I had a "partial" hair coloring and cut done a few months ago at Canyon River Salon. They charged a NYC, Chicago, or LA price of $280 for it. The job looked about 3-4 months grown out the day the person finished it. The stylist didn't listen to how I asked for it to be done. I feel like I could have gotten a box of hair coloring from Target and asked my daughter who's in college to color my hair. She would have done a better job than what the person from Canyon River did. After I went home, they asked how things went. I responded that I wasn't happy with the job done. I don't know why they asked my opinion because I never heard back from them about my complaints. Why bother going back there if the business doesn't show they care what the customer thinks? read more

Nice little spa in Bozeman. We were visiting and I wanted to thank my friends for their hospitality treating us all to a massage day. We booked two weeks in advance but we were called on the day of our appointments that they would only be able to accomodate 2 of us for massages. I ended up with a facial just so that we could all go together. I go for massages often and have never been cancelled on. They should have a better back up plan. read more

I am usually much too lazy for reviews but my 90 minute massage with Kyle was THE BEST massage I have ever had. I get monthly massages at home and try to find a spa every time I travel (yes, I'm spoiled rotten) and this took it to another level. I've never had someone find all the knots so quickly and work them out like magic. It's probably actual magic. Also, the relaxation space is beautiful, they have champagne on hand and the snacks were all of my favorite things. Received an amazing 60 minute massage with Autumn. She's gifted! I requested deep tissue and she applied the perfect amount of pressure. Also had a Tulasara Facial Treatment to focus on anti-aging with Cinnamon. Looked like I got 10 years off me. So relaxing and there was no upselling. They had a steam room, dry sauna, lockers and Aveda products to help you get ready for the day. Overall, relaxing, friendly atmosphere. We were also served mimosas:) read more

I have been living with a BAD haircut for a while; it was done at other salons while I was searching for a new stylist. I went to Bridget and told her exactly what I wanted. I got a GREAT cut...but it is so far away from what I wanted. She gave me a modified "Karen"...pouf on the crown included. I did not want that. I asked for some layers, and I like my hair to flip out, not bezel. Well...ONE HUNDRED AND TWO DOLLARS later (tip not included) and I have nothing like what I wanted. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. I had planned to see her next week to let her try and rectify the situation, but I canceled. My hair is already too short. I just have to live with it for a few months. ...great... $102 not including tip, and I have a modified poodle/Karen cut. This is a review of a full leg and bikini wax. A little over a month ago I had some last min schedule changing and had to drop my appointment with my regular waxer and no one had any availability except Canyon River Spa. Perhaps I should have taken this as a sign but it is close by and well reviewed so I was hopeful. Though the staff is perfectly nice the wax itself took over two hours! More than twice the time I have ever previously experienced for the same services. I kept thinking to myself that if it is taking this long it must be because she is being sooo thorough, right? WRONG. I had HUGE patches of missed hair on my calves, knees, thighs, and along my bikini (basically everywhere I had paid to not have hair). I was in a rush after the appointment took so long and didn't have a chance to even review the poor work until I was home. The entire thing was a waste of my time and money. The reason for the second star is only for the fact that the space appeared clean and smelled nice. read more

Cordel gave me the best haircuts and one of the best service experiences of my life. I had recently lost my little brother and had not cut my hair since. I didn't realize I grief was preventing me from taking care of my appearance. So when I finally decided to get a hair cut I didn't realize the emotions that were attached. Cordel did though. He made my experience comfortable and wonderful. He was an amazing host and listened to my needs. It was better than the doc and the a counseling session put together. Plus my hair looked great. Like someone really took their time to make it just right. Cordel sincerely enjoys giving good service and it shows. After this experience I wouldn't want to go to anyone else. And after finding out how important it is to Aveda to use natural products, I won't be going anywhere else. Best salon experience ever. read more

We are visiting Bozeman for a couple of months to escape the Arizona heat. It has been over four months since my last massage and I was desperate to get the kinks out after the long drive from Scottsdale. I had a recommendation and calked Canyon River for a massage and was very pleasantly surprised - the spa was keeping all CDC standards very high in this tine of pandemic and I was fortunate to get Haili as my therapist. A great deep tissue massage which was very professional and just what I needed. I highly recommend CRS and will be going back for another massage. Great place. read more

I've only been to Canyon River Spa once. I had an issue with them not honoring a gift certificate, because I had made the reservation on-line. So they charged the credit card I had given on-line and wouldn't issue a refund. So I ended up paying for the massage myself - not what the client who gave me the gift certificate had intended! BUT...the manager was extremely professional, and called me a few weeks later to fix the problem. The owner also contacted me to resolve the problem. They really do care! I had been here once for a pedicure and wasn't wowed. I could have literally done the same thing for myself at home, probably better than the girl who did it... It wasn't worth it for me. Plus, it was incredibly awkward, she didn't have much to say. I received a gift card and decided to try them again...here was my WOW factor. I wasn't feeling too hot and almost cancelled the appointment... So glad I didn't. I came in for just a haircut. I had Aubri Ann, she was very nice, understood what I wanted after some explanation. The scalp massage was great after not feeling very good all morning. She was very attentive to detail with my cut, even going back in after blow drying to make sure everything was even and just-right. She didn't put crazy curls on me like stylists sometimes do, she did a nice style that I would actually do myself. She did let me know what products she was using on me, and wasn't pushy about selling. I decided to buy the Style-Prep spray and I'm glad I did! My hair is so straight and never holds any styling I do. This stuff really works!! Needless to say, I left happy and feeling great! Canyon River Spa is awesome! I've been to the spa for massage, facial and pedicure, as well as the next door (brand new) salon for styling and a hair cut. You are treated wonderfully from the moment you walk in the door. A huge bonus at the spa is the steam room which is included in the treatments and the Aveda products! Because of past experience, I was hesitant to book massage at a spa because at other spas ended up being more of a skin treatment than a muscle massage. Not here. Every massage I've had at Canyon River Spa has been fantastic. I'm very impressed with everyone who works there and will continue to use their services! read more

OMG. Thank you Amy for such a wonderful massage. Everyone out there looking for a massage, Amy is incredible. I highly recommend her. I have gone to many massage therapists, but no one has been as knowledgeable and competent as Amy. She took the time to figure out what my back needed, I mean really understand, not just say - "Oh, you have tension." She broke it down muscle by muscle and went to work. For the first time in a long while, I actually felt like someone made progress. That is saying a lot. I chose Canyon River based on yelp and am very glad that I did. I will return the next time that I am in town, which isn't soon enough. Details: The spa is calming but not pretentious. They have locker rooms with a steam room and shower for men and women (separately). There isn't a lot of room to change, but enough if there are only one or two of you. (I never had a problem.) They provide a comfy robe and slippers to change into. After you are done, the locker room has a few nice toiletries and combs in case you need one. They are now an Aveda store (more points). You wait for your therapist (or esthetician) in a room with a fireplace, water and a few snacks. The light is dim and the chairs are cushy and big. It was very relaxing. The massage room was just the right size with room to walk around the table without feeling like you needed to squeeze in. The table was extra comfortable. I really liked the foot rest. It felt soft and gushy instead of a hard brick at other places. As for the massage. One of the best, if not the best in my life. Yes, it was that good. read more

Canyon river spa is amazing in every way. It was my wedding last week and I had the opportunity to spend tons of time in the spa in preparation. I had a bridal hair and makeup run-through, a facial, massage, and the bridal hair and makeup (as well as hair and makeup for the bridal party) on the wedding day. Everything was fabulous from start to finish! Rachel's skill with my hair was so detail oriented: everyone was so impressed with my soft, weaving updo. She was incredibly friendly and caring, even taking me aside to personally ask if I was doing alright and if she could do anything for me after seeing I was a little overwhelmed by the wedding day stress. Stacey did my makeup perfectly. In the past, I've had makeup artists use way too much makeup, making me look like a porcelain doll with bright lipstick. Stacey took the time to ask what I wanted and actually listened. She used the right amount of makeup and made it look incredibly professional. I had my makeup done at 1030am for my 5pm wedding and the only thing I needed to reapply was my lipstick. The spa was also top notch. Everyone was professional and inviting, making sure my mother-in-law and I were fully enjoying the experience. The massage was just the right pressure and the facial left my skin refreshed and moisturized (much needed with the dry Montana weather). Overall, I would highly recommend canyon river spa. Went here for a couples massage. My swedish massage was very average but refreshing. My wive massage was poor at best. The lady focused on doing pressure points and not enough tension relief. Very disappointed on that end. The men's dressing is one man at a time so their was a line to use it. The shower was also a steam room which was insufferable because there was no way to turn it off. I had to keep opening the shower door to get fresh air as the steam and heat made it hard to breathe. Simply said I would not recommend this establishment unless what I described is what your looking for. 2 stars for my massage. read more

Kelsey and Josh at Aveda Salon saved my hair! I made the mistake of going to the cosmetology school to lighten my hair and boy was that a mistake. I left with bleach blonde hair (I'm dark skinned and did not pull it off). About 4 shades lighter than I wanted. I called Aveda at 6pm on Friday night and they made room and fit me in at 9am the next day. With only two hours to work, Kelsey and josh completely fixed my hair and I love it!!! Wow! Was I tricked into thinking I could receive a relaxing massage here!! Good thing I didn't have this experience the day before my wedding!! First, I called to make my appointment, explaining that I was looking for a relaxing massage with only light to medium pressure. The guy set me up with a certain masseuse that specializes in that and said you will be very happy with it. I arrived and was greeted by a very friendly front desk girl. I was then shown to the locker room and was super impressed of how I could start relaxing before the massage with a steam room, shower, water and snacks if I wanted. I could barely breathe in the steam room, so I had to step out. That was disappointing! I then wAited in a waiting area that had softly dimmed lights, soft music and a fire place. I was also very impressed with thAt and its design/decor. I sadly then started getting upset sitting there extra while my masseuse was extremely late! Once they came to get me, they never apologized. I found that very rude. I could immediately sense that this was not a great day for them, like I was just a bother. My massage started with some very painful moments. It wasn't until about 10 minutes later that I was asked if the pressure was ok. I was getting so mad on the table that I almost got up and to call it quits. I told them I needed less pressure. I was also very upset that for a relaxing massage that I had basically no long, flowing, soothing strokes, just mainly a muscle/small area worked painfully for so many minutes at a time. I also found weird that my arms individually would be bent and placed behind my back which was not really comfortable at all. Once they started on the other side, that strong pressure was started again when I said I wanted less! Then when the arms, feet and legs were massaged, it was quite quick like they were in a real hurry. That's not relaxing. The essential oil used was mint which I'm not sure how that's considered relaxing. Lavender anywhere? It was so weak, it was almost laughable. The music could be a lot better. It's that old fashioned/traditional relaxing music. At the end, your robe is placed on your legs. Strange. Is that a hint to hurry up and get dressed and get out of there? I did not sense a wArm, caring atmosphere while having my massage. I will look elsewhere til I find such a caring person. Good energy is a must! The only reason I gave 2 stars is for the other friendly people I came across there, the facility and that there could be big potential with the right owner/manager. Maybe being corporate Aveda is a problem too. Last time I tried its hair salon in another city, I came out with the wrong hair color! Why would I think I can get a good massage at another location? read more

Although the atmosphere is beautiful there is something incredibly shady about this salon. This is shown in both my experience as a guest and the extreme turn over in staff...from stylists to the front desk help. The straw that broke the camels back was when I traveled 6 hours for an appointment with my stylist only to find I had been moved to someone else because the owner was angry at my stylist because (gasp) she decided to move on. Just goes to show you can have all the money in the world to create a beautiful salon but you can't buy class, integrity, morals or a good business sense. Complete and total lack of professionalism. I was treated very poorly at this spa as more time passed, after enjoying my first few treatments. After the first time, I thought it was a fluke. After the second time, I figured I'd seen someone on a bad day and I'd give it one more time. I have went to Canyon River for many years. I love the atmosphere and the people are very friendly and nice. But when my masseuse went out on her own I stopped going there. I needed to use up some gift cards that my husband had gotten me. I knew whatever I decided to do it would be VERY expensive. I decided to go have my nails done. I did a little browsing to pick out a design and colors that I wanted on my nails. I was really excited. But I can tell you right now that is you want other than one color on your nails this is not the place to go. Go to Bella Nails or Le Nails. They don't have the equipment to make designs and the nice young lady that did my nails had no experience or creativity. I paid $110 for a mani/pedi. OUCH!!! I wouldn't have minded except that I could have done the same job she did at home! Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Fabulous spa day! I couldn't ask for better treatment. From my initial contact with Heather via email, to her follow up email to make sure my daughter and I enjoyed our spa day, we were treated like queens. My daughter and I purchased the essential spa package with an upgrade to a 90 minute stress-fix massage. This was followed by a facial and pedicure. We were there early enough to enjoy the eucalyptus sauna which is the perfect way to start. The price was fair and we were treated to Mimosas for the holiday weekend! The staff was professional, friendly and very good at each service. We never felt rushed from one treatment to another and left feeling totally relaxed.
