I have been wanting to come here for a long time. Shorty after I entered I was greeted by Brian. He told me a about a special they were running. Like them on Facebook and get a free DVD. The store is stocked full of goodies. They sell and buy everything. They have jewelry, gold, sliver, firearms, and electronics. Some of there prices are a little steep but the will negotiate, especially if you have cash. The staff is friendly and more then willing to help. The store is a nice place; not a like a skeezy pawn shop. Probably one of the best pawnshops in Salem. read more

I live in the neighborhood so I poke my head in about once a week or so. Really nice shop that's clean and well staffed. I love buying video games and related equipment here their prices beat any other video game store in town. My beef with them though is their gun section. Old guy that's usually behind the counter is pretty ornery and isn't really honest with his stock or his prices. No, a Chinese SKS is not worth $500. Don't lie and say a gun that's been through a war has never been fired and price it as such. A gun made in the 70's is not from the Korean war. I mean I hate to throw around strong words but I get the feeling that they don't really know what they're doing or they're just trying to part gullible people from their money. It's not all bad though, a few of their guns are fairly priced or a steal. I just find myself shaking my head half the time I see their selection. read more

I purchased an amplifier that was advertised as having been inspected and tested by Hear No Evil and being in perfect working order. Since I live in Olympia, WA and was planning to have the amplifier shipped to me without having a chance to audition it, I asked a lot of questions. The first red flag should have been when I was told there was no paperwork to validate this supposed "inspection", but Bryan, the sales guy. said "I stand behind it fully!". All the online reviews I could find about Capital Pawn were generally positive, so I chose to take him at his word. When the amplifier arrived, 4 of the 6 channels had a bad distortion problem. I contacted Bryan and asked how he would like to resolve the issue, I offered to either return the amp for a refund or they could pay for repairs at a local stereo shop. He chose the latter option and I took it to Desco AV, a trusted local repair shop I have used numerous times and they provided an estimate of $275-$375 before tax. Bryan offered to refund the low end of the estimate $300. I asked "What if the repairs are more than that?" and he said "We can work that out if that happens". Again, he seemed to be above board and so I took him at his word. When the repairs were completed, they turned out to be at the high end of the estimate. I contacted Bryan and shared the receipt with him and asked him to refund the difference of $108 between what he had initially paid me and the actual cost of repairs. My first attempt to contact him was ignored for a week. When I contacted him again after that first week, his reply was "I believe we both agreed on the $300, correct?". Incorrect. What I had said was "I would be satisfied with either a return/refund or your paying to have the amplifier repaired." At no point did I agree that it would be OK for me to pay for repairs for something that Capital Pawn advertised as being in good working order (I have a PDF of the Craigslist ad and e-mails from Bryan assuring it worked and he would "stand behind it fully"). Bryan also said that my shipping costs included insurance. I do not think the amp would have such extensive problems (4 individual channels all damaged?) from shipping, but it is possible. If so, file a claim with the shipper, and get the money to cover the entire cost of repairs from them. Bryan refused to refund the additional money that I had to spend on repairs. Capital Pawn is the place to go if you're in the market for a gun. This pawn shop has a ton of other things as well that are in really good shape and like new. I came in to look at buying a gun for my son who was turning 16 and I was extremely impressed by this place. I had a co worker who recommended this place to me. So I stopped in on my way home from work. I'm glad that I did. The Crew were all super friendly and helpful. Especially Bryan, Kat and Brad. Bryan was super knowledgeable about the guns he was showing me. Kat was really patient down to earth and helped me not feel rushed when it came to when I was trying to decide what I wanted. Brad.... Hes the man! he totally hooked me up and helped me get the scope and open sites that I wanted swapped from another like model gun to the gun I was buying. I was very impressed with their customer service. They were more than happy to hold the guns I wanted for a week until I could come back and pay for them. Kat did a great job on The back ground check, and paperwork was painless and quick. I ended up getting two guns and I felt like they were reasonably priced. Got a good deal on a camera here in the past. Probably because they low ball everyone on anything that's being brought in. Staff is hit and miss, some are friendly and some are rude. I don't think I will be back though. They low balled me and I would have taken the low ball price but she had attitude and just rubbed us the wrong way. They took my old wedding rings and said that they were only worth $400. I accepted. I wanted a louie vuitton purse in exchange. They told me that they always send an email or text telling me my payment was due received nothing. The same week I was there I drove by and the place was boarded up due to a fire I looked up online and there was a statesman journal article about the fire. It did not mention anything About them being open for business. I never received anything from them saying that my payment was due or that they were still open for business. I kept driving by during different errands over the next few months and still boarded up. I finally stopped one day and there was a van behind the building and people were talking I waited until my turn I was taken inside and I was told because I waited so long I had given up all rights. I remember signing something like that but never expected a fire and thought due to the fire they were closed. I think that they would have made some kind of exception and they never got ahold of me. The man I talked to said they sent something to me. I wasn't going to argue, but they took advantage and took my wedding rings that we paid over$4000. For. Don't trust them they rip you off. They do not send email or text. I looked and waited to see something. I had no idea anyone was there at the location. It did not show that they were open. Bad business expect nothing from them if you work with them make sure that you have an alarm and calendar payment down bottom line they just took my wedding rings and said sorry about that! Bad experience. Never going back I wanted to get rid of my exes rings. I did but thought I should have been allowed to still purchase a purse. They didn't even offer that in fact said they didn't have stock there which I understand after a fire, but they could have shown me what they have online from the other stores I didn't even realize that they had other stores. If I knew that I would have gone to a different store to find out about the fire and if they were still open or be able to make a payment at the other store s... I just felt like I was scammed and they offered nothing in return. Their was a fire and their was nothing on the business saying hey we're open??? Horrible experience. They also said I would have to come back to see if there's anything that they can do for me since it's been so long or to see inventory. read more

Previously, I gave Capital Pawn a good review..... After today (12/22/16) my opinion of them has certainly changed! Needing quick cash, I let my partner take my less than a year old HP laptop in for a loan on 12/21/16. the girl behind the counter told my partner that she checked the model number and "looked it up on ebay" and saw that my "laptop was only worth $120" and would only give a $60 on it. I found this interesting because I checked ebay 15 minutes before my partner got to Capital Pawn and saw ONLY TWO HP laptops the SAME model as mine both of which were selling for OVER $300. My partner after hearing this attempted to "haggle" to NO avail and accepted the $60 and left. LESS than 24 hours had passed and my partner went back to pay/pick up the laptop, she dealt with the same girl as the previous day. In LESS than 24 hours they charged a total $72 dollars to get our laptop back! A $12 charge for a loan which was PAID BACK IN LESS THAN A DAY?!!! My partner did not have her ticket and the girl behind the counter tried to tack on an additional $3.00 charge but told my partner that she would "Waive it if she (my partner) would leave a review on Yelp". I have used several pawn shops in Salem over the years, and I feel compelled to write a review because this place is by far the best. I sold some antique silver there last week, and was offered more money than the other 2 places I went to. The guys were straight-up about how they had calculated the price, and I found it fair. The staff was professional and the shop itself was nicer/newer than what I've seen elsewhere. I recommend this shop above the others in town...big time. read more

I have been a customer of capital pawn for about 5 years now, they had always taken care of me when I needed. They offer less than other pawn shops but because it was so close i thought that it wasnt bad, until this most recent time i went there. I told them that i wanted to pawn my xbox one s and all i needed was $135 because my girlfriend and i were short on rent, we had to dip into our rent money because her brother had passed away and we needed to get her to her family. But even after explaining the situation to the employee there he told me the most that he could do was $80 for it, which is hilarious considering ill be going down there in 6 days to pick it back up from them and the fact that retail price of it is $225-$250 but they base their prices off of ebay prices which isnt how it should be done. And as i mentioned before I know that other pawn shops will give more for items because i have gone to other pawn shops and received more on an item that Capital Pawn offered me less for. As far as im concerned they need to understand customer service better and understand that there is things they can do for people ESPECIALLY for a loyal customer of 5 years. Capital is one of my main stops when I am looking for tools, knives and firearms. I've always been treated great and felt welcomed. Josh is great to deal with and I am not saying that because we have the same name lol, He always tries to give me the best deal he can and knows his guns :-) Even if I don't buy anything, I am always treated with respect. We do have to remember they have to make a buck, I believe their prices are about what you would expect from a pawn shop. I check the rest of the shops in a regular basis and Capital is not more or less expensive than others. The place is nice, clean and organized which given the type of business is very important in my opinion. Regarding about selling and trading, it is a pawn shop people! you will never ever get what you think your item is worth why? because they need to pay the rent, pay employees and make a profit! Like I said, their prices and what they are willing to pay for items is no more or less than the other pawnshops. I know if there is something wrong with an item they will try to make it right but also remember they are used items so before you pay, check the item, test it and ask as many questions as you can and never assume things. read more
