I like this bodega. It's clean. It's well-stocked with all the drinks, chips, salads, candy, and whatever else you may need from a bodega. They have good smoothies (I go green, and you should too). The dudes behind the counter are cool. Even nice, or at least not not nice. And the sandwiches are solid. I often need a good sandwich. Specifically, I often need a bacon egg and cheese to soak up the many bottles of wine we drank the night before. I get it on a hero when I'm particularly feeling it, because more is better. The counter guy makes it right, even if he then rolls it up tight like a burrito so it's a compact cylinder of deliciousness when I get home. However, it must be said that $10 for this sandwich is extortionate. I couldn't believe it, and I told the guy at the register that was crazy. He seems to know it, and blamed it on the egg prices right now. And as much as I want to lay the blame at the feet of the current administration, I feel like Tropic Juice Bar is pulling one over on me here. That said, I would've probably paid more in my current state. But it was still wrong, and I don't appreciate them taking advantage of me in my time of need. read more

They have some pretty tasty stuff, but if you're wanting a smoothie, you better not go when more than 2 people are in line b/c smoothie making is slow as molasses up in there! I mean, come on, how long does it take to slice up some fruit, stick in a blender with some protein powder and other goodies, and blend that stuff?? If you got 15-20 mins to wait, then come on by for a delicious smoothie. Otherwise, make one at home or try some place else. I usually order from this place with a couple of coworkers when I'm at work. I would say the first couple of times went okay. The first incident was when my coworker ordered a tuna salad that arrived with no Tuna. We figured it happens. Things get hectic and these things can happen to anyone. They brought the Tuna over in 30mins. The second incident we ordered two salads with dressing on the side (cesar and olive oil). Both salads arrived with no dressing. 30 mins later we received our dressing. Luckily my coworker looked at the dressing before tossing it into her salad. We were sent cooking oil instead of olive oil. Still, we brought our business here a week later. We ordered two salads with dressing on the side. But we called as soon as we placed our order and pointed out the special notes. Simply "dressing on the side, please." Instead we received one salad with two sides of dressing and the second salad with no dressing. I called them and expressed my dissatisfaction. We called and pointed out the special notes which I don't think were troublesome at all. The manager came on the phone and told me the special notes did not request dressing on the side for both salads. (I can see it right here on the invoice, sir.) Despite being in denial, he claimed to have sent the delivery boy right over with the missing dressing. After getting off the phone with him, I walk over to stare at my dry salad and realize they also forgot the croutons. Oh and the delivery boy never came. It probably goes without saying that when I see a bike delivery guy from a few blocks down delivering lunch to a guy who works here that it makes me question the food they're making. I went ahead and ordered a wrap anyway. I was disappointed to see all the paninis and wraps are already pre-made but I wanted one of their signature wraps without tomatoes so the guy made me a fresh one. I asked the guy to make it hot but it must have slipped his mind. The wrap listed basil as an ingredient but what they used was pesto. Yes there's basil in pesto but there's a big difference, one that was wasn't a big fan of. I also got a smoothie ($5 for a large size). This was delicious and a good value. It's pretty sad to see these guys open a fresh juice/smoothie shop directly across the street from a well established and loved shop of the same kind (Nectar) so hopefully they both survive. I ordered a Green-O-Licious Juice and an Avocado Veggie Lovers Wrap at about 10:15 this morning and received my food at about 10:45. The wrap was packaged in foil and paper, and the juice was packaged in plastic covering the top in order to avoid spillage. Napkins were provided. The food was good. It didn't smell, which is good because I work in an office and eat at my desk. The juice was well blended - you could barely taste the spirulina and it was delicious! Great new spot! This place is as fresh as it gets. So far I've had smoothies #17 and #19 and they were both excellent. Check out how they designed the ceiling when you go there. I work in the area and this is the closest "deli". They make some really great juices and smoothies, as well as decent breakfast and lunch options. Their salads are the best! Great value for a salad! Good coffee!! Price wise its a bit on the expensive side but the whole area is like that. Staff here is always great, very polite and courteous! The guy recommended me a really good juice to clear me up and included a little Cayanne pepper shot that really helped.
