The layers were new plywood, mesh, two coats of cement, a coating to give traction and then two coats of Monterey Grey paint. After signing a contract with Robb the follow thru was not professional. I asked repeatedly about what was going on and did not get any feedback unless they wanted more money. On the contract I put the color of the decking to be Monterey Gray and when they painted it Sand Biege and I questioned Robb he got angry at my suggestion to check it out. I do not live near the property but made a special trip to inspect all the balconies and at that time Robb admitted they made a big mistake and offered to repaint but I didn't want my tenants bothered any further nor was any compensation offered. read more

Our HOA hired this company to make the required mandated balcony repairs and they caused thousands of dollars in damage to our new pool as well as multiple owners balconies. They were asked over 10 times to clean up after themselves and left the work areas a disaster for weeks at a time therefore caused staining to our recently renovated decking. The HOA at my former property hired this company to replace a roof. The three stars reflects a mixture of good and bad aspects of the contract. The good: The quote was competitive and the communication process was initially good. Moreover, the installation team is experienced, the final product looks good, and is performing well. They also have a long warranty. The bad: There were three problems. First, the demo subcontractor was understaffed (leading to delays) and were not safe (throwing concrete off a three story building). Second, there were unforeseen issues resulting is substantial cost overruns. It's unclear the overruns were necessary (the demo team removed a lot of concrete that had to be replaced). But, more problematic, the bill was excessive and, during the negotiation process, Capital Deck walked off the job, leaving our roof protected by a tarp in November. When asked for a cost break down of the cost overruns, Capital Deck refused. They only came down when we secured another bid. I found this negotiating tactic to be unprofessional. Third, the communication and planning was mediocre, leaving us unsure when people would be showing up each day. This isn't a problem when fixing a back yard deck, but is problematic when they need access to the house. read more

The worst company ever! The previous HOA in my apartment building hired this company to do several balcony repairs. They damaged the balconies and backyard, left all debris in our newly remodeled pool area causing thousands of dollars in damage. The whole pool area and backyard are covered in stains, debris and damage! The pool is covered with the debris they left behind, stained, and unsafe for anyone to use. My kids used to enjoy/use our pool daily! We were unable to use it since the end of the summer due to all the debris in our backyard! We tried to contact them to clean after themselves but never heard anything back. The quality is horrible. The balconies are done incorrectly, leaving our homeowners with another $$$$ damage. If you need any repairs other than waterproofing completed as part of your project they may not be the best company to use. We had extensive water damage to an exterior staircase which required a lot of the wood to be replaced. They did tell us at the beginning that we may want someone else to finish the smooth stucco but they left gaping holes in our walls and no one ever came out to inspect the project or to see if we were satisfied. We had several other contractors come out afterward and they all said the work was not done properly and would be difficult to correct. They were the most expensive estimate we received and it ended up costing us additional $4000 to complete the project. read more

Our deck, a flat roof over the garage was built in '75 with an insufficient slope. Water would collect and stay until swept or evaporated. It got worse and worse over the years. We had over 10 contractors come and give us estimates. One of them stood out, Capital waterproofing. Their representative, Abraham took the time to answer every question we had. He was patient and thorough, approaching us from the perspective that he had something of value we could acquire with no pressure or sales trickery. I work in the trades in another area so I'm familiar with techniques and materials at no point was anything offered that made me uncomfortable or feel any BS was said. This company is confident they do good work, so much so they only ask for payment upon completion. Yaniv is another all star from capital who came to answer a couple questions that arose during the project. We figured Abraham was an anomaly but Yaniv was proof that this organization hired great people. Super friendly, knowledgeable and consistent information inspired great confidence. They sent a crew of workers that we barely noticed were here other than the progress on the deck. Every day they left our place looking like it did when they arrived. And the result? They added slope and relocated the drains, we went through the tropical storm without a leak or drop of water anywhere it shouldn't have been. Five stars for Capital Deck! Prior to meeting Capital, my townhouse complex needed to repair the walking rooftop decks. We hired another company who promised to waterproof the decks. Long story short, the original work took much longer than expected (over a year) and the work was extremely problematic- both aesthetically and functionally. The roofs leaked and had numerous issues. Fast forward to finding Capital Deck and Abraham. When I told Abraham about what had occurred with our rooftops, he was compassionate and so helpful in making a plan to fix the problem. From Ghetto to Fabulous... My honyack says she would like patio furniture this time instead of a clothesline! AND might actually go out there after 18 years. Took a while to get started but that has to be because they are swamped. Communication could have been better establishing a start date from point of commitment. Was not the lowest price, but the bid was fair and I feel a decent value for the money. The wait was for good reason as the results are 2nd to none. The repair crew and the finish crew were both very clean, professional and came on scheduled dates. They did not need supervision and knew what they were doing. I would caution anyone looking to hire Capital Deck & Stair for a waterproofing project. In good faith, we entered into an agreement for a standard rooftop waterproofing effort. The first and only time I met the overseeing contractor was the first day. All our interactions were only with sales rep, who gaslighted the entire process. Trades were unsupervised- as a result, shoddy workmanship and damage to my property ensued. They also sent a registered letter -two days into the job of an impending lien if payment was not received. The supervising office manager sent a final invoice- surprised and stating ignorance if these issues. However, to date, they have refused accountability on damages and, the work effort was abandoned. I had to bring in third parties to remediate their work and overall very negative and stressful experience. read more

Abraham Handler is a LIFESAVER. We'd only recently moved in before the historic rains revealed our wrap around balcony was a rotting leaky disaster. We had to demolish multiple moldy ceilings, my kids were sleeping on the couch and grandma in a storage room. Luckily I called Shelby at Capital Deck & Stair. Despite being booked for weeks, she connected me with Abraham who miraculously appeared at my doorstep the SAME day. He took one look at our rain buckets and plastic sheeting and moved mountains to start the job ONE week later. They took NO money upfront, and the final bill came out thousands less than their estimate. Cesar and his crew could have replaced everything per the contract, but they were able to preserve all of the flashing which also saved us from costly stucco repairs. We initially had to cancel a contract with a well-known company who asked for a 40% deposit. This is ILLEGAL, but I paid it in good faith only to be given a date seven weeks out. Infuriating! We are very grateful to everyone at Capital Deck & Stair. They are trustworthy and I have no doubt they will stand by their 8 year warranty. Highly recommend. read more

I'm behind the times. I know that. My stairs and deck are made of magnesite, which is no longer made or available. Yet the deck and stairs are in good shape. There's minor chipping and cracking that needs attention but, structurally, everything's sound. When Capital's estimator reviewed the situation, he agreed that repair and resealing would be a sufficient remedy, and I accepted the company's bid. Then everything started going downhill. The estimator decided to check with a structural engineer who pointed out that new laws require replacing magnesite with newer materials. Yet the law is for structures with three or more units. I have only two. The cost of replacement, however, is three times higher. Good for Capital. Not so good for me when there's no evidence of structural instability or risks to my tenants' safety, which is the most important consideration. I decided to proceed with the repair and reseal option. I was offered a time, I accepted, and then the time was changed. I commented on the change (sarcastically), and the original schedule was returned. On the day of, the workman arrived three hours late. Yet no one at Capital bothered to notify me about delays. I had to contact Capital. When the workman finally arrived, he looked at the stairs and said, "This is magnesite." Uh-huh. That should not have come as a surprise. It was known and acknowledged from the start. After looking at the deck, he vanished. Once again, I contacted Capital and learned that the worker decided that he couldn't make the repairs with enough reliability (to ensure the cracks didn't return), so there'd be no guarantee on the work. If there'd been any question about any of this, the estimator should have consulted his craftspeople... before bidding. I shouldn't have learned on the day on which work was to be done that it was not going to be done. My two tenants can't decide whether I'm the one who's tetched (for picking Capital and disrupting their ingress/egress) or Capital's inept for not doing sufficient analysis. I'm in the latter camp. So Capital's not doing the repair and resealing, and they also won't be doing the project to replace the magnesite. I'm using someone else because, at this point, I wouldn't rely on Capital to know how to take out the trash. read more

In November of 2019, after vetting four companies, we hired Capital Deck & Stair to repair a very difficult-to-find leak. The ceiling in our kitchen kept leaking whenever it rained, and nobody could figure out where on the deck above it was coming from. Capital recommended that we repair the entire deck and flashing. They were super efficient, transparent about one cost overage, and completed the job well before the estimated completion date. They carried away every speck of the old deck. Their work is guaranteed for 8 years. We never had an issue with that deck and heavy rain again... until January 5, 2023. The kitchen ceiling is leaking again from the same spot due to the recent downpour. We called Capital to enforce the warranty. Without complaint, the owner, Philip B., came for an inspection. At no time did he try to dodge responsibility. Philip spent over an hour watering down critical parts of the deck to see if he could pinpoint the source of the leak. It turned out that the culprit was NOT Capital's work. The threshold and door frame of the deck, which was not Capital's responsibility, had peeled and rotted over the years and were no longer waterproof. While I am upset that the damn leak came back, I am extremely appreciative of Philip's efforts today, which he did for free, and Capital Deck & Stair's work on our deck, which is perfectly fine. I had some major leaking in my balcony and it started on Thanksgiving Day 2019. I had no idea who to call. After a lot of consulting and getting an outrages quote from a contractor, I found Capital Deck. Andre showed up, inspected my balcony, answered all my questions and sent me a quote the next day. Not a cheap repair but the work had to be done and it was more in line to what I thought it would cost. Come end of April, the crew showed up on time and got straight to work. After they removed all the tile and subfloor, there turned out to be a lot of rotten wood. I had to pay extra to replace all the bad wood. Ouch. I didn't have to wait for them to purchase the wood. They came prepared. The work was completed in 3 days! Wow. I don't have any complaints about their work. They saved my balcony from collapsing. Philip is unprofessional and rude. It seems when he feels too ashamed that he has postponed/flaked appointments for too long (weeeeeeks in this case), he will take it out on the customer, lashing out at them when all that's happening is asking when he will be available. He shows clear signs of passive-aggression and gaslighting in his communications, likely because he's in denial of his responsibilities and cannot face them. If you want just the base level of respect and communication, look elsewhere, especially if you're on a schedule! Hey Mr. Bromberg, some sincere advice to you: even if life happens and you sometimes need to break commitments, you can still steel up and make things better with clear communication. We had a tiled roof patio that was leaking into our home. I called three compaines for estimates to replace the tile with a waterproof coating. One estimate was ridiculous while another was competitive with Captial Deck & Waterproofing. I went along with Capital in large part because of the honesty of the salesperson and the clarity of the estimate as it was written. From the team that came out to remove over 700 square feet of tile and repair any damage (and there was plenty) to the team that coated my roof patio, they were all amazing. We were very happy with the quality of the job everyone did. In fact with any questions we had regardiing the work everyone was very helpful. This included our sales rep who got back to us to address our concerns, as well as the site managers. We were even happy with the office staff who responsed timely with any questions we may have had. In the estimate all costs were itemized so it was clear with any damage discovered during the job, we knew exactley what the costs would be. When damage was discovered we were shown the damage before they did any repairs. With the problems our patio roof caused us and the concerns of getting the job done before the rainy season, it was refreshing to have a company where they were responsive, competative, honest and even friendly from those on the job site to those in the office. read more

I had a leaking balcony and reached out to this company on yelp. Immediately the owner responded and told me his office would call me for an appointment and that they "specialized" in this type of work. They never called me but I got in touch with them and unfortunately the office staff was quite rude on the call. They told me that they could not cover my damaged balcony tile and they would have to rip out and replace it. Obviously, I expected as such and never suggested that they would merely cover damaged tile to repair a leaky balcony. So we immediately got off on the wrong foot, and I had a bad feeling, but moved forward and eventually they did schedule an appointment. Today, the appointment day, I called the office again to verify what time they would be arriving. After a prolonged hold time where I could tell something was not right, the office staff told me that "the owner looked at the scope of work and we do not have the ability to complete this job" Obviously, no one had even been to my house so there was no "scope of work" to review. They were merely basing it off of me telling them that there was damage to tile. What I gathered is obviously they did not like the conversation I had with them in the office and felt that I would be a difficult customer. That is fine, if they are that unprofessional then I wouldn't want to work with this company anyway. However, they could've had the courtesy to cancel the appointment ahead of time rather than me waiting for them all day. I anticipate a rude and defensive response to this review, based on my brief interactions with this company. A word of advice: do better. read more
