I had a very disappointing experience with the reception staff at Cape Fear HVAC. I called with a simple question about my bill, expecting a courteous and professional conversation. Instead, Mrs. Laney and Mrs. Caroline were both extremely disrespectful and had terrible attitudes from the moment they answered the phone. As a customer, I wasn't argumentative--I was simply trying to understand a billing issue. Rather than listening or attempting to help, they were dismissive, rude, and made me feel like my questions were an inconvenience. Customer service starts with the first person who answers the phone, and unfortunately, this interaction reflected very poorly on the company. I hope management addresses how customers are treated because no one should be spoken to with disrespect for asking a simple billing question and shouldn't feel like they are annoying them by any questions it's the job they are getting paid for. I was so disappointed and after reading reviews I actually drove 30 minutes to talk to someone over them and when I walked in all I said was "hey how are you doing is there anyone that I can talk to over the establishment" and I was greeted by a older dark hair lady that would not give me her name or anyone else's that I could talk to after I told her what it was about. All she kept saying was we aren't going to be doing this which I don't even know what she was referring to because I was only there to talk to someone over them but at the end of the day if you are a person that feels like when you call a business you should be treated with respect please stay away from this business because apparently this has been a issue with other people according to reviews and it hasn't been handled read more

I had previously reviewed these guys and thought they were great. Well that's until you run into an issue with them. I've had them come out on 3 separate occasions since November 2025 to resolve an issue for me that never got resolved. They told me it was this then if it wasn't this it would be that. We jumped through the hoops and made all the changes to a tune of $800+. When the tech came out a third time in March 2026 and he literally told my husband what we had been having them come out to fix is how the system was intended to function. Sooo why did I just spend $800+ to fix a non-issue and why wouldn't someone else say that? Fast fast forward to May 2026 another tech comes in to complete regular service and what do you know that issue that the last tech said wasn't an issue turns out it is and now they said it would cost me an additional $1100 fix it. This is in addition to the $275 he had just finished swiping my card for to cover their yearly maintenance plan. I contacted the office and spoke to Frank. We agreed to split the initial $800 cost incurred and split ways and he'd reimburse me once he got the new quote. Sent him the quote but cropped the new company out because it's none of their business who has my business now. Well Frank now says they will not be able to reimburse me for failing to do the job and just charging me for things not needed unless I can provide them the invoice showing without cropping out the new company. I could be doing the repairs myself for all it matters. The point is providing you the next company's information should have no bearing or keep you from refunding charges that should have never been billed to begin with. Needless to say I am not being reimbursed half of the initial $800 agreed upon and Frank will likely come on here and try to justify not giving me my money back. Hope the $400 dollars is worth losing me as a customer forever and all the bad press I'm about to give you around town. Mike W. arrived on time. He introduces himself to me and proceeding to do his job. He serviced my HVAC system and the mini-split. He was very thorough and spent a lot of time servicing my two systems. He broke down the mini-split and cleaned that system from the inside to the outside. He found that the main HVAC system blower capacitor tested out of range and replaced it upon me agreeing with him. Mike was very polite and courteous. He is very knowledgeable and gave me great advice to help me make good decisions to keep both of my systems running over this winter season. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. They came out and said I had a leak and would need a coil replacement. They also said my compressor burnt out. When I called to ask more questions about an expensive repair I was greeted by Caroline who picked up the phone and mocked me, "ugh why is she calling what could she want." Needless to say canceled that service. Had a second company out. Said there is no leak because there is still in there from his test but yes your compressor is out. Background: A/C went out on Tuesday 27 June, after spending hours doing research I found Cape Fear to be a reputable company based solely on reviews. The next morning, I drove to the local office and was met by a young lady at the door. Within 5 min I had scheduled a visit with a representative. They scheduled the arrival time between 1130 and 1200, Eric called me and asked if he could come earlier, Great! After a few hours with Eric, he provided me with 8 different options to meet our family needs. I decided on a system and to replace all the ductwork in the house. The team from Cape Fear managed to take everything out of the house and install a brand new unit and ductwork today 30 June. Our house is from 1962, and upon inspection for a new HVAC system it was discovered by Jeff that the electrical was dangerous! I appreciated the up front honesty on what actually needed to be done. The other companies that had come out gave high estimates and no mention of the electrical issue, which would have been no doubt added during the job as a surprise expense. Amazing company, with an amazing team member in Mike. Early Saturday morning, like midnight, out A/C stopped working and we have a newborn, so we were freaking out. I hoped on Yelp to find an HVAC company with great reviews and after looking at a few, I decided to try Cape Fear. I called their after hours number and was immediately taken care of. The representative took my info and had Mike call me. Mike called me in less than 10 minutes and agreed to come out. He arrived about 30 minutes after we hung up, he located the problem, told us he could fix it and told us the cost. We agreed to the cost and Mike went to work. Our A/C was fixed and running in about 2 hours from the time I made the call. There was an after hours service fee and the cost of parts, but it wasn't expensive and I'm very frugal The only negative comment is that I see they offer military discounts, but we were not offered one. I purchased the end-of-summer special to have my AC checked because it is 8 years old and I have never real had any maintenance on it. I thought it would be a good investment after the peak of the summer heat so I purchased the deal and was immediately contacted by someone to pick a date for the service. I was able to pick 3 dates as preferences and Sue Hicks and Megan did a wonderful job setting up my appointment and I was set. One day before my appointment, both of my thermostats suddenly died and I knew it had something to do with the electrical wiring because the batteries as a back up turned on the thermostat. The problem was that the thermostat was not talking to the AC unit so my air went off completely. The timing was actually perfect because I had my appointment for the AC maintenance the next day. Stephen R. (Steve) was my service provider and he could not have been any friendlier or more professional. He was super-punctual and listened as I explained what happened to my AC unit. He started looking at the furnace in the attic and knew immediately what the problem was. He took a picture of it for me on his phone so that I did not have to go into the sweltering attic. The switch on the furnace was cracked and the wires were no longer connected. He explained everything to me and then showed me the pricing to have this switch replaced. After he solved that problem, he proceeded to start the inspection and cleaning of the actual AC unit outside. He used a hose to clean the unit, took it apart and worked outside in the heat for about an hour and a half. After the diagnostic report, he told me that my capacitors were not looking too good and it would be a good idea to either have them replaced now or wait but they weren't in top condition. I asked him how much it would cost to also replace those and he gave me a quote. I decided to have those replaced and the switch because I just want everything to work and not worry about problems down the road. Steve installed the new capacitors and took my payment information and everything was great. My air is back on and cooling down the house and I am so happy with the service. I also have Steve's card and email in case I need to get a hold of him and he provided the best service I have experienced with Angie's List. I spent $13k to replace a 3 year old package unit with all new duct work and a high efficient Goodman split system with new thermostat. I was told by Jeff Nance, sales, that it would take 2-1/2 days to install, so I was prepared for that time. To make a long incredible story shorter, it took them 5 days to leave me with a system, I'm still not sure is working correctly. I called and left message with Jeff Nance who btw swears I didn't, that I was having problems, no call back! I had to call again, was treated as if I only needed service, and yet I tried to relay to him that I wasn't yet handed a working system. They sent a service tech Nick who knew what he was doing and found the thermostat wired incorrectly. He then checked refrigerant in the system, and inadvertently left the compressor switched off. I had to again call and again treated as if needing service. The service tech again came out after verifying he was allowed to, found the unit switched off and again we were back in business. I have old thermometers in my duct work, so I can tell what temps are and not yet convinced all is ok. I was hounded by the office to make payment. I finally wrote a letter to Jeremy Johnson informing him of all these issues I had went thru. He did make a half hearted attempt to please me, but no indication that Jeff Nance or the office in Fayetteville will be doing anything different now or in the future. They cashed my check, and again, here I sit, without any walk thru, any service contract, and wondering what to do about a manufacturers warranty? My best neighbors recommended these people, and they now are as amazed at this performance as I am. My best advice, FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO DO YOUR HEAT AND A/C NEEDS! read more

I don't even know where to start with this First of all we bought our house a few years ago Well, when we bought the house, the AC went out, so we had to contact cape fear air and get a new AC. Well, the guy up sold us this 2 stage unit . Well before my a c went I bought a nest for a thermostat. When they came to install the AC. They said that the nest that I had would not work with the new AC because it was a 2 stage so I had to go spend more money and get a new nest when I called corporate and asked him about that. They said that they would extend our warranty for us for inconvenience. Well, skip a 6 months later, the heater dies and this was around December, so it was like the coldest time of year right around Christmas time. And the guy comes out, and he fidgets with our nest and he goes up in the attic. And he says I don't understand what's going on. I've got to call somebody, so he goes back to our nest. And hes flipping the switches inside the nest. And it's not working, he says well, your thermostat's broken. I have a new one in the Van. It's like $400 hes like Do you want to switch out the nest for the new thermostat? And I was, like no, the thermostat. We have is Maybe 1/2 a year old I said we just bought it. There's no way it's gone bad. Well, he said there's nothing I can do and If you're not gonna buy the thermostat, I can't help you and left We reconnected the wires And put the nest back on the wall miraculously The heater starts working So when they called us and said that they were sending A bill I told them that I was not paying for somebody to come and just look at it, flip a few switches And try to upsell us a thermostat. This summer, the AC stop working. Because a tree had fallen on my roof and my air conditioner was working overtime so I called them to come do a routine check and make sure everything was working right. Cause it's still under warranty. And Jennifer, so very rudely says we talked about this in December, you are no longer customers of ours. Good luck finding somebody else. Because we refuse to pay for somebody to come look at our system under warranty, they dropped us in the middle of summer with no AC I have the small children and my fiancé is a disabled veteran. The manager Jennifer was extremely rude and when I called back to talk to her cause she had hung up on Nathan They didn't answer... so I called Raleigh and I asked to speak to a supervisor and I never heard back. My 86 year old father has been using this company for 10 years. He pays $110 for them to complete a yearly service on his HVAC. They completed this in March and in July he had a blocked drainline. The water was then apparently blown by a fan into a vent, causing ceiling damage. They were called to repair and stated this was not their issue and charged him $220 for the visit. When the company was asked how this pipe could so quickly be clogged, the answer was "with the right conditions they can clog in a matter of weeks". Our research shows thats not likely if it were cleaned thoroughly this first time. Needless to say, they will not get his business any longer. We called Cape Fear Heating and Air on 24 July at 3:30pm when our AC stopped working during 95 degree day. They were able to send out a tech by the name of Mitch by 5:00pm. Mitch was absolutely WONDERFUL!! When he went up in the attic to look at our unit he took pictures and a video of what he saw. My husband and I then had a better understanding what was going on. Mitch provided us with several options. He did not pressure us, he did a magnificent job explaining why one situation was better to do then the other. He was not able to fix the unit that day. The part had to come from the other store in Raleigh, which was fine. He gave us some idea as to what to do to cool the house as we had 5 adults 2 kids and 3 dogs, so a lot of people to keep comfy! Mitch came was schedule to come back the next afternoon. He was actually back by 11:45am then next day had the unit running with an hour and half. He went around to each vent to ensure air flow was sufficient, acknowledged the temp of the house was 85 degrees and it was going to take a while for the temp to come down, said if it was not getting cooler over tree next few hours to call the come and he will right back to take a look at things. We felt so reassured, we did not feel as though we were getting scammed. We truly felt Mitch and Cape Fear Air and Heating cared about making our family comfortable as quickly as possible. I called Cape Fear and got an appointment right away for a quote on a complete new HVAC unit. Tim came out the next day. But first let me give some background on our situation. We needed a new downstairs HVAC unit. I called over a dozen different places. Only three could make it to an appointment. So right off the bat only Trane dealers took the time and cared enough to want our business. Our system had been out for 10 days and dealing with our Home warranty company and there representatives is never easy or fast. Our home warranty wanted to finally replace they system with a cheap heat pump that was to minimum standards. So we instead asked for a cash out value. We decided to purchase a new system of our choice. So we where going into our second week on no heat or air and we wanted all the dealers to be there before the weekend. We wanted the weekend to decide. So Tim was the salesman/manager who came out to our house. He was very professional and knowledgeable about Trane products. He did a complete assessment of our heating and air needs. He had a few quotes on different Trane systems for us that evening. What was reassuring that all three companies who came out found that there was a deficiency with our duct work under the house. They all said that the two return air ducts where to small and starving our system. And new larger duct line leading out to our sunroom would bring in more air to help with the heating and cooling. So Tim worked up a quote with new duct work, new air handler, and outside unit. It came with Trane's excellent warranty program. 12 year compressor, 10 year coil, 10 year parts, and a 10 year Labour warranty was all included. We decided to get the 18 SEER system that is fully wireless connected communicative heat pump with a Nexia Home Intelligence thermostat. Less than six days after calling Cape Fear we had Stephen the lead technician and two other installers show up at 9am and they finished right around 5pm. They did an excellent job, they cleaned up after themselves and Stephen answered a lot of my questions. They also sealed all my vents, and they also took the time to run through my new thermostat with me. This is my story....After suffering the heat for 2 days without air-conditioning in our home, and calling the company that installed our air conditioner in our newly built home 6 years earlier; and I wasn't too enthused about using them, since I had to use them once before a few years earlier since the air conditioner was not working,. .. . Anyway today, they were unable to get to us for 3 more days. They then said maybe the next day which would have been on the weekend, but for a higher hourly cost. They did suggest to me, to try and call some other Air conditioning company, and see if I could get someone else to come sooner. So on 31 August, about 12 noon, and after searching the Web I came across Cape Fear Air conditioning and I called them, and got an appointment time right away. They were able to send a technician, but it would not be until sometime between 5 and 6 pm. I told them that would be fine. The technician Brad showed up around 5:20. Based on my experience with home repairs of this kind at other times in my life, and I'm 78. Cape fear Air was one of the best companies you could ever want too repair your air conditioner or heat pump. The technician Brad, was one of the best; if not the best air conditioner technician I ever met, and I knew a few. since I had worked as an instructor at Fayetteville technical community college. After a few pleasantries'; and answering some questions Brad had; then explaining how long our air conditioner wasn't working. Brad went right to work and what seemed like no time he was finished and cold air was circulating throughout our home. Unless times change drastically I will always, and I mean until the end of time call Cape Fear Air conditioning for our Cape Air conditioning or heating repairs problems since my unit is a heat pump unit. The fate of others can be ultimately can be in your hands or others when decisions are render for transactions. I contacted Angi, Thumbtack, and Network as a quick references with the perspective of obtaining estimates for an hvac system. "If you believe that the Easter Bunny is coming this Christmas or the sun will rise in the North and set in the South than you believe in fairy tales. We all know that anyone can pay Angi and advertise but can a company deliver. There's an old motto I live by do not advertise if you can not deliver. "Angie's List (www.angieslist.com) is a paid-for business directory and review portal. Users can search for information on various types of ..." This is their own words. I contacted Cape Fear AC, Heating and Electrical Company for an hvac estimate. The company sent Mr. Jeff Nance to the residents for the estimate. Mr. Nance sent me his estimate which was not within the range Angi List had provided. Therefore, he was directly informed of the ripoff price and he decided to selectively end the email conversation and close any further communications. However, I decided to second an additional email-"Questions as follows-1. Are there other brands of hvac's? 2. Company warranty for installment? 3. Price of continuous yearly maintenance? 4. Federal/ state rebates? 5. Negotiating price? 6. Finance vs cash? 7. Matching prices? 8. Veterans , seniors, federal employees, union discounts or ex- law enforcement discounts?   Also, you did not list the prices for the units. When there are a gap in communication of any transactions it is to believed that you are less valued or the company just say "F" you.  We all know that there are those out their that can not overcome vestiges of the past practices and are the norm for daily rip-offs if you are the wrong color. read more

We had a maintenance contract with a national company who also installed our current heating/AC unit approximately 8-9 years ago. This maintenance contract provided us with 24-hour emergency service. On a Monday evening as a snow storm approached, our heat went out. The following morning, we called the company early in the morning to let them know we had an emergency situation with no heat at all in the house, that we had a service contract and the unit was covered under an extended warranty. We were told that we would get a call back later that day, so I took the day off to meet the tech. We never saw a tech nor did we receive a follow up phone call. The next morning, my wife followed up and a tech finally arrived around lunchtime. He examined the system and stated that there were two parts that needed to be replaced to get the heat started again. He called his parts department and reported that both parts would not be available for another 3-5 days. Due to our office hours and business travel, my wife asked how we were supposed to keep the pipes from freezing and our pets cared for during the day and the tech referred her to his supervisor. The supervisor recommended space heaters until they could get the parts, which meant someone was going to have to be at home all the time until repairs could be made. Frustrated, my wife asked why no one called the prior day, and the supervisor told her that they didn't work on Tuesday, despite being told repeatedly someone would be contacting us that day. She asked if we could pay for expedited shipping since we were facing single digit temperatures that week. His response: It was an issue with the manufacturer and he told her she would have to call his company's parts department and the manufacturer. No offer to assist with this, the onus was on us to see what could be done. Yes, there were a lot of people without heat during the storm but this left us with the impression that they did not care about helping a long-time customer, even when we offered to pay for the additional expense. Fortunately, I was given the recommendation from someone at work to call Cape Fear A/C and Heating. Faced with the possibility of my wife canceling an urgent business trip or forcing me to take time off from work in the midst of a crucial project, my wife called the manufacturer while I contacted Cape Fear. The Cape Fear technician understood the emergency situation and agreed to come out that night. The contact at the Warranty Department for the manufacturer seemed surprised the national company couldn't get the parts and advised that Cape Fear was approved to work on the unit under the extended warranty. The tech found one of the parts in stock we were told was needed to fix the heat and brought it with him when he arrived about 8pm. He thoroughly tested the system, including taking video of the work he was doing, and found that the other part did not need immediate replacement. He provided us with reports and technical readouts so we could be assured of no danger from carbon monoxide and took the time to explain what they all meant. He told us the second part would likely need replacement within the next year, but after exhaustive and thorough testing and examination, we were comfortable that it did not need immediate replacement and the system was restarted after replacing the part that he brought with him. The tech from Cape Fear didn't have to come out on Wednesday night to work on our system. Since we weren't on their service plan, he could have put us on the schedule for the next day, or even later. But he understood the emergency situation and genuinely cared about doing the right thing for a customer, whether we had a service plan with them or not. That kind of service is hard to find and Stephen Rardon proved he is that guy. When he mentioned Cape Fear's yearly maintenance program and what it covered, I did not hesitate to sign up to replace the program we were scheduled to renew with the other company this spring. We'll be using Cape Fear for all of HVAC needs in the future. read more

This company has really disappointed me. They were good for the last 3-4 years that I have used them, but now, they are really bad. I have had a maintenance appointment rescheduled for the FOURTH time, and I just canceled their services altogether. I work every day, and I have to arrange time off for appointments. I planned on using them to replace my old HVAC system, but I will now go with another company. Our old builders grade system finally gave out. We called several places for quotes and this team made the process simple and easy. They were very prompt and knowledgeable. The entire process was completed in less than a week. They listened so well that they even fixed a collapsed duct that had not worked in our bonus room since we originally purchased the house brand new. Kudos, Kudos, Kudos and bravo Cape Fear! Based on my experience with Cape Fear, I don't think you can go wrong choosing them to give you a great experience and deal to install a heat pump in your home. When you go online and start getting quotes, and wondering if you should do it now or wait, etc. I personally want to say that after getting about 10 quotes and wondering the same thing, and having Shane Lucas give me a quote on a Trane unit that was a better unit at a lower cost than all of the others, I'm about 6 months out still wondering what the catch was. The installers were great and done in about 4 hours, which was a few hours less than they anticipated. I always like a company that undersells and over-delivers. I had an issue at 8 pm the other night and it turned out to be electrical. The tech came out that night and did not charge me even though it had nothing to do with their work and we came up with a workaround until they sent out an electrician (I did have to pay for the electrician but that was fair). I am looking forward to having my first year's service done for free as well which was a part of the install deal that they were offering at the time of my install. Every company wants to grow and some grow so fast that they have great reviews from a time that they were smaller and great. I hope that Cape Fear continues to grow and manages to still stay great. They have truly earned my personal and professional recommomendation based on my experience and it's refreshing to be 100% sure that you can give your recommendation and write a 100% positive review of a company based on my very thorough process that drove my wife a little crazy. ;-) I also want to say that if you're wondering whether you'll save money on energy and if you can go with a smaller ton unit than was installed in your home the answer is and absolute YES! This was the only company that gave me the details of their load test to determine the CORRECT sizing of the unit for my home. There are a few others that will do the calculation but won't show you the details. I went from an old 8-SEER Goodman to a 16-SEER Trane with a variable speed air handler which I highly recommend because it does a much better job keeping the humidity down (when used properly) which is a huge factor in the comfort of your home and the efficiency of your unit. I also recommend a wireless thermostat where you can see how changing the settings affect your runtime which directly relates to your energy savings. I've reduced my energy bill by about 30% every months since I had the unit replaced (too bad my water bill has gone up for some reason or it would be more). If all of this sounds too complicated, it doesn't need to be. Call Cape Fear and ask for Shane and he will help you make the choice that is best for you. I own a state of the art York gas furnace and A/C system that was installed 5 years ago by another HVAC company. It didn't work properly right from the start. After 5 years of frustration, I called Cape Fear to fix my Furnace after the other company could not. Jeff responded the next day after I called, ordered parts under warranty, and then recommended I call the Gas Company to check my service before they came back out. The Gas guy took one look at my equipment and said it needed replacing. They replaced all the gas equipment outside of my house. I called back Cape Fear Heating and Air expecting..."who is this??", but instead I got: Hey Mr D, did the gas company check your service.....and...we have the parts Jeff ordered, when can we come out! Next day, Frank showed up (Jeff was out that day) and said I have your part....and he went to work. Frank replaced the Gas Valve (which was damaged by the previous company) and started trouble shooting. After a short time he announced my furnace was fixed. Problem was a dirty Flame Sensor......and except for the broken part....repair cost was ZERO. My entire HVAC system works FLAWLESSLY for the first time in 5 years. Thank You Cape Fear HVAC, you guys are Awsome! Your pricing is more than reasonable, and your techs are Highly Competent!!!! I cannot forget to mention Caroline in the Office who knew EVERYTHING about my situation!! What a pleasure working with you all. I have been so disappointed with several service related Fayetteville businesses, you guys are a shining example of what an honest, well qualified service company should be! A little over a year ago Cape Fear Heating and Air came out to my house and replaced the entire A/C unit. The job was done in one day and the unit worked great! A few days ago it went out (as things do). Being a tenant I have to kind of wait at the mercy of my Landlord. Feeling like the devil himself was visiting me and my family and brining all his heat with him, my phone rang and it was an angel on the other end named "Dena"!!! She was awesome she answered all my questions and set up a visit from the tech. That is when the second angel of Cape Fear Air "Chris" came out and looked at the unit to see what was wrong. (You all may think I am going overboard with calling these two angels but try living with a 3 year old and a 19 year old in a 90+ degree house it is NOT fun!!!!!)Turns out it was pretty bad the whole compressor went out and a huge price tag was attached to the repair. My home owner was able to talk to Dena at Cape Fear Air and turns out he could still add the warranty on the system to cover the situation that had just taken place. The order was placed and a cool 70 degree house was in our future we just had to wait on the part to come in. It took 2 days from the time Chris came until the unit was completed and up and running (only because we had to wait on a part). On the way to my house to finish the install Chris (the tech) noticed a large number of sheriff deputies were stopping cars and checking ID. He made a call to the home office to alert them of this. Dena sent me a text to give me a heads up, she knew I was at work and my kids were at home. To me this was an above and beyond move from Cape Fear Heating and Air. They took the time to do an amazing repair and make sure my family was safe at the same time!! If you are searching around for a trustworthy family caring company then you found it!!
