One Star - A Nightmare Experience with Capitol North American Moving Company If I could give Capitol North American Moving Company zero stars, I would. Our move from Las Vegas to North Carolina was nothing short of a disaster, and I can't stress enough how painful and frustrating the entire process was. Despite having an in-person estimate done months before our move, things quickly spiraled out of control. The movers took over 12 hours to pack our belongings, but the truck they brought was already packed with little room left and it was clear from the start that everything wouldn't fit. Still, they shoehorned everything forcefully in that little space and interestingly packed our essentials and fragile items like mattresses, box springs, and electronics on the outside of the truck, while our patio furniture and more durable items went inside. Unsurprisingly, some of our furniture was damaged due to their poor packing. The real nightmare started after the move. Our stuff left Vegas on May 28, and was supposed to arrive by June 13, but it turned out that most of our "overflow" items never even left the warehouse. I was forced to deal with a nightmare of emails and phone calls to find out what happened. The customer service was shockingly unhelpful and indifferent. They told me this was just part of the experience and that it happens all the time. Absolutely shameless! To be fair, there was a glimmer of hope when Mr. Dan Rude, the General Manager of the Las Vegas branch, stepped in. He tracked down our missing items, found out they had been sent to another state, and even sent us a check as a gesture of goodwill. He advised us to submit a claim for the missing essentials and the $150-a-day penalty. But when I followed his advice, my claim was denied. They initially said there was no process for submission, but after escalating to Dan Rude, they reluctantly allowed it--only to deny it anyway. In summary, Capitol North American Moving Company is a nightmare to deal with. From their disorganized packing and poor handling of items to their appalling customer service and claim denial, this company has failed on every level. There is not one individual who can tell me the location of her belongings. I get hollow replies such as, "I know, I am so sorry your mom is going through this." The terms of her agreement had a delivery window of March 25 - April 2. April 5 I get an email saying she will have her delivery by April 8. Packing, unpacking, local storage, and cross country we have done it all with Capital! In 2009 we used CNA for a cross country move from Louisville to Las Vegas. They gently packed all of our items and semi truck hauled them. When they arrived at our house they unpacked and gently arranged everything with our light guidance. In 2011 we found another house we wanted here in Vegas less than 1/2 a mile away. They packed, loaded, moved and unpacked without us lifting a finger and once again it was flawless. Once again a few months ago we found a home we wanted to buy across town here in Las Vegas. I knew it was time to call Patty Ann. Our beautiful home was in a bidding war within two weeks and we decided to move into a place Downtown until our new home closed and then had the renos done. We placed our house in storage because we moved into a furnished place. We paid a monthly storage rate for a few months. They moved the things we wanted to our temp living and then again from the temp living to our new home. Finally we come to today! Six trucks and 18 storage containers (yes we have a lot of stuff....) they are unloading our home. I have gotten to know some of the guys by name and they always remember me. After reviewing how much stuff I had to move out of my 1 bedroom apartment 6 weeks before I had to move I did not hear back from them until the day before I had to move ( even though I left weekly voicemails) saying that they would not move my stuff. Thank god u-haul had a van opening. Super unprofessional!!! We used Capitol North American to move our household from Las Vegas to Seattle. Initially our experience with the company was very positive and we found Patti Ann and Theresa to be very helpful in the planning phase. The company even sent out a crew the day before our move to assess the site and confirm the scale of the move. While on site the workmen boxed our televisions and artwork at our request. We self-packed all of our other possessions and these were ready to move and organized in the foyer for transfer to the truck the next day. Up to this point, everything had gone well with our move and our relationship to Capitol North American. However, things took a bad turn the next day when the moving van and moving crew arrived. Firstly, it was immediately apparent that there was not enough room on the truck. Multiple crew members pulled me aside and told me so. When I inquired as to when an additional truck would arrive, they referred me to the driver. The driver, Alex, acknowledged that he had been under-quoted the space required for our move -- but stated that he would be able to fit everything regardless. So, he and the crew proceeded to dismantle every piece of furniture we had down to core components. To be clear, I don't mean that they did the obvious things like taking legs off of tables...I mean that they took the legs, then the brackets, them the mechanics, etc...again, core components. They did this with everything. This was not ikea-style build-at-home furniture. Our furniture was not built to be taken apart -- we later discovered they had even disconnected joints that had been GLUED together during manufacturing. Each time we raised concern we were told 1) this is the normal process of moving and they do it all the time without harm to any furniture, and 2) that they were carefully cataloging all of the items and any pre-move damage so that we could easily be reimbursed for any damage that might ultimately come from the process. Once everything was broken down into these core components, it was shoved, crammed, strapped, and otherwise forced into whatever space or gap could be manipulated (even if that space was incompatible with the shape or size of the item being mangled into it). Although the movers had initially been careful to keep items organized and to heed instructions on boxes (like, "this end up" or "fragile"), as the day went on and space got more scarce, these precautions were abandoned. Boxes were crammed any way possible without regard to contents or instructions. We even halted one of the workmen from ROLLING one of our dressers down the hall and onto the stairway (that is, flipping it end over end rather than finding another crew member to carry it with him). Over and over We expressed our concerns to the driver and repeatedly requested another truck to come but always we were told that this was normal and all would be fine and all would be restored. We were told the van loading would take less than 4 hours as our things were already packed prior to the van's arrival and the home size was modest (approx 2100 square feet, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom). Ultimately this process of deconstruction and forcing took over 12 hours! During this time we had no safe/quiet place where my wife could nurse our newborn baby or where we could nap our 2-year old toddler. The whole family was exhausted and beyond stressed by the time the moving van finally pulled away at nearly 10pm that night. Upon receiving and unloading our possessions in Seattle the reality of the damage became apparent. Even the 3rd party moving crew (hired by Capitol North American to help the driver unload the truck) expressed to us their flabbergasted shock at the damage and disorganization of our possessions upon offload. The end result is that EVERY piece of our furniture has damage to it including dents, abrasions, cracks, bent metal, broken glass, missing parts, etc. Many of our boxed possessions also suffered damage due to the boxes being crushed into small spaces, or "fragile" stickers and similar being wholly ignored. The damage inflicted to our property was a direct result of systematic negligence. After assessing the damages, we promptly filed a claim with Capitol North American. The company admits fault in causing these damages, but despite THOUSANDS in damages, the total compensation offered to us is under $400!!! The company acted negligently. My neighbors saw it, my family saw it, the 3rd party moving crew saw it, and the damage inflicted on my possessions is testament to it. Despite a good start, this experience was absolutely horrible. Avoid this company!!!! read more

Capitol Moving and Storage gave us a 4-hour window - which I reconfirmed week of. No one showed up so we called in asking for an update. The lady who answered the phone was not only exceptionally rude, but she claimed we were never on their schedule to begin with - and when we asked to speak to the people at Capitol that we originally scheduled with, she claimed they were unavailable. Worse yet, despite that the situation was entirely their fault, Capitol was completely unwilling to fit us into their schedule - offering us only next-available time windows days later. We had already undertaken significant effort and cost relying on Capitol to have it done that day, not to mention rescheduling other obligations to make their suggested window work. Note that this was for a very small shipment (the whole thing took less than 30 mins), nevertheless they refused to make any accommodations. Service failures happen, but the rudeness and unwillingness to work with us to recover from their service failure shows an extraordinary contempt for the customer - I will certainly not consider any further business with this company. read more

I was very pleased with every aspect of the move. We moved from Las Vegas to Alabama. Teresa stayed in contact with me every step of the way and was very professional. I would recommend anyone to use them for any move. Pattie Ann came to give an estimate of what would be moving then Teresa took over from there and was our coordinator. I had questions about the paperwork I was signing and both of them called me immediately to answer any questions and were very nice and professional no matter how silly the question was. If you do not value your belongings or how they are taken care of then feel free to use this company! I used this moving company to relocate to the midwest from Las Vegas. The movers seemed to be somewhat professional and appeared to know what they were doing. Their truck was located outside on the condo property so it was not always possible to supervise how my belongings and pre-packed boxes were loaded. Unaware of the poor loading job by the Las Vegas crew I instructed the coordinator to add an additional $20.00 each for the three crew. If you would like to have them load properly then make sure you put FRAGILE stickers on all of your heaviest and most indestructible boxes that way they will load them on first and place everything else on top of them. Their crew, I found out later at my delivery location, loaded almost everyone of my FRAGILE boxes and light items first and then proceeded to place every HEAVY item they could find on top of them. The crew at my destination was shocked at the total lack of attention and disregard for loading and packing. Upon opening the crates at my destination the delivery crew made sure they brought to my attention this lack of attention. Upon opening the containers we found that almost all of the first boxes and items loaded were extremely crushed by all of the very heavy items loaded on top of them. I of course took many pictures of this loading fiasco. Thankfully I packed most of my fragile items like glassware, china and the like myself so they were mostly able to survive the damage caused by the heavier items placed on top. I promptly emailed Lauren Grey, the Las Vegas coordinator, with pictures of the damage. Ms Grey responded by immediately tell me that the "tips" to the crew was charged to the main bill and therefore could not be reversed/refunded per my ONLY request. I never once asked for any reimbursement regarding damaged goods, I merely wanted my "tips" credited back to me as I felt that the crew did not deserve them. {I was also given the name of a Kelley with Cord Moving and Storage near St Charles, MO as the local coordinator. Regarding some delivery confusion I tried to contact this Kelley person and left multiple messages, not one of which was returned to me even after the delivery by this Kelley! I then contacted Cord Moving and Storage office and spoke with Ann, the secretary I presume, and she put me in contact with Tommy for the loading dock and together the Ann, Tommy and myself sorted out the issue. This brings to mind what good was Lauren and Kelley since I made the calls and handled it myself. Kudos to Ann and Tommy with Cord.} After my email to Lauren Grey I receive a response from her citing the companies damage and refund policies and the deductible. Again I never asked for any type of compensation other than having my $60.00 in tips credited back which never happened. Ms Grey stated that she was going to "escalate" the pictures and issues to who knows, her 'upper management I guess' that will probably just file them away with all of the other complaints this company has received. (check the other reviews here) So stay clear of this company if you value your belongings! Stop! Call another moving company! Right now I can say that on May 17, 2018 it will be one year since we moved into our home and we still have not agreed on the claim that was processed with the company. We moved cross country from California to Tennessee. I did not have one piece of furniture that was not damaged. Many items are more that 50 years old and they looked better before I moved. We were told that a semi would be in place to load our belongings and that did not take place. A 28ft truck came and all our stuff did not fit. It was a moving disaster. Our items were moved more that 6 times. Every box that did not have clothing in it; were broken items. How sad. read more

Update 2: I wanted to give an update on my move. The GM of the company reached out to me after seeing my review. There were a number of mishaps involving our move and this company can't be blamed for all of those mishaps. After learning of the issue, the GM scheduled my move for the very next morning . He also sent out the military liason, a written apology, and some financial reimbursement for our issues. I really appreciated the way that he handled the issue even though his company was not the only group involved in the issue. **The movers were excellent, well-trained, efficient, very nice, helpful, and mindful of our belongings. They deserve 5 stars. After the way this was handled, I am increasing their rating to a 4. The mishap still occurred but the recovery was above and beyond. read more

Capital North American Van Lines With a cross-country move from Las Vegas to Florida, we put all our trust and possessions in the hands of this company. We wanted a recognizable moving company, not a 'fly-by-night' company. We thought and were assured, that we would receive excellent service. So not the case. When we first spoke to their representative about our move, we emphasized the fact that we had an antique glass collection and family heirlooms and furniture. These were to be treated with white kid gloves from point A to point B. So not the case. To begin, we were moving two separate households, one from east Las Vegas and one from west Las Vegas. We had prearranged that the west location was to be loaded first. However, we started getting phone calls from neighbors and the moving company that the east location gate was locked and then that the truck was in front of the east location. We then traveled from one side of town to the other in an effort to get the move started. Definitely not happy about this lack of communication which caused us an hour delay. The Las Vegas crew was cordial. I'm sure it had been communicated to them that we were livid with the location error. We even fed these guys lunch as well as a tip. That's the way we treat people. Once both houses were packed almost 8 hours later, we started chasing the moving van across the country. We were told that it would take no less than 5 days. However, we weren't told that our belongings would sit on a truck in the heat for an additional 3 days once it was in the area. The Florida crew commented on the poor packing job that was done in Las Vegas. We soon found out why. Treasured possessions were damaged - a leg broken off an antique table, rub marks all over antique furniture, fresh scratches on other furniture and a great deal of damage to boxes and totes, many of which contained the antique glass collection. When a worker comes in and tells the driver he is needed on the truck, beware! Damaged goods will be delivered. The Florida crew was careless. A floor safe - dropped from waist level onto a tile floor. Good thing the tile was not broken! Guess they wouldn't accept responsibility for that damage either! The bridge to the entertainment center put on upside down. When this was brought to their attention they damaged a corner when they flipped it over and then didn't bother to center it on the top of the bookcases. Minor damage to a wall. The longer it took them to unpack the truck, the slower they moved and the more careless they became. A claim was filed with the company. It took about 6 weeks before an adjuster came out. We were told that our damaged antiques would be repaired. So not the case. I had to follow-up after another 3 weeks to see when the repairs and adjustments would be completed. I received a letter in the mail with a total amount for my claim and several "denied" items. The next day a check came in the mail. There was no repair. There was no challenging the fact that Capital North American Van Lines was negligent, Their workers came to my house, removed two heavy full pieces of marble from two beautiful antique tables that were family heirlooms, crated them like fine art (to the tune of over $180). If the damage to these tables was pre-existing, the tables would not have held the marble tops. End of story. The company's lack of professionalism doing the job that I paid dearly for is to be noted. Perhaps a smaller company would have exercised more care and consideration. I know that I never will use this company again, nor will I ever recommend them. Enter into a contract at your own risk. The only way you will get satisfaction for their carelessness is to purchase their over-priced insurance policy. Your homeowners should protect your belongings while they are on the truck and in transit. And even so, just save yourself the headache and heartache and choose someone else for your valuable possessions and relocation. read more

The new office Is GREAT!! The office move went fantastic. We've personally never hired a professional moving crew, we've always used temporary services like ManPower etc. Not knowing any different, I guess I expected the same "caliber" of men to show up on Friday - boy, was I wRoNG. I cannot say enough nice things about the crew who moved us. They were all dressed professionally, they were clean, their conversation was about sports, and work and family. They were never loud or boisterous. I never heard one of them say a swear word (although I personally relt like cursing about 200 times that day - HA!!). And the TEAMwORK. wow. If only everyone could take a lesson from your crew on how to work together. I've never seen anything like it. They even made me feel special by sending eight men and two trucks. read more

First let me say that as a military family we have moved many times all over the world. This company is by far the worst we have ever experienced. Patty was the contact who did the estimate and really made me feel like she cared about my family and our personal household goods. Unfortunately, whether she did or not, it was apparent the rest of the company did not. The packers were unfriendly and forgot to pack an entire bathroom, packed food both open and closed containers with an open box of Borax, there was no driver with the loading crew as none was apparently available, the loaders failed to put down floor protection, where rude beyond belief, damaged furniture, broke stair railing in house and lock on garage door. The horrors continued, however, as our delivery was 2 days late and we lost many items. Furthermore, almost all of the hardware for our furniture was lost as well as they did not place screws, bolts, etc. in the parts box. Choose another company! Edited: I have updated my review to two stars after speaking to the President John. While it took a while for him to get back to me, they sent us additional compensation over our claim amount based on the poor experience we had. They had the lowest quote, even with insurance. Our move coordinator Linda was very responsive and easy to contact via phone or email. This was not our first move, but Linda was very kind and told us what to expect. I never got past being able to get an estimate. The estimator, Ian) showed up a day early and refused to leave until I threatened to call the police! The he sat menacingly in front of my home! I called their office and asked fore the manager (3 times before I got someone who said "I am the closest thing you are going to get)! When I told him that I was going to call the police he said that he would try to find out how to get hold of Ian! My advice is to BEWARE of these people at all costs!!! read more

We moved February 2011 from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City and used Capital North America. I can't say enough great things about how our move went. Pattiann, the appraiser, estimated the weight of our move to be 22,000 pounds and it ended up being 21,900. She was honest, witty and very pleasant to work with. The movers showed up the day of the move. All were in uniforms, clean cut, and introduced themselves to me then I escorted them around the house to show them what was where. George, our driver and team lead, was very professional and ready to work. They were so fast, yet so careful. I had sodas in a cooler for them then bought them pizza for lunch (5 pizzas for 5 movers then they ate it throughout the day) and other than a 20 minute lunch break and a few 5 minute breaks throughout the day, they worked tirelessly for 9 hours. George told us he was going to arrive that Wednesday at our new home in Salt Lake City and to our surprise, he actually arrived at that time and we weren't ready. George and two other movers worked again like crazy to unload everything. Once again, they were so fast and careful. I can't believe how they wrapped everything, put runners down and NOTHING was damaged in the move, which is amazing because we filled an entire full size Semi truck. I also bought them Chipotle burritos for lunch to keep them going. The only thing that ever happened is that a mover was bringing a stack of storage bins down our stairs in Las Vegas and the top one fell off. Luckily it was only full of Barbie dolls and misc toys so it was no big deal. The only complaint I can find was that in Vegas after they left, there were tons of cigarette butts at the end of my driveway. For how great everything else went, I'll take the cigarette butts. In Utah there were no butts, so I'm guessing the two additional guys that helped load in Vegas were the smokers or the three that came to Utah cleaned up their butts if they smoked. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! We used them to move from Henderson to WY and it was a complete disaster. Salesman out to house twice, told him repeatedly there was also full 13x10 storage unit and did he want to see it. He declined each time. Told him on the last cross-country move we filled a 52' truck by ourselves. He said drivers do not want to take a less than full load. Needless to say on moving day, truck pulled up already half full with another load. Moving crew (who were exemplary and worked extremely hard) worked until 9:30 at night to at least get house loaded. They had to come back the next morning with a smaller truck to get the storage unit made us 4 hours late leaving NV. Driver said his plan was to go to storage yard and empty both trucks and re-load big truck with just our move in order to get us one delivery. COMPANY would not let him do that. Needless to say, here we are in NV 8 days after initial deliver still waiting on 2nd truck. AT NO TIME DID ANYONE FORM CAPITOL OFFICE OUTREACH TO US WITH ANY UPDATE, LET ALONE AN APOLOGY FOR THIS FIASCO. All contact with them was initiated by us. When I called office for update, was told a driver would be in LV to pick-up tomorrow. As far as lack of service she said to call North American Corp Customer Service. They said they did not know anything about it as it is all run by the local Capitol office. Bottom line, once they had the almost $13,000 they were done. Let me be clear, the driver and the guys who physically did the move were awesome. They did everything they could to ensure our goods were handled care and efficiency. So we stayed home ALL day without receiving our couch.... The company called us on Tuesday morning to schedule a delivery date and we missed their call and attempted to call them NUMEROUS times as well as left a couple of voicemails without response throughout the rest of the day. I then attempted to call them this morning and of course was not able to talk to any reps because they were, "away from their desk", so I left a voicemail requesting a call back as we just moved across the country into a new house without seating, besides the lovely lawn chairs in our living room... After attempting to call them again, the phone continued to a ring until that dreaded VM message started. What frustration!! I placed my order through ikea and was intending on ordering more items from them, but I certainly do not want to deal with this delivery company in the future. The Driver that took our load to Florida was a 10. The flow of information from Capital needs a bit of work. I found out from the company who was doing the uncreating that my load would be in on the 3rd and they where coming morning of 4th. Load arrived, but they did not. As we have unpacked our stuff, my biggest complaint is the lack of detail in how they packed stuff. We had almost 150 cartons and I have had very few that did not have issues. The good thing was very little damage. The one antique table was damaged probably by the way they wrapped it. ATTENTION TO DETSIL NEEDS WORK AND THAT WILL MAKE THEM A BETTER COMPANY. read more

I just made a 450 mile move from Las Vegas to Incline Village, NV using these guys. All I can say is that they were AWESOME! The crew arrived right on time and got me loaded up quick. There was no waiting 1-2 weeks to get your stuff delivered. They loaded me up on the 29th, and I had my stuff delivered on the 31st by noon. Their rates were WAY better than anyone else I called in Las Vegas. Nothing was broken at all. I would definitely use these guys again without a doubt! They were great! read more

Worst service ever , moved from Hawaii to Las vegas and had nothing but problems with thease guys lost 1 of 2 crates and they did nothing to find it, I hade to spend almost a week and a half to track it down. Thay refused to un pack ( which I paid for) the people in the office were not to concerned never even tryed to locate my crate.My advice stay away from them. read more

I hired this company. I paid this company. Everything they packed was either missing or broken in my cross country move. I made a claim to them in good faith. They gave me pricing of a lower model tv than I had, of course was below my deductible, did not allow for my picture that was smashed, which they packed in the same box as my tv. I had 2 brand new lampshades not allowed for at all, it was listed on the bill of lading but because I had to sign receipt of my boxes, did not notice they were missing until I unpacked. I made a complaint to them, which they ignored, I made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, they told the BBB that they farm out the moving to a couple of different vendors, they believed someone else did it and requested the BBB remove my complaint alluding I was a hysteric. I am not done, I will keep going until I find someone who is fair and not trying to screw people over. I did not list anything I packed and was broken in the move, I only made claims for the items they packed and broke. Stay clear of this company as they do not honor their liability. read more

Talk about not meeting your expectations! The peolpe over @ Capitol are a bunch of ignorant employees. Down to their dispact! They will never follow through on your emails, and they will not care for your property! I had a 50' plasma flat screen television deliever bye Capitol only to open it with a broken screen! The delivery wich was originally supposed to arrive on the 16th, was noted by Sams Club to arrive on the 20th because we were never told an exact date to expect just the usual 7-10 days riff. So now it ends up @ Capitol North American over the weekend because they are supposedly closed and come Monday (the day I take off) was told I had to make an appointment by the dispatch (who bye the way never responded to my emails confirming my delivery time & date) never even responded to the emails from Sams Club with all of our contact info to try and reschedule another delivery! So instead of it arriving on the 16th we get a broken television on the 21st! And the drivers who just dropped off the television, had me sign off, and ran off not even waitiing or helping me set up the 180lb television, ( which I feel they KNEW the television had fallen during delivery) made a stupid comment about how heavy the Sony Trinitrons are after watch me struggle with it! If I hadn't taken off on the 20th and had to go in late on the day of delivery I would have had the time to pursue a valid delivery! But overall, I warn thoese how might not know but if your merchandise goes to these people, I'd rent a u-haul and pick it up myself unless you want to go through the whole shipping process, because these morons don't want to be honest about dropping your shippment and damaging it! I worked in warehouses and dropped flat screen is supposed to be shipped back! No if ands or butts! They have the worst delivery drivers and dispatch people I have ever encountered! read more
