Dr. Capella did my breast augmentation. A couple of months after it was done, I could start to feel my implants. I went in and he told me it was because I lost weight, and there was no solution. Now, about 4 years later, I had to have a breast revision because not only were both breasts lopsided, but the implants were misplaced...one over my muscle and one under. It was a much more extensive surgery than anticipated because of what the surgeons saw when they opened me up. Looking back, they looked good for about 1 year. Outcome and Aftermath: Peripheral Neuropathy The surgery was unsuccessful, with only a fraction of the intended procedure completed. As a result, I experienced severe and permanent complications: Scarring: Prior to the procedure, I was informed that a medical cream would effectively minimize scarring. However, this claim was later contradicted post-surgery. I was left with thick, dark-colored scars, and no viable solution was offered. Excess Skin: A core objective of the surgery--the removal of excess skin--was not fulfilled. Approximately one-third of the excess skin remains. Nerve Damage: I now suffer from extensive numbness, approximately four inches wide, encircling my waist from just below the scar line to the groin. This is consistent with significant nerve trauma. Over time, the damage also led to numbness around the waist, to the groin, and the lower legs and feet. Treatment and Conduct: When I approached the surgeon regarding possible opinions for addressing the complications, his miscommunication and response were marked by unprofessional, dismissive, and disrespectful behavior. The issue remained unresolved, and no apology or accountability was offered. When these complications were brought to the surgeon's attention, they were largely dismissed. No meaningful investigation was undertaken, no follow-up care was provided, and no effort was made to support my recovery or explore corrective options. In addition, a preoperative agreement concerning the use of a specific anesthesiologist was disregarded without my knowledge or consent. This breach of agreement further contributed to a breakdown in trust and a lack of confidence in the care I received. During the initial consultation, we discussed a two-stage surgical plan. The first procedure would address the upper body, followed by a second surgery a few years later. However, after the first operation, the surgeon noted that a future procedure would now be significantly more difficult due to the incision and complications caused during the initial surgery. As a result of the damage inflicted in that first operation, I am left feeling permanently imbalanced, deformed, and physically uncomfortable. These failures have resulted in ongoing emotional and psychological consequences, including depression, anxiety, and deep distress over the physical disfigurement and loss of sensation. Rath than feeling renewed or improved, I have been left physically altered and emotionally diminished. Instead of feeling thin, I am left feeling nothing at all. read more
