My twins have been going to this dentist for about a year and 1 of my twins was referred out for teeth fillings. I decided I don't want my 4 yr old put to sleep for the fillings, so I contacted the dentist and asked can they do the same thing they did for the other twin. I'm from the East Bay. My kids' original pediatric dentist is your basic walk in, get it done & out. My son hasn't had good experiences with dentists since he was small enough to go and was always anxious. Upon needing dental work, we were sent to a dentist in San Jose where it was just sketchy. I was traumatized after that experience and so was he. Our primary dentist didn't want to do dental work on my son because he was "fidgety." I requested a second opinion from another dentist with high reviews in Oakland who also mentioned he didn't feel comfortable working on my son and requested he be seen by a specialist for sedation for one tooth. At the appt, the specialist stated he didn't feel comfortable sedating him for one tooth and any Pediatric dentist is more than capable. Feeling reassured knowing that he also agreed, the receptionist gave me the number to my insurance. I called feeling defeated as my son was now in pain after getting the run around all year. She connected me with Kathy (you're amazing Kathy!) from Canyon Pediatric Dentistry and just the sound of her voice gave me hope and reassurance. My son walked in nervous and Dr Roya noticed. She talked and explained everything she was doing step by step and in the end, he got a prize from their prize stand. My son came out excited Dr Roya was willing to help him and how patient, kind, and gentle she is. This practice isn't like any other practice where there's no bond with the patient. They treat you like family and make the process smooth. Dr Roya was able to take care of the tooth that hurt, I'm able to be present in the room (unlike w/our primary for dental work) and my son, although anxious both times, wasn't as fidgety as the prior dentists mentioned. This office gives you a feeling of safety and security. I switched my daughter to this office as well and now they'll both be permanent patients here. I'm beyond happy and blessed to have found Dr Roya and am so grateful and thankful. My son loves going to the dentist now and and my daughter had fun on her first experience as well. read more

Today was our first appointment here and the staff was amazing. Kathy who schedules the appointments was always helpful and accommodating. The dental assistant that cleaned my sons teeth was sweet with him and very nice to talk to. The Dentist was better then I could have imagined. In the past my son had a bad experience at a different dentist. This dentist took her time, explained everything she was going to do with my son and made him so comfortable. I personally became a patient of Dr. Ashrafi when I was a teenager. He took over the practice of my childhood dentist and for the last 15+ years, I've had nothing but good things to say about him. Back in 2008, when my then-1 year old had a mouth emergency, Dr. Ashrafi was an obvious choice for immediate care. Since then, I've been taking him every 6 months for cleanings/check-ups and have done so with my younger son as well starting from 1 year old. I love the staff and Dr. Ashrafi is always very personable, talks to your children on their level, doesn't ever recommend unnecessary work, and is just an overall honest dentist. I recommend him to all my friends and family without hesitation. As a plus, he has had the same staff (front and back office) for a very long time and I have gotten to know them as well. Dr. Ashrafi is very knowledgeable and very kind and caring person. my eight years old son teeth got infected really bad, and the other dentist was trying to do filling on the infected teeth. I didn't allowed her to do the filing and immediately took my son to Dr. Ashrafi. Thanks god that he took care of my son. His teeth (2 teeth) was infected so bad that he had to prescribe my son with antibiotic and then remove those infected teeth and....he is very knowledgeable!!! I LOVE Dr. Ashrafi. He's amazing and if he took adult patients, I would choose him in a heart beat. Most of all the way he treats my kids is stellar. He's supportive, encouraging, and praises them throughout the process. He filled caveties for my 4 year and old and after she left, she asked when we could come back. The fact that my kids WANT to come to the dentist should be telling enough. He is knowledgeable and left me with great instructions on how to care for my kids teeth. Dr. Ashrafi is like the the Godfather of teeth- he takes my children's dental health and maintenance very seriously. My children now ages 10 and 9 have been under Dr. Ashrafi's care for about 2 years now. I, nor my children, have any complaints. And, believe me, if my children had complaints they would express themselves to me and I would not think twice of switching them to another dentist. (I am especially sensitive to my son's comfort because when he was younger he underwent a traumatic experience at Youthful Tooth in Oakland that I thought would ruin his ability to trust dentists again- but that's another review for another day.) However, his experience with Dr. Ashrafi has been positive so far. In the end my children are comfortable going to their dental appointments and their teeth are well cared for under Dr. Ashrafi's vigilant eye. read more

"The kid has trust issues"....."Don't waste my time". If you want your pediatric dentist to say those words to your kids, please go ahead and see Dr. Ashrafi. Yes, thats what he said to my daughter. Like most kids, my daughter has always been scared going to a dentist office. I have always taken her to pediatric dentists, which as you'd expect, have always helped her overcome her fear and anxiety during dental treatments. Not this dentist. Being new to this area, I took my daughter to Dr. Asharfi. Was extremely dis-satisfied, and shocked that a "PEDIATRIC" dentist would get frustrated with a kid, in just a few minutes, if the kid is not co-operating. Avoid him, there are much better choices out there. And by the way, I doubt if the other 5 star reviews here are legit. Yelp should verify! read more

Dr Ashrafi and staff are awesome with kids. My son has no problem going here. His first visit at three was scary, he had to be put under for a mini root canal. I've been bringing my kids to doctor Ashrafi for 6 years. First heard about him when my eldest had a tooth ache on a holiday weekend when his regular dentist office at the time was closed. I called my insurance carrier and they recommended Dr. Ashrafi. When I called his office during non-normal business hours 10pm it was closed but I left a message and his office assistant must checked the messages and contacted me the following morning and made and emergency appointment me to bring my son in. Ever since he became my kids new dentist. My 6 year old really enjoys and feels comfortable coming to the dentist. Dr. Ashrafi is the most unprofessional dentist I have ever dealt with. I took both my 6 and 9 year old kids to him for dental work. My disappointment with his practice is due to: 1, Performed on my kids procedures different that what was agreed upon and scheduled for that session. When your kids enter his office, you never know what he is going to perform on them. 2. Overcharged us for work not done, and when we asked for a refund in the overcharged amount, he refused saying we can get a refund on the next visit charge. 3. Performed a procedure on my daughter without any prior authorization. My daughter had a yellow tooth due to a high fever she had when the tooth was just coming out. While performing a different procedure on a different tooth of hers, he whitened the yellow tooth using resin. Knowing that there are many different ways of whitening that tooth with different advantages/disadvantages, he did not even consult with us what method we want to use. When I complained to him that this procedure was not scheduled neither authorized, he falsified our signed authorization form by hand writing that tooth procedure on it after we signed it and sent us a copy! Lucky us, we had the original signed copy. When I complained nicely to him regarding the issues above, he was rude, overly defensive, and not even willing to listen to my complaints. I successfully filed a complaint with the insurance company and got them to reverse the charges for work charged to us but not performed. read more

UPDATE 2/20/12: I have to say I have NEVER been more disgusted by someone's attitude as I was today by the receptionist up front. My daughter had her 6 month check up scheduled, mind you 6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE, and when we arrived on time for her 10:30am appt we were kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Over an hour goes by and nothing. The receptionist's attitude just put me beyond. She made excuse after excuse of why we were still waiting and never once even attempted to apologize. She absolutely lacks any concept of how to run a front desk or how to provide any customer service. I would never expect to show up to an appt ONE HOUR LATE and expect to be seen and yet somehow they think it is acceptable to keep us waiting for one hour with no idea when they would be actually seeing us. It just blows my mind! On top of it, when I called to reschedule for an evening appt because I refuse to take more time off work and pull my daughter from school due to their lack of timeliness I was told that they won't accommodate the request. That was my final straw. I refuse to participate and contribute to this office in thinking that their time is more important than mine and my daughter's. Unfortunately, their arrogance and lack of courtesy has lost them a patient and gained them only negative word of mouth. Major disappointment! I brought my daughter to Dr. Ashrafi for her very first dentist appointment. Needless to say she had lots of questions and reluctance about seeing a dentist and Dr. Ashrafi began easing all of her concerns from the first moment. I went to their website and they have a booklet that you can print out for your child's first visit. It personalizes their name and age into the story about what to expect. My daughter and I read the book and she colored in all the pictures. She loved it! From that point on she was almost bragging about getting to go. From the moment we walked in she was like a kid in a candy store. Everything is brightly colored and their play area is like none I have seen before. They have all sorts of games, a Sony Playstation 2 and tons of magazines. The staff was welcoming and super friendly, not to mention very prompt! They walked my daughter through every step of the process. They even had an array of animal sunglasses for her to pick from so that the light didn't bother her. Dr. Ashrafi felt almost like family. He is warm, engaging, and very intuitive! He was able to make us feel at ease instantly and was so knowledgeable! We ended our visit by taking a picture with Dr. Ashrafi that they put onto a certificate for my daughter summing up her very first dentist visit! I LOVE DR. ASHRAFI AND CANYON PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY!! I think one of the main reasons we kept coming is because of Kathy! She is a wonderful, helpful compassionate person. My rating is strictly regarding Dr. Ashrafi. I would never post something negative about anyone if it wasn't true. As my daughter sat scared in the dentist chair, her check was cut open by the Dr. and she began to cry. We have been sending our kids to Dr. Ashrafi fro several years now. He is great with both our 7 year old and 11 year old. My oldest was very tentative about visiting the dentist but Dr. Ashafi has helped him to feel more comfortable. He takes time to visit with the kids first and then parents. He always takes a moment to talk to the kids about the importance of their dental care and does a good job keeping us informed about issues or things we might want to consider down the road.
