Pina colada & a regular margerita.
    Moni W.

Walked in and saw this place packed at noon with elderlies and some kids. My friend and I have been curious on trying this place out for awhile now just because it's next to The Greenhouse Cafe. We were seated a little late because mostly one waiter was going back and forth on bringing out orders at the time. When we saw the menu, it was kind of blinding to read all that text, but it was manageable. I saw that they had fruit & cheeses for their menu and I've barely seen any places that have cheeseboards in their menu so I was very happy to try that out. Originally I had wanted Brie/Pepper Jack/Soft Cheddar, but they were out of Brie so I got Roquefort instead. The selection of three cheeses and assorted fruit w/ crackers was $15. My friend had ordered a Strawberry Margerita (says it's weak for a guy) and the waiter informs us on being out of strawberries. My friend was disappointed, but he opted for a regular. I ended up getting a Pina Colada so my friend wouldn't feel awkward drinking so early in the afternoon. Both were $6 each. When the fruits and cheeses arrived on the platter, it seemed appealing. However, I can see where those strawberries went (haha). The selection of fruit were very limited because the oranges served as decoration, but the crackers were just brittle and the Roquefort wasn't easy to spread on the poor cracker. I ended up just eating the cheeses alone. However my friend was disgusted with the idea of eating fruits together with the cheese. So he robbed my strawberries and put them into his margerita to prevent my wrath of cheese coating. The roquefort cheese was really salty top on of biting into those saltine crackers. So I ate slices of pepper jack and cheddar in between to alternate. My friend didn't get to finish his wrap and said it was underwhelming. He expected a pickle on the side, but got a regular cucumber sliced like a pickle. Quite funny to see the disappointment, but we ended our meal with a tiramisu. I should have probably started with dessert. It was really good except for the soggy cake being on the top layer underneath the whipped cream. I'm okay with coming here, but maybe not for brunch/lunch. I can probably give another try on this place. Another day perhaps.

Left with a bad taste in my mouth. Crepes were cold. And my apple strudel was even cold. Shouldn't it be heated up??

That was such a perfect idea. First thing we were there, and it was a warm and sultry morning at 6:30AM with the sun up to greet us along with a New York bridge adorning the scene to the south, with us eating outside on the sidewalk I could not imagine a better send off from this great world city. Bagels were a perfect breakfast and we sucked those back in a jiffy. Just as we were finishing, members of the US military, maybe national guardsmen, showed up in black SUVs right in front of us and parked. They got out, a gaggle of them and headed in for their bagels. Well that's something to remember and not an every day sight for us being from Canada, and added to the local flavour of this epic road trip.

I pulled up and I see "Mr" Bagels cafe. For Brooklyn, it sounds like pure class. I'm sure the owner must have a pinky ring. Walking inside, the bagel counter are front and center. To the left, is a coffee bar with multiple coffee choices. Nice looking spot. I ask for a Sesame Bagel with Cream Cheese. Would you like that toasted sir? Wait a second Years ago, I asked for my bagel toasted at Murrays Bagels in Chelsea. The guy behind the counter? He lost his mind! The next day, they put up a hand written sign: No Toasted Bagels So I'm always lerry when asking for extras. Except the bagel guy asked me so I feel relaxed. I pour myself a cup of delicious French Roast Coffee and my bagel is ready. The bagel is perfect. It has a nice chew, just a little too big but thats my personal taste. The cream cheese, even though it's plain, is very silky. Mr Bagels, thank you. Until we meet again.

I walk into a small shop, the large menu is front and center. I read on line what I wanted, the #6 - The How You Doin You're not finding this sandwich name in LA! This spot is pure Brooklyn, with some great sounding sandwiches. Trust me, I looked over the menu and wanted to try everything on the menu. The #6 was a fantastic choice, Fresh Brooklyn Italian bread with a perfectly Fried Chicken Cutlet and topped with Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella and completed with an Oil Balsamic drizzle. Cash only spot, that's ok. Take my money! I'm coming back for the Thursday Special, the Homemade Roast Beef and Melted Fresh Mozzarella sandwich. (How awesome does that sound?!)

I went with the #4 (Menny Special) and #7 (Che Si Dici). Both are very different, both are great. If you want something savory and warm- go with the #4. If you want something that's more 'Italian' and cold cut oriented with a hint of sweetness, go with the #7. Charlie's doesn't really overcomplicate their recipes. The menu is a bit long (given the different combinations), but that's because their experiments are tried and true. The bread is excellent, not sure if made in-house but they're light, toasted, holds the sandwich 'innards' well (though some tectonic sliding iykwim) but still makes for a perfect big bite. Now these are not MASSIVE heroes like Lioni's (this is a good thing), but do consider these sandwiches more of an indulgence/treat. Well worth the trip/price.
