Please don't send anyone you love to this treatment center. This rehab center uses behavior modification which was popularized in the 70's and has been now been found to be ineffective in the modern era. It's essentially a light form of brainwashing and is part of the reason why from the outside looking in the people in Canyon Crossing can look like they are in an occult. If you see them out they don't make eye contact with other people and aren't allowed to socialize, I sent my daughter there several years ago and she was emotionally scarred from the insane level of control maintained by the owner's. If she saw her male bestfriend she wasn't allowed to acknowledge his existence they have an excessive amount of rules in order to change mindsets but that doesn't translate into normal life. They also do circles where other girls berate and shame each other if a rule is broken. I could go on and on, from silence bans, to 3 day service punishments, to being forced to wear derogatory signs around their necks. The lessons that they learn aren't applicable in the real world because life is so different in Canyon Crossing. These girls are sensitive and impressionable after coming off the streets but Canyon Crossing doesn't actually rehabilitate by teaching real life skills. Instead they use female empowerment as a catch all to endorse poor behavior but the graduates there aren't successful in life they're just sober but still lost. A true rehab helps people from being on the streets to a functional member of society. This one shows women how adaptable they are and does not actually address the trauma or mental health issues that are the cause of addiction which means that even if they do stay sober they still stay in the same immature mindset that they came in with. I plead with you to reconsider sending your children here so they don't end up like my daughter or any of her "friends" that went through Canyon Crossing. I know it's a late review but I had to do my own work to process my shame from putting someone I loved in this treatment center. read more

If you care about your loved one, I would not send them here. The staff belittles, steals, lies and makes you feel like you're beneath them. They expect you to clean their facility, make dinner for staff and other clients, deliver confrontations to eachother during group sessions with no discussion on the issue, no in person medical appts. All medical appointments are via Zoom with a nurse practitioner psyche and medical. It takes 5-7 days to get meds and there is No privacy during medical or psyche. I actually had 3+ staff member (not nurses) listening in on my private medical information during my appt. They promote self care however, they do not allow make up during meetings and cannot even cut your hair. It is my understanding that the facility helped guide my spouse in destroying my life. Instructing him to put a restraining order on me so I could not go back home, empty my back accounts and cut off my cel phone. They tell you that you can leave at any time however if you leave against medical advise they will keep your belongings, i.e., cel, credit cards, money, etc. They brainwash your family into thinking there is no other way for you to get treatment and better. The weekend excursions are a joke unless you like packing into a full van for 1.5 hours one way to enjoy 20 min of outdoor time. They play games with you when you need to pay bills or other important adult tasks you need to do. The BHT in circle offices answer for everything is not today, maybe tomorrow and to pray on it. Her and the patient liason are snakes in the grass. They talk about clients. The patient liason actually made a comment to me that another clients brain's not fully developed SMH. I heard a therapist and house manager comment when we were going to get a new intake that they should get a bonus. I could go on and on. Bottom line is this place is not professional or worth the money. Their integrity and grace motto is BS. read more

Canyon is a residential treatment facility for addiction and co-occurring disorders, I.e. mental health issues. Our daughter was there for a year, and recently graduated. She entered addicted to several substances, and with declining mental and physical health. She is now sober, proud of herself (rightly so), and well equipped to stay healthy in mind & body. The program is demanding and strict, and at the same time family focused and compassionate. We had tried other in-patient and out-patient programs, counseling, meds, groups, all kinds of things, but Canyon Crossing worked. They take the time to treat the whole person ... body, brain, spirit, behaviors, gifts and failings ... and keep the family in the loop throughout the long process. We parents got great support also - a parent group, family workshop, and info on how we can cut out enabling behavior. Ask for the scholarship! I could write a novel about how awful the people behind this place are but I just don't care enough anymore. The one thing I will tell all of the folks/parents currently there and hopefully anyone reading this is don't pay them. Just ask for a scholarship. Several girls are on them after families can't afford to pay anymore and the insurance companies still will. Once they stop, the girls get a job. I found out in a very hard and sickening way, which inspired me to leave this here. I also found out that some parents are paying for over a year's stay and have had to change their lives to afford it. My heart goes out to all the lives affected by this - if they only knew. This rehab promotes "integrity and grace" as well as a "safe" environment to get sober.... that was not my experience, and frankly this post is long overdue. I was a client at Canyon Crossing Recovery for 5 months in 2016, and was kicked out because I was self harming. The owners gave my dad a few hours notice to pick me up, otherwise they were going to kick me to the streets in the middle of fall with my belongings. For my entire stay, I experienced months of ill-treatment and discrimination, and I still have trauma from that place. Most of the house leaders were verbally and psychologically abusive towards me. As punishments, I was not allowed to wear makeup, do my hair, shave my body, I was only allowed to wear baggy clothes, I had to wear a sign around my neck saying "boy ban" for simply WAVING at a boy, was not allowed to talk to my ONLY friend there, and was put on "silence ban" for days at a time... if I spoke a single word they would add another 24 hours, and to top it off, my weekly phone calls to my parents were monitored so I couldnt even tell them of the malpractice out of fear of retaliation by the staff. There were repercussions for everything. My fellow peers would gang up on me constantly, and the house managers allowed it. But then again, it was the house leaders that would also humiliate and embarass me in front of my peers. 3x a week they have these groups called "Circle" where I was the target of criticism by my housemates nearly every meeting. I couldnt even defend myself at all because they would always shut me down. There are so many nights I hid in the bathroom, burned/punched myself, and cried because I thought it would never end.... Canyon Crossing Recovery was the WORST first experience with sobriety I ever could've imagined. It has taken me years to work through the trauma and regain my voice. I hope anybody else who has experienced injustice speaks up, and sooner than I did. I sincerely hope this corrupt rehabilitation center gets exposed so that nobody else will have to experience this mistreatment by the hands of people who are supposed to help you. read more

Your going to need therapy for the therapy you receive here. No real doctors or clinicians. No one licensed at least. Confrontational based programming. Mental and verbal abuse in a charade called circle where women are pitted against each other under the guise of accountability. ​​costs thousands to go there and the women are treated like trash. If someone tries to speak out or leave they get alienated away from their families because the parents are told they are enabling and will kill their child if they help. The women walking with integrity are the ones who have left here and didnt let this awful experience turn into an even worse one. Sadly many of the women have died from continued drug use a a result of broken treatment centers just like this. The owners are taking advantage of desperate and helpless parents trying to find help for their loved ones and are being charged handsomely at that. Anywhere else. Find anywhere else for the women you love you very well might save their life by not sending them here. read more

How this absolutely horrific business is still in operation is beyond me. If you are considering this place for yourself or a loved one, keep looking. If my story is not enough to deter you, please look through the many other low ratings, INCLUDING the filtered ones, because I promise you the Bachmans have worked very hard to bury them. Most of the good reviews here were made by either staff members or women that were in their care at the time of the review. Erin and her husband Justin do not care about you, your families, your loved ones. They care about lining their pockets. I will never forget when Erin yelled at all of us one night "we're not in this for the money, we're in this because we care!" waving her little Rolex heavy wrist around, to show up less than a week later with hubby in their matching, completely customized, Denalis. Not in it for the money? Sure. We were forced to watch movies with scenes of people pressing a heroin needle into their arms and overdosing. No regard for PTSD whatsoever. No one was allowed to get up even to pee. No one was allowed to skip those scenes. And no one was allowed to sleep until the movie was over. We had been up since 5 am and the movie finished around 2 am that night. One girl was so desperate to leave Canyon she didn't even put shoes on. Left all of her belongings, which staff made absolutely no effort to return to her (which was pretty much the standard when someone would leave or get kicked out), her clothes were picked through, I took the shoes she left as my only pair were falling apart and staff made me throw them away. They were brand new. She was one of about 20 women to leave or get kicked out in the 4 months I was there. When I came in I suffered from hallucinatory flashbacks that were triggered by panic attacks. The only way I could calm myself down and get back to reality was by physical touch. One day staff saw me run and jump to give my friend a hug, pulled me aside, and told me I was "too affectionate" and put me on a complete and total touching ban for 3 weeks. I was denied any form of human contact (yes, even handshakes and high fives) for the entire time. Scientific studies have shown that it is DETRIMENTAL for human beings to go without touch for that long. They did not care. They told me I needed to learn how to soothe myself. My panic attacks got worse. And the friend I hugged? She is dead. She overdosed after 13 months at Canyon Crossing. Erin Bachman hosted her memorial service. I was allowed to speak to my family once a week. Those phone calls were completely monitored by staff for over a month. It was supposed to be a week but I was told I could not be trusted alone talking to my parents until I "stopped crying every time you hear their voices". I cut myself for the first time in over a year at this facility. I stopped eating. I was told I was doing both things for attention. One time I left my empty laundry basket on top of the drier while waiting for my clothes and had to pull a "consequence" from the "consequence jar". "Consequences" were punishments, often cruel and unusual, mostly in the form of public shaming or some sort of deprivation. The consequence I pulled that time was for the girls to dress me however they wanted, including makeup, for the largest meeting in town (about 1-200 people). They put me in absolutely absurd clothing and made sure to point me out so that everyone at the meeting would notice and laugh at me. Other consequences included scrubbing the outdoor trash cans, talking bans (no talking whatsoever ranging from 24 hours to multiple months), sleeping in the living room, and one time taking away the heat in the cold mountain fall. Thankfully when that last one happened, one of the girls managed to contact her parents and told them. They immediately pulled her out and the heat was turned back on. And let's not forget Rex Smyly. How could I forget this absolutely terrifying man. He loved to share the story about pulling a gun on his pregnant (now ex) wife. Or the time he came to at the playboy mansion covered in blood and holding a knife. Now don't worry, he didn't hurt anyone, he was actually trying to save them. But Dr. Smyly has hurt so many people, he immediately thought that he had killed someone. He would make us recount our worst traumas (usually abuse) over and over and then throw them in our faces, going so far as to tell one girl "you think your boyfriend wasn't listening while you were being r*ped? I promise you he was getting off on it." Another time he stated "I would rather be r*ped than go to prison" in a room full of women who had all but one been r*ped." It's a modern day Synanon. Ever been to circle? Look it up to find out about group truth telling sessions and other oddly familiar things Also, replying to a review on Yelp neither confirming nor denying their stay at Canyon and then saying "We would have appreciated you reviewing our business sooner then 4 years later as that feedback could have helped us with the issues you speak of." That kind of confirms it And That's gaslighting. Lots of this on google reviews. Seeing some negative reviews from the past couple years, and a couple from parents, got me thinking some of this stuff still happens. My experience, part of it in 2nd person: Imagine going to rehab for the first time, you probably don't know much about honesty or maybe life in general, where you will have to start becoming a different person, whether you like it or are comfortable with it or not. If you're not uncomfortable, that can be arranged. Screw your abandonment issues you probably have, you'll get sent to a sober stranger of their choice's house for three days with some clothes if you mess up or break a rule badly enough. Probably a rule you've been used to breaking your entire life and are suddenly expected to obey immediately. If you're lucky they won't tell your parents and pay for that three day stay themselves so that your parents won't find out! Then hold that over your head. I think that's lying by omission? Manipulation? Anyways, if you mess up real bad you'll get to act like you're about to get kicked out and be on packed bags, which means you live from your suitcase. And then when you get really mad and tired of the abuse after Justin tells you in front of everyone in circle that your parents can't afford them, enough to accidentally, in a rage, put your hands on your friend's shoulders, you'll get kicked out and sent to a psych hospital, abandoned again. I did that. I'll admit that. And yeah, I did get into a rehab romance because my self worth depended on being in a "relationship" and being liked and yes I did relapse multiple times and yes I was a mess, but if you think putting me on silence so I couldn't talk without being reprimanded, banning me from talking to most of the other clients/friends I lived and shared a toilet with, making me stand up (repeat after me style) and telling someone I didn't love them in front of all the girls, sending me away to go talk about the steps with a stranger when I needed to belong like most addicts want and need, telling me my parents couldn't afford you, and making me live from my suitcase would make me want to somehow grow up or change into a woman of integrity and grace, you're sadly mistaken. Having Rex tell me to go out and drink vodka while I stood in the doorway of IOP and everyone in it was really quite an experience. If it was sarcasm, I heard that is a really good thing to use on addicts in need of help. I use it here for affect and to make light of something that happened to me. Congrats if this place was a success for you, congrats if you were able to do well here as some of my dear friends have. Some have been sober ever since. I'm thankful for the art therapy I received at Canyon from Marie (I think it was Marie), I'm thankful for Heather, and i'm thankful for the people I met, I'm thankful for getting kicked out. I'm thankful they let me go to physical therapy while I was there. Thanks to the house managers Milena and Katie for picking me up and then taking me to Ross so you guys could shop while everyone else looked for jobs or went on coffee dates or walked to meetings. Really showed me nothing really mattered and about being two faced. Thanks to Kath for being amazing and to Jenna for finally coming forward in a previous review. You were a hell of a house manager. Congrats if Canyon wasn't for you and you learned and grew from your time at Canyon. Congrats if you made it. You can still make it even if you didn't at this place. As a client at canyon crossings recovery I am saddened by some of the reviews on here. I have had a different experience and have made a stable foundation for my recovery. First, the staff at Canyon will go to the ends of the earth for each and every client. What a lot of people miss is the hours of support for clients and their families before they even arrive. My personal story includes my mom, whom was in a lot of pain and living in fear for my while I was out, talking to the owners and they provided her with the support and gave suggestions for months prior to me arriving. That doesn't happen at many places. All the staff, including the owners and therapists are available at all hours for clients needing to talk or needing help. Not to mention all staff has gone through the same things as the clients and are able to relate there is never any judgement or shaming. I have done some intense therapy and challenges and I had sat with all the women in the community in circle and had my negative behaviors pointed out to me, these things have saved my life. I am not a therapist and sure there are things I don't understand at first but I have been taught to let go and take in what I can and use what I am able to from everything in life and in the end I understand what and why things needed to be done. My heart is heavy when I hear people say the a young woman passed away while here. She passed away nearly a year after completing Canyon. I personally knew her and I know that the time she spent her was the happiest and most peaceful time of her adult life. She went through the main house, graduated and went through the alumni program. I also know the hours, the time spent around the clock, the love and support the staff and community put into helping her. The lives of the staff that was here during that time has forever been changed. When I read reviews on here that mentioned this I was heartbroken. There is an important thing to remember here- addiction. Clients are alcoholics and addicts and a lot are chronic relapsers.Addiction is a powerful, baffling and is different in each person. There are those who are unable to grasp the change and stay sober. No amount of help or love will keep them away from using - and Canyon did everything possible to help her just as they do for ALL their clients. I would recommit Canyon Crossings to anyone needing help and wanting to have a life of serenity. I graduated and am living in alumni. All the staff is available to talk and willing to guide me in this transition. Today I have over 10 months, I have love for myself and others, I have a community and I am able to help others. I am going to be getting custody of my daughter!! None of this would have happened anywhere else. Canyon Crossing Recovery saved my life. read more

To this day, I have to constantly decide to forgive myself for my participation on what I know now was wrong. Coming up on 6 years clean and happily married with my second child on the way. But the memories of turning a blind eye to the abuse and even having a hand in it at times, will always be my life's biggest shame. Always in the back of my mind, wondering if those girls ever healed. If you're reading this, I'm sorry. You deserved a sisterhood and a safe space to grow and heal. Growing up in an abusive household, I learned how to survive. To give them just enough to prove my loyalty and shift the focus to someone else. I was a coward. I could blame CCR but I don't think it's all the things they did that keep me up at night. I think it's the things I did and didn't do. I'm almost 30 years old and I finally feel like I know what it means to be a woman. To have integrity and grace. And I did not practice those qualities when I was there. I wish you all peace and a lifelong sisterhood of women that will lift you up, protect you, and be there for you always. I was a client here. They taught about holding each other accountable but never taught how to be friends too. I couldn't trust a soul in there except one of the most awesome house managers Kirsten, who drove me out to the wilderness during a meeting one night because I was having a rough night and just let me catch my breathe. The owner of the place is mean, and would yell anytime she got the chance. Definitely not the type of woman I want to be like. They put you on "recovery week" when the houses "misbehave" and put you on an army-like tight schedule. Early bed, no TV. No group dinners, wicked early mornings. I barely got any sleep while I was here. The therapist heather was awesome though, kid and sweet, but the rest were kind of stand offish. They said my depression at the time was me trying to get attention. You never got alone time with your family on holidays and you could only choose either thanksgiving or Christmas but not both. It wasn't a spiritual journey back to finding yourself, or healing yourself, in my case from a loss of someone I was close to from suicide, it was like an army school. I felt alone here and ignored. I don't recommend sending your daughters or friends here, I just don't. If this type of though love works for you, then by all means this is the place you should go, but if you're looking for a place to heal, I advise you to find a different place. I'm so much better after getting out of this place an instead chose to live in a house for a couple months instead. I found myself, and healed and I'm doing great. About to go back to college. And if I had stayed there, I wouldn't have gotten any school work done to be able to go back to college because they never followed through on helping me get set up for school work. read more

I can't say enough great things about Erin,Justin and the entire staff Having a child who is an addict is one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. I am able to get thru it only thru the grace of god and the support of the angles at Canyon Crossing My family has been going thru this hell in our lives for over 2 years and this is the first time that I actually feel hope. While there are great facilities all over the country, everyone specializes in different forms of treatment. If you want real down to earth people who are loving and supportive look no further. The best part is that we have found that being supportive doesn't mean you give up yourself to your addict. Erin and her team focus just as much on the family as they do on the addict. Addiction is a family disease so you need to treat the family if you ever want to beat the disease. Erin is now part of our family not just because she is helping our daughter, but because she is helping my wife and I fix ourselves. She never tells you what you want to hear, she tells you what you NEED to hear. That is what makes her special. You may not always like it but you definitely need it if you want to really want a change. Thank you Erin. My wife and I love you and the canyon team more than you will ever know. I was a client at Canyon for seven months, and while I can attribute some of my growth from my time spent there I would never suggest this program to friends or family. Canyon is magnificent at utilizing emotional abuse as a form of recovery. During my initial interview with the owner, she spoke of 'Circle', which is 'an hour where our women can discuss what has happened during the day, and constructively help each other in areas we lack'. Circle turned out to be an hour-five hours (when certain members of the group would run away, and the rest would have to stay put in silence), finger-pointing and demeaning the other women we lived with. Looking at men for a prolonged period of time, which in Circle "prolonged" constituted as more than ten seconds, was enough for a half hour of verbal abuse. We were meant to wake at 5:00 AM every morning, even if Circle lasted until midnight. I we woke even a minute past 5:00, punishment would ensue. Our therapist never once, and I stress...NEVER ONCE asked me why I was in treatment. Our individual sessions lasted about ten minutes, and consisted of only the superficial questions like: "Do you feel the need to hurt yourself or others?". Our group sessions included lying in a body bag to induce guilt for our behavior, berating others for their tattoos and piercings (this particular girl later passed due to an overdose, almost a year into staying at CCR), and listening to our therapist discuss how his life was much harder than any of the women sitting in the room. The owner, while I believe her intentions are good, is not there for everyone. She chooses a select number of women in which she believes are "hopeless causes" and contributes her time towards them. If you cross her back in any way she will hold a grudge. She spread many hurtful rumors about me, and several others that I know of, throughout town. When I was in the Alumni Program (after successfully graduating from Canyon and a total of eight months of extensive treatment), I began searching for a place of my own without telling my owner and she immediately kicked me out of her program. I was homeless for about a week. I've seen many women go through Canyon and relapse, both within and outside of the house. Some of which, I am sad to say, have passed. Canyon has certainly taught me how to grow a thick skin, but I contribute my growth more to the support of my loving family than that of Canyon. After I was kicked out, Canyon called my parents and said I was doing drugs (which I was not sent to treatment for in the first place, and was absolutely not a truth) and asked my friends and community to stop speaking with me. After the owners kicked me out, and I'll remind you I was kicked out because I was looking for housing outside of treatment, I was left homeless with most of the community unable to speak with me. Seven month spent within the Canyon household and I was left high and dry, with no money, no friends, and completely sober. Several months later, I heard of Canyon's owner spreading rumors about me, trying to make an example. I had a job, friends, a boyfriend, I had my family back in my life, a house I was paying for on my own, and my owner still wanted to tell people I was toxic to the community. I've since left the state and am so grateful to be away from that environment. If you, or anyone you know is looking for treatment please do not send your child to Canyon. read more

I came to Prescott a hopeless alcoholic. I left behind an 18 month old and I was completely devastated when I got here. I refused to raise my daughter the way I was any longer so I took one last chance at recovery. At Canyon I saw a glimmer of hope because of the women around me. Staff and clients alike. It's like nothing I've ever experienced before and I've been to other treatment centers. They taught me how to live my life. They helped me learn how to be a woman of integrity. They helped me form a solid community of women in AA to support me after treatment. It was the hardest thing I've ever done but I wouldn't trade the experience I've had for anything. I was a client at Canyon Crossing for three weeks. It was supposed to be a step-down program, back to real life, after three months at an excellent inpatient rehab. However, my three weeks there set me back immensely (emotionally) and then left me stranded in Prescott with 30 bucks and a non-working iPhone. Sounds scary? It was terrifying, especially considering that my home is on the other side of the country and I was left by staff at the town square with no way to get home. On my first day, I didn't get my medication at all, apparently because I didn't ask for it. I was new and scared, and didn't know I had to ask to take my very important anxiety medications. I was checked in on an unmade bed downstairs and asked why I was so nervous and quiet. I tried to explain that this is just how I am. I have a severe anxiety disorder. Misinformation was given to my parents that I 'wanted to run away and work as a prostitute.' My poor father, who's in ill health, was told this information, when in fact, I was being harassed by a group of staff members and clients who asked me how I would survive if I left. (I wanted to leave at that point because I was scared.) They asked me if I would work as a prostitute if I left, since I had no money. I sadly replied that if I had to, to live, I would. This was horrifyingly mis-communicated to my parents. Talking on the phone to the staff psychiatrist, he insisted that I'm *lying*, it was BS, I do not have social anxiety at all, and just wanted to go get high. I was devastated and hung up on him. Asked by a client if I wanted to 'hit my knees', and pray, I quickly realized that explaining I'm an atheist/agnostic would not go over well. Our daily routine (aside from group and individual therapy which did not blow my mind, either) was to walk around with zero money and no cell phones, in groups but without staff members. We often stopped in at the local place that feeds the homeless ("for humility") but that was the only place we could get beverages or food if we hadn't had time to pack enough during the very rushed morning routine of so-called meditation, chores, and coming downstairs after the RA screamed upstairs "MEDS!" By the way, morning meditation, which I thought meant, well, meditation, as in Buddhist-style meditation or quiet contemplation and relaxation, was actually reading from the 12-step book right after waking up at 5:30, and reciting a worn and thoughtless version of a long passage about God, etc. We were expected to set up three "coffee dates" per day, by asking other women for their numbers after the two 12-step meeting per day, and then calling them and making a date to meet for coffee and chat about recovery. However, going on a coffee date is difficult when you have zero dollars and zero cents in your pocket. So, every coffee date, I would either with relief and embarrassment accept my date buying me a $3 latte, or slink over to the counter and ask for a free cup of water. Or drink nothing at all. Or get stood up. After 12-step meetings, at one particular location that we frequented, we were required to pick up other people's discarded cigarette butts from off the ground with our bare hands and throw them in the garbage can. The owner is a self-professed chain-smoker (hooray for recovery from addiction!) and on about my second day there, sat with me talking. Out of nowhere, she asked me, "So, what made you get breast implants?" I was embarrassed and completely caught off guard. I had never mentioned anything about that to her, and had not invited any comments about my body. All calls to my family members were monitored, which was *more* supervision than I'd had at inpatient rehab. The staff members almost all curse like sailors and 'vape' during circle and clients 'vaped' during group therapy. After I complained about this to my parents on the phone, suddenly the rule was changed, and so staff members now chewed tobacco instead, spitting the juice into an empty bottle while leading circle. And...this horror all culminated in me being asked to leave/wanting desperately to leave, having to leave behind half my belongings because I couldn't carry them all, and being dropped off in town with 30 bucks and a useless service-less cell phone. Can you imagine what I went through trying to get home to New York? What did they expect me to do?? I was visibly shaking as an RA dropped me off in town. I believe that my Higher Power has brought me to Canyon Crossing for my daughter's recovery. The knowledge and individualized treatment is extraordinary. The girls have support from day one and are transformed from within. The environment is so supportive and a special sisterhood is formed from their experience together. All I can say is "Buyer Beware!!!" I would say stay away at all costs. Based on my experience with Canyon Crossing and the profound unprofessionalism I experienced at the cowardly hands of the "professional" staff, none of who have a clinical license in psychotherapy. I believe that my 21 yo my daughter was brainwashed to believe that setting "boundaries" means walling off a parent completely. I have not spoken to her since Sept 2015 and it is now May 2016. The staff won't return my calls or emails, even after I am promised I will hear from them. Do not send your daughter, girlfriend, wife or partner there. I am a former Canyon Crossing Client. When I came to CCR I knew nothing about integrity, self-confidence, or self-respect. Let alone how to stay sober and build a new and healthy life for myself. CCR focused on all of these things. It wasn't easy going through the house, especially sense I was an adult who would rather act like a child avoiding responsibility and I was being taught how to be a responsible adult in 6 months. In the house I learned how to build and keep healthy relationships with my family and friends. I learned how to show up for a job and to show up for the women in the house with me. I learned how to build others up around me and in turn build myself up. I learned what the word integrity even meant and how to apply it in my life. The rules that are set in place at CCR are there to protect the woman as the start their journey in recovery, especially sense we come in broken, vulnerable and abused. You take drugs away from me, which is what I would normally cope with and I reach out for anything and everything to try and make myself feel better, which for most woman is relationships. Which is exactly why there is the "boy ban" rule, which means absolutely no contact or interaction with men. This rule is in place so that we can learn to validate ourselves. To be honest I did not follow this rule. I had an inappropriate relationship with a guy in another treatment facility. I got honest about what I was doing. I thought I would be discharged for my behavior sense this was not the first time I had broken the boy ban rule, but I wasn't. In fact the staff and the women in the CCR community showed me nothing but kindness and love. The staff helped me get down to the underlying reason behind me acting out in the first place. I did end up getting discharged a few months later because of my own actions. I was angry and toxic to the women around me. I freaked out at staff, and was later asked to leave. I was not kicked to the curb with my belongings, in fact Erin had made arrangements for me to go to another sober living, although I chose not to go right away I eventually did. I was given the tools to keep moving forward in my recovery thanks to CCR and its staff and thats what I have done. I owe a lot to Erin, Justin, the CCR staff and clients who were supportive, loving and compassionate with me throughout my stay at CCR and throughout my recovery to this day. My life would not be what it is today without the friendships and bonds that i have built. Today because of CCR I have 20 months sober, I have a good job, healthy relationships, and I am enrolled in school. In short I have a real future. I am forever grateful. read more

My daughter was a client at Canyon Crossing Recovery's transitional living program for over 6 months during 2014 after attending primary inpatient treatment for 3 months elsewhere. Prior to this, she had relapsed a number of times after attending a variety of treatment programs at nationally recognized facilities. Thanks to CCR, she achieved her longest period of sobriety and obtained her 1 year chip while in the CCR Alumni program - which is a step-down program that follows after graduation. Erin & Justin (co-owners), Dr. Smyly (clinical director) and the rest of the clinical staff are seasoned veterans in recovery treatment techniques, who use their skills to support each client's recovery journey through IOP and other clinical programs, while therapeutically challenging each to abandon the behaviors they have previously used to hide and perpetuate their disease while in active use. For instance, my daughter used to seriously overapply make-up to cover up her feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem as a result of her substance abuse. The CCR team helped her see how she was using this behavior to inappropriately compensate for these feelings. She abandoned the practice due to their guidance, support and encouragement. This is only one example of several behaviors that the clinical team identified and then applied therapeutic treatment to isolate and eliminate the behavior. I have personally visited all of CCR's facilities several times over the past year, and have gotten to know almost all of CCR's personnel. This is a dedicated team who has the treatment knowledge and passion for meeting the disease of substance abuse head-on. If your daughter is looking for a no rules, no accountability, no on-site management sketchy sober house that she can manipulate and get back to using or drinking - do not send your daughter here (yes, I'm sure you've probably participated in those fun "after-care" conversations at primary inpatient treatment centers - and believe me, every new person fresh out of an inpatient program needs a supported transitional program even though they may claim they don't....). If you are looking for an excellent transitional living program - please consider CCR. For those of you sponsoring a loved one, understand that during the first month or two after admission, you will likely hear tales of woe and hardship - since your loved one will be resistant to having her relapse-oriented personality traits and manipulative behaviors put under a microscope. I have met and observed first hand over 20 CCR clients who have journeyed through the initial few months of this process, and they emerge stronger and better prepared to live a life of sobriety. Several years ago I graduated from Canyon Crossing Recovery. When I arrived there, I was a scared nineteen year old who didn't know how to respect or love myself or others. The first thing that was taught is "love others before they can love themselves" and that's exactly what the women and the staff did. This program is rigorous and is meant for insanely strong women. Two years ago, I reached out to CCR for assistance. I had 2 girls that were on a scary path of self-destruction from their addictions. At first, only one was willing to go to treatment. Canyon Crossing was there for my family through the detox and the transition up to Prescott. My daughter felt very welcome and a part of the CCR family from the moment she got there. She learned & grew so much from the program, the 12 steps, the counseling, the other women, and the community. Yes there were rules, consequences, and chores. I believe these were very important in order to help the women to learn personal responsibility and give them the tools to rules & consequences in their everyday lives after treatment. A year later, my other daughter saw the wonderful life of sobriety her sister had, and she wanted to go through the program for herself. She has also turned her life around 100%. My fiancé is a client at CCR and it is obvious from her growth and continued sobriety that the process works. The staff (from ownership down) truly cares for each and every woman in the program. Addiction and personality issues are dealt with in a professional manner. The clinical staff, headed by Dr. Rex Smyly, does incredible work with all the women. From his weekly one on one meeting with every client to the "Circle" sessions, it is obvious that each and every client is held accountable for their behavior and actions. That, by the way, is how life works. Every lady I have spoken to, truly appreciates the work and efforts of Dr. Smyly and his staff. The rules and regulations are the same for every client - no favors are given, nor should they be. The women are given the tools to survive once they graduate from both the IOP and OP programs. Once they graduate, they have the opportunity to stay on as Alumni clients with supervision and guidance. For sure there are some clients who leave early - its hard work and it takes total commitment from the client to make the recovery complete. The work is tough to be sure - but who said that recovery was easy? Families are included in the process with weekly phone calls from staff. The calls detail both positive and negative issues that are being worked on. There are absolutely no secrets and family members are encouraged to play a part in the recovery of their loved one. From monthly visits to intensive Family Weekend programs, CCR strives to include parents, husbands, wives and children in the process. ​​ My daughter was a client and a successful graduate of CCR. She participated in the CCR program for 10 months, at which point I am proud to say, she truly earned her graduation certificate. She had been to many treatment centers all over the country including, inpatient, IOP, OP, sober houses (halfway, ¾ way) and nothing could keep her sober longer than 4-5 months. We were at the critical point of deciding where to place her after 2 months of primary treatment in Tennessee when we heard about Canyon Crossing from her therapist. It sounded like just the right fit for her - a place of transitional living for women only, that prided itself on helping chronic relapsers succeed. My husband and I got on the phone with Erin (owner), who happened to be at a convention in CA at the time, to ask her questions about her program. Erin took the time to talk to us, answering all of our questions thoroughly. I had never seen such a "hands-on" approach in all the places my daughter had attended! Erin spent at least 45 minutes on the phone with us that day, helping to ease my anxieties about her transition out of a primary setting into the "real" world. We talked about how important it was for my daughter to actually succeed at living sober, rather than giving up on herself, yet again. Erin really seemed to understand our concerns and gave us as much time as we needed that day and several times thereafter with any follow-up questions we had about her program. This showed me just how much she really cared for her clients and their families. We learned that Canyon Crossing was a place that would help teach her how to develop the life skills she needed to stay sober, how to develop a network of peers and learn how to engage with them in a healthy way and really become part of a supportive community. A place that would not give up on her - even if she failed...as long as she wanted to be sober! This was super important to me as a parent of a chronic relapser, to know that my daughter would not be tossed out of a program without a chance. This was the best decision we made. Did we have some bumps and curves along the road? Absolutely! But they were based on the decisions and actions that my daughter chose to engage in. Not because of the CCR staff. There were many times the staff could have given up on her and let her go...which she did try to do on more than one occasion - and many clients do at some point in their recovery journey. But the staff at CCR goes out to actually look for the clients that walk. I've witnessed it myself at functions, when a client walks out. But the staff does their best to go after them, and make sure they really want to leave, which oftentimes they don't - they're just scared or angry about something silly. There was one time when Erin was on vacation with her family and my daughter wanted to leave. Erin got on the phone with her and spent hours talking to her about the reality of her decision - weighing the pros and cons about leaving. After these discussions my daughter listened to Erin and actually chose herself to stay. I have never seen that sort of dedication from a staff member (let alone an owner) in a facility who took the time away from her family vacation to talk to a client in order to help them think through the impact of their decision. The difficult part of dealing with the disease of addiction is the lack of education we have as a nation. I am an RN and get very frustrated at how society just doesn't understand that addiction is a disease! Addiction thrives on manipulation and denial and will do just about anything to keep itself alive. What many parents/supporters don't understand is that they cannot protect their children/loved ones from this disease. It will absolutely crush them unless they learn how to live with it. I believe that the CCR clinical staff not only have the academic credentials and training, but also have the necessary sober life experience that enable them to successfully teach people new to recovery. Canyon Crossing can and will teach your loved one those life skills that actually do work - if your loved one really wants recovery and if they are willing to trust the staff at CCR. My daughter overcame many challenges presented to her at CCR and never gave up. It was one of her biggest goals she wanted to achieve - the certificate of completion from CCR. I am so proud of her for achieving that certificate and staying sober for over 14 months thanks to Erin, Justin, Rex and the entire CCR staff. Even after leaving CCR not only did my daughter maintain an amazing relationship with Erin, Justin and the staff, my family has also maintained a relationship with them as well and will be forever grateful to them for helping my daughter grow into a woman of true integrity and grace - and most of all acceptance of herself and of her disease. read more

I have been in active 12 Step Recovery for nearly 37 years. I've worked as a certified drug and alcohol therapist for nearly twenty years. I've seen people "make" it but more die from the complications of this disease. My daughter has been an active participant of Canyon Crossings for almost 90 days. She has not had this opportunity to face life on life's terms since I can remember. She'd been in a number of treatment centers who specialize in mental health, addictions, eating disorders, complex PTSD and so forth. NONE of them have truly "seen" my daughter as a young lady with the full potential for Integrity and Grace, other than Canyon. Other centers run their programs based on the Program's needs, not the Individual coming to them for healing. None of them, have embraced my daughter, with such unconditional love, support, and courage. My daughter is VERY manipulative. She'll be your best friend, and as soon as she becomes disinterested, she can reek havoc in anyone's life. I've yet to see such highly skilled, professionally trained, and credentialed staff be able to call it like it is, without ego, and help her find her way. I have felt so blessed and grateful for Canyon, after seeing my daughter after her first two months, and during our Family Week. This staff knows what they're doing. But it takes the ENTIRE village. Family week was absolutely necessary. I got sick right along with her active disease. If I had not been encouraged, or expected to participate in Alanon or some other family support group for families of addicts/alcoholics, I could still find excuses, be ruled by fear, and continue in the manipulative dance of my daughter's disease. They are teaching me where I end as a mother, and where recovery must begin. Our lives depend on all of us, doing our part in recovery. I have found such hope. I trust their knowledge and skill ... to truly guide my daughter to her fullest potential as a young woman, full of integrity and grace. I believe this treatment team is on to something ... and these young women who have the blessing of doing the very hard work of healing ... will make the world a better place, one day at a time. As a former client and graduate of Canyon Crossing Recovery it deeply pains me to read some of these reviews that have been posted. I do not agree with the accusations being made about the staff nor the way Canyon is run, I had and continue to have a different experience than the one that has been portrayed in some of the reviews. I have learned a lot from my time with Canyon, they not only aided in me getting sober, they gave me the tools I needed to have a lasting life. Canyon wasn't the first treatment I have ever attended, I have gone to too many treatment programs to even count, but Canyon was the only one to truly make a difference. It's funny how the poor reviews are being made by previous clients who's inappropriate behavior was challenged while attending CCR. I don't see any bad reviews made by people who have successfully completed the treatment program. Maybe that is its own review in itself; a review on the way these individuals view the world. It is hard to be called out on poor behavior patterns and be constantly redirected, but I know for me, personally, I didn't go through treatment to just be the same person I was walking in the doors. part of the Canyon experience is being called out on those defects of character that have aided and crippled us over the years and work on finding the asset to better use them in the future. It is actually rather sad that someone could hold onto a resentment for so long and use the internet as a way to, for lack of a better word, be petty and childish. This "emotional abuse" being talked about in a previous comment is simply someone's skewed view on the reality of the situation. And this view on Circle being an environment for "finger pointing" and "demeaning" comments is very false, Circle is when the community comes together to bring concerns and confrontations to their fellows in a healthy and productive manner. Yes, there is a lot of redirection and coaching that happens in Circle but it is not done in an abusive manner. Also, just for the record the client that supposedly died after being at Canyon for a year was no longer attending Canyon when she suddenly passed. She had left canyon 4 or 5 months prior and was attending a different program. This particular young woman was asked to take her facial piercings out when she was attending Canyon because she used those items as a "mask" to cover up who she truly was on the inside. That is one amazing thing about Canyon, they get you completely raw so you are able to build yourself up and discover your true identity. We all come into treatment suffering from an identity crisis, we have been using alcohol or drugs for so long that the only identity we have is in those substances. We need guidance, structure, and to be challenged so we can discover ourselves and become strong women. Losing her was a big loss for Canyon staff and clients, she was a big part of canyon and the community, so the fact the someone would use her death as an example of what an "awful" program Canyon is, honestly show how heartless and jaded people can be. Canyon is a close community and we lean on one another for love and support, when we lose one everyone feels it. Canyon does have a very high success rate of those who complete the program and attend alumni, so the statement that you have "seen many women go through Canyon and relapse" is inaccurate. Canyon gives their clients everything they have to prevent this. But when clients decide they no longer want to do the work and leave early, relapse is a risk factor. But we must also take into account that we are dealing with the disease of addiction, it is a cunning and baffling disease that shows no mercy. If an individual stops working their program or reaching out for help they are at risk for relapse. No one can guarantee anyone's sobriety, but Canyon definitely gives women more of a fighting chance. For me personally, Canyon was that ONE entity or force per say that refused to give up on me when everyone else had in my life. I was so broken and lost going into treatment and I needed a stricter environment. Canyon is a very loving place that kept encouraging me to give myself a chance at a real life that wasn't clouded and controlled by my addiction. I am eternally grateful for Canyon and all of their employees. They gave me the strength to keep pushing forward and strive for the happiness I sought. It is not an easy program, but who really wants to breeze by when your life is at stake? Canyon will fight for you even when you are unable to fight for yourself. They do more than just show up and direct you, they stand there and walk the path with you. Canyon is a place like no else and is definitely what I needed to find myself and find happiness in the world around me. I no longer feel the need to run away, use drugs, drink, or do any of that unhealthy/damaging behavior. I am a therapist who had a client who went to Canyon Crossing and according to my client she "loves" the staff, guidelines and rules to which the women are to abide by. My client told me that she appreciates the owners "toughness" and said this approach has helped her to remain clean and sober from heroin. My daughter was a client at Canyon Crossing for two weeks in October 2014. We removed our daughter from Canyon Crossing due to the following issues: 1. Canyon Crossing presents itself as a sober living house for woman in recovery from addiction and dual diagnosis. The owner and staff engaged in psychological treatment of the clients without any credentials. There was Clinical Director who had proper credentials but his role was minimal in treatment of the clients. 2. House managers from Canyon Crossing took clients on outings in which the managers drove over the speed limit and seat belts were not used. 3. Canyon Crossing did not have carbon monoxide detectors in the facility during the time our daughter was a client there despite an aging furnace and recommendations by the repairman. 4. The owner engaged in bullying and intimidating behavior when a decision was being made to remove our daughter from the facility. We were told that if she were to leave she would have to leave that day and go to a hotel. The owner later reneged on that ultimatum. According to Sober Living Network Standard for Homes "In the event a resident is asked to leave the home, all reasonable efforts much be made to find alternative lodging, exception for immediate danger to health, safety and welfare of residents or the community." 5.Canyon Crossing engaged in such practices as having the clients wear signs to group meetings for "bad behavior." Signs such as "boy ban" and " won't speak unless spoken to." These are therapeutic techniques that should only be used by licensed mental health proffessionals which the owner and staff are not. In summary Canyon Crossing is over stepping its bounds as a sober living facility. Clients are subjected to mental health therapies by persons who are non licensed as mental health professionals. This has the potential to harm vulnerable woman with addiction and mental health disorders. read more

I went through canyon crossing when I was 18 I'm now 24. I was kicked out of my previous treatment and had nowhere else to go. My parents paid basically nothing for me to be there and Erin took me in with open arms anyways. The program was hard yes, but it taught me how to grow up and fend for myself. I had my first job and learned to get there on time and walked to work everyday. I learned to get up and make my bed, budget the allowance we received and to grocery shop and plan meals for the week, and do laundry. All things I did not know how to do by myself at 18. Erin kept our paychecks and when I left (I did not graduate) I received a couple thousand dollars bc she had been saving those paychecks for me the whole time so I would have something when I left. A year later at my lowest point I called her and talked her ear off for a good two hours. She was still there for me and listened. For those who don't agree with her treatment plan... that's totally valid and everyone has their own path. But to personally attack Erin as a person and say she doesn't care is absolutely not true. She was tough on us and very protective of her girls. She was very emotionally invested and maybe even too much so some may argue. I guess you could say this is a PSA that is long overdue. I went through canyon crossing recovery four years ago. When I entered they were a nine bed facility very small sober living. I was there for nine months, was the second graduate of the program and started working there when I was nine months sober. In the beginning I was treated as the favorite because I stayed "loyal" through all the ups and downs and changes. Fast forward about three years, I have been promoted to residential director they have consigned and put money down on a new car for me and life seems perfect. In reality, I was on medication for anxiety, had extreme panic attacks and was under an extreme amount of stress. I couldn't handle the mistreAtment from the female owner of the program. So after months of praying and talking to my a team I decided this was just not healthy for me anymore, physically, mentally and spiritually. I let both owners know I would be putting my notice in for thirty days and would be available to train anyone and to get my name off all the accounts. That was not the case. The next day they told me they had found someone else and didn't need me. They wanted to fire me and have me off property that same day. They gave me no opportunity to take my name off accounts and they threatened to take my car away. At this point I'm confused scared and hurt, that my family I have built in sobriety has completely disowned and want nothing to do with me. Well fast forward almost a year now, i traded in the car that they "helped me out with" (when really this was held over my head the whole time I worked there) and now have a debt in collections because Justin refused to take my name off it and then did not pay the remaining balance for one of his sober living houses. I have tried calling and reaching out to both Erin and Justin about these matters and have gotten nothing but sent to voicemail or hung up on. Now you're probably thinking the same thing I am... what did she do treat her like this? To make Erin Bachman threaten her to a staff member of hers at recovery day and say wouldn't it be funny if I punched jenna in the face... or to not be able to show up to a birthday party for a child without having a mental breakdown because I'm there.. well I don't know either. These are the people that claim to want to help you get sober but in reality they just want to use you. They want to make you an employee with no training and pay you dirt cheap and take advantage of you. Their mission statement is women walking with integrity and grace but they lie, take your money and belittle you. It's all manipulation. I would not recommend anyone going this treatment center in Prescott. They find your house on google maps and figure out your worth so they can upcharge you. I do believe there are still treatment centers that do really want to help but this one has lost that. All they want is another bed filled and money in the bank. So with this review being posted, what they normally would do and have had me do in the past is ask all their employees and friends to write good reviews to try and cancel out this one. I currently live in Prescott and have a family that has been strongly affected by addiction. My sister in particular was always in and out of treatment and was never able to get sober. As a chronic relapser and someone who couldn't make it to 90 days without picking up a drink or a drug, Canyon Crossing was literally my last saving grace. I am now coming on 9 months clean and sober, which for the type of addict I was, is a miracle. I spent 6.5 months in the main house and now I live in the alumni house. Canyon Crossing provided the type of therapy and structure that someone like me needed. Yes it may have seemed hard at times, but without the struggles I experienced in my sobriety I wouldn't be the woman I am today; and regardless of the hard times I fell on the women and staff at Canyon Crossing NEVER EVER turned their back on me or walked away from me. Even in the moments where I was less than nice and wanted to walk away from it all they loved me regardless and always reminded how much I was loved and worth recovery. Not only that but Canyon taught me how to live again, from the basic stuff like doing laundry and cooking all the way to the big stuff such as budgeting and scheduling. I am now a woman who does not rely on drugs or alcohol to feel alright. I pay my own bills, I have an amazing job with the opportunity to move forward, I have rebuilt my relationships with my family and for the first time in 24 years I have friends. A year ago this October, I was so lost, so afraid I was going to lose my daughter to addiction. A friend of mine referred me to CCR. The owner talked with me for hours & hours she explained so much to me, reassured me, helped me find a detox center. The owners & the staff have been amazing. The education we, the family of the client gets has been extremely helpful in understanding both sides. Addiction destroys so many, it has such a domino effect. The heartache and pain can be unbearable at times. The staff at CCR understands this, listens to us- the family as well as taking excellent care of their clients. They truly want each and every girl to succeed, to have an opportunity to find a new and better path in life. My daughter has been with Canyon Crossing Recovery for six months , I have seen her grow and learn so much about herself and her problem and to respect herself and others . In the first four to five months I would talk to a very positive young women once a week and now we talk most every day and is a pleasure to talk to her . Her mother and her are doing very well at rebuilding there relationship its a lot of work but it is working . I receive a weekly phone call from her counselor with a up date and how they will be going forward and preparing her to learn how to stay sober when she graduates . I have visited my daughter once a month and the staff and other girls in the program are polite and professional . They are always busy and working on staying fit and sober . After 7 months at Canyon Crossing Recovery my daughter joined us for a family vacation. She is a different person, more patient, more mature and more accepting of life and the people around her. And, for the first time in many years, sober. Her sobriety has allowed her to find peace within herself. CCR supported her journey from a confused young woman with low self-esteem into a woman who now walks more confidently, and more sure of herself and her choices. Canyon Crossing provided the platform and structure she needed to maintain sobriety, rebuild relationships with her family and feel good about herself as a woman. The program promotes self-responsibility and challenges behaviors that lead to relapse. As parents, we benefited from the CCR family program. We learned how destructive our 'help' has been. Weekly updates with CCR staff provided an opportunity to address concerns and helped us to understand what we needed to do to help our daughter succeed. My daughter went to Canyon Crossing for a six-month aftercare program, following completion of a 45-day stay at another Arizona-based rehab facility. I was incredibly pleased with the quality of care at Canyon Crossing, and was particularly happy with their philosophy--which emphasizes self-empowerment and accountability--and their staff, who were warm, highly professional, and cared deeply about the women in the program. My daughter made incredible strides while at Canyon Crossing, and was able to work through many of the issues that had led to her addiction. Also, CCR does a very good job of communicating with families, which was important to me. My daughter is doing very well today, and I'm happy to report that she has almost one-year of sobriety.
