Metropolis Ballroom - Ceremony

Metropolis Ballroom

I have been to the Metropolis Ballroom for events before, but I was left a little underwhelmed this…read moretime. I was excited to support the local high school's madrigal performance--they were a 5 star act--but the supporting dinner around it was not what I imagined from the Metropolis. 1st service was mulled cider and 2 people at our table were missed so my boyfriend had to flag someone down to get the last 2 mugs filled. (The cider itself was delicious!) The tomato soup and bread course was good, although the soups were served at the same table at varying temperatures. I ordered the chicken for our party of 4 and that was pretty good. I did hear a high school student at the head table ask his parents if they could stop at Culver's on the way home because his chicken was not cooked. The dessert was pretty good, although I do not remember what it is by now. The soft drinks were grab and go cans laid out on the bar over ice. I had no problem with that choice, it was just a little unclear at first if the cans were included with our ticket or not. The coat check staff was quick and efficient. As someone who is not married yet, I had always thought about the Metropolis Ballroom as a possible venue, but after my latest experience, I would probably not consider them in the future.

I cannot begin to describe how happy we were with Metropolis Ballroom for our wedding. The venue…read moreitself was absolutely beautiful and it fit our style perfectly. We had 140 guests, but the venue definitely could have fit more! We had our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in the same place which was so nice that our guests did not need to travel! The bridal suite and grooms room were both at the venue as well which was so convenient! What really set this venue apart from the others was the team. Rachel Herrera was our Event Producer and she was absolutely amazing. From start to finish she was great to work with! We booked our venue a year out and she was extremely organized, responsive with her email replies, accommodating, kind, and knowledgeable. She provided great insight and suggestions to help ensure our day was as successful and wonderful as it was. On the night of our wedding, Rachel was onsite and as supportive as ever! She also had a Banquet Captain, Mauricio, who was fantastic to work with. Guests are still raving about how great the food was. We were so pleased with the presentation and the quality of the food! We could not be happier with Metropolis and the team that helped create and execute our wedding. We are forever grateful and we would highly recommend this venue and their team to anyone!

Sky Zone Trampoline Park - Obstacle course fun

Sky Zone Trampoline Park

I was super excited when SkyZone opened up in Deerfield last summer. This place is a great way for…read morekids to get rid of energy during extra cold, rainy or hot days. I bought a membership for 2 of my kids last August and decided if they came once a month it would be worth the price. After i bought it we went into a gorgeous busy fall and didn't make it back until an especially cold Chicago winter rolled in come January. My 7th grader doesn't seem to have much interest in going and when he does come with friends loses interest pretty fast so i dropped my membership for him and bought an annual membership for my 4th grader which comes with 1 free guest past each month. Today my son had 2 friends over and were getting sick of video games so I suggested we make good use of our annual membership and head here. My son was covered by the annual membership and we used a guest pass for one friend. And then I paid $30 for the other friend. It's hard to find an activity that lasts a few hours for 3 boys for $30 so well it IMO. Plus the cost of dippin dots of course. My son and his friends joined the other 200 kids jumping around this place and I wondered what type of germs they were picking up, but at least it's relatively new (aka: clean) and probably not much worse than what they pick up at school these days. They were also super excited to run into some friends from school to hang out with as well. They did say they like the Vernon Hills location better since it's a little bigger, but there's plenty of fun here and it's location is way more convenient to my house. Meanwhile, i got plenty of work done at one of their works desks so it was a win win for all!

Because the park was closing within that time frame, they refused to sell regular admission and would only sell me a membership. Imagine turning away customers who are literally standing there ready to spend money. No partial ticket option, no common sense, just "buy a membership or leave." So we left. If your goal is to repel customers and send them to competitors, this policy is working perfectly.

Saranello's - penne with pomodoro sauce, and broccoli, mushroom, and spinach

First off, it's hard to go wrong at any Melman restaurant, and Saranello's is no exception!…read moreWe were greeted promptly and professionally at the host stand. I noticed a portrait on the wall next to the stand and inquired who it was. Her name was Sara Rowe, and it's a loving memorial to a long time Melman partner. Melman combined her first name, Sara, with a classic Italian suffix to create the name "Saranello's". It's an upscale restaurant with upscale food. But at a mid-scale price point, Thanks for that! The food: I had the baked eggplant parm, since I'm from Chicago. You know what I mean if you're local. And it's my new benchmark. Well done! The wife had the braised short rib ravioli. It's now her desert island dish. It's a very very nice space. And our server knew the menu backwards and forwards. Anyone who's had the grated "parmesan" in the green can will appreciate the genuine Parmiggiano Reggiano they serve here. Freshly grated with no cellulose, and that beautiful tang! With homemade tiramisu for dessert, and a glass of wine, the tab was about $75, but you get what you pay for, and you'll get what you're paying for here!

We were there for a family event so we had a fixed menu. Of the items, the Caesar salad was actually my favorite! It was light with a delicious drizzled dressing and flakes of Parmesan cheese. (My husband normally does not like Caesar salad but we loved this fancy one). Caesar salad--5/5 Chicken limone--3/5 not super flavorful Roasted Atlantic salmon--3/5 Pesto fusilli with chicken -3/5 Rigatoni with vodka sauce - 3/5 heavy but I may just not be a fan of vodka sauce Chocolate truffle cake - 4/5 (my husband liked it, very chocolatey) Apple crostata was good -5/5 I liked the texture
