Love love love Cappy's Deep Dish Chicago Pizza. We usually go to the location in Tampa Palms. Haven't been to this location in forever and really like that it's in a bungalow. We had perfect timing bc they open at 5pm on Sunday, and as soon as we got inside it started pouring. We sat by the window and watched the rain and enjoyed our fave Tampa Bay Deep Dish. There's nothing like this that's as good here and we have tried a lot. Hard to find a good Chicago Deep Dish. Our server was great and super helpful and friendly. Our overall experience and our amazing pizza was excellent!! There's a couple rooms for dining but the first room to the right of the entrance next to the window was where we were at. We will def ask for this table again. They also have outside patio tables for those nice twilight nights. Parking is free in their small lot or the street beside them. read more

Umm best pizza in Tampa Bay? Maybe! We couldn't decide so we got one NY style and one Chicago style. Both were perfectly sauced and the Cappy was piled with toppings! They even let us swap out for my non-mushroom eating friend. Service was extremely friendly, and our server even put to-go ranch cups in our pizza box. So thoughtful! First time trying Cappy's did not disappoint! My friends and I split two small New York-style pizzas: one pepperoni and pineapple, and one chicken and bacon with ranch drizzled on top. The place is fairly small and it was very busy on a Sunday evening. Instead of waiting for a table, we did a to-go order and it took about 15 minutes. Both pizzas were delicious! Great pizzeria tucked away in Historic Kenwood. Because it's so popular, there might be a bit of a wait if you plan to dine in, but it's worth it. The space is actually much bigger than it looks from the outside, with dining tables spread throughout different parts of the restaurant. The food is excellent, and you definitely shouldn't skip the Greek salad. It might be one of the best I've ever had. The big chunks of feta mixed with crisp greens make it incredibly satisfying. I'm pretty selective on my pizza and even at that I'd say I'm more than selective. It takes a lot for me to like pizza and I have to be really in a mood to want it. Let's just say, Cappy's has satisfied my need and I'll come back anytime I want pizza. I am a New York style pizza gal through and through so it's nice to order it somewhere that knows what they're doing. However, I do like that you can pick between Chicago and New York, as not everyone is like me. We ended up coming at 4 pm because their websites says they're open at 3:30 which is accurate, but for takeout only. However, they have open outdoor seating so we walked in and ordered and waited outside and ate outside. Overall the pizza was really good. The cheesy bread didn't have a ton of flavor but was good. This place is a knock out every time. The staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming (they literally go out of their way to accommodate everyone). The vibes are laid back and quintessentially St Pete. On top of that, the food is outstanding and consistent. They're using fresh ingredients and cooking to order. You might have to wait 40 minutes for a Chicago Deep Dish but it's worth every second. If I have to be nit picky, I wish they offered ricotta as a topping and the website hours vs operational hours on the weekend are confusing -- but neither of those teeny tiny things bother us. We're still here for birthday dinners, at least once a month when my mom visits, and after the kids' sporting events. Cappy's feels like home, come pull up a seat and join us! P.S. I grew up until middle school in the Chicago area and hate the difficulty finding Chicago Style deep dish pizza elsewhere. I optimistically try every place I find that claims to have Chicago style pizza, and I tell myself that I enjoy it, but if I'm honest, every one of them would be considered bad if it were served in Chicago. Cappy's is the only exception I've found to that rule. Their Chicago style deep dish would be above average in Chicago. Even before I got my pizza, I knew it was going to be good when we got a cheesy bread appetizer. The dough on the crust was fresh and bursting with delicious flavor. The cheese was proper cheese, full of flavor with almost no greasiness. The service was great. Fast, friendly, comfortably casual but also professional. We had our twenty month old in tow, and it had been a long day for him, and they were great about making that as easy as possible on us. I also liked the vibe. Warm and casual, with wood tones and whatnot... Almost divey, but in the best sense of the word, where it was clean and properly put together but felt like a comfortable place to relax and have free flowing conversations. The Chicago style deep dish, was incredibly authentic, and delicious. Similar to Giordano's the staff was super friendly, and the place has very cool vibes laid-back. When you go in and you're waiting for a table, you can help yourself to a beverage from the cooler. There is a nice outdoor patio seating area. We got a large with sausage, caramelized onions and peppers and it had the perfect ratio of sauce toppings, crust and cheese. I'm adding this to my regular pizza list. You can't go wrong here. ESPECIALLY for the price. The toppings are 2.99 each on the large which is a little steep but for the taste and how filling it is I'm not upset. It was hard for me to tell if the sausage was there but I think they chop it very small so it cooks. I didn't try the New York style but I can't see it being better than the Chicago style We sat inside and it was a little snug and the wooden seats aren't the most comfortable. We ordered the NY style, so this review is on that pizza. They also have Chicago deep dish, which maybe better tasting. For us, the cheese and sauce was average, and the pizza was not cut all the way thru. Thankfully they gave us a steak knife to finish cutting the pizza (is this a thing?), which was needed. How much harder is it to cut all the way through a pizza. Regardless, the service is good- not exceptional and the best part is the outdoor patio. We sat outside, and started with the Greek salad. The dressing was light and refreshing, the lettuce was crisp, there was a good mix of onions, olives, tomatoes, peppers, and feta cheese. The portion size of the small salad is very generous. I was surprised how much we got for the price of it. I would definitely get this salad again. I came here with a friend on a busy Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation so we waited about 20 minutes for a table and chose to sit outside. The location itself is super cute including the outdoor area in the front. I'm lactose intolerant so I really appreciated the fact that they had several dairy free options available. Only bummer was we walked in at 8:27 pm on Saturday and sign said last seating was at 8:30 pm because they close at 9:00 pm. They told us immediately when we walked in carry out only. This is delicious deep dish pizza. The crust is surprisingly light, crispy, not heavy and doughy. I like getting meatball and carmelized onion. Lots of tomatoes in the sauce. Great cheese and just tons of flavor. Get the Greek salad while you wait. Excellent dressing, lots of feta with the requisite scoop of potato salad you get in this area. Finally, I was able to cross Cappy's Pizzeria off of my checklist and put it onto my, "must go back", list. I live near Cappy's and had been dying to try this. Of course, it's January, so I'm on a diet, but I figured, "oh well" and decided that after I worked out I'd walk over there because, you know- balance. I got there right when it was opening because I wanted to avoid any long wait. The staff was really friendly and helpful since I've not been there before. I ordered the Cappy which I originally wanted a NY style version but the guy I spoke to said because it wasn't busy the Chicago-style would only take about 25 minutes or so- I was expecting a good 45-minute wait, so I said yes to that and also got a Greek salad (small pizza, large salad). I think total with tip put me right around $30, but I knew I'd have multiple meals, so I wasn't mad about it at all. They offered me a drink while I waited and, in the time, given, my food was ready. I loved the salad. Absolutely loved it. The dressing was out of this world. Not that I didn't love the pizza, but the salad hit the spot. I really enjoyed the pizza as well. The dough was great, especially the crust. I was expecting a little thicker of an overall pizza, but the taste, including the sauce, were great. I want to try the NY version next to see which I enjoy more, but needless to say, I'll be back there soon. read more

That's probably why I waited so long to try Cappy's--I didn't want to set myself up for disappointment or end up missing my hometown pizza even more. But let me tell you, I was so wrong. Cappy's is the real deal. First, the tossed salad. For about $6.95, it was huge--definitely big enough to share--and the dressing was what really stood out. It was this amazing Italian vinaigrette: tangy, flavorful, and just a touch sweet. It brought everything together and made even the salad memorable. Now, the deep dish. Wow. The crust was buttery, perfectly crunchy, and had just the right amount of char to give it that amazing flavor and texture. I went with the Cappy's Special, and every topping was fresh, generous, and delicious. It was everything I didn't know I'd been missing here.
