Only other way to get there is a 7 hour ferry ride or to fly to anchorage and drive 15 hours (through Canada). My flight was as at 8:30am, which was a rookie error on my end. These little planes do not fly in fog and due to poor visibility I sat in the airport until 3pm where they gave up and told me to come back tomorrow and try again! Booked the same flight for the next day and came back and early in the morning it was foggy but the fog burned off by 10am and we made it. Do t bother scheduling a flight BEFORE 10am! No need to go through security/TSA. They call your name and you walk right out on the runway. Plane had 4 seats (half the plane is used for cargo). Flight was AMAZING and well worth the wait! We flew Pretty low to the ground with amazing views of this beautiful area. Views of the water and mountains. Makes you thankful to be alive!

As a former frequent flyer and fan of this airline I now advise you to steer clear if possible…read more First... don't overlook that these are multi pilot complex aircraft being operated by single pilot with a single engine. The pilots are good, the engines are reliable, but things happen. Second... woefully understaffed, and many employees display a cavalier attitude to say the least. Just Call Juneau and try getting someone on the phone if anything goes wrong. I will be flying Alaska Airlines from now on. If you don;t like TSA... get TSA pre. Save yourself a lot of heartache and money. Finally. There is no passenger screening. An angry passenger could be a big problem. Think that couldn't happen? Watch how the pilots treat the passengers before they even get on the plane... Condescending, insulting, Confrontational are words that come to mind. It's understandable as they are overworked and double as baggage handlers etc. Also smaller stations have no real senior leadership which is not a problem until there ARE problems and no one knows what to do and trust me they will refuse to contact Juneau for guidance...... Most important.... WEATHER. This is Alaska. Small light planes are not capable of doing what a 737 with two pilots and special proprietary instrument approaches can do. Alaska Airlines has no competition when it comes to safety and reliability in Southeast Alaska. You can get on the first leg of a 20 minute flight on Alaska Seaplanes and find yourself trapped on the plane for hours as they attempt to land and various airports on the route for that flight and wind up right back in Juneau. As a retired pilot I will be flying Alaska Airlines from now on. The specifics of my latest flight follow if interested. The seats on a Pilatus PC12 are not good for your back. So I bring a stadium seat with me that has back support built into it. Seaplanes does not allow carry on "bags". So understandably the pilot wanted to take that from me thinking it was a "carry on". I politely explained that I needed to sit on it for my back problems and he seemed to understand.... I thought things were fine. I sat in the most forward seat Starboard side just behind the bulkhead to the cockpit. I had my toes bent touching the bulkhead feet on the floor. There were 4 other passengers.... pretty intimate. The pilot boards and before closing the door proceeds to chew me out for having my toes up against the bulkhead which is carpeted and if you have ever flown in the front seats of any airplane I am sure you will recognize that most people touch the bulkhead with their feet. No matter I thought.... I didn't say anything, I simply pulled my feet back and complied with his rather odd demand. As we flew I wondered what could cause such an angry outburst and began to wonder about the guys state of mind to be honest. I admit I found it insulting to be singled out like that in front of other passengers as if I had done something wrong. We arrive in Sitka and I am concerned enough about this guy that I decided to watch him unload the bags to be sure he didn't;t throw mine around with the computer, cell phone etc in it. This is getting too long I going to cut to the chase. They lost my bag. From Juneau to Sitka. Which means it could then be on its way to any of their other destinations with all my prescriptions in it. The pilot had specifically rolled the baggage cart over to me personally and asked if I saw my bag there. I had said nothing so far. I said no. He shrugged. I said does this mean it is lost. He said yes. I said how is that possible? He said well stuff happens...."no one is perfect". So I said "what can we do about it". I got no response. So I went inside. For the next hour No one at Sitka would help me in any way. No one would pick up a phone and call Juneau. No one would send an e mail to dispatch and inquire about where my bag was before it ended up somewhere else inaccessible perhaps. I finally lost my patience and demanded that they do something...... Nothing happened. I went home. I spent an hour and a half on the phone mostly on hold trying to get a human being. They finally called and said they would have the bag to me by noon the next day. Unacceptable because of the prescriptions. I was able to talk them in to sending it on Alaska Airlines and I am thankful for that. I believe the pilot of the flight should be disciplined for his utterly uncaring and frankly confrontational attitude. Yeah I did finally get angry and yell at him and there was a scene I must admit.

Her knowledge and enthusiasm turned what could have been an ordinary taxi ride into one of the highlights of our visit. She was friendly, professional, punctual, and made us feel welcome from the moment we got in the car. The vehicle was clean and comfortable, and she made sure we arrived safely and on time while pointing out places we otherwise would have missed. If you're visiting Juneau, I highly recommend requesting Maria if you have the chance. You'll get reliable transportation along with an enjoyable mini-tour from someone who truly loves her city.

Used this taxi service to get from downtown Juneau to the glacier and back. It worked out great…read morefor us. They kept in touch with us via phone, picked us up right where we were downtown, and then dropped us off at the glacier for an agreed-upon 2 hour time. That gave us plenty of time to walk to the glacier, see the sites, and get back in time for pickup. Our driver was friendly and the price was way cheaper than if we'd taken a different service. The vehicle was an older minivan but it was completely adequate for the trip.

This is truly a cruise unlike what one would be considered a cruise. It is an UN-cruise of outdoor…read moreadventure, operating from a comfortable smallish ship. Wife and I arranged this trip on the recommendation of our son, Clark, who was in the travel field of business. The trip was his family plus his mom and dad (us), for 2024, but he died when his aorta burst and we had to re-book for 2025. So Clark's two sons and his wife, plus us went in August 2025. It was great. Our daughter-in-law and the two grandsons are adventure oriented and they were in heaven. Each morning and afternoon there were excursions: guided kayak, kayak explorations, bushwhacking hikes, all day kayak ventures. Eco-hikes, and inflatable boat trips. My wife and I, at 79 years old were fine going on Eco-hikes and inflatable trips. Everyone had something they wanted to do. The ship had 72 passengers aboard, plus crew. Meals were served in a comfy dining room with table service. The food was wonderful and seconds were mostly available...a super smile event for out two teen grandsons. The lounge had an open bar-tended bar with cookies put out at 3pm daily. An evening briefing was done as to activities and each night had a featured speaker covering: Birds, Bears, Glaciers and Whales. All of the presenters were experienced experts and were excellent. The Uncruise took place in SE Alaska and we were able to sail all over those many islands in our smaller ship. The large cruise liners were limited to areas and had to abide with time slots to get into and out of the big tourist attractions. We were able to take in sooooo much more. Whales were a constant. Lots of flukes displayed, mothers with babies and spouts coming up helped us to pinpoint where they were. In the inflatables, the whale watching was thrilling. A lot of nature and we went out in whatever the weather was at the time. We brought the gear and the ship had rubber boots for everyone. Rooms were two bunks with private bath and shower. Absolutely fine and we were usually in bed right after the evening briefings and presentations. We slept well. The crew was so accommodating and the ship captain had the bridge open to visit 24/7. The ship was kept super clean and was very safe. UnCruise is unique and a company to look into, regardless of your age. The conduct ADVENTURE Cruises. We would go again.

It was absolutely wonderful: crew from servers to guides were exceptional (wonderful with the children as well as adults); food was exceptional; and the options for activities were perfect for our group which was ages 90-9: from eco-meanders, skiff tours, to bushwhack hikes, kayak exploration, etc. Everything is extremely well thought out and organized. Guides were extremely knowledgeable. The last day we were able to get into LeConte Bay with the ship, dodging ice bergs everywhere. And then right up to the LeConte Glacier with the skiffs to enable us to sit and watch the southernmost tidal glacier in the Northern Hemisphere calve as well as observe the seals and their babies up close. it was magical. And did I mention that the whole time we had all this amazing wilderness to ourselves, except for the one cruise ship we saw at the top of Glacier Bay - they are allowed in and out. We were allowed to stay! This is NOT a huge luxury cruise ship, but the facilities, service, organization and crew were totally top notch! An amazing operation. Highly recommend for people who want to get out and really experience Alaskan wilderness.

In Juneau, we did the Whale Watching tour on Lynn Canal and it didn't take long to spot the first whale diving right in front of us. Unfortunatelly to fast for us to get our cameras out. But during the time out there, we spotted several whales and enjoyed the beautiful scenery as well as the funny and informative comments our captain and our tourgide gave us. We learned quite a bit about the region, whales and history. The snacks and water they provided, was a nice catch. Right off the boat we were transported to the airport for a helicopter trip over the Juneau Icefield and to Herbert Glacier. Our pilote took us safely from and to the airport and gave us a brief intro about the icefield, its glaciers and the surrounding areas. Landing on the glacier and taking a stroll was simply amazing, also because the weather was perfectly sunny. The trip was certainly worth every penny. In Skagway we did a bustour to the Yukon territory. Our busdriver was not just very knowledgable about the tour but also had tons of funny stories about life in Alaska to tell. Time flew by while we enjoyed the beauty of Alaska and Canada on this tour doing several stops for picture taking, walks and lunch at a husky station. Alltogether, the tours were expertly organized and we were in very good hands with the gides we got for our tours. They certainly made a major contribution to my fantastic time in Alaska.

I asked to extend my stay. If and when I return to Juneau, I'm definitely staying here again. The chores they're referring to aren't big things. They're just your daily things you already do. Definitely worth the price and definitely worth your stay. I won't lie... it was a bit difficult getting there due to the "steep hills" while dragging your 50lbs. luggage and a carry-on. Not a big deal. Very cozy, good area, no alcohol (which wasn't too much of a deal breaker) However, they're lenient with the hours of return, if you decide to go out and experience the night life. If there was 4.5 stars out of 5 I would give that. But they're not worth giving the 4 stars. It's honestly just the hours, which again, ISN'T a big deal... you're in Alaska! EXPLORE!!
