The actual train experience was fine, just a tad late in both directions--maybe up to 30 minutes on both trips in different stations, the connection between San Francisco and Emeryville and back required bus connections. The scenery on the train is mostly very pretty once we past by the freeways and overpasses. We pass through lots of water scenery and open fields. I did get a bit sleepy during the train rides. Aside from a little anxious missing my stop, mostly very pleasant trip. read more

Passing through here around 1 PM on Sunday afternoon.. need something to eat. I smelled the baking a fresh bread. Which led us to the Sourdough and Co. Sacramento Valley Station restaurant?... We picked up two sandwiches, and one salad to go ... The bread is very fresh and still warm by the time we got to our apartment. The salad was also delicious. So if you're on the go but need something to fill your tummy. This is an excellent place to pick something up. We got 2 8. inch Italian sandwiches. on fresh crunchy bread. They were delicious even though they are a little pricey. I also recommend getting a salad which is approximately costing 12 $13.. read more

I missed my train today because the Capitol Corridor train to suisun city in the Bay Area was cancelled. I was given no notice of this besides being told by an employee and there was no information given or other options for trains or busses home so I was stranded at the station. I waited for two hours for info because I got a misleading text from Amtrak telling me the train was delayed. When I finally asked an employee what to do after two hours of no updates he never apologized or tried to look sympathetic at all. He looked like he could care less. This has happened too many times with the Capitol Corridor train. It's happening twice a month now. It's either a trespasser on the tracks, car on the tracks, or something else. I have spent thousands of dollars on Amtrak over the years and this is unacceptable. Do better Amtrak! I expect to be reimbursed for this trip since you guys cancelled my train I paid for then gave me no other options to get home. I had to spend 84 dollars on an uber to Vallejo all the way from Sacramento. You guys suck. read more

amtrak parking lot and kisoks are poorly lit (bring a flashlight). instructions on how to use the meter are not posted anywhere in large print for advance review nor is instructional assistance available within the depot (personnel in the depot are however sympathetic and apologetic). at a parking kiosk, patrons must wait in line and then crouch down to decipher unclear instructions in order to understand the amount to pay for parking. you need a full hour for this operation. if you do not have someone to drop you off at the station, find an alternative means of transportation. train travel and the gracious depot seem less romantic given the frequent and steep parking fines the city is raking in--an unfortunate way to increase patrons contribution to the downtown economy. read more

Usually on time with courteous employees. However, on 5/17/24 the 4:21pm train from Emeryville to Roseville was delayed a few hours due to police activity at the Fremont Station tracks. I waited at the Emeryville Station until departure. My phone was getting low and I didn't have my charger. I asked a few employees and passengers if they could charge my phone The employees said no. The passengers said the outlets didn't work in the station anyway. I was getting anxious because of the delay and it was getting late. The fender conductor on the train named Mary graciously let me use hers. I got shacks at the snack bar and she helped me carry the food down to the employee car. She jet me sit there the entire ride while my phone was charging. She said she'd been an employee for 21 years and her outstanding professionalism reflected her dedicated service. My phone was almost fully charged by the time we arrived in Sacramento. Since it was much later I was able to use the phone and take Lyft home. Thank you to Mary! read more

hi-ya! So I never took Amtrak before, but I had some business in SF and was suggested to take the train. So why not? (Besides the fact that the process to go from Sacramento to Richmond to S.F. is a long one)---it's fun to do at least once. The Amtrak from Sacramento was nice--so easy to navigate through the station, but what was really neat was the train station building. It was old and had old seating (felt like a light weight grand central station), but it had history. There was great big mural there and it quiet in the morning. The staff was helpful and let me how to get where I needed and when I should walk out to the train while waiting. Good customer service, clean and a cool experience for something I haven't done before. We sat at a table style seating when on the train and the ticket checker was super diligent. Coffee was ok--$2 bucks each for a small, but it gets the job done. You can even buy alcohol, but that wasn't something was into in the morning. The ride was quiet, fun and to goto Richmond on a train was great. Hit the BART afterwards and made my way to SF. Good experience on the AMTRAK. read more

I have been riding Amtrak to the Bay Area since the beginning of this century. It's a great way to travel without hassles, tolls, parking etc. More expensive than some bus services leaving Sacramento, but much more reliable in terms of departure and arrival times. The trains are clean, conductors friendly and seating comfortable. Ok, I wish it was about 20-25 dollars less expensive RT to and from the Bay Area. I also wish the trains were not late leaving from stations that are not points of origin. I have sat at the Oak Coliseum station going back to Sacramento way too often waiting for a train late from down the line late because of freight trains. Standing in the cold listening to their system state the train is a few more minutes late over and over again gets old and very uncomfortable. This issue where freight gets priority over passenger trains needs to be fixed. Despite the complaints above the service is usually terrific. Be patient and dress for the weather if your train is not point of origin though. read more

Nothing noticeable until you look close at the tray, window, arm rests, etc. I did not use the restroom or go to the cafe so I can not comment on those areas. if you are looking for an unreliable transportation than take the train. I've been commuting to work on the train for 3 years now because I have no other option. I'm disabled nd can't drive. In the last 6 months Amtrak services have deteriorated. the Support staff aren't around to help customers find trains at multiple stations. The trains are constantly late, on average 3 days a week. Staff doesn't perform checks on equipment so trains break down after way though a trip. Staff could care less if they make you late. For me everytime they're late it costs me at least $30 and so they have cost me thousands because of their poor service. And to think they raised their prices not long ago so now you pay more to get less. To bad no one seems to care to fix these issue. I just glad I don't run my company as bad as Amtra. I guess I just get to see first hand how not to conduct business. read more

It still surprises me that the Capitol Corridor is the 3rd busiest train in the United States. It should not, as the system is always busy shuttling people between Sacramento and Oakland with near hourly service. Most Bay Area trains start at the Sacramento Valley Station and end either at Oakland Jack London Square or all the way to San Jose. During rush hour, this is the fastest way to avoid traffic on Interstate 80. Outside rush hour, the train is usually slower than driving with a much better experience. The train zooms through the farms of the delta before crossing into Martinez. You spend a lot of time hugging the coast between Martinez and Oakland with a great view of all the oil refineries and industrial ports. At least you have wifi and power outlets to have a better view. Prices are steep, but the monthly passes and companion fares are very reasonable. This is the best way to travel to an A's, Raiders, or even 49ers game from Sacramento, and is a great option for visiting Sacramento as the train drops you right next to Old Sacramento and the new Golden 1 Center. Commuters love the train, but it is a fun option to avoid traffic for the whole family. read more

I take this train thrice a week from Sacramento to great America and riding it saves a lot of time and stress that comes from driving the route. I always take the 620 am train from Sacramento and the 434 pm train from great America and during my past two months of travel, the train has been delayed by more than an hour only twice and thankfully that was while going home in the evening. It has a cafe that serves coffee, candy and some microwaveable food. The staff is also helpful and friendly and if you plan on riding the light rail in any of the cities it serves, remember to ask the conductor for the free light rail tickets (which otherwise cost around $2 per ticket). Took off one star as WiFi is non existent, however due to reliable cell service most of the way, it is easy to work on the train if you want to. read more

Amtrak has really put a lot of work into modernizing the Sacramento Valley Station on I Street with a new ticket window and newer style vending machines outside to get snacks. There is even staff inside the station who happily answers your questions and assists the disabled to their train in a golf cart. Most of the time you don't need to conduct business at the ticket window if you bought the ticket on your phone or bought it online. You just simply show the barcode on your phone or paper ticket. If you forget your reservation, call Amtrak immediately to have your itinerary resent or log into your account to print another. It feels sometimes like a long walk from the inside of the station to the tracks, but as I said if you need help, there are there to help. When you travel, and get your ticket checked by the conductor, don't forget to ask your conductor for 2 free transit tickets. They can be used on quite a few major transit agencies and have helped me complete my travel to see my Grandma without any extra cost. As mentioned by other riders, there are delays on board and it can be annoying. But for the price paid, it sure beats driving or other methods of travel. read more

I basically live on the train. I'm from Sacramento, but I go to school in Berkeley, so it's super convenient for me to use the capitol corridor to visit home and come home during breaks. That being said, though, Amtrak DEFINITELY comes with its problems. Its trains are constantly running behind schedule, having technical difficulties and overcharging. This isn't really a problem of capitol corridor specifically, rather Amtrak in general. Nevertheless, though, these problems spill into the capitol corridor route from time to time. I've been taking the capitol corridor route for years now. Sometimes to visit family in the Bay Area, and more recently to visit home from Berkeley. I'd say that I probably have about a 70% success rate with the capitol corridor (meaning that there are no problems and I get from A to B perfectly smoothly). The other 30% of the time is filled with delays and technical problems with the train. It can be really frustrating because (murphy's law applies here) these problems always seem to occur when I'm in the most need to get where I'm trying to go. One time I (stupidly) waited until the morning of an exam to wake up super early and get back to Berkeley to take it because I was studying at home. lo and behold, the train was delayed and I made it to my exam with only ten minutes to spare! Boo! This station is very nicely remodeled though and still a work in progress. I've used it for years and I just don't understand why the track is now so far away. I think that must have been changed maybe 7-10 years ago...? I'm not too sure, but it's interesting to see where the old train platforms were. They're now covered in grass and I think the tracks are even removed by now. It's a beautiful building and I can't imagine how neat it would have been to get off the train in the heart of Sacramento a hundred or so years ago. Amtrak and capitol corridor come with their problems, but all in all, I usually like to pay (the increasingly high price) for convenience to get me where I need to be relatively quickly since I'm sans car in Berkeley. read more

This is a nice way to get between Sacramento and the Bay Area, I regularly take this to go visit my family in San Jose. It's kind of ridiculously priced at $80 round trip; I honestly think $40 round trip would be more reasonable especially since I sometimes visit 2x a month. I end up driving instead sometimes to save money. The seats are comfortable and there are big windows to look out of. You pass by the bay and it is lovely to sit on that side and look out. The wifi, unfortunately, is horrible to the point where webpages will barely load which is a bummer since last time I traveled I was hoping to get some work done. I generally just listen to music while traveling. The conductors could be nicer; they always seem short tempered and tend to snap at customers for one thing or another. I totally get that safety is part of their job but when I was on a half empty train once I got scolded for having my small suitcase under my feet, completely on my side of the seating area with no one next to me. At least tell me nicely! There is a cafe part of the train as well that I never go to, but they do sell alcohol. read more

A scenic and relaxing alternative to driving. The trains are clean and the staff was helpful for a first time rider like myself. Everything from the boarding ticket kiosk to checking baggage, was fairly self-explanatory. If you have trouble, just ask someone. I'll definitely consider the CC for future trips. read more

I absolutely love the convenience of getting to the bay area using the Capitol corridor! There are a few secrets to having a fantastic ride the first thing is get the 10-ride pass for $183. The catch is that you have to use it within 45 days but if your computer that's great. The next secret is if you go early in the morning the very last car is the quiet car people aren't in their yapping and talking is quiet you can get some shut-eye. The next is if there's a sleep liner car those seats recline all the way back and the legs come up and the cabin lights are a little bit more dim so it tends to be more quiet even if it's not the last car or it's in the middle of the day. Now as far as the cafe car sometimes the food seems a little suspect to me the people are always nice and appreciate the good tip but they don't always have everything that's on the menu board. But the beauty of the train is you can always bring your own food on board. read more

I travel it a lot. dirty cars, dirty seats, dirty restrooms. antiquated. rude onboard personnel. often rowdy sports fans who make a mess, colonize the downstairs senior section and even carry beer cans and ice in trash bags and trash the restrooms. for the cost of the ticket, the train should be clean, the ticket agents should be beyond welcoming and kind. and how about on time? the return trip is often delayed. sometimes by hours. there it is. we have a long way to go to meet the european cleanliness standards and civility. it is expensive. read more

It's sad that I have to take this route but the words you are about to read are as true as the day is long. I have had a service animal for four years now. When I first became the owner, it was decided that a leash would prohibit her from doing part of her job therefore she was trained to be without one. In four years, I have not owned a leash for her. Why would I purchase something that I do not use, or could cost my life in the event something went terribly wrong? The Sacramento station has had a thorn in their hitch regarding my not using a leash. And for no reason. My dog does not jump on others. Does not bark. Is always under my voice command. There has NEVER been an incident otherwise. I had to file a complaint against this station and then another. After the last complaint, the employees took further action as a means of retaliation. As three witnesses can confirm, we did not cause trouble on this last ride. In fact, those who are witness to the overall situation can confirm that my animal is by far the most well behaved and well mannered dog ever seen. One of the employees on this trip is one in which a complaint was created back in Jan. She took the opportunity to cause drama and then lied to the engineer saying that I was disturbing guests and causing trouble. All lies! Witnesses available. The engineer confronted me with an option to leash the dog, put it under the seat and get off the train. I have no leash. Service animals are allowed in the lap. And we are 4.5 hours from destination of a 15 hour trip. Surely this is just a disgruntled person. She and I were sound asleep when the engineer woke us and had us escorted from the train in the middle of the desert. All of my medical gear was in my luggage. My resources as well. It took me three days to get to Salt Lake City as there were no other means of travel from where we were left. I have every intention of escalating this and my attorney has been contacted. As for the moment, I expect full refund of the ticket as Amtrak not only did not fulfill its obligation, it acted as though we are still living in the Wild Wild West. You do not put people off of a train at midnight in the middle of nowhere, especially the disabled. Isolate them elsewhere on the train but not abandon them in the desert with nothing. Especially when three others were telling the engineer that I did nothing remotely close to what was said. I have called multiple times to speak with someone but keep getting the derailment speech so the hard way I guess we go. Thank you for the 4 hour commute home tonight all because our train broke down. You could have put us on another train even though we just left Suisun Fairfield, instead we sat on the train for almost 4 hours and some of us are still not at our destination and you give us snack packs. This does not fix the situation and the waste of our precious time. This could have been handled better. There was a woman crying in front of me because she could not get to her daughter in daycare and each min late was costing her money. Do you realize how the inept decisions effect us all or do you even care??? We pay a lot to commute on your train and all we ask for is to get us to our jobs and home to our families. I have been traveling to and from the Bay Area to see my fiancé This is the most convenient way to go. It takes about 2 hours each way. It is a nice experience. The seats are comfortable and you can work on the train. So, instead of commuting via automobile you can also be productive working. They have Wi-Fi and outlets to plug if your electronics. The people that work on the Capitol Corridor are all very nice. Anytime I have had to drive the trip it is almost nerve wracking knowing how much easier it is on the train. You also see things from the train you cannot see from the road. It's amazing~ I highly recommend this option of travel. read more
