Very surprising stop at the end of our trip to Michigan. Don't be held back by its location next to (and kind of in) a budget motel, this place makes me consider leaving DTW airport on a long layover to get a real meal. We were hungry, so started with a shrimp tempura, which had 5 sizeable pieces and a great dipping sauce. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I had the recommended Michigan cherry salad with chicken. The salad was amazing: fresh greens, great amounts of other ingredients, and dressed perfectly. I cleaned the bowl. I had a chance to check out the fish and chips too. Very well cooked and the fries were good. I think I got the better meal, but that's more about how good the salad was than a dig at the fish and chips. Two dollar signs is about right for the cost, but value for price was exactly where it needed to be. If you're staying at an airport hotel, this is a must try! read more

Pros: drinks were awesome. I had the Cosmo and my husband had an old fashioned. Burger was good and fries were great. Cons: Michigan cherry salad was ok IMO. It would have been better with a spring mix instead of so much iceberg. Also maybe more toppings. It was just ok Dessert. Carrot cake was good. The ice cream with it, not so good. After a long and merciless night and day of travel (red-eye from SFO to DTW cased with a solid day of meetings), I took a nap and then headed out for dinner. My hotel is on Merriman Rd with the rest of them, so I headed out on foot (boss had the car) for a solo dinner. I narrowed the choices using Yelp! - of course - and headed off for the small restaurant row the other side of the Quik Park from the Fairfield Inn. I had originally chosen the Beirut Lebanese, but changed my mind once I went inside and caught the vibe inside. I punted and headed off for the Capitol Grill. Once inside, I felt immediately better. Clean, well decorated and friendly - the opposite of my original destination. I was able to sit at a table of my choosing and was quickly attended to by my server Sarah. In moments, she had a water and menus (food +drink) in front of me. I ordered a Monkey King ale (local craft brew) and she brought it out quickly and took my order. I chose the Firecracker Burger; burger with pepper jack and fried jalapeños, fries and a pickle. The beer was great (of course, I needed it by then!), and the burger was good. Not a five star - but a solid 4. I would have like a little more zing, but it is Michigan and not New Mexico. The fries were also solid performers - hot and fresh. However, they were not super seasoned or anything. Add your own salt and ketchup to taste. All that said, it's a FOUR which means I would recommend it and I will come back. I'd also like to mention that the food came out In less than five minutes from order placement. It was a Monday night at about 8pm and a moderate crowd. Very courteous service and I liked the old school decor. It also has a full bar, which I didn't use, to my regret (I'm a cheap date - one drink kinda liver). This restaurant is a short walk from the Holiday Inn Express, which offers long term airport parking with Qwikpark. They offer a nice pub menu with sandwiches, a couple of soups and salads, along with a handful of entrees and a full bar. We ate here twice - before and after our flight out of Detroit. Great meal, cute bar/restaurant, odd location. We stayed by the airport due to an early flight, the restaurant is adjacent to the lobby of the hotel with an exterior entrance also. Menu is simple with a variety of choices (not too many, the menu is not a book) . As previous reviews state only 2 staff members but they were very attentive and prompt. This is definitely a hidden gem, the wings were probably the best I've had since I was a kid when my mom cook them. They were perfectly cooked . The fish and chips were also great, crisp and cooked just right . Very Clean and the waitress was very nice and easy to look at. I'll definitely be back . This place is a little gem. It's not a very big restaurant and it's connected to an America's Best Value Inn. I wasn't expecting much but the French onion soup was excellent with just the right amount of bread and cheese. My entree was the glazed salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes. I had read mixed reviews before picking this place to eat. Some good some bad. So I took the positive reviews and went here for lunch. I came with a group of 4 people and 3/4 of us only ate and all three of us got mild food poisoning. The food was NOT good. As soon as we left within 2 hours of eating there I have been having symptoms of food poisoning. The chicken looked fully cooked but I'm assuming it was poorly stored or expired meat. The burger my friend got was fully cooked but half way through her eating it it looked like clumps of fat or grease and she was concerned with the look of it. I preface this by saying that if you're a traveler and staying by the airport there really aren't a lot of choices. I got the salmon with mixed vegetables. It took about 1/2 hour to get my food. And they do not offer a salad/bread as a starter. My fish and vegetables were over cooked and my mashed potatoes tasted like they were made from a packet. read more

Met family while visiting Detroit and ended up here because of its close proximity to the airport. It doesn't look like much in the little strip center (plus being attached to a hotel doesn't give me high hopes) but it was cozy inside and the food was good! I ordered some cheese covered sandwich that I had to eat with a fork. It was gooey and very good. We tried the fried cheese curds which were not great (wouldn't get again). I tried the french onion soup which was very tasty and may have had a hint of nutmeg to give it just a little sweetness. They had a handful of local craft beers. Service was friendly. Stopped by to have a couple of drinks and do some work on my computer. The bartender (who was actually very friendly) took my order immediately. However, after that she just stood in the corner scrolling on her phone for 20+ minutes so I couldn't order another drink or food. I eat here a lot bc I'm close to the airport for work very often! This place is a hidden gem! They have an extensive drink menu and great prices on beers (usually $4 for most of the more common beers).... they also have quite a few local beers (around $5) and wine, as well as cocktails! Their burgers and fries (with ranch of course) are my FAVORITE! No need for extra spices or sauces on their burgers and the fries are thin and crispy!!! They have great servers and bartenders too! A cool little place attached to a lower level hotel. Nice bar and friendly people. All I had were their fried cheese curds and they are pretty good. Very pleasantly surprised! I'm not sure why, but I usually don't trust restaurants really close to airports. I guess I feel like they don't really care if you come back or not because their clientele are mostly travelers. Not the case at Capital Bistro. The restaurant was clean, and the decor is the kind that is nice, but you're still ok coming in wearing your comfy travelling clothes. There was only one server on a Saturday night, but she was a pro and no one had to wait for food or drinks. To me, their cocktail prices are really high. I ordered a Mile High, which was $9.50. I did really enjoy the drink,(since I wasn't paying) and would get it again. My husband had a Croque Monsieur and said it was excellent. I was impressed that this was even on the menu. The food prices were more than I expected, but the quality and taste were great. While I recommend going on your way to/from the airport, I know I will be back even when I'm not heading to DTW. read more

Not bad, it's a really nice place here. The staff is super friendly even though we were staying very close to closing. Our flight ended up 4 hours delayed, so we stopped here to get some food and drinks. For appetizers, we got the fried cheese curds and fried chicken wings. The chicken wings were delicious and deserve four stars on its' own. The cheese curds were okay, they reminded me of smaller mozzarella sticks. I ended up getting the Fried Jalapeno Burger. I asked for medium, but I received well done. Honestly, I think 90% of restaurants don't make it the medium/medium-rare that I request. Could be for safety reasons, but I wish they would say that. Otherwise, it feels like they're ignoring my request. I liked the fried jalapenos, but I felt so greasy after eating it. Overall, if I'm ever in the area, I'll be here again! On a work trip so coworker picked the spot which is actually attached to a hotel. I ordered the steak diane which came in a heavy dark brown sauce and mushrooms with redskin mashed potatoes. Needed to find a decent place to eat close to the airport. We weren't having much luck finding anything decent within a stone's throw, but then I found this place on Yelp. Decent reviews, so we gave it a try. On a snowy Wednesday at noon, there were a total of 3 other people in there. It's also connected to a low-end hotel. Things weren't looking great--until we opened the menu. The options actually sounded decent. The selection was small (that's a good thing). The ingredients in each meal ranged from typical to clever. Good sign! I ordered the turkey club. There typically isn't much to distinguish a club from another one, and this was no exception--same old ingredients. That being said, the sandwich was great! The bacon was thick and cooked just right, tomatoes fresh (in the middle of winter, no less), the turkey piled high and non-slimey. Everyone generally enjoyed their meals. Burgers looked great. Coffee is Lavazza and looked/smelled great (my brother enjoyed it). Beer selection looked stellar and our waitress was very nice and attentive.
