Capitol Hill Cleaners provides solid service and a personal feel. My wife and I have been coming to Capitol Hill Cleaners since 2010. They are family operated but Kim is usually working the front desk 6 days a week, She always greets you with a smile and is ready to help any way she can. This is our dry cleaning spot but we also have used them for wash and fold, tailoring, and even fixing the heel on my wife's favorite shoes. For regular clothing related services you can expect your clothes back quickly. My wife's shoe came back in less than a week as good as new. They will also work with you if you have time constraints or special requests. I have tried a few other places in the area and the thing that separates Capitol Hill Cleaners is consistent professional service. They always deliver on what they promise. Kim and her husband have been in Eastern Market for quite a while. They are right next to the Market and are part of the fabric of the area. They are generally a good cleaners. I was a customer for over a year, spent thousands of dollars on cleaning and alterations, and even drove across towns for cleaning services. Unfortunately, they don't take responsibility when they lose your items. I took some valuable items there and unfortunately they lost one of the items. They gave the runaround for 2 months and then tried to give me an item that wasn't mine as a replacement. They then tried to deny responsibility. If you want a cleaners thats going to get your every day shirts and pants clean they are good for that but if you want a business that won't lose valuables and is dependable then I suggest finding a different establishment. read more

I was taking a few of my dress shirts here on an electric bike and the sleeve of one of the shirts got caught in the front wheel which caused that shirt and every other shirt to get greasy black stains all over the left sleeves. I thought I would have to throw them all away and it would be a lost cause. I came back to pick them up today and couldn't believe how clean and brand new they looked. I still feel like they had to have gone out and bought the same shirts, couldn't believe it was possible to recover them. Moreso, I was charged the same price I'm normally charged even thought they were so much dirtier. I don't have many dress shirts so I go here once every week and they have been so nice and the shirts have come back perfect every time. Terrible service!!! We took 7 items to be washed yesterday afternoon. Only 3 were returned to us this morning, and the manager argued that we only brought in 3 items. So, not only did they lose 4 items, they accused their customer of lying. That is not the way to treat customers. This was our first experience with Capitol Hill Cleaners & Laundry, and we had hoped to use them a lot, but we will not use them again. They should respect customers, not disrespect them!! read more

Capitol Hill Cleaners & Laundry gets a solid four star rating for 1) It's location just a few blocks from the Eastern Market Metro, 2) The woman who runs it is very knowledgeable and very friendly, 3) They are always open when they say they are (unlike the Capitol Hill Cleaning Emporium off of Lincoln Park), and 4) They get the job done fast! The only complaint is that it's a bit more pricey than other dry cleaners on Capitol Hill, but the convenience and quality of work may make it worth it. Two pro-tips: 1) If you check in on Yelp, they give you a 20% discount on alterations, and 2) They also copy keys in case you need it. read more

When there are places in the district with good customer service and a decent product/service, I have to give them 5 stars! The owner is super friendly and always remembers me from the last time I came in (has it been that long since I dry cleaned that suit? oops). She also does some tailoring (my sleeves on a suit jacket, hems on a lined suit pant) which isn't too expensive but isn't cheap either ($40 for both hemmings). There's a nice little "changing room" for your alterations too (a curtain hung on one of those super curved shower curtain rods and a mini stage). Their hours are longer than many cleaners in the area too (7am to 7pm). read more

Got a bridesmaid dress hemmed and it was friendly, quick, & good alterations. Seemed reasonably priced as well.

My experience here was amazing. Customer service was outstanding and the tailor is gifted. Went to have a bridesmaid dress altered and trying it on after the alterations were made amazed me. This is not a review of the cleaning services of Capitol Hill Cleaners. Rather, it is a review of the friendly service. Last weekend I made an excellent purchase at Eastern Market of an oil painting of Conan the Barbarian (those 5 stars can double as a review of the artist, Shelton). Noticing, much to my dismay, gathering storm clouds overhead, I thought it would be best to find something with which to protect my wonderful acquisition. So I went into Capitol Hill Cleaners & Laundry hoping to exchange some change for rain defense. The proprietress (which does not come back with that annoying "you spelled that wrong, stupid" red underline, so it must be right) was only too happy to give me a bag, and for free! She simply asked me to bring my business back. Unfortunately, I don't live anywhere near Eastern Market, but if I did I would take all my stuff to Capitol Hill Cleaners & Laundry. I've been really pleased with the quality of the service here. It's amazing because it's one stop shop with both dry cleaning and shoe repair! They've always done an excellent job with everything I've given them. This past week, I went to drop off some clothes and shoes and I needed it quickly because of a pending trip. They were so crazed as it was their daughter's wedding in 2 days! Still they were so kind to take all my stuff and promised it would be ready by the next day. Sure enough it was. I visited this location once. I researched many dry cleaners in the area and chose one that could return my outfit quickly and that had decent feedback. I took a white pant suit with a lace jacket. I picked up a freshly pressed suit. When I got home, the stains were still on two of the three pieces. When I returned to show the suit with stains, the employee was dismissive and unapologetic. My new go-to tailor in DC. Very nice couple and the husband (the tailor) is top notch. Moved here from NYC and have been searching for a reasonably priced tailor for almost three years before I found these guys. I don't live in the neighborhood but bring my stuff all the way over to get it tailored. I haven't had just easy tailoring done either. A dress I bought was too tight and he literally undid all the seams and redid them to let out tiny bits (not much material to let out) and I got the extra inch I needed- all for less than$50. This place is terrible. The lady behind the counter was loud, brash and rude. She was very condescending and tried to up charge me on having the zippers fixed on a few pairs of pants. I've been here before to get a dress dry cleaned and everything went fine from what I remember, however, after this visit I'll never be back. read more

I had such a great experience! I was in dire need of an alteration for a dress jump suit for a Saturday night event and they were able to make it happen the same day! I called around 11am, showed up by 12 and was able to pick up by 4! We even spent time with the alteration and made it unique. It is now by far one of my favorite pieces that I own. Given all the great reviews I've read on here, I was really disappointed. Dropped off without a problem and the price ($11 something after tax) really isn't bad for a suit. Quick turnaround time, but neglected to check the suit when I picked it up on a Wednesday (I know, I know). I didn't need to wear it for a couple of days, so it wasn't until Saturday that I took it out to put it on its real hanger. Looked like the suit (black polished cotton) had been pressed a little hard, but even worse - there was sticky-gluish spots on the inside of the coat. Gross. So I took it back. After adamantly telling me it wasn't her fault, she reluctantly agreed to clean it again. When I asked for a refund, she flat-out refused, telling me that it was probably my fault and it had been several days (3) since I had picked it up and I must have left candy in there somehow. Nevermind that this wasn't a pocket, it was the lining. I totally understand that it had been several days, but scamming a local dry cleaning business out of $11 is really not high on my list of priorities. After finally agreeing to clean my suit a second time, she told me it wouldn't be ready until the next Thursday. "No way you can do it earlier?" "Maybe Wednesday night if you're lucky." When I picked it up, the spots were gone and I was forced to listen to another lecture about how it was clearly my fault. Looks like I'll be finding another place to dry-clean. read more

This review is purely for their key copying service. I've gone two separate times to get copies of two different sets of keys made. On both visits I was in and out of the door within 5 minutes. It's $3 per key (which is a bit more than Frager's or Home Depot charge) but all keys have worked perfectly on the first try. Plus it's in an extremely convenient location. Update to my previous review, after which the owner called me and said they would pay a $100 for my dress to take the review down. This was less than one third the price of the dress but that's not the point. I went back to this place and then the lady told me she needed an original receipt of purchase for my dress and that there's no way I spent $400 dollars on this dress as Indian clothes are "so cheap and of bad quality". I went to have a complaint resolved not have this establishment waste more time. Good for nothing. read more

I visited this place twice to use their wash and fold service. Both times, I called ahead and asked what I needed to know in order to use their service. Both times, after I arrived on location, they told me about additional conditions before I could use them. I ended up wasting my time and not getting my laundry done. This is a great little corner dry cleaner/clothing repair. I take all my odds and ends here to be mended and they always come out looking spectacular and she is able to maintain the fit of the clothing. When I try to do my own repairs I tend to pull the fabric so it never lies quite right - this is not the case here. There isn't anything they haven't been able to repair for a super reasonable price. My family has been a customer of Capitol Hill Cleaners for 11 years. We are very demanding customers and have never been disappointed with the quality of services and friendliness of Mrs. Song and her family. Indeed, we have found their services to be quite reasonable and professional. The quality of their tailoring and repair services is particularly noteworthy. I'm very hard on my clothes and Mrs. Song had done a fantastic job repairing my tears, missing buttons, and general abuse of trousers and dress shirts. She is also an excellent seamstress -- and does a bang up job on alterations -- quite handy with a teenage daughter who is growing rapidly! I never cease to be amazed by Mrs. Song's ability to remember all of her customers by phone number -- remarkable. In summation -- best cleaners and tailoring service I've had in 20 years on the Hill! I have lived on the Hill for almost 20 years and used a lot of different cleaners. I am very very happy to have now landed on the Capitol Hill Cleaners and Laundry. Great friendly service. She notices things I don't, she can always get my shirts back when I need them. while I don't do a lot of alterations, I have friends who run the high end clothing store near by and they use this place all the time and they love it too. Most of all, the owner is just super nice, super hard working and takes a lot of pride in her work. She is great with my kids and they always love a trip to the shirt store (although that may be about stopping at marvelous market). read more

She is a really nice lady, which made my previous issue with her that much more surprising. I'm glad this all got worked out. I just got back from Capitol Hill Cleaners, since I had to drop off the WRONG clothes they had given me yesterday. When I took them all back, she counted them (to make sure I hadn't stolen any???) then told me to take my clothes. Capital Hill Cleaners staff is so friendly, I always get a warm welcome when dropping off and picking up my dry cleaning. The prices are reasonable even for repairs and alterations. She has literally saved me hundreds of dollars by repairing expensive pants that I thought there was no hope for them. Very rarely, when mistakes happen, the owner has always gone out of her way to make things right and make the customer (me) happy. I took a bridesmaid dress I ordered online into Capitol Hill Cleaners to have it taken in. They did a fantastic job!! It wasn't an easy dress to alter either - the top portion was pleated, and the bottom had three separate layers. Very thick materials.
