cool and refreshing, not shockingly cold in July and the levels were high so we had a good time. We did stop half way down for a lunch which consisted of either meat/cheese sandwiches or PB sandwiches, potato salad, a pasta salad, watermelon, chips & salsa, and a desert. It was good and sustained everyone. The second half of the day the river was even better than the first half. At the end, we got picked up by the bus with an even shorter ride back to AOTG. They provided a couple coolers of ice cold water, soda, and gatorade for the ride back. Once back we showered, changed and checked out the photos of our trip. This was an 11 out of 10 experience for my family and like I said, we are already planning on coming back for a 2 day trip.

Partly because there were no four seasons in the area (mostly joking) but also because we were in WeSt vIrGiNiA and wanted to get in touch with NaTuRe we decided to go outside of our cocmfort zone and picked some closer to nature options. This was the second. We went with Kaymoor at Adventures on the Gorge. Thjey have the full scale between literal camping and hotel-like, I believe we chose the most hotel-like option. I wanted to do the glamping but there were none available about a month before our trip when I finally got my shit together to book shit. Check in was super easy. We were given a key and a treasure map of how to get to our "cabin" which was easy to drive to. It is a legit cabin in the woods but will all amenities one would expect staying in the a hotel. Great bathroom and shower with a ton of towels, bedroom and separate lounge room that included a mini fridge. TV, wifi, climate control. There was even a cute little porch with chairs in the literal woods. It is so cool. AC worked great. The shower was great. They provided more towels than I'm used to getting at hotels. The bed was SUPER COMFY. I literally don't have enough good things to say about this place. Such a good choice.

Some people eat snakes and bugs. I eat snickers and bananas. But there was one thing I always wanted to try - white water rafting - just like my girl Meryl Streep in "The River Wild" (sans Kevin Bacon trying to kill me). I took a chance and decided that the rafting trip was for me when I had the option during college orientation. I stepped aboard a large raft with about 7 other freshmen newbies and our guide. The guide was very outdoorsy and informative when it came to teaching us how to navigate the rapids safely while also giving us a nature tour of the area. "See that? That's the New River Gorge Bridge. People commit suicide there all the time." *click goes the camera* Making our way down the river was beautiful yet horrifying. I felt like a bipolar woman going through "the change." One second I'd be enjoying the sights and sounds of nature and by the next I would be screaming bloody murder and accusing the guide of trying to kill me. Not.Dramatic.At.All. Along the voyage you're allowed to jump out of the raft and take a dip in the river - not me though, I don't do wet. As the trip continues you face down a variety of rapids and try your best to stay afloat. And of course stay aboard the raft. Not my friend Angie though, she went right overboard. I could have tried to save her, but I wasn't letting go of my paddle nor the safety of my flotation device. Hey... at least she had a life preserver ;( By the end of the day I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I was thrilled my college gave me the chance to do this. The rapids are fun, the guides are awesome, the lunch back at the campsite is good, and there are even photos to buy as they have photographers snapping shots at some of the rapids. I'd share my photo with you but this trip was during the days when the doctor said I "had a bit of a weight problem." And nobody wants to see Keiko the Killer Whale wearing a life vest while holding a paddle, right? *20 minutes after posting this review, Mexican Yelper Nadya R sent me a link to photobucket of an image she mobile uploaded from my bedroom without my knowledge...CREEP...enjoy!* http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d18/misschapis/IMG00624.jpg
