UPDATE: Despite this place having great service, I've now tried going when they open at 7AM three times and they have not been open. I've waited until 7:30AM and still nothing. If there's one thing a dry cleaning can not be, it's being late. People rely on it being open when it says it will. I never thought I'd give a dry cleaners a five stars, but this place deserves it. I found this place on Yelp as the BY FAR highest rated dry cleaners on Capitol Hill. From the moment I walked in, the woman behind the register treated me with such genuine kindness. They did a great job with my clothes and it was a bit cheaper compared to other area dry cleaners. I recommend this place! read more

We love this dry cleaning! A real neighborhood business, such a kind and super friendly woman, always with a smile on her face. They always do a wonderful job, fast, and really reasonable prices. Even in the midst of coronavirus chaos, they did next day dry cleaning of my sofa cushion covers! The best: My cream colored sofa cushion covers had gotten dirty by my dogs, and I had tried and failed to clean them myself. I thought the stains were hopeless. When I moved to the neighborhood, I had a lot of mending and dry cleaning that I needed to have done. I took it all to Capitol Hill Cleaning Emporium. The staff here was friendly and remembered me after only one or two visits. The mending was well-done and fast enough, and the dry cleaning was also good. They opened a bit late one morning, so I was left standing around outside waiting for the place to open. The prices are not low, either, but are competitive with DC rates. read more

This place is a treasure. I have a pair of nice leather boots, and the heels were in bad shape. I honestly wasn't sure if they'd be able to be fixed at all. I live close by to this dry cleaner and decided to give it a shot. Came back a week later to get my boots and WOW! I wish I took a before and after picture, the shoes looked brand new, heels were replaced but it wasn't noticeable, and all for under $30. I also got a silk top dry cleaned and they did a great job with that, too. There seemed to be a lot of regulars coming in and I can see why. read more

Everything about this place is wonderful. I've had clothes both tailored and cleaned here. They have removed tricky spots and fixed holes. They always do a great job cleaning my stuff, including the delicate silk pieces. Plus, they are so friendly. Maybe a little expensive, but I'd rather take my clothes here knowing they'll be in good hands for a few bucks extra than taking the risk of going elsewhere. read more

Several years ago, after some quality problems with another nearby cleaners, I switched to here and they have consistently been great. Very accommodating if you need a rush job. Family owned and Young is great at customer service. Alterations can be a bit pricey but they do a good job. read more

After passing Capitol Hill Cleaning Emporium every day on the way home from work, I finally decided it was time to start using a neighborhood cleaner and popped in. I put my bundle on the counter - seven men's shirts, one pair of trousers and one dress. When she saw the dress she looked at the tag and said that Banana Republic items sometimes bleed. Huh? What? I emphasized that I wanted it dry cleaned not laundered, after all, the whole point in taking something to the dry cleaner's is so that it *doesn't* bleed. She told me that Calvin Klein almost always bleeds and sometimes Banana Republic and Ann Taylor. I personally own all of those brands and have never had any of them bleed. She asked me if I still wanted them to clean it. Dude, this nice dress isn't a one-time-wear sort of deal, it needs to be cleaned. I tried asking more questions to try to understand why she thought it could bleed and she was pretty snarky with her responses saying it's "up to the customer" if you want it cleaned or not. Well how about instead you tell me why your store is so different than every other cleaner I've been to in DC that your process ruins clothes. She didn't tell me anything. I figured her paranoia was more a CYA than anything and left my dress with the rest of the clothes. I came back to a black and greige dress. Now, greige may have been all the rage in Pottery Barn catalogs and flipped houses over the past five or ten years but that does not mean that I want to wear it. Thank you, but the black and ivory dress I brought in was beautiful...and now it's ruined. They messed up my dress and still charged $11 for me to have it "cleaned." So I went online to get to the bottom of this issue. I could not find anything on Banana Republic clothes bleeding from dry cleaning. I even found dresses on the Banana Republic website made from the same material with the same color block pattern and read through the reviews - not one mention of bleeding. So either they laundered it or Capitol Hill Cleaning Emporium just uses some different dry cleaning process than every other cleaner and that cleaner messes up clothes (and in which case, that needs to be explicitly told to the customer). Either way, they ruined a dress without so much as an apology and had such bad customer service that they were unwilling to explain their processes. I'll try the cleaner on the other side of the park next time. read more

After taking my $200 boots to another local joint and being told there was no way to repair the heels, I tried these guys. I'm so glad I did. For $30, they replaced my poor heels and my boots look great. I dropped off another pair and am looking forward to more great service! read more

Their a bit pricey, but I'd rather pay and have it done right then get my clothes back stained, mended incorrectly or messed up from the cleaning process. They did a great job with mending zippers, fixing a few fallen hems and all the regular cleaning too. Great little place. read more

This is the best drycleaner in the neighborhood. After going to one of their competitors across the park and being very disappointed that they couldn't remove a stain from my suit, I began going to this place. I've been going here since I moved to Capitol Hill a year ago and I have always been happy with my clothes upon pickup. You can pay at drop-off or pickup which is nice. They do tailoring and shoes too. They are quick and professional. read more

Great place, very convenient for where I live. Had 3 shirts altered (tapered). $25 per shirt, which is a bit pricey, but the work was excellent. Wife and I have had a few things cleaned from time to time and the clothes came back great, as to be expected. Much better than the "Organic" Cleaners across the park next to Park Cafe. This place did a good job with my suit and shirts at a reasonable price. Getting my wife's dresses cleaned was pretty pricey though.

I wanted to like this place because it's right in my backyard and the people who work there are very friendly, but WOOF. I just picked up a dress I had dry cleaned by them and it. smells. awful. It smells so bad I need to go have it dry cleaned again (elsewhere, obviously). I've never had dry cleaning come back smelling awful so that makes this place a no-go for me from now on. read more

I was really excited to try this dry cleaner. It was conveniently located right up the street from me, and I was hoping to make this my regular place. I took my favorite quilt in to be dry cleaned-- the first time I'd taken it in because I'd been extra careful with it! Over a week later, I returned to a completely ruined item. My once beautiful quilt is now a pile of lumps. It looks like it's filled with rocks. And on top of this tragedy, they refused to refund me, opting instead to clean it again to smooth it out. I naively hoped this would magically turn back time and give me a beautiful quilt again. Instead, I returned to rude service, was again refused a refund, and was told my quilt was ruined because it was "too old" to have been cleaned. It's a year old. I recommend staying away from here at all costs. read more

Unfortunately, they decided to burn holes in MULTIPLE pairs of pants and refused cover the costs for their ruining my suits. Now I am out $300 to replace the pants. With so many dry cleaners in DC, go somewhere that won't ruin your clothes, or at least is willing to take responsibility when they do. read more
