Even got to dig a little

I went for my son but ended up having a great time too! I worried I might feel a little claustrophobic, but not at all. Would definitely recommend for families.

Actually break off pieces that have silver in the rock.

Very interesting. II picked this tour because I was bringing my 87 year old Dad and there were no steps. You walk into the mine and it almost seems unreal that you are inside the mountain. We all liked the tour. I have been to other mines but this was different. I think because it is an active mine and they show you how they find the gold and silver. Plus they let my son and father use a pic axe to break the stone. Other mines I have been in show us how they got the rock out of the mine and then milled it. They are all interesting because you really respect the workers. Plus Georgetown has a lot of nice shops.

Was visiting family and my niece suggested this tour. It was really fun and interesting. Paul made it fun and full of facts that you would not realize how hard mining is. Thank you..

Our family had a Fabulous time, touring the mine. Daniela was a Great tour guide. She explained every detail of the mining process. Our kids were in awe, plus she included them in the conversation, and helping her demonstrate how the tools worked. We also spent some time outside visiting her and team. Thank u for a great adventure.

so much fun if you do the georgetown train fs get this add on, Our tour guide Jimbo was great 10/10 would recommend

We had a great time. Learned a lot about the mine in a short amount of time. Very cool to see everything in the mine. Somehow the tour guide was very cheerful and chippy while telling us about the harsh and deadly conditions of the mind. Mining foe gold was fun and super simple too, earned a cute little souvenir to take home.

We knew we wanted to do a mine tour, and there are several in the area (have a house in Silverthorne). We were heading to Georgetown for the day so we decided to head over to the Capital Prize Gold Mine Tours. I'm SO glad we chose this tour! You drive in and it looks like this little rinky dink operation: 1 house/office and a bunch of old equipment strewn around. But wow! First impressions can be wrong! We were the only 2 there and it was the last tour of the day. Our tour guide Paul was knowledgeable and gave a great tour. The tour ultimately takes you back 1000 feet into the mine. Paul gave demonstrations on some of the equipment and explained a lot about the mining operation. The "mother lode" is only 3200 feet into the mine but we couldn't go back that far obviously. There's a lot of mining left to do in this mountain! Once you get back to the 1000ft mark, you can actually mine for gold, silver, copper....! You're allowed to carry one stone out of the mine. You rinse it, break it with a hammer and see your prize. I was so lucky and my rock has gold in it! I posted a pic here. Tip if you go: pick up the heavy rock - even if it's small. I debated because the rock I had was small (maybe 3" long) but it was heavy. So glad I didn't throw it back! lol

It was a great tour! Very informative and interactive. Our tour group was small, 4 people plus our guide. Could be super cool for kids! We plan on going back with my niece and nephew, they will love it.

Paul was an amazing guide. He not only gave us a good Colorado history of mining in the area, but provided an outstanding mining experience. Sorry I broke your pickaxe, but thank you for letting me mine our own gold 1,000ft from within the mountain! If you're visiting Georgetown from out of town or you're a Colorado local, this mine tour is the best in the state! Thanks Paul

Paul with our daughter explaining how they mined veins.

Paul was awesome! My two kids 7&4 were so excited. This was by far the best experience of the Georgetown/ Silver Plume area we had. From playing with chipmunks, so the story of the mine, and it's continued operation today.. Definitely don't sleep on this tour. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.
