Dad walking me down the aisle.....!

Choosing a wedding venue for me was a no-brainer. I've never fantasized about my wedding like most girls, but I always had a feeling that this would be a great spot to get married. When the question was popped and we had to figure out where to go, this was at the top of our list. It's historical, cozy, intimate, and has plenty of areas to be outdoors. A fall wedding in a gazebo in the forest, surrounded by colorful leaves? PERFECT. Carol, the coordinator at Redfield, worked with us well. We never had a communication problem with her and she was friendly and accommodating. The venue also worked really well with our caterer (which was one of the recommended caterers from the Grove) so we had no worries about things falling into place. The building itself is gorgeous: a large great room, a room in the middle for buffets/whatnot, a back room with a great view of the yard, a kitchen that is basically hidden out of view, a neat little loft, a couple rooms upstairs, and separate groom and bridal suites. I LOVED my bridal suite. There was a cute desk, some seating, my own bathroom, and a window with an escape route if I didn't feel like getting married... We had our ceremony outdoors in the gazebo, with about 100 chairs set up for the guests. The aisle was a long, winding path through the trees towards the gazebo. Afterwards, everyone mingled on patio of the house for drinks while we took photos in the new pavilion. (I have to note, the pavilion was not yet built when we reserved the place, and we were really excited to have it available for our wedding!) We squeezed about 80 guests into two rooms and the loft of the house for the dinner. The rest of the night was in the pavilion, dancing. All of our guests were raving about what a great place we had picked! Everyone enjoyed using all the spaces that were available, as well as being able to roam around the grounds. I couldn't have asked for a better place for our wedding. Just writing this post makes me want to go back. I am taking away a star because at the end of the night, some groundskeeper person kept trying to shut the wedding down before our designated end time. We only had a seven-hour block for the wedding + dinner so we wanted to use every moment we had! Music being turned down early and lights being shut off were not cool. This, however, was the only downside to this place. One of my friends is getting married here later this year (on the exact date I would have wanted if we choose a winter wedding). I have no idea if I will be attending the wedding, but I'm excited to accompany her on trips to the Grove to re-live my wedding memories.

The Grove Redfield Estate is a beautiful, photogenic venue for your wedding. The rental includes the pavilion where we were married in front of the fireplace. Also included are the gazebo, and the Redfield Estate itself, where we hosted our reception. The Redfield Estate had just been refreshed, and looked amazing. On the day of the event, every room of the Redfield Estate was staged and ready for guests. We had our own room upstairs to get ready in, with a bathroom just outside the door. The booking process was pleasant, efficient, and professional. Communication with the venue representative, and we dealt only with one delightful person, was always quick and friendly. The venue includes tables and chairs, and a complete kitchen for your caterer. For modest additional charges, you can run the gorgeous fireplaces. Up to four outdoor heaters are also available for additional charges. The venue provides a very pleasant and helpful person to patrol the grounds during your event, keeping the general public out. There is always someone present to deal with any issues that may come up on the day of your event. On our special day, everything was perfect. Part of the rental includes a reasonable deposit to cover the unlikely event of any damage to the venue. Our deposit was refunded, with expected deductions for the fireplaces, and the heaters we requested, the very next work day after our event. I didn't have to follow up with them, except to offer my profuse appreciation. The Grove Redfield Estate offers you lists of vendors for every facet of your wedding. These references are invaluable. From those lists, we assembled a dream team of caterer, florist, baker, and photographer. They had all worked together before at the venue, and everything was harmonious on the big day. The value of these relationships can not be overstated. When you are planning your wedding, and you are looking for vendors, it is amazing to have a venue provide you a list of choices that have already proven themselves, and that know the venue. When we received our photos, the venue proved to be the perfect setting and backdrop for us and our guests. I wholeheartedly, and enthusiastically recommend The Grove Redfield Estate for your own very special wedding.

My husband and I chose the Redfield Estate as our venue for both our wedding ceremony and dinner reception. We couldn't have chosen a better place! Carol and Deborah (rental coordinators) were very pleasant to work with. They were prompt with emails and regularly communicated with our vendors to ensure our day ran smoothly. Additionally, the venue itself is absolutely stunning! The 1920's architecture, coupled with the pristine landscaping and outdoor trails, added to the charm and romance of the venue. We couldn't have asked for a better team of people to work with or venue to hold our special day!

Open Area that is out of the rain for the reception or wedding area!

Apparently, the center hosts many performing arts programs that include dance, theater, music and more.  When we were viewing artwork of the exhibit, a friendly elderly actor of the center greeted us while taking a break on a comfy couch.  We could hear music rehearsal in the theatre when we passed by. They also have education programs, youth sports programs, a full-service fitness center, classes and lectures -- all kinds of activities that help enrich lives of residents of not just Winnetka, but of the broader North Shore. When I read their Yelp reviews, I learnt that the center is even a popular weddings and events venue!  It is truly a versatile community house! As a privately supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Community House is not funded through tax dollars.  It's good to know that donations are 100% tax deductible.

We had a tour scheduled with Sahra, but it was moved to a different time, which seemed like it may have been to accommodate another group. When we arrived, the front desk gentleman was very kind, but we ended up waiting about 20 minutes while Sahra continued speaking with the previous tour group. She clearly saw us waiting but didn't acknowledge us or apologized when she eventually came over. Once the tour finally started, it felt very rushed. The entire walkthrough lasted maybe 15-20 minutes, and there wasn't much opportunity to ask questions before she quickly moved on to the next area. At the end, I asked if she could send photos of the space set up for weddings so we could better visualize it decorated. Her response was, "I won't remember, just email me--I had three tours today." We were the third tour, which made the comment feel dismissive. What stood out even more was that the previous group had asked about placing a hold on the space and did not receive that same response. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. After touring around 20 venues, this was by far the most disappointing experience. As for the space itself, it felt very small and somewhat outdated. The bridal and groomsmen suites were essentially small conference rooms. In my opinion, the venue may be better suited for smaller events like a bridal or baby shower rather than a full wedding. Unfortunately, due to both the service and the space, I would not recommend spending your time touring here.

From the food to the room to the groom. The first thing that stood out was the service. The entire staff was friendly and helpful when we were checking in. We showed up a little early and the gentleman at the front made some calls and we were able to get into the room. Started off on the right foot. The room was cool. Clean. Well maintained but nothing extra. The photos are accurate. The restaurant/bar has a great breakfast menu. We got a breakfast burrito and it was delicious with hot and crispy potatoes. The best part about the Glen Club is the golfing option. We didnt get onto the course but my party got onto the range and hit some balls. At that point we decided to play best-ball scramble style. And realized that there were solo players behind us in carts. We let them play through and didn't see a single person until the final hole. During the time when there was nobody in front of us or behind us we were approached 3 more times by the marshal telling us that "people were calling the clubhouse and we needed to speed up." We then couldn't even tee off of another hole because one of the residents decided to have a prom party on the tee box and had hundreds of high schoolers take pictures on the tee box. Until the service gets better I cannot recommend this course. You would be better off playing at just about any other north side course or even a true muni. At greens prices over $200, it just doesn't make sense to have service like this.
