Used Capital Crab to cater a private family crab feast and it was a most fun party - the crabs fresh and meaty, cooked just right with plenty of spices, and services good. Just found out also that in August during crab season they also provide a crab feast at the newly opened restaurant The Avenue (same owner) in Chevy Chase Sundays from 1-4 pm ($65/pp prebook, $75 walk in).

A roach that was killed with the menu as it was running across the table

One of the worse experiences at a seafood spot in DC. We visited this location to celebrate a friends birthday. Before the water would even reach the table there was a large roach crawling across one of the menus. We notified the stay and they asked what we would like to do. We stated we no longer felt comfortable at that corner table. Finally after about 15 minutes of sitting at a table with a smushed roach on a menu, they relocated us. After another 10 minutes we were served the drinks we ordered prior to the roach issue. Initially when we were sat at the first table we were served with glasses, the new table they gave us plastic cups. When we asked why the difference, the serves response was does it matter? What kind of response was that? When we asked for straws the same young man brought the UNWRAPPED straw with his BARE hands and sat it on the table. We were stunned at the lack of hygiene. A few of us were ready to leave the location right there but the birthday person wanted to stay.. so we did. The orders were taken as the lady continued to play with and pull back her hair while taking the order. We proceeded through the meal, the food was tasty. There was no attempt to compensate for the experience and lack of hygiene... nor an attempt to have the manager, whose name is apparently Tim to come over to the table (after being requested during the roach issue). I know I will not be returning to this establishment and will make sure that everyone I knows is aware of this establishments lack of cleanliness, hygiene and professionalism. Update - After Tim left his response below.. I emailed him at the email address provided the next day. I have yet to receive a response as of today 8.14.19. So that leaves me to add lack of management follow up to the list.

    Had a great time!

Had the best time at Capital Crab! The crabs and crab cakes are awesome and the Caesar salad is yummy. Ask for Katie & Drew as your wait staff. They are awesome... bringing extra lemons and old bay to table without even asking. We sat outside and it was perfect. High

When you google "why is crab meat mushy".

Do they have any non-seafood items on the menu?

Yes they do but its a very small menu. Since they just opened its probably best to call ahead to confirm.

They had staples like brisket, which was tender and specials like the smoked wings, which had so much smoky flavor to it. The pork rib pastrami was tasty but a little dry and the sausages were decent. The sides definitely amplified the meal and I really liked how they put a unique twist on the sides. The harissa carrots were really good, and their Napa cabbage slaw made me think of Korean water kimchi, because it was so refreshing. They also had lemon toasted potatoes and Mac and cheese. The meal came with huge pieces of bread, bbq sauce, pickles, and tzatziki sauce. For dessert we tried the bread pudding, which was soft and gooey, and what looked like a s'mores rice crispy, which you can't go wrong with.

Took my brutha here to celebrate his birthday and it's basically an upscale carryout. A couple sets of (8) chairs outside and a few benches inside - all occupied. Plus, it's too chilly to be eating outside...so we took the food to his place up the street. No worries - food will be good, right?? First the good: That hearty smokiness of summertime barbecue wafted from the front door as I walked up, had me totally turned on. Service was excellent from the guy waiting on us. Now, the rest.... + The (full slab) beef ribs were dry, oversalted and tough. + The pound of lamb shank I ordered didn't taste like lamb. I actually thought they had forgotten to give me my order. Their smoking process shouldn't overwhelm the natural earthiness I was expecting - from lamb. + The fried chicken was moist and juicy with a nice crunch. Decently seasoned too. + The garlic potatoes tasted old. + Assorted sauces we good...enough. + Rolls are tasteless. I could've taken my brother to a thousand other places and spent far less than $89, and we were both disappointed with this one. The bag was heavy too so we were falsely encouraged initially. There's parking right next door but we parked in the gas station across the street and walked over. I won't be returning.

They are good but not amazing. You get a ton of food, including meatballs and drunken noodles and all sorts of other weird stuff. It's all good but none of it was like, omg wow I can't wait to come back. The Thai Tea Bubble Tea was pretty yum, but the bubbles in it were not so fresh at all. I'd have enjoyed it more if I had ordered it without bubbles. Overall a great experience. My first food in DC after driving non stop from Pittsburgh, where I had just driven to from Buffalo. A crazy long drive which ended in me eating a ton of food from this truck and so it will always be a really positive memory for me. But if you've already tried it and enjoyed it, then I just Sang to the choir. Wheeeeeelllllls... I better be going. I have to talk to my friends from Ireland, Scotland, and Wheels.
