The crawfish had a kick to them along with lemongrass flavors. The blue crabs didn't disappoint. They came out hot and were juicy. The place inside was slow but we got there around 4:30. There were plenty of to go orders going out the door. The server checked on us frequently and we were never waiting on our order of crabs. JC Crab House was a huge disappointment. The crabs were overpriced, overcooked, and undersized. I paid $120 for a dozen "XL" females that were actually more like mediums. Even considering it's off-season, the size didn't match what was advertised. On top of that, they tasted off, almost like they weren't fresh, the texture of the crab meat was dry/ mushy and the garlic butter was terrible. The drinks didn't help either--the sweet tea and half & half both tasted horrible. Service was average at best, nothing that made up for the rest of the experience. And to top it off, they automatically added an 18% gratuity for a party of 4 (20% for parties over 6), which felt excessive given the quality or lack thereof. The place looks nice inside good tables for crabs. Server was friendly. I had the all you can eat crabs. Was very pricey $70. Especially since all the crabs were either light, small, or females. They make you pay up front (with tip) which was a big turn off. The crabs were steamed well but they had an odd aftertaste maybe it's their seasoning blend almost has a soy sauce taste. We stopped in last weekend. It is cleanly decorated, and service was efficient. Food was piping hot and fresh! They had half priced oysters on fridays, which we took advantage of. I must say JC's has the best crabs of anyplace I've been...and I've been to almost every crab house in the state! I go with a friend who also loves them, and we order the large or extra large males and they are heavy and juicy. We always have some left to take home. I recommend JCs over any other. read more

Very good customer service. Yao was our server. We ordered snow crab legs and they were the juiciest tasting crab legs I've ever had. Fried jumbo shrimp and scallops are also so good. Decor is very nautical cute in the dining area. This place is pricey but does not cut on quality. I was very satisfied I chose this as it was recommended by a friend all the way in Rockville. I have been going to JC Crab House for a few years now. They have yet to disappoint. Some say it is a little expensive, but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. So I am very pleased. I always get the jumbo or extra large crabs, oysters and shrimp and the crabs are heavy and I normally cannot eat more than 3 or 4. And everything, EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS!!!! The customer service is great. They are personable and very nice. I have a severe allergy to lemon (and other fruit) and they keep the note attached to my phone number and it comes up every time I call even when I forget to mention it. This is one of the better crab spots in the Silver Spring area. They have a large area where you can eat your crabs there or you can take them to go. They also have a menu of other items on the menu, like shrimp platters, hush puppies, fried oysters etc. But I have not tried them. Their crabs are pretty good, it's rare that I will have a bad crab. Naturally crabs can be on the pricey side but this place doesn't take advantage. Their customer service is always great, no complaints there. read more

We got: - Steamed crabs with old bay - Crab sauce which has like ten different ingredients (this is a separate charge but they give you the container to take home as well) - crawfish - Fries - onion rings The Fries came out first and I have to say it was perfectly cooked. Someone knows how to deep fry back there (not dripping oil and perfect crisp. We had to order the onion ring since the fries were done so well. Crabs were tasty. I am giving 5 Stars for the quality of the Steamed Male Crabs that are tasty and excellent! The Fried Croaker and French Fries are very good also. The tartar sauce is home made. I don't recommend the Fried Whiting which has a strange breading/coating. The Cole Slaw needs help, not tasty. The Fried Jumbo Shrimp is fresh and has good flavor, but the batter is thick and overwhelming. I dislike that AMEX is not accepted. We know that AMEX costs more to operate, but why are you so inflexible to make that extra cost a priority over customer satisfaction? read more

Giving this 5 stars. We had the crab combo B (1 doz large blue crabs, 2 king crab clusters, 1lb steamed shrimp) plus a bucket of 5 beers (+2 extra bees) plus hush puppies. Everything was awesome. The blue crabs were heavy and sweet, hush puppies were yummy. A++. Just what we wanted on Labor Day weekend here in MoCo when we're not at the beach. One comment .... Usually at crab snacks they give butter and/or vinegar on request. Here they do... but $5 for melted butter and $2 for vinegar. My advice to the shop is this.... Charging for vinegar and butter at a crab shack in MD is culturally unusual when dining in the restaurant and may put off some customers. I'd say just add $0.50 to each order of crabs and include the condiments, and you don't need to give quite so much quantity. In any event we will be back. FYI. I read some of the few negative comments here and they are somewhat bizarre. One guy complains that $80 is too much for 1doz crabs ... he expected to get 18 for that price (what????) Updated review. I understand that COVID is driving the price up food. That said, the price for crabs is absurd. Many similar restaurants have high prices if not higher. I have to say, if you are going to charge me almost $50 for 6 large male crabs, I think it is reasonable to expect them to be: 1. Actually large. 2. Clean 3. Not look like they have been in a drive-by shooting. On a good note, they were seasoned well. I have seen reviews of people complaining about the saltiness of their seafood, but I believe that is actually coming from the old bay seasoning that is used. We came here for dinner on a very cold night, apparently most folks were staying in but we hadn't moved into our house yet so not much choice but to venture out. Hubby got a crab cake sandwich and fries, I got a fried jumbo shrimp and scallop combo plate with Caesar and Cole slaw, and we shared a lemonade. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the Cole slaw, but it is a personal preference thing not a quality thing. Theirs is vinegar based rather than mayo based and vinegar and I aren't exactly buddies. But, honestly I got pretty full from the rest of my meal. The quality of the seafood was great; very fresh, not gamey, the scallops were perfect texture, and the shrimp terrific as well. I like that the breading was light and crisp. The salad was pretty standard but hit the spot. I had a bite of hubby's food, I liked the fries and it was refreshing to have a crab cake that was clearly more crab than filler. The homemade lemonade was sweet and refreshing. Prices were a little high for it to be an every week thing, but the quality was there to support the price. Love it! My husband and I first came over the summer when looking for a seafood restaurant with quality offerings. We each ordered a delicious platter with exactly enough seafood and sides to satisfy our cravings and level of hunger. It wasn't cheap, but it was mouthwateringly good and we have done takeout a few times since when looking for quality seafood in a timely fashion. I really like that they have two sinks outside of the bathroom for ease of access before and after a meal. It's a cute clean restaurant, especially considering how messy eating blue crabs can be. We were also able to buy mallets and paper there for not much more along with garlic butter sauce. And everything is very clean & secure with covid19 -- plexiglass is up, only 2 ppl in at once and everyone is masked, and they have an interesting contraption to slide your food to you and your credit card. I don't understand the negative reviews of this place. Some crabs were missing a couple legs but this is NORMAL when you order crabs. None of the crabs were "dirty". Impressed with first experience and being during COVID. Large crabs were MD. XLrg & Super SC, MD coming soon. Staff very friendly, carry out was set up nicely as to not spread germs. May be a bit pricey but you pay for crabs. Flavor was good and just right amount of seasoning. Shrimp was good and corn cooked perfectly. Little on the small side but early for corn season. The crab cake sandwich was just ok.. the meat was fresh and a good texture but everything else (the bun, the lettuce and fries) were less than stellar; pretty soggy all around. I would say skip the crab balls! All filler, very hard to tell if there is any actual crab meat.. tons of corn and who knows what else... Sadly I don't think we will go back, which is sad because it is the closest crab place to where we live. read more
