Caped FCU has been the absolute worse banking experience the past year. Hard to get competent personnel to assist. Generally need a manager to get tho gs done. Too many bad experiences to list. I hate it when a bank teller asks me what I intend to spend MY money on when I ask for a cash withdrawal. They also want to know where the money came from when you deposit a check over a modest amount. NOYB. Also if you want to deposit a few thousand in cash they ask where you got the money from, again NOYB! If the Fed's are requiring you to ask then you, as a banking institution, need to push back on them. You are supposed to be working for me and not the Fed's! As a teacher, I get great loan rates at CapEd, but it's just not worth it. Both of the loans I've had with them went terrible. Each time, after I set up auto pay, the auto pay didn't work and, instead of contacting me, CapEd reported me as delinquent to the credit agencies, knocking my credit score down. Not only that, but after paying cash to close out the loans when I'd finally had enough, CapEd continued to withdraw money from my ICCU account that was connected to it. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the second loan included a monthly "insurance" payment that I hadn't been warned of. Another thing, while I was in the branch once, I inquired about HELOC options and the guy who "helped" me ran a hard credit check on me without my authorization. All in all, this is by far the worst banking institution I've ever dealt with, which is saying a lot! read more

I had a 9.9% interest rate on my Visa card through them for years. They recently made everyone switch to a Mastercard credit card. They told me my rate would stay the same. Lo and behold the new rate jumped to 17 percent :( I have excellent credit ! I'm so disappointed and will be shopping around for a better credit card. read more

They care more about themselves than they care about their members. They are more like a regular banking institution than a credit union. New branches are opened that do not provide teller assistance in drive thru. If you go inside, they try to encourage you to use the stack of ATM's they have INSIDE. They recently rolled out new debit cards that you are FORCED to convert to...going from VISA to MasterCard. I honestly hate doing business with them anymore and plan to move my account to a more member friendly credit union. Problem is I have so many payments set up for autopay with them making it a pain to switch....but I'm going to. read more

Not very often do I rant but I need to share my experience in hope to bring Capital Educators Credit Union into 2021. My husband and I have a long established accounts with Cap Ed, well over 30 years. Yesterday I went in to open a new safety deposit box. I requested the $40 charge be taken from our SHARED account. I was informed that they would need to call my husband at work to get his permission for me to use $40 from our shared account. READ THAT AGAIN AND LET IT SINK IN. They needed his permission for me to use OUR money from OUR ACCOUNT. The bank manager informed me that it was bank policy. I told them that it was antiquated and offensive! I resent being treated as a second class citizen!! Shame on you CapEd Credit Union! We will be moving our accounts. read more

These guys are horrible! Not only do they refuse to help you they also will submit insurance on your loan, when they have the documentation they just refuse to actually take time to call and verify and then they force you to have insurance that is a deductible of $500 but yet they are not paying for the insurance. They then refuse to correct the payments from the insurance they put on your loan and then decide that even though you made your payment and they didn't fix the insurance they are going to report you to the credit bureaus as 30 days late even after telling you in email confirmation that the payment was made and that the insurance was removed as well as stating in an email that we would not be reported. I had the displeasure of talking with Seth in their call center recently. He was condescending, rude, and it felt like he didn't actually care about my concerns. It was like talking with a robot programmed to get someone off the phone as quickly as possible. The one thing I can say is that he did fix my issue, but it was in the most irritating and painful way possible. I tried to deposit my college refund into a new checking account so that I could pay rent due to a financial situation. They deposited it no problem, then a few days later they took it back out of my account without saying ANYTHING. And this was after I had already payed my rent so now I'm nearly $1,000 in the hole. Making sure the check is not voided is part of their job, and they are telling me I should've known that. It's your job to check for feasible checks!!! They have been sending me mail with screenshots of the check with "void after 90 days". If it's so easy to see on the check then why couldn't you do your job properly. They didn't even look at the check. Just put it right into the system without realizing. So unprofessional, this is peoples money and these mistakes are unacceptable. read more

I wish I knew how horrible this back is before I accepted my car loan from them. This month I made the final payment, they processed the payment twice, which was a big overpayment! They notified me by email at 5:13, when there was nothing I could do about it from the other bank. Then they told me I had to fix it, by coming into a branch and withdrawing the money from a checking they forced me to have, one the overpayment credited (7 to 10 days) or I could request a check, again after 7 to 14 days! They did nothing to help and put all the cleaning up on me! They get to keep the overpayment for up to 2 weeks, money my family needs. DO NOT USR THIS BANK!!! IF YOU LIKE CUSTOMER SERVICE, COMMUNICATION OR CORRECT USEAGE OF YOUR MONEY DO NOT USE CAP ED!! I wish I could rate less than 1 star. read more

I love CapEd, I've been banking with them for literally my whole life! My dad opened up a savings account for me when I was a kiddo and I've since opened two debit cards and a credit card with them. Their app is pretty easy to use but I do prefer to go into the branches. They are always very nice, even when it's busy! When someone got ahold of my card information and fraudulent charges showed up in my bank they were very helpful with the process of getting a new card and they printed a new card right in the branch! I've had plenty of issues with some other banks I've tried and I've always gone back to CapEd! read more

I've been a member at CapEd since I was a baby when my parents set up my savings account. I've been to all of them around the treasure valley but this is the one I frequent based on where I live. They have always been nice and courteous, whether I drive through or walk in. I haven't had to deal with a lot of banking things so far in my life, loans and whatnot, so I can't give them an accurate review based on that. But as far as quick transfers, checks and deposits, it's always a breeze. Only disappointment: sometimes when I walk in and there is a huge line there is only one window open. You can see there are plenty employees talking to each other behind the desk. It's not a huge deal, but as someone in customer service, you should never let that happen. read more

Not many locations, people must train there for better jobs, no one seems to be able to do anything without speaking to a manager. I can't make a deposit unless I am at one of their offices. They don't have cash machines that print images of your checks you deposit. Rates of interest are low on everything. read more

I simply wanted to do a wire transfer. I went to one branch and no one knew/trained to be able to do this for me. I drove across town to a larger branch and had to wait 45 minutes for a financial person to help me. WTH, this credit union has taken 35 years backward steps. We have better technology to do these transactions then 30 years ago when I was a teller. There's always a problem! read more

CapEd is by far the worst bank I have ever banked with twice now their Bank has went down and I have not been able to use my card not even sure when it'll be back up and running nobody there at any site location will answer their phone I have literally sit there on the phone for an hour waiting for someone to pick up and on top of all that they're ATM machines are the worst I have wanted to pull money out of my account and nothing that was coming out so then I begin to leave to go inside and their machine start spending all over my money out on the road in my opinion this is the worst bank anybody could ever bank with and if I could give this back zero Stars I would. read more

Early Friday afternoon....of course I expected lines...HolyMoleey!! There was a line... I saw the side bankers come up and help out the front. I was patient...Blessed with patience... I had to get a new debit card to replace the one I thought I had lost. They print them right there which is nice. So busy, I think the gal forgot about me. Pre-school graduate walks up and strikes a conversation. I was his captive audience. He was quite entertaining. Told me and handed a Dr. Seuss book on the table. I was standing after 10 minutes. I didn't know the printer took so long. But I had some tasty popcorn to munch on with my new friend as we waited. A banker from the side came out and asked what I was waiting on and she said she'd be right back with my card. Thank YOU. She wished me a good weekend (close to an apoligy) and I left my friend. He shouted as I left. "Bye! You forgot to read me this book!"... Sorry buddy, told his dad on the way out he's got a good kid... read more

I'm so glad I was in a tragic car accident that also totaled the car I had financed thru them.Eeven though I kept in constant contact with them( they were paid the full principle in two weeks, then my Gap coverage paid and the Dealer Gap reimbursement) I didn't think I needed to make a payment since they were being paid by everyone. No one told me in the 10 times I called, the 3 times I went in person that it still needed to be paid while all this was going on. I find out AFTER they hit my Credit Report dropping it 120 points saying I was over 30 days late on my car payment. When I called to ask about it, I was treated like I habitually didn't make my payments, having NEVER been late once, I was told that the people I talked to weren't aware of the policies and there wasn't any indication that they would have seen in my account to bring any attention to the matter.So all the employees aren't EDUCATED IN HOW A POLICY WORKS? Thanks to them, the 3 years I worked my butt off to build my credit to be able to buy a car from a dealer, I'm back to square one, minus the car and 120 points on my report. Not one once of understanding, empathy, nothing. This is after i opened a checking/savings account due to promotion they were having to which I was supposed to get $100 if met the criteria in so many days. Every attempt I tried to use my debit card to get the 12 transactions, it wouldn't work, so I stood embarrassed in the middle of a store trying to fix it on the phone and used my other account to pay. I was told it was fixed. So again, tried to use the card and nope. Still not fixed. this actually took two more times and an in person visit.So I lost out on the promo because they failed to update my new address properly, 4 times.I can't wait to move my truck loan once I get MY CREDIT SCORE BACK TO WHERE IT WAS. read more

We've been a member of CapEd for over 15 years and I can't believe how bad they've gotten after their system switchover. Did they switch out the courteous and competent employees, too? Any emergency issues with your account, including lockouts from an incorrect pin, will have to be dealt with during branch business hours. Large purchase that triggers their fraud freeze system? Miss that robocall and you might get the automated system to unfreeze your account, or you'll just get a message that you'll have to call back during business hours. Good luck! End up in the unfortunate situation where you have to use Courtesy Pay, but the transaction is denied and you have to call in and confirm that it is you making the transaction before trying again? You WILL be charged for both, even though the first attempt was rejected and you therefore didn't actually use the service. Try to call and get issues with your account on their end solved? Not only will they not get solved, but they'll treat you as if you are an idiot for not just accepting their explanation, whether it makes sense or not. And now I've discovered that there is apparently very important transaction information about your account that they can see, but you can't. Convenient. After moving away from Boise and discovering the difficulties of shared branch banking, we decided to open a local credit union account. They had their own core banking system switchover last October that had caused myriad problems, and many of them have yet to be sorted out. Those issues caused us to find a solid credit union that we could do shared branching through and start slowly moving our business back to CapEd, but after the last few weeks, I think we'll be sticking with our old system. That other credit union may be a headache, but CapEd has become a nightmare. read more

For the second time in 3 weeks my card has been restricted at night leaving me unable to use my card until they open. This time it happened on a Friday night at 11pm. I made a mobile deposit last Friday before 2, the check was for $712. $500 was deposited automatically, and $212 was not put into our account until Tuesday morning, the same time a check I wrote Friday evening went through, of course, the check went through right before depositing the rest of my check from days earlier, allowing them to tack on a $25 "courtesy fee." Even though it was obvious that the money was there, they still did this. I have to ask myself, Why will they automatically deposit the majority of my check, and hold a couple hundred back? To make sure my paycheck is good? What if it wasnt? What diffrence would it really make if they went after them for $500 or the full $712? Not much...right? So, I cant help but wonder if they dont do this as a way of collecting fees from people. Adding insult to injury, when I called to talk with them about this, the representative was extremely rude, and was in no way helpful. My husband and I have decided to close this account that we have had with them for many years. I will never recommend this institution to anyone. read more
