The service is always amazing. The decorations that they have makes it feel like you're at a second home (like maybe a grandma's house), which makes the experience even better. Their Spinach and Feta omelete is to die for. It is my favorite breakfast food, and i have yet to find another place that makes it as good as them. They usually bring the food out really quick if it's not super busy. If you are looking for a new breakfast spot with well made food and great service, i definitely recommend Flamingo. read more

When you walk in you see all the older generation here and I have always said that if the older people are coming to an establishment that it HAS to be good because they do not put up with mid grade food and the colors in the restaurant are fabulous, it had a beach theme which was quite relaxing to see. So we sat right away and ordered coffee. The coffee is always good and fresh anywhere you go so we decided to order, the waitress was running around getting everyone's order, she was fast, friendly and a great server for every table. I ordered the Country Omelette & a half order of Biscuits & Gravy. The food came out exceptionally fast which is somewhat suspect but I have to say that the Country Omelette was VERY good, the cheese was very cheesy, the egg itself had a very good taste and the Gravy.... Oh my word, this gravy was off the chain, it did not taste canned it DEFINITELY tasted homemade, the biscuits did taste like they sat out a little too long and were a little hard but the taste of the gravy definitely did it some justice. Overall I have to say this is well worth it and maybe today just wasn't the best day for the biscuit but the gravy was AMAZING!! All the food was great, service was great and the ambience was awesome! To know that this is literally 5 blocks away from my house and I have never been here shows how much I pay attention to restaurants near me. Lol. Come here if you like Omelettes and gravy. read more

He ordered the texas bacon cheeseburger with chili fries and it was perfectly cooked and the chili was delicious. Our normal Sunday restaurant was closed, so we went here instead...and boy am I glad we did! Our waitress was Karen and she is absolutely fantastic! She is super sweet with a charming smile, quick with the food, and makes sure everything is exactly as requested! We ordered the banana nut pancakes and the steak and eggs. Wow is all I can say! The new owners are not keeping this place up like the old owner Phil. I've dined and picked up food multiple times and will never return. I e been a customer for over 15 years and now it's sad but I can't patronize this place anymore. The breaded pork tenderloin was awful, tough couldn't eat it. The bean soup was way too salty and tomatoey. Not like it used to be. I ordered two sides of chicken breasts which was not cooked and no seasoning at all awful and it was $8. I love this ma & pa spot. The Owners are absolutely amazing and treats his staff wonderfully. They close around the holidays so the staff can "be with their families". That was refreshing, they actually care. Not to mention being regulars I've seen them run the register, seat patrons, cook and deliver food to tables. Hardworkers! Total respect. My Husband loves their fish and seasoned fries, I'm partial to their dumplings and stuffed cabbage myself and Turkey Noodle Soup. Their Omelets are also out of this world. Aww... The Flamingo I have some history here. I haven't been to this wonderful, little family owned gem in a while, not because of any negative reasons. I used to go almost weekly. This was my Grandma's favorite place. Our spot and weekly ritual. It is your typical diner with really good food. Breakfast being the star. Excellent omelettes, crispy hashbrows and fluffy golden pancakes. What's not to like. The lunch is also good. Great salads, l love the greek, plus some great homemade soups served with a nice bread basket. Service has always been good. The owner often there to check on guest. The decor is very cute, I love it. Tropical and beachy with you guessed it all kinds of flamingos everywhere which I love. Like I said I hadn't been here in a while. The main reason being it reminds me so much of my Gram. It makes me a little emotional. I however threw all caution to the wind Sunday morning and had a delightful breakfast, even if I did cry a little on my mushroom swiss omelette and hashbrowns. This used to be a great restaurant with decent food. Ordered the senior broiled pork chop with mashed potatoes, green beans & a salad. The salad was the only thing good. Server comes out with a different cut of pork chop as they were out of the broiled one. Very tough to chew & super thin. The mashed potatoes tasted instant & the green beans tasted like the frozen type. Even the bread which was always fresh was stale. A Different Place in a good way My visit was on a Thursday Morning at 8:30. I was greeted at the door which was held open for me by an exiting patron. I was given a choice of seating and asked if I would like coffee. It was pointed out that, along with the menu. That there are specials on a laminated card sitting on top of its' home, a round black wire condiment caddy. My waitress brought water along with my coffee. After perusing the colorful menu I selected a Western Omelet Breakfast Special. My omelet was a good size probably a three egg. It was cooked on a flat top grill evidenced by its' shape. The green peppers and onions were plentiful and it included cheese. That makes me smile. Everything is better with cheese. The fried potatoes were cut into slices rather then shredded. They were nice and evenly browned and crisp on the edges. No visible grease on them. I usually select grits vs. potatoes, which is an option here, but was a bit hungry this morning. The coffee was pretty good. Better than most not the least bit bitter. Wheat toast was evenly browned and lightly buttered. Atmosphere Flamingo Family Restaurant is located on Ecorse Road in Taylor Mi. There are plenty of four person booths along the outer wall and tables in the middle. The décor is wait for it....Flamingo oriented. It has bright pink and yellow walls with various flamingos and other artwork festooning the walls. The dining area is divided into two separate rooms which are joined by a large entrance and large windows decorated with pink flamingo art. The Neon Flamingo light is the icing on this colorful place. You won't forget this place anytime soon. It was very clean. Noise Level Quiet. Normal talking levels. Meal Western Omelet Breakfast Special $5.29. this includes the Omelet, Potatoes or Grits, and toast Coffee $1.99 Total $7.72 Wheelchair Access The restaurant is at street level, seating is at normal levels. This is a really solid Mom & Pop diner. -The Flamingo Salad comes on mixed greens which is pretty rare for salad at a diner in Taylor (In my opinion.) -The food seems pretty fresh (Awesome bread) and the portions are ample. -The staff is very competent and swift. They work as a team and the food usually comes out promptly. -Every time I have been there, it seems there is an abundance of people. Especially people who are enjoying their retirements (and they all seem to know each other.) -This only something I heard like thirdhand; I heard they treat their employees well and they have benefits, and PTO, etc... If that means anything to you. Overall, I'd say this place is a good value, consistent, and has that small town vibe that the elderly love. read more

Decided to try someplace different that has familly style food. I've passed by Flamingo Family Restaurant many many time on the way to work. The restaurant was clean and we were greated immediately by the owner and the waitress. The restaurant wasn't that busy at the time, so we were able to sit wherever we wanted. The menu has a vast selection of items. I settled for a cheeseburger and fries and my husband got the fish and shrimp platter with onion rings. He also got a side salad. The food came hot to the table and appeared to be nicely prepared. The burger patty could have been a little bigger/thicker. The bread and toppings overpowered the burger. The fries were crisp on the outside and had a nice texture; good flavor. My husband found the shrimp in his dish to be overcooked. He said they had a rubbery texture. He liked the fish, but there was only one piece and it wasn't that big. The onion rings were crisp and batter had good flavor. My husband commented that his side salad was fresh and the ranch dressing was homemade. Even though our meal was touch and go, we would still give the restaurant another shot. read more

Visiting from Florida, and I mentioned to my friends I would like to eat some perch. They mentioned The Flamingo. So we pile in the car and ride over to this popular place in Taylor. We walk in and we seat ourselves. The waitresses worked as a team to get our drinks and appetizer. Which is their fresh baked bread. My buddy raved and I did try it. Nice soft white bread. The waitresses were great! Here in the great state of Michigan restaurants, I know you get a salad, soup, and a side with your entree. Lots of eats. So I order the perch with salad, bowl of navy bean soup with a baked potato. My buddy ordered the grouper he raved about. My perch was ok. The coating was sweet but not crunchy enough and too greasy. I still enjoyed it because its perch. Tartar was good. Overall, I like the local place with their flamingo decor, the food isn't bad, and the place was filled with many people who must agree. read more

The decor has been outdated since Miami Vice got canceled. I'd review the food, but I never got to be seated. I was on the road for work, dressed well... shirt, tie, nice slacks and shoes. I could see it was busy, but there was no line. Since I was on the clock, I asked the lady at the door if there was much of a wait. She rudely told me I was not getting in, and pointed toward the door for me to leave. Not sure if she thought I was someone else or if she was just an idiot. I go here about twice a month with a woman I work for. She cannot get enough of this place. So, previous reviewers are right...the food is nothing to call home about. It's good and just like any other family restaurant you've been to. But, what sets this place apart is the service. Even when it's packed, your glass will always be full, your food will be hot, and your waitress won't rush you one bit. The owner is a really nice guy named Phil who makes his rounds amongst the tables when he's not helping out in the kitchen. It's a family oriented restaurant and it does get pretty busy around lunchtime, but it's the perfect "quick-stop" if you want decent food that isn't "fast food." The parking lot kind of sucks though. It's a one way in and one way out, but the actual space between the two rows of spots isn't that big. It just makes it inconvenient to back out of it to turn your car around to head around the back of the place to drive out. This is a small family owned dinner. My recent visit I had a patty melt deluxe. The patty melt was very good, lightly grilled on rye bread, grilled onions and cheese. I have to say it was one of the best Patty melts I had. The fries were crispy and good. Coleslaw was tasty too. In the past I have had their breakfast. Very good a large portion.
